[q] Notification bar edits? - Eee Pad Transformer General

Maybe this should go in dev, forgive me if so, I've been in the romming and rooting scene since the d1 but never really got my hands into actually editing files for myself. With that said I was wondering for the transformer if there is a way to turn off or clear the notification bar of all non running notifications easily? Disable some things like the sd card notification always being on? Have more than 5 or 6 whatever the limit seems to be down there? And maybe make a suggestion for a willing dev to try to make an almost phone style pull up notification area for all notifications..if thats even remotely possible. Probably not based on the framework? Who knows, even if it cleared the bottom and brought up a seperate window that'd be awesome. If none of that is possible, is at least getting rid of the sd card icon possible? Thanks guys.
Oh btw, I am running the latest prime 1.5 with the clem kernel. Willing to alpha/beta/flash zips etc.

Me too!
I think those are good suggestions and i'd be keep to test any solutions anyone here comes up with

Great suggestions and I completely agree. I'm sure with the right developers working on it that anything is possible. I am still waiting for full facebook integration like HTC sense has. It'd be nice to get desktop notifications from FB and Twitter etc...

You can modify the layout (xml) it yourself, Use Apk-tools 1.4.1.

TouchWhiz 3: What do you think

So after having spent quite a bit of time browsing through all the stock touchwhiz apps, I have to say, for the most part I'm really enjoying TouchWhiz. The launcher can be replaced so even if it REALLY bugged me, it is an easy fix. The apps have really impressed me, though. The social integration is quite extensive.
I've gotta say my one beef with it is that there is really a lack of options I would expect in a non-standard app. If TouchWhiz apps had the extensive options seen in replacement apps like Handcent SMS, ADW.Launcher, I don't think I would have anything to complain about. It would be really nice to be able to disable certain tabs and options..
Anyways, what do you guys think? Do you like it overall or just assume get rid of it all? Which things do you love most about it and which do you hate?
I can honestly say that any custom roms without TouchWhiz will have to have something pretty amazing to draw me away from the stock rooted rom or another TouchWhiz based rom.
I agree completely. I am really enjoying touchwiz, but am missing some of the customization i have come to love with Android.
I am hopefull that future updates will address some of this.
So far I am really impressed with TouchWiz3. The contacts app should be ported over for everyone to use. I have the filters to only include contacts with phone numbers, having the ability to jump to a specific letter in the address book and sliding across a name to make a call.
Wish I could select a default calendar to post to instead of the phones My Calendar. I have to keep selecting my google calendar every time I create an appointment. It's a bit annoying.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I'm loving TouchWhiz. Being a long time CMmod and ADW launcher user and having tried the old TouchWhiz version w/ the obnoxious sidebar, I was ready for CM6 before even laying my hands on this phone. Now I seriously doubt I'll switch even when CM6 becomes available.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I have to disagree I'm not happy with TouchWiz and really wish I could get the AOSP contacts and calendar back that's all I really care about...
Calendar most importantly
I really like TouchWiz. I don't like the App Drawer though. I still prefer LauncherPro, so i'll be using that instead.
TouchWiz 3 is particularly ugly. Ugly colors, ugly icons. Just tacky as they come.
I would have returned the phone if it wasn't for LauncherPro.
I miss the flexibility of the vanilla Android 2.1. I've been using CM5 on my G1 prior to buying the Vibrant. Can't wait for CM6 for the Vibrant.
I so so on TW, I'm using LauncherPro at the moment but I wish I could use my samsung widgets
Could've been a 9.5 phone but some small but major annoyances
The touchwiz calendar app is nice, but you are unable to create a new event that defaults to you google calendar...its defaults to the phone's default calendar ("My Calendar"). Also, the default alarm time before an event is set to "none" and can't be changed to the typical 5,10,15..min before event. Why? How can this be useful...The beauty of android is in the cloud. I guess they are trying to appease to folks that don't use google services, but this is a damn Android, so im calling this a dumb and stupid decision. The same logic is somewhat applied when adding a new contact, but a pop up gives you a choice to save to sim, phone or google, so it is definitely better implemented in the add contact option, but I must ask...Who is buying this phone and saving contacts to the sim card? It's a damn Android!
The other issue which I initially didn't use much on my G1 (CM 5.08), but later fell in love with is custom ring tones for a specific caller. The only way to do this with the Samsung Vibrant is to actually save the contact on the phone vs with google. I just don't get this....once again This is an Android phone. Why did they create these additional profiles and not default them to the standard Android behavior. This is why fragmentation of the Android OS can be bad.
These are really my only major gripes after having the phone for less than a week, well besides that annoying shutdown tmobile jingle and the power/unlock button on the side...oh and I wish this phone had hdmi out. The video out is really a neat feature, but its not a good experience using the standard def audio/video out jack.
I know these may seem like minor annoyances, particulalry the calendar and custom ring tone, but getting the basics right is what I think counts the most. Leave well enough alone!
With all that said it is a great phone and once you go superamoled there is no going back.
I forgot to add that I running ADW and there is no way I could run this phone with that awful iphone look alike launcher. I'm also rooted and tethering (wired or wifi) does not seem to work.
I'm hoping Cyanogen works his magic with this device...it will be a beast!
I hate touch wiz and the fact that it looks like an iphone. Don't really like the icons and the accu weather click is hideous. I use beautiful widgets and adw for my launcher. I think adw us the best launcher because of it's ability to customize extensively.
Feeling Vibrant on xda-app
Anyone else having problems with ADW Launcher Notifications bar?
I've got "Hide Status Bar" unchecked and yet it just keeps disappearing, I tried with it checked and got the same result, it'll be there for a while and disappears, even when I pull down the notifications drawer it's still not there just a blank line of wallpaper at the top.
I've actually gone back to the TouchWiz becuase I can't reliably see my batter meter or signal strength.
Anyone get this?
I think a lot of you are missing the fact that the Launcher is not "TouchWiz 3.0". The skin goes much deeper than just the launcher.
Copying contacts to the phone is also very easy. Export them and then Import them. They're on the phone now... not sure if this would work because they're still linked through Google, but they are on the phone now too so you could unlink them from Google.
If you want ugly just look at a stock Android phone. Ugly, tacky.. since when is black and blue tacky? The icon backgrounds in the app menu might not be to everyone's liking but it's still WAY Better than the stock app drawer with it's hideous background and yellow coloring throughout
I agree. I don't mind touchwiz at all. I'd like the option to switch to default Android look though. My main gripe with touchwiz is the calendar and the fact that the applications menu is a cheesy rip of the iPhone menu, come on Samsung. Also, I quite enjoy the AccuWeather clock.

I'm totally with you on the touchwiz calendar and contacts apps having some serious issues. Though I really like the color scheme, love the subtle grey in notifications, the black task-bar, and the blue menu headings, it looks clean to me.
Anyway, I have found a temporary solueion for the Calendar, for myself at least. Should work for anyone who's rooted.
Grab the Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk from the thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6472313&postcount=674
then use a shell to backup TouchWizCalendar.apk/.odex and TouchWizCalendarProvider.apk/.odex
then remove all 4 files
and install the Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk from the link
and grant permissions to let the new calendar & provider access your data when it asks.
I'm stoked because this brought back the default calendar widget too, which I was seriously missing
Add in the GenieWidget.apk from the nexus one here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600959
And I'm one step closer to having all the default apps and widgets that I like =)
Now if only I can do the same with the Cyanogen Dialer, Alarm and contacts app... not sure I'm feeling that reckless tonight though, lol.
cheers!
I don't like it in general, but a few additions really ought to get disseminated to every ROM.
I'm using ADW launcher.
You can tell TW is glued on top. It doesn't feel integrated. It actually seems to hamper the nice Google integration I've had. It's great that Tmo wants to offer something, but not letting me change my voicemail number manually (but leaving it in there) is forcing it on me. Makes me bristle.
As far as changing ringtones, I haven't gotten that far. Working on rooting and getting my adb going with it (to get the calendar back to vanilla, frankly). I imagine aContacts might solve that. Thanks for pointing it out.
The blues would be fine (although I'm not a fan since it's much like WM 6.0), except they don't match very well. It almost looks like a corporate argument, or a cheap contracted graphic artist, or both, and someone worked on the WinMo 6 team. And much of the blue-tinted gray text fields don't go with the fully gray Android button color. I'm not a fan of trying to do browns & ambers as accent colors, as a slice of the wheel, fine, but I've tried, and it just doesn't work. Maybe it's the shiny black tube. It just looks 2006 to me.
I love the control bar in notifications. I was doing it with BarControl, then BarTender, but it's so, so much nicer now. Add a "Fastbright" or better yet, replace the silent with it, since I can do that with one of the two hardware keys. The "just took off my rose-colored glasses" tint could definitely go.
I do like the phone app. A lot. Especially in-call. It's clean. The BT took too long to connect if it wasn't enabled first, but I can see this being streamlined, which would be slick. The calculator & dialer ain't as pretty, but being old I like the big, no, HUGE numerals. I like the "0" long-press to vibrate (wish it were customizeable).
I love using a gesture to call or sms. The sideways stuff has been wasted "space" so far. I hate the redundancy of using a line that could show a contact and a space in the menu to add a contact. It's also weird not having a way to go from contacts to favorites. I was having trouble on the CM ROMs, so I guess it's just nice that it works without a bug, too.
I guess I like the updates tab in the contacts app, it's a great way to check what's up before making a call, but I've already got my methods, so if I really feel like I need to know, I'll check first. My guess is it won't take off, not like it is, but it got me thinkin' how nice it would be to pull all those social networking sites together and list them under a contact. Total agregation. So I suppose it's a step in the right direction.
I doubt it qualifies as TouchWiz, but I adore the camera app. That action shot mode could prove useful. And the continuous shooting while holding the "button" is excellent. I don't get the "beauty " mode. Didn't help. (Maybe it's only set up for darker skin as an obscure FU to HP.) What I don't love is that it won't post to Picasa or Facebook by default, a few other third party photo hosting places, but not either of the ones I use... since I got on board with Android. Huh. I smell something here.
Music app is nice & simple. I haven't looked, but I'm guessing it's pretty lightweight. It carries my biggest gripes about the interface, tho, the empty space above and below each line mean less data for me to see on each screen, and it's on a big black, ultra-shiny tube.
regarding the OP: you CAN change the volume of the tmo startuip & shutdown jingle by going to settings-->sound&display-->system volume
the one thing i noticed when i pick my own ringtones that are either in the internal sd OR external sd storage, is that if i set them, then mount sd card, then unmount, then my f**king ringtones and notifications all change back to the annoying as F**K default. !! i would LOVE to be able to mount JUST the external sd OR the internal sd ONE AT A TIME OR both IF i wanted to.
but no... someone at samsung or tmobile didnt think of this. too me a lot of the little things we as smartphone users really care about were entirely overshadowed by the concern for aesthetic beauty of touchwiz 3 by samsung. tmobile or someone needs to push and update that will edify the smartphone features as they should be...
Good find

Deleted htclockscreen, looking for insight

First, yes, I've searched, despite my post count, I scower these forums as well as the IRC to make sure I know what I'm talking about, to some degree anyways.
I've deleted htclockscreen. For what I want from a rom, I've pretty much customized my phone exactly how I want it. While this is a small thing, it's still something that bothers me....
I've replaced the default alarm with deskclock to get around the dismiss issue.
Ive deleted numerous apps on my phone to where it's not bloated really at all anymore. It's very CMish.
My qualm, much like a few other people, is that the transparent lockscreen effect after deleting htclockscreen is just annoying in that, i know it's something to do with the framework, and now i've seen the cm nightly build, to know that it's possible to fix it...
would anyone know how to go about doing so? is there a file from the cm-nightly build I could push to my rom to fix it?
It's the one, little bitty, issue I have with what i've done so far. I feel if I got that part fixed, I could release a pretty decent rom to everyone that doesn't want all the bloat and excess junk on the phone. It's not completely rid of sense... but it's rid of most of it. I dont mind the sense calling/answering aspect.
Anyways... I know there have been a few threads to touch on this, and a few have asked questions in this similar style but i didn't see anything dedicated to getting rid of the transperancy on the lockscreen. Also would be nice if the menu button didn't unlock it too...
any guidance or insight on the subject would be most appreciated.
note* i've tried pushing some files from other builds of other roms but haven't found anything to work flawlessly, either a lot of fc's or bootloops... and i dont' know how to complie that file myself or know enough to figure it out...
thanks in advance to anyone who might want to help me along
thanks greatly
jerry

I hope tethering is included. Phone to Xoom to PC. ;-)
for those of you interested in wifi only and europe versions, I need a system dump and the boot.img. i'm still trying to get this thing to boot. almost got it. xoom hc 3.1 is fully deodexed. It looks like a data and cache wipe will be required. So make sure you have the latest recovery from solarnz and do a good titanium backup. It looks like the initial release will be minimal. the idea is just to get everybody deodexed. but i've got some epic stuff in mind. Oh, somebody mentioned timeframes. Well, my wife said she's been feeling neglected and I love the androidz more than here. So i have to give her some attention for a while. But i bet if you go by #xoom on freenode, you'll have the most up to date info
also, this thread probably wont be the release thread. Get me those dumps. Also, start posting what type of features you are interested in. the more ideas the better.
also, be sure to stop by the Transformer board and give a big thanks to Roach for giving me the spark to get this thing going. The xoom community and the Tiamat Xoom Development Team are in his debt. Epic pwnage Roach!

Well I'll tell you of one idea, though I highly doubt that it will be possible. But the ONE feature or mod I'd love to see above *ALL* others for the Xoom is the ability to adjust contrast & saturation on the screen. Again I know this isn't necessarily a typical ROM feature in the classic sense, but regardless if there is any way this can be done I'd be more interested in this than in any other single feature or improvement.
Only suggestions i have for a rom are improve the lag with the launcher, that is really the only thing that annoys me with my xoom. Also desktop as the default for the browser.
Can't wait to see what you come up with!!
Thanks

Some nice transition windows effects, also the numeric battery like the one you are using, the turn off animation like the gingerbread but in landscape mode. So many, so glad the hear that you are working on a rom.

Cyanogen style tweaks please. Home app locked in memory. "Status bar" power widget also please.....
im just a measly noob but here are some suggestions....
change the recently used apps to tile across the screen instead of having to scroll through them
desktop browser mode permanently set
any HBOgo/netflix mods if possible
tv off gingerbread animation
bigger geebeez and the wifis
any good ported widgets/live wallpapers
ext4/swap file system?
customize LED notification color
neon green colors!
Feature Requests:
Fix wallpaper scaling. I want to be able to set wallpapers without having to crop.
Built in screenshot.
Colored keyboard themes.
Built in OC options.
Custom Widgets.
I'll edit and add more later.
how about a way to lock out screen inputs so we can watch video or use GPS without worrying about bumping the screen. That would be useful for folks with kids who watch cartoons, etc.
Midway through typing this, I thought of a better option.
Map hardware keys (i.e hit both volume buttons at once) to drop down the bottom notification bar windows style, so that it isnt there when we're watching movies or playing games. Then you hit both volume keys again to bring it back up.
My original idea was to have some way of hiding it when you bring up certain apps (emulators, moboplayer), but still have it retain it's functionality. Like you dont SEE the back button, you can press where it is and it will still work.

[ROM] Nils' Business GingerSense 3.5 - GB 2.3.5 - (11/13/11 v2.2)

Can't post in the right forum yet, maybe I should talk about the weather or something? Or maybe even a mod can move it over there.
Anyways, I cracked the screen on my first Incredible, doing a backup was worthless compared to my Treo as it didn't backup everything. So I rooted it and my new phone and did a nandroid backup. Lo and behold Gingerbread arrives and I can't update since I have clockworkmod still installed.
I'm out of warranty as it is so thought I'd go the ROM route and see whats out there. As such I've installed Nils' Business GingerSense 3.5 - GB 2.3.5 - (11/13/11 v2.2) and have been pretty happy with it except for a few odd quirks.
For one, I can't read the text for some of the apps in my notification screen, Lookout is a dark grey and the weather is completely black. Maybe I'm missing a setting somewhere? If I use a pattern lock screen, there's some extraneous lettering above the pattern box. And yeah, the preview screen doesn't work for wallpapers and such, neither in the HTC hub area.
Sometimes upon first unlocking if I swipe the screen, it does a full 360 through all the home screens. It also looks like this ROM is based on 4.06 and not the newer 4.08, would this fix some issues?
I do like Sense 3.5 so I think I'll be sticking around with this one and stuck here till I get enough posts in.
Hello hello,
Glad you rooted your Incredible, trust me you aren't missing anything in the way of features if you were on Verizon's stock GB update. The XDA community is literally MONTHS ahead of that haha but you can always unroot and wait for Verizon's OTA prompt if you desire but alas...
1) There is not a setting to change the notification bar's color. I have the same "feature"/problem as well. I just deal with it, not ideal I know, I just prefer launching into whichever app once I know the notification is there. Maybe try your hand with using the android kitchen that Nils has linked in post #3 of that thread. Also, I would suggest sending Nils a pm if nobody in the community has a solution for this. Sorry I can't help you any further but just everyone who uses the rom has the same all black notification bar. I like it cuz it sort of acts as a security blanket as nobody can view the notification's content.
2) As for the pattern lock labeling, I am not aware of a solution but I have heard this occurring on other Sense 3.5 roms. I do not have a solution simply cuz I prefer using the pin code which is more secure. Again, hopefully someone has a fix for this if there is one.
3) Wallpapers: you must hit "Menu" then select "Grid." That is addressed in post #2 of the thread.
4) The unlock spin is actually a function introduced with HTC Sense 3.5 and it effectively serves no person, rhyme, or reason. This should be disabled by going to Settings/Incredible Tweaks/Display Options and uncheck "Enable Unlock Animation." However, you cannot disable the spinning animation if you move through your homescreens too fast (i.e. flick your finger left/right quickly) as that's built into HTC Sense 3.5.
5) The 4.06.501 vs. 4.08.501 differences are moreso software (non-UI) fixes. The rom is based off of a different phone so your issues derive from the base that NilsP utilizes and the way he customized the rom. Don't get too hung up over the differences as it is inconsequential. The version of Android is more vital as Google incorporates fixes that you may/may not notice.
6) Not sure if you're aware but XDA has a ten post limit before allowing users to comment in the development section. Just post a few more comments and try helping others and you'll be at the minimum in no time.
Thanks for the heads up on the notification bar, I hadn't read anything elsewhere about it so I thought it was something I wasn't aware of for a fix. I actually thought of sending a PM, but wasn't sure if I was locked out of that also being a noob poster. (yep, read about the 10 post pre-qualification, how about this weather were having?)
Odd, I just pulled down my notification bar and my weather text now shows up in white, Lookout is still in a dark grey though.
I'm not worried about the pattern lock, I used to use it when it first came out, not so much anymore, was just playing around with different things. I didn't want to install a bunch of stuff and then have to do it all over again if I installed another ROM (I had 104 apps on it beforehand, did I mention android backups suck?).
Yep, did read about the wallpaper issue, I just put it in there for some odd reason.
Unlock spin? Or left/right swipe? Currently I pull the ring up to unlock the screen, and I did get that zoom in animations. But sometimes, like 1/20 times, swiping to the right (or was it left?) it will spin through all the screens and stop on the middle one. And I didn't think I had swiped it that fast, I just tried it, and I see what your saying if you swipe it fast. Maybe I did swipe it fast after unlocking, but it usually surprises when it does it so I must be thinking I didn't swipe it that fast. It only seems to do it right after unlocking though, other times it just does the one screen at a time.
Ok on the 4.06-4.08 issue then, I just read that the OTA 4.06 was real buggy and 4.08 fixed a lot of issues. I didn't get the OTA notice till about 3 weeks ago and didn't investigate as to why it wasn't taking until last week.
I'm trying the V6 Supercharger next as sense reloads after I exit some applications, not always, but enough times to be annoying.
My contract is up in mid January, most likely will be looking into a new phone then and ICS.
Oh yea, go ahead and send a pm if you ever need assistance. I'm sure that is open to every user regardless of post count. Best part is, NilsP is a very responsive dev so I'm confident he'll help you out if you post in any of his threads or send a pm.
That is odd but hopefully someone can assist with the notification bar color. I agree with you about checking for bugs in a rom, it is an investment since you want "stable" and "working 100%" the moment you install a rom. When you run the V6 script working bulletproof the launcher. Ever since I bulletproofed the launcher I haven't had an HTC Sense reload in weeks and it works great. I have the same idea as well, I'm likely purchasing the Nexus this spring.
Thanks, ill send him one when I get a chance, getting pulled in a couple directions at the moment (shouldn't even be typing this!)
Man, that V6 install takes a lot! Dependent on other things installed which are also dependent on other things installed, have my work cut out for that!
I installed battery minder last night (one of the few I found that says how many hours I have left) and it's the same thing in the notification screen, black and dark grey text. Lighter grey then Lookout though.
I'd even wait on an upgrade a little, but my compass isn't working right, skymap has me moving all over the place. I forget what HTC is coming out with 2012, I'm sure things will keep going crazy.

Either flash a Sense 3.5 rom and use the stock HTC music player app OR purchase a new HTC phone.
If you want to try the Gingerbread OTA release, you can flash Stock Plus Gingerbread. The ROM is almost completely stock, with a few fixes and a little bit of the bloat removed. Also, you won't lose root as you would with the update installed OTA.

[Q] Optimizing your phone?

Hi all,
I have owned my Nexus 4 for about 4 months now, and while I love the ability to customize my experience, I am always looking at ways of customizing that streamline things instead of adding more functionality. Rather than having 12 ways to do one thing at all times, I'd rather have the single best way to do 12 things at my disposal. I don't need HALO, the notification shade, and a notification widget all running at once to inform me about new notifications. When I look at the ROM scene on XDA, it seems like people are really interested in adding things to the standard android experience, but nobody seems to be working on trimming the unnecessary features away while adding things that work better/look and feel more elegant. I don't just mean debloated GApps packages, I mean ROMs that use Android's customizability do things better than Google intended.
To give a personal example, I am running stock Android on the Matr1x kernel with the Xposed framework installed to enable Pie Controls so I don't waste screen space, change the battery indicator to a circle/percentage, quick settings to get easy access to torch, settings, wifi, etc in the notification shade, and unicon to enable custom icons in the Google Experience Launcher so all my icons are uniform. This way I have as much information as possible easily accessible at all times, and my phone has a standardized look throughout. However, I feel like I am sticking it all together with tape and strings, and I am still stuck with some of stock android's bloat. It would be great if there were some people out there who shared a similar desire for streamlining the Android experience. Do any of you at XDA have any advice for me as I look for such a ROM, or is this about as good as it's going to get? If I could code I'd just do it myself .
Anyway, thanks for your time!

Plus one for this. Are you running KitKat 4.4.2?
4.4.1 at the moment as I haven't found the time to flash the update manually. Glad to see someone else gets where I am coming from .
