It is indeed gingerbread.

You don't install it, The source code is needed to build a custom kernel, but either enable overclocking or generally tweaking it to improve performance. You need the Android SDK to compile a kernel.

But, can we get the OS from this source or it's just the kernel?
Sent from my GT-S5830B using XDA App

Install Linux eg Ubuntu, down it, build it directly or git AOSP source then build.
My computer is unstable, or I can use it to port CyangenMod. But I have git AOSP source, I might try to build one. However, how to flash the built is a big trouble...

been trying to dowload this for a whole day. each time only got 10kBps speed, and resulting in timeout. also cannot resume. wth samsung????

Went well for me so here's my upload

1.6/2.0/2.1 with the kernel that HTC just released?

I was wondering why its been so quite after HTC released the new kernel for the Sprint Hero, I thought that was the missing link that was needed for complete 1.6/2.0/2.1 roms?
It hasn't been quiet.
Also the kernel that HTC released needs to be ported to 2.6.29 to fully work with 1.6+.
All this info is on the forum & easily obtainable.

I just thought we would see some 1.6/2.0/2.1 releases now that the kernel was released, that's all
There's been 1.6+ releases for a while...
Let me elaborate a little here:
This kernel that was released is not a magic bullet, it allows us to see what code needs to be changed to get the correct Kernel to run these newer versions. It also lets us make any performance changes we can find.
All of the changes need to be put into the current kernel source, making it a .29 or whatever we need.
It has been fairly quite, we aren't seeing tons of Roms being thrown out to the market, thankfully. Our devs are taking all the time they need to make sure everything works and is stable. We should see some big stuff happen in the next week or so.

does this mean us leakers can root now?

Some people are having trouble seeing it on the site. I upped it to mediafire. Here ya go...

This is what we need to get OC'ing working right?

This is already in all the current ROMs. Now we can start using modified kernels that allow for OC and the like.
PHP:
Yeah that's what I was thinking by I didn't know for sure. But why couldnt we OC before if we already if we already had the kernal?

I don't think you understand what this is. This isn't a rom or a patch or an update. This is the source code to the Eris's kernel. We didn't have this before, we were waiting on HTC to release it.
Do a google search for linux kernel to get a better idea of what a kernel is.

The runnable form of the kernel can't be changed (much very easily, at least). Having the source code renders making real changes to the kernel feasible.
very nice. i cannot wait to come back from vacation to see our phone finally OC'd
YESS! Finally
So this wont help find a vulnerability for us leak users?
It may help find a hole in 2.1 for leakers... But dont get your hopes up to high.. The 1.5 source didn't yield much in the way of root when it was released. Im more excited to possibly see OC on the Eris!!
I'm not a leaker, but there's a thread in General that talks about the incredable being rooted from just the source. That's where you'll probobly find a hole.

[Q] Fully working CyanogenMod 7 for x10 pls!

Hi! I just want to ask if its possible to make a fully working CM7? The new Gingerbread is out so all the sources are avilable. Or not? The current CM7's have no camera and a few bugs. The official GB have camera and all...
Is this possible for now or have we to wait until GB x10 is rooted? It would be great to have a great CM7 with all working!
Thx! Ákos
I am also searching for this

It should work with the sources from the prerooted ROMs, just a matter of time for someone to port this over. The sources were released a few days back, so a little bit of patience is in order...

yes but J said freexperia will merge with official cyanogen, so we might get 'unofficial official updates, if you get what I mean.

[Q] Anyone working on ice cream sandwich 4.0 for ZTE Blade?

Hi to all our dear developers,
I have started this thread to ask who all are working on development of Ice Cream Sandwich ROM for ZTE Blade?
In case you need any support in testing the ROM, I would be more than happy to volunteer.
Best,
Yatin

the honeycomb sdk was compiled for arm v6, the ics sdk was compiled for arm v7. zte blades only have an arm v6 processor.
so, we need the source code so that it can be recompiled for our arm v6 phones. There's a little bit more to it than that, so don't expect ics for the blade on the same day as the source code is released, but we need the source code before we can start work on a blade version.
hopefully we'll get a working port of cm9 (which will be based on ics).

once he's worked it out the source code for cm9 will be available, then you can use that.
using the aosp source code, once you have it booting there are still other problems to fix, like the touch screen, audio & ril.
everyone involved with cyanogenmod should be very busy fixing those problems, so it's best to leave them to it if you can't help them. they don't need to be bothered with questions.

DREAMteam Froyo source code

Hi there,
I'm trying to build some froyo rom for g1 from source. The problem is that lot of stuff lying here is old, unusable slow or hopelessly broken. The only rom that seems to work is hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273549
[Rom][2.2.3 AOSP] DREAMteam Froyo v2.0.0 [9/3/2012]
The kernel source can be easy found by Ezterry
hxxps://github.com/ezterry/kernel-biff-testing/tree/ezgb-2636-v1.5.2-20111106
but I can't find any (git) repo or hint how the "DREAMteam" guys built it. :crying:
Thanks in advance for any hints,
ptau

All you need for building the kernel is here at this url:
https://github.com/ezterry/manifest-gingerbread-DS/blob/gingerbread/README.mkdn
It used to be on the ezgingerbread rom thread but seems he has a link to the guide which is now on github ^_^

Building the kernel for froyo or building the ezgingerbread rom is no problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882356
Unfortunately (Ez)gingerbread is an overkill for the tiny G1
My problem is to find out how to build a froyo rom that is not
broken (e.g. cm6). The DREAMteam's
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273549
rom seems to have the most bugs fixed, but again I don't know
how to build it. I need the right android manifest, git repo, etc.
The DREAMteam changelog is astonishingly sparse:
V2.0.0 - 2012-03-09
Update to android 2.2.3. Some changes from 1.9.2 included.
Thanks ptau

Well I got in touch with tval aint spoke to him for a while. He said a repo was never made for DREAMteam froyo and the way in which it was created some by pushing files not everything was coding, there was not much point in a repo and he has not got around to it lol and I totally agree with him. So best thing would be to compile a rom from plain AOSP and begin to modify it yourself, this way you learn and better understand rom creation. Plus doing it straight from AOSP will give you the updates you want and in most ways will actually be better ^^ If you want any help I could always introduce you to a few devs see if they would be willing to help ^^
PS: From how you worded your first post it sounded like you were trying to compile just the ezterry kernel xD so I apologise that I misunderstood ^^

As far as I remember when it was first started they never had a repository and unless it has changed they still do not lol ill email tvall later lol seems Ldrifta is gone.... :'( if not you can always just compile a normal aosp and then customize it to your liking and speed helps you learn on how to speed up roms that way unlike having an already fast rom of which you learn less from.

Thanks. After I looked in the zip, I thought something like that.
Seriously, you don't need speed with this hardware.
Think of cheap, stable, not battery eating
and hackable ARM11 development platform
After that incident with kernel.org they removed all the old android repos
so I have hard times to find the G1 pieces again. ezterry rocks. The kernel
changes are in his git, I could tweak+build the kernel with all the
modules I needed.
Let's see how to get the aosp together ...
