As much as I love google, I don't see this taking off. Facebook is too embedded into our culture.
I have no problem deleting my facebook account. I just need my family to follow suite.

myspace went to the bottom of the poop shoot because it is a piece of crap made for eleventeen year olds with emo kid hair cuts and piercings in their eyebrow and lip or bands that suck and that is the only way they can get their crappy screamo music out to those eleventeen year olds.

Because its a beta and they want to experiment with it before going fully live. This has been going on a long time with Google products. Not to mention, the amount of demand makes the "product" be more worthy and more hype is created.
Gmail: Limited invites -> Slowly expands -> becomes the next biggest thing
Google voice: Limited invites -> slowly expands -> well.. not biggest thing but popular

Hopefully they will just integrate it in instead of leaving it to die. It's virtually the same back end system driving it, no reason to abandon gTalk.

Ok,we're losing track here.. lets get back to the hangout/plugin troubles.
What I dont get is... how is it that Google is the one who makes Android,yet Android doesnt have any plugin for google video/voice.
G+ is still not public. Its closed & invite only still. So maybe theye'r still doing development on it. ..But wouldnt you as the company who invented Android want video/voice in the system natively from the start? Strange that theye'r not thinking like that.

Hangout video works for me on my wifi xoom.
I can't start a chat, but if I follow an invitation the video chat starts. I wonder why my Bluetooth headset isn't supporter, but this might depend on me...

Just tried it... seems to work pretty good. I don't have a cam on my laptop, so that box was empty, but the video from my xoom seemed rather low quality.
Is there a setting to adjust that? Or does it use other factors to adjust the quality?

There are no limits to invites. One person could conceivably invite the entire population of this forum.

I was gonna ask that because I haven't had a limit when I have invited friends and family.
I have plenty of invites as well. I have been adding XDAers as I see them in their signatures. You guys all know there is not one big XDA circle, right? It's not like a group on facebook. Unless there's something someone hasn't told me about ....

I have thought about closing my FB, but some of my friends and family don't want to jump ship. So I'll be using G+ for XDA, which lets me interact a little better with the rest of the community. I personally prefer G+ more than FB ...

essentially, it's google's answer to facebook. more status/photo/video sharing, and no farmville crap. you can also break your contacts up into 'circles' so that what you post in one circle, isn't seen in another circle, unless you want it to be. along with integrated individual and group chats.
