Could I facetime someone with an iphone?

Well I got a G2 and I'm thinking about switching it to the mytouch 4g.. a lot of my friends got iphone 4s and facetime each other all the time. If I got the mytouch would it be possible to facetime them?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
No. iPhone's facetime is proprietary system. Only iSheep can do it.
you can talk to them through the yahoo app though thats also available on iphone 4s
that sucks I only got a couple days to either trade my g2 for the mytouch or keep it, front facing cam is the only difference...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
i returned my g2 a week or so ago, i have a lot of friends with iphone 4s too, ill just talk to them through the yahoo app if i really want to, but i dotn need a keyboard and i wanted an led indicator...so this phone suits me better
Download an app called "Tango" from the marketplace and have your iFriends download the same app from their App Store. It's very similar to FT, very clean and minimal. It automatically searches for contacts with the app downloaded. Enjoy!
What about Fring?
I agree, tango is the way to go. I like how it shows the ppl in your contacts who already have it, regardless of they phone or carrier.
and you can use it even if you don't have a FFC

[Q] Mytouch 4G Webchat feature?

So I just got the Mytouch 4G (rooted & left Stock) was a previous nexus one owner so I know all about the dev side of things but this is my first phone that allows web/video chat capabililties. Im a bit curious on what everyones thoughts and maybe some suggestions to utilize this feature. As of now im am unware of how Qik rele works and if there are any other major vchat apps out there worth looking into possibly even for the future. None of my friends rele have a vchat phone yet so im wondering how i can utilize that feature.
Thanks for the tips & suggestions!
i'm a big fan of the vid chat myself..i use yahoo messenger vid chat to chat with my gf who is on pc..
i think qik works best for mobile to mobile chat..both party needs to have the ap and a phone which supports vid chat..
be aware some roms do not support the front facing camera (yet). I am using iced glacier and have no problems..

Is facetime for iphone an iphone exclusive app or can we get that app to vid chat with iphone peoples?

I'll look into tango =D
FWIW, Skype bought Qik last week. Look for the Qik app to either take off with more features or be rolled into the Skype app.

Pretty sure facetime is iphone exclusive..but tango is the way to go if u are doing vid chat with iphone

i typically use Tango, but i'm looking into ooVoo. It seems to be the quickest but for some reason my wife'e phone doesn't like it very much. She is using HTC MySense, and i am using AOSP.
Well, evidence of video chat was found in latest Gtalk app (misc references, icons, etc) so I'm hoping we will see VC capabilites officially supported by Google in the near future.
Skype rolled out VC for iPhone recently, I can't imagine it would take them long to introduce a similar future to Android.
Those are the two apps I'm looking forward to as they seem to be pretty universal across all of the platform, any other ones are just a niche apps to be honest (except for yahoo, but it's not for me)

Yayy i hope they get a good skype app with vchat i knw most of my friends have that or oovoo lol
I love the front camera but i think us, MyTouch 4G Users, are a little ahead of the game cause no one really has android front facing camera phone. But after all the CES phones drop im positive we would all have someone to video chat

What the hell is "rele" supposed to mean? That's not a word.
The beta yahoo video chat is pretty awesome too. It has video and voice chat. Audio for both has a hollow digital tone to it but works well enough. The video comes through pretty clear.
Use case: mytouch 4g to nexus one. Voice chat works. Video chat works but video capture is done from the nexus' rear camera. I have to flip the phone around. Haha

Going to travel overseas, need some opinions.

Ok here's my dilemma, in about a month I'm going over to parts of Europe/on a cruise. I plan to take my phone and wanted to see what options I had. I've been back and forth on devices but settled on the nexus s since it gave me the best overall experience however I am now stuck with the fact I don't have wifi calling. I planned on using that on the cruise to call out and at my hotels where wifi will be available. Do I have other options? Can I use my phone and do Google voice to call/text?
Side note if I don't figure this out I was either considering trying the sensation or maybe getting a xoom since I wanted a tablet but again can I use Google voice at least to call or text? Or just get a cheapy phone that does wifi calling like a blackberry and go with that?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
you can send texts via wifi. if you link google voice with your phone, you can log into g voice via browser on your phone and then send texts. I'm not sure about making calls though.
Can't you do SIP WiFi calling? Setup options under Settings --> call settings --> accounts Add Account
That's assuming you have a SIP line?
Skype is another option...
he can do that, but he will still be charged for it. idk if that's what op had in mind or not.
If you're getting free Wifi on the boat or hotel, you can use Google Voice to send SMS for no additional cost. You cannot make voice calls over GV without roaming charges on your T-Mobile bill.
To make voice calls, either set up a SIP account or sign up for Skype and use that over free Wifi.
T-Mobile nexus s ? If so the wifi calling app will work ....otherwise Skype tango oovoo fring

There isn't a wifi calling app...
Forget I said that..... I haven't tried to use it since I had my vibrant so I assumed it was available for the nexus s

There should be a hacked wifi calling app available..I'm pretty sure I saw it in the dev forum, so just dig it up. Of course u'll have to be rooted. I'm using wifi calling on my nexus one right now from Pakistan.

No wifi calling for nexus s.
Nexus S & G2X
Thanks just dug up the thread and saw that development has been stalled. Hopefully it'll be available in the future.

Line2 is an option.
I'm just going to borrow my friends G2 or BB and use the wifi calling feature.

Texting using Wifi

Does anyone know or can recommend an app the lets you send/receive SMS & MMS with the Thrive over Wifi?
Sent from my Toshiba Thrive using XDA Premium App.
I have been using Heywire for sms. It does not do mms but it is excellent for sms. The person you send the message to doesn't need to have Heywire installed.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
you can try texttab. What it does is connect thru Bluetooth to your phone, and receives any SMS your phone gets and sends them to your thrive. Which you can reply and send on your thrive once your paired up.
TexTab worked awesome on mine! I absolutely love that program. Thanks for the head's up on that app. Definitely worth paying for it...
I have google voice and I have loved being able to text from any browser, including the thrive's browser. Especially if you're on sprint for your mobile servce, I would strongly recommend setting up google voice.

Sprints decision to work in collaboration with google voice makes it this way. I have Sprint and love them for this. A friend of mine is having trouble figuring out how to send google voice sms from his Thrive since he is on TMobile tho.
I use DeskSMS, I started using it over month ago and the fact it actually syncs with my contacts on my phone rather they have Google Voice or any other service makes it IMO the best app there for texting over wifi without having to jump between phone numbers. Especially for those of us that didnt want to lose our MMS capability by completely syncing with Google Voice.
I tried DeskSMS for a little while and it works ok. I stopped using it because Google Voice Canadian numbers are still not available. Hopefully I will use DeskSMS again once Canadian Google voice numbers are available.
Rogers Wireless use to offer wifi calling and text for consumer however this option is no longer compatible with my current plan with them so I had to improvise.
I`ve also tried textplus which work very well and you can get a Canadian number by
paying a monthly fee.

I am using google voice on all my android devices and computers. Most over wi_fi and all sync almost at the same time. Love the thrive.

3G Video call on dell streak?

I fail to make regular video call by 3G cellular netwok ( not by internet like skype and else) , do I need apps or different rom, or video call not supported on dell streak .
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Use the "Tango" app lets you video chat with others over 3g
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA Premium App
I also use the fring app to make 3g video calls
3G video calling is possible but not practical due to the limited/irregular data transfer over a 3G connection for any network (lagging). I've some practical success with visual and verbal conversation over 3H connections (E=low,G=med & H=high MB/s) but ideally 4G will be more suitable for this type of communication method. To reply to your post - YES.
I don't want to use tango, fring and else, or other web apps. I just want regular video call without internet. With nokia or galaxy I use to place call to anyone that have just phone with camera and usim.

You provided your own solution - use the Nokia or Galaxy phone.
