hi people
i got my brand new HD2 unlocked a few days ago and it shipped with 1.43 ROM.
It was freezing occasionaly and so i thought a ROM upgrade would help.
i downloaded TMOUS 2.02 ROM and did a HSPL and then flashed my device with it.
now after flashing the phone works fine but i am getting three lines horizontally written accross the screen saying "HTC CONFIDENTIAL" and the other two lines are my IMEI number and anotherr number starting with HTC.
please help me because these lines are simply not going
i know i am a newbie
but i would really appreciate some help

The TMOUS 2.02 ROM is a test ROM so the "HTC CONFIDENTIAL" is there because of that. The 2.02 ROM dosnt handle a soft reset either. I recomend that you change to another ROM. Its not suited for everyday use.
I am a tourist too, but you are really an expert ...
Why the hack you are flashing a secret Test rom from htc???
There are a huge numbers of good cooked and/or stock roms available you can choose from.
As far as I was told the TMOUS 2.02 ROM is a test rom and will let you boot ONLY 1 time, so if you switch off your phone or do a soft reset - bingo - you will not be able to use your phone any more (no panic you can flash another rom).
But on top of it, I was told that this rom will send informations about your phone to htc ... once you are letting connect it to the provider and a data connection is up.
I guess this is why you see your IMEI on the screen.
There is ONLY one reason to flash this rom and this is to get the newer SPL on the phone instead of the normal 1.42 one, but than you have to know what you are doing and you need a OS rom which you can flash BEFORE letting the phone making a connection with the interenet ... (be carefull: you need a special OS whith the neccessary drivers for the new SPL, as far as I know it is NOT recommended to use this new SPL with cooked roms for the stock 1.42 SPL or the HSPL from bepe)
If there is no better advice from a real expert I would recommend that you flash your HD2 with a stock 1.66 rom for your region and than if you want you can HSPL again (or use the SSPL from bepe) and choose a rom which is suiting your needs from this forum.
Hope this is helping you.
Best regards
dingolino

Hi
I have just got a HD2 on T-Mobile, and don't like the fact that they have been playing around with the software. Opera won't play flash video as it looks to have been removed and the you tube app has been deleted as well.
Also my reception is worse than my MDA compact IV and I can even get HSDPA anymore at home. It mostly connects on G but sometime tries to flick to 3G then loses connection and goes back to G again.
I am thinking of flashing the phone with a different rom and radio. Which ones are people find best at the moment. I understand that you can release extra ram and make the phone use all of the 1GHz processor.
From reading the Wiki's I understand that I can HSPL the phone to 1.42, but most of the roms are saying spl 2.02 which I can't see anywere. Am I missing something here??
Can I flash the roms from the HTC site without Hardspl'ing the phone first? It won't accept my serial number, but there are some posted on here which will allow me to download it from htc??
Any help/advise with links would be a great help
Andy
Opera doesn't have flash, use IE. Even then it doesnt always work.
First off Tmo are really strict about their internet alloweages. I think if you go to their store you can have the child lock removed (on their by default) which blocks websties (and therefore apps related to sites) from being accessed. (try going on to youtube on opera over date connection, youll see what I mean)
And the whole rom issue, you can flash HSPL to your device if your current SPL is 1.42 some newer tmobile hd2's come with 2.02 spl which isnt compatible with HSPL. So to check it, power on the phone holding volume up (I think, may be volume down) and check what it says at the top of the screen (spl version)
to get out of the bootloader pull out the battery.
If your SPL version is 1.42 then you will be able to flash HSPL and start flashing cooked roms and radios.

I think you are mistaking the software version 2.02 with spl 2 in the cooked roms. Most (none?) of the cooked roms dont include spl at all. Only the leaked T Mob rom that gave us software version 2.02 (as oposed to 1.43 and 1.66) has spl 2 in it, so steer clear of that one, , besides, it's a test rom if i understand it correctly, and will only work for so many reboots.
My advice, instal HSPL and then pick either a 1.66 official room or a cooked one.
If one DOES have/require spl2 i'm sure itwill say so in the first post of that roms thread.
I was just wondering if anyone in Australia has tested this new ROM on their HD2 device as I'm interested in experiences people are having with it. I got a response back from HTC that says the included versions are as follows:-
OS Version:
5.2.21869
Manila Version:
2.5.20121431.1
ROM Version:
1.72.841.0
Radio Version:
2.07.51.22.2
Protocol Version:
15.32.50.070
HTC claim that it improves SMS messenging and improves the overall touch responsiveness and software lag on the device. Can anyone confirm as I'd like to know before I make the effort to upgrade/reinstall everything. I'm also hoping phone reception and bluetooth audio has been improved in the Radio version upgrade included in this ROM.

Can't really comment on this as it did not stay on my HD2 long enough for me to find out. I can however tell you that you cannot flash HSPL from this rom. It sets your SPL to 1.66 which HSPL2 cannot seem to deal with. I had to downgrade to the older rom version and then run HSPL1.
Why do want all that terrible telstra bloat? I can tell you your phone will run much faster without it.
I don't want all the Telstra bloat, I hate it. I was encouraged when I saw the message from HTC that all carrier customisations would be removed after upgrading the ROM
If I don't go with this HTC ROM, what custom ROM do you recommend? I assume Energy?

just to correct you slightly, HSPL2 wont work on any telstra, nothing to do with the spl version, it is the telstra model ID that fails hspl2.
You are correct about HSPL needing 1.42.0000 to install though.

I like Energy but there are quite a few other roms out there. ROMs are such a personal choice. What works best for me may not be to your taste. Try a few and see how you go, Most of the chefs in here have been around for quite a while and are very experienced in cooking so you really can't go wrong. Just don't forget to HSPL your phone first and read the ROM threads regarding which radio rom will work best with their ROM.

Ahhhh, thanks for the correction and enlightenment. I had a feeling it had something to do with the model ID as that is the error message I got when trying HSPL2. Sneaky Telstra bastards....
Ditto the problem with this new Telstra update, I had the same problem. It changes the SPL so to 1.66.0000 which will block any attempt to use another ROM or HSPL. Revert back to 1.48 and you'll be OK.

if you plan on flashing cooked roms, but want to try the 1.66 update before hand, you can install HSPL first, and then when you run the .exe shipped rom (over USB), it will only change the rom and the radio, leaving HSPL installed.

Thank you very much for the info! I got the telstra model. Unfortunately, I had upgraded the ROM officially to SPL1.66. And now I cannot use either HSPL or HSPL2 to flash the device!
Can you please tell me how to revert the SPL to a older version that I can use HSPL?? Thank you very much!!!!

My device originally had SPL1.42 on it. I did not flash to HSPL. And I upgraded to SPL 1.66 by flashing an telstra official rom, which brong me a SPL 1.66. And now I am stuck because I cannot use HSPL or HSPL2 to flash the SPL. Could you please tell me how to revert the SPL to an older version (1.42) then I could use HSPL to flash it again??? Thank you very much!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just realized that I could use the SPL revert procedure to revert the SPL
Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
All I need now its theolder Telstra ship ROM with SPL 1.42. I went to htc/australia wedsite, And they only have the new ROM available for download. Is there a place to download the older ship ROM?? Thank a lot!

This is easy, you just need to flash the older Telstra rom version that uses SPL 1.42.0000. The rom you are looking for is 1.49.841.1 and I think you can download it from HTCPedia. Just ensure it is the Telstra version. Flashing this will ovewrite your current 1.66 SPL back to the correct 1.42 SPL. When you have done this you can use HSPL version 1 and it will work. I know because I did it myself a few days ago
Correct. There is a telstra 1.49 (1.48?) rom floating about, several people have used it to downgrade. Start searching!
Feeling kind

hspl or hspl2? hspl2 doesnt work no matter what version spl you have. Use the first hspl.
try flashing RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship.exe and then the original HSPL and then a new ROM...

I was also told my HD2 was locked to Telstra but it was not, (I don't believe any of them are now) I can send you the rom I used if you like? HSPL2 won't work as has been said before but HSPL does.
Another option I used while trying to get the right rom/HSPL working was to use SSPL, this worked great but does not allow you to change the radio, and until you can do that there are a few roms you cant use as they don't get on with the Telstra radio.
ps. I had a lot of similar error messages along the way...
I Got it, works perfect, I used the latest T-Mobile Rom from the U.S. on my T9193 Telstra, and its beautiful..thanks everyone for all the very helpful info, I could'nt have done it without you guys and keep up the good work..
Hello People,
I'm wondering which is the best and most stable ROM for the HTC HD2. I've got one but I had problems with the Phone, reception would go bad sometimes, after it came back from Warranty from Hong Kong they put another ROM on where the phone problem is fixed, but it's unstable, freezes to a "HTC" Screen with green letters, after this requires a battery out and battery back in.
Anyway just looking for a ROM with Performance, Functionality and Stability in mind. What is the "Latest and Greatest" that you guys are using? I know opinions differ but hopefully I can get a general consensus.
Thanks Guys.
The "best ROM" discussion rarely brings a consensus... because the "best ROM" will always be the one you personally like best.
Imho, it is worth to try a few ones; since the flashing process is really fast with your HD2, everything is done quickly.
Almost all opinions about speed, stability, cooked-in apps etc. can always be read in each ROM thread - you don´t have to read everything, concentrate on the last couple of pages - and of course the first postings to see the design etc., the description of the chef him/herself.
Last, but not least, I believe almost nobody would claim official stock ROMs would be best... too much bloatware, odd versions, whatever. Most of that strange stuff is ironed out by the custom ROM chefs.
Thanks for the Reply,
I have been reading on how to Upgrade the SPL to 4.2, since I need it in order to Install Hard SPL, There is a certain file that I need to put on my Storage card but I can't find it, I thought there would be a link to it on the ROM Flashing Guide Stickies?
Thanks.
Well, it depends a bit from where you start.
When your current SPL version is below 3.03, no need to put anything onto your SD card, just flash HSPL with HSPL2.exe or HSPL3.exe - and go directly for 2.08.HSPL.
When your current SPL version is actually 3.03, you need to put a stock ROM image, which is very specific to your device, onto the SD card, and downgrade the SPL this way in a first step. Since this is really specific, there cannot be a generic link - except this one here (scroll down to "ROM sources"), where you´ll find links to many stock ROMs.
In the very same thread, you´ll find tutorials how to flash via SD card (eg. including how to extract a ROM image in order to put it onto your SD card).
Thanks,
Oh I thought it HAS to be 1.42 SPL in order for hard SPL install to work, that's what the Guide says. So is the real advice anything Below 3.03?
I'm downloading a old ROM for the HD2 from 2009, hopefully that will have a old SPL, but will it let me install it on my HD2, I recall the Installer on stock ROMS only allowing them to be installed on the HTC from the certain region e.g Hong Kong roms only work on Hong Kong HD2's, in that case finding a stock rom will be hard. Or is that not true?
Thanks.

In fact, to run custom ROMs, Android NAND ROMs or WP7 on an HD2, HSPL 2.08 is mandatory at this time. All devices with SPL 1.xx and 2.xx can more or less easily be flashed to HSPL 2.08.
Because there is no HSPL for SPL 3.03 yet, you have to make that downgrade first to 1.xx, after this, it´s easy to go to 2.08.HSPL.
As long as your device is unbranded (eg. not from an operator), it´s quite simple to find which region stock ROM is for you: Check the download options at htc.com support by entering the serial number of your HD2.

heres what i have done so far. i task29 the device tried to flash radio to 2.15. i found that my spl had to be either updated or downgraded and i have tried to upgrade it and it sits at the htc scree at 0%. i also have tried flashing an official rom which will not take either. any help would be much appreciated thanx in advance
oops, that's a manufacturing test spl, and cant easily be changed.
In a nutshell, flash a rom with spl 2.02 ( go see the "tmous test and stock roms" thread, second in the list do NOT NOT NOT flash the first rom in the list if you have a tmous) and then find the version of hspl that has been edited to work with spl 2.02, use that to set spl 2.08 and then you should be good to go.
Dont just dive in, read THIS and THIS and if you decide you need a goldcard then send me your sd cards unique serial and an email address.
could you link me to the tmous test and stock roms? or tell me what section its under please and do you have yahoo or meebo skype anything? i need help baaaaad its a customers fone and was supposed to be done tonight would appreciate alot if you could help me get this done
its in the winmo tmobile section. If the phoen isnt a tmous, then you will possibly need a goldcard since those roms are tmous roms.
I cant help you step by step, its 3am and im away shortly, good luck tho, and don't be rash, thats how mistakes get made.
2.03?
all those rom links are down do you know where i could get a 2.03 rom from? seem that was what worked for one of our members.
