just an FYI to everyone who's running the HKTW build and was disappointed that the FFC was sideways and stretched now, it appears in fact that on the receiving end of video calls, the picture is (somewhat) fine. although it shows as distorted on the atrix-side of the app, it appears upright and normal on the receiving device both Qik and Fring, and upside down in Tango. All 3 tested with a Galaxy Tab.
(Tango video doesn't reciprocate on GTab for some reason to my Atrix, which is the GTab's fault)
EDIT: no google talk video doesn't work for me, so i didn't include it in this test. AFAIK it doesn't work on the atrix yet.

So I went by Best Buy today to check out the Acer and Xoom side by side, since the Asus wasnt out yet (tomorrow for that).
Anyway, i turned my trusty Samsung Vibrant mobile hotspot on, piped in some Google account information, and opened up Talk, and called a friend (who was on a desktop)... Video was ok, so the chain of communication looked like this....
me->Acer500->local wifi->Tmo 3G network->Internet-> His Work Place->IPSec tunnel->Internet->His Home DSL->Laptop->My buddy
Video quality wasnt bad...but the Acer kept moving my picture inside the little square, like auto rotating it, etc. It was kinda of hard to do the video call landscape wise since the front cam is on the left of the unit, but you could turn the tablet vertical and have a more uniform video call.
Speed of the call and the audio was just fine.

Uhm, yeah, can't find it...
2 microphones actually. The user guide on Acer.com says "Dual microphone with noise and echo cancellation" and they are located next to each other along the top of the LCD. If you look closely at the top of the LCD while it is in landscape mode (with the docking port pointing down), you'll see the opening for the microphones. =)
man i looked for ages for these mics i still cant see squat. know they are there though as ive used em for recording, and for video calls
Do you have good mic performance in gtalk when on video call?
Mine was acting a bit weird.
They could hear me for a minute or so after starting the conference, but then my voice would fade away and they would only hear some backround noise.. sometimes they could hear me if would only talk directly into the usb host port lol!
When recording mic works fine. Havent tried skype yet.
Is this the case for any of you???
i had issues with the mic with the first a500 i got, the person on the other end would would hear a lot of static. But i've got the tab replaced and its been working fine now!
My mic performance is terrible. My wife has an I-pod 4, and her mic works great (using Hey Tell) sitting in same room, her voice on the Tab is great...mine on the I-pod is terrible. Hardware possibly? Any updates? Skype is terrible also...
Remidies?
Mic is pretty horrible. Often does not pick up voice to text and recorded voice is terrible. First mic is literally between the bezel and the glass in the middle top of the screen. Second mic is in sd card slot which makes no sense. Other than the size and weight it is my only real complaint so far.
my first a500 mic was horrible, it started off fine but after a little while it crapped out and the other side could not hear me, oddly enough whne just doing a voice recording rather than gtalk/skype call it was fine. anyways exchanged it for a new one this one works very well.
!!!???Nooooo
!!!Please keep your Ipod talk out of the android forum. Thank you very much ;(

So you can video chat just fine? You don't have the problems stated in my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096042
?
Here is a good teardown I found on techrepublic that shows the two microphones in the A500.
(sorry, low post count, I can't post external links yet)

Running HTC Evo 4G
Presently with MIUI 2.1.13
Are there any AOSP based ROMs that video conferencing works properly? I've tried MIUI and Cyonogen Mod, and both have the issue where the the other participant of the video conference sees my video image upside down. If not, any ICS versions that have corrected this?
What app are you using to video call?
~ I'm a fungi
I've tried multiple:
Gtalk
Fring
Skype
Tango
Same results on all. I can see the the other video caller fine, however the other caller sees me upside down. I've tried changing the front facing camera from 1M to a lower resolution, but that had no affect. The rear camera is not affected, pointless if I turn my phone around, now I can't see them =)
Does video calling work seamlessly?
gtalk or hangouts with no problems?
camera?
microphone?
everything appropriate?
THX!
Haven't tried Google hangout, but Skype worked fine. One call, i had the tablet horizontal, and the video of my camera got flipped upside down on my end, not the other end. Tilting the nexus extremely corrected it, though
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
and does mic work perfectly?
Yes.
Skype needs updating to maximise the quality of the front camera, but yes its fine.
Something very strange happened today.
I was home, waiting to go to a show. Video recorder was setup at 640 x 480 to save memory space, I tested recording and everything was OK, recording both video and audio as expected.
Went to the show, did a number of recordings, ranging from 12 to 300+ megabytes.
Came back home, no recording had audio! Plain video, no sound.
Tried again home to record a new video, and again everything was regular, with proper sound.
So, I've lost some amazing music, and can't understand why.
Do you have any hint? What happened to my note 4?
Okay, putting on the Sherlock Homes hat now...
You have a Note 4 on Verizon. Last thing you did before leaving was put on the fancy new case you just bought. Unfortunately the case wasn't designed to accommodate the relocated mic hole for Verizon, and blocked your audio. Elementary, my dear Watson.
Whatever happened, sorry you missed out on the recording.
Nope, my note 4 is naked, no cover, no case, not subsidized
There must be another explanation
Did you connect headphones or a bluetooth device?
I have to get this Sherlock hat serviced, it seems to be defective.
Neither. Only thing unusual, it was in a place without gsm and wifi field. I should try again in same place.
And, concerning your Sherlock hat, it might have issues without a proper pipe and magnifying glass.
Note 4 no audio in recorded video
I had experienced this problem too. I recorded some videos in a show for my son's performance and none of video had sound. I did test recording at home before and after the show and it is recording perfectly okay with sound.
I still don't know what happened.
i found this solution on another post and it worked for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/help/sound-recordings-audio-video-t3079593
it worked for me regardless of a difference in carrier
Thanks. It never happened again afterwards.
It is happening to me now... on stock. I have turned off and on BT and started recording... weird...
