Guys,
Looks like the folks at the Modaco Advent Vega tablet forum are also using the VeganTab version of the ROM for our Gtablets. Would any of the ROMs on their rom download page also work on our Gtablets?
Here is the link: http://android.modaco.com/content/a...6486/advent-vega-rom-software-updates-guides/
Anyone know if any of these Vega roms would work on the gtablet without modifications? Looks like they're also using the Vegan rom that the developers here made for the Gtablet.

I just tried Big Ideas ROM in our Gpad...It works but its all in chinese, have to set language to english and wifi is broken. Other than that everything seems to be fine. Had to build a boot.img though coz the included boot.img wont work.
UPDATE:
Figured out how to change language from Chinese to ENglish and did a wifi patch. Everything is functional so far. Will do further testing and might release Big Ideas ROM for our GPAD. BTW, its pretty snappy
This Big Ideas Rom dont even need a market fix.
Have been using the the Big-ideas variations since 1202 on my Zpad. Have had no issues with wifi, lag and market. What I did was NVFlash Big Ideas ROM then made a GAPPS update with update.script to delete all Chinese apps then pushed the Google apps. This has been working out quite well.
I guess what Rothnic proposed about using Big-ideas as a base then add Vegan stuffs is heading in the right direction.
Rom 1.06.05 (VEGA) is the base foundation for VEGAn beta 4/5, FYI. A lot of this is intermingled.
I do like that link, as they seem to update it frequently.
I love the file explorer in Big Ideas rom. Does anyone know what app that is?
I LOVE BIG IDEAS ROM!!! I'm building a Vanilla version and might upload it tomorrow after testing it

I'm confused... I thought that ZPad 3.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853310) already *was* essentially the vanilla version of the Big Ideas ROM, with the Chinese language stuff stripped out.
Thanks my understanding, as well.

I would try update 3. Be careful it says use at you own risk! Not sure if they are any newer than what we already have. i was just curious. Try taking a quadrant score before and after, see if it makes a difference. I admire your courage

I gave it a try awhile back sadly the USB key button was not functional of course. Simply clicking the USB key button in iFileManager makes it much easier, even if the translation is sometimes appalling

I worked around that issue by just simply making my usb system file a favorite which then gave me a direct link.

An update about the browser issue and a temporary fix:
I managed to get the browser working on a deodexed JVQ.
Here is a temporary fix until we find how to fix the browser issue without the need for any odex files. You need to be on fully a stock firmware(non stock kernel is OK), means no modded apk files or framework files, because I have only tested it on a stock firmware, but if your firmware is modded and you don't mind re-flashing if it goes wrong then use at your own risk, making a CWM backup is a good idea on moded firmwares, you can copy the files using CWM or manually, choose what works best for you:
Flash via CWM: (You need around 16MB of free space on /system)
CWM Package: Download (6.3 MB) MD5:f5b8cbdde94be7cf6e4604f0051334eb
Click to collapse
Click to collapse
How to copy the files manually: (You need around 16MB of free space on /system)
*Extract and copy the extracted odex folder with the odex files to your internal SD-card: Download (6.3 MB) MD5:2cff4b99c08d7b84af9c7e6838daccaa
*Put the phone on 'Debugging-mode' and connect it to your PC
*Open a command prompt and brows to the adb directory, then execute the following:
adb shell
su
busybox mount -o rw,remount /system
stop
cp -r /sdcard/odex/* /system/framework
rm -r /data/dalvik-cache/*
reboot
Click to collapse
Done, the boot will take a some time because the firmware will re-build the dalvik-cache but the browser will work fine after that.
Click to collapse

This is for developers and experienced users:
It's not that simple as it appears that 4 odex files must be on /system/framework in order to get the browser running as it should, these 4 files are:
bouncycastle.odex
core.odex
ext.odex
framework.odex
Remove one of these files and the circle collapses and the browser lags as you know.
I don't know if it's because the browser is programmed to look for the odex/classes files on /system/framework, if that is the case then it might be possible to change some lines in the browser classes files or the apk file itself.
I just wanted to share this with you so those with good-code-reader-eyes might have a clue on where to start looking.
Great, works on my modded deodexed rom with all mods still alive... you just need enough space in system and to wipe dalvik cache. Thanks!!!

Some members have reported that it does not work on deodexed modified firmwares, so making a nandroid backup is recommended before using the CWM package.
yeah, a nandroid is nice to have, thats for sure!
so listen to Ramad, you could also screw your config when using the odexed framework files together with deodexed ones!
i had luck
EDIT:
till i used the powermenu -- hot reboot and then fine
or changed the lockscreens --endless hot reboots
so it is not as easy as it seems at first (although autobrightness-mod, batterymod and rotary-lockscreen are working well)
hey Ramad,
You may have a look on the link below, where i explain why there's *no* lags with the browser.

Hi Eric
Did you try the browser on the deodexed version o XXJVQ, you will be able to deodex and use the browser, with or without modifications, on a stock firmware and it will behave normally, but the browser will not be smooth at all when the whole firmware is deodexed, this is why we say it lags, because it does not response as it should and lags behind the command when you scroll or click on a subject as a picture or a link. I think that you will get a better idea of what I wrote when you flash the deodexed firmware and try the browser.
Hello Ramad,
The first think i did after downloading the odex Firmware was to deodex it...
I thought as many that the browser was buggy/laggy until i decide to reflash to stock odex and debug it.
I'm then 100% confident that there's no lag on the browser itself and that it responds well. You feel that there is a an lag only because it do not render the zoom/scroll animation.
The issue come from the whole deodexing of apps and framework in batch. Guess that the apk use one of them (or many) to render the animation.
I got some similar unexpected visual effect when i began to study apk and compile them by myself.
I will add some tips to reproduce into this post related to the mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330205#post15330205
Whatever,
It is nice and time saver to work together and see how to solve.

did you read this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132724

It is for SGS2 but could work for SGS1 (with the right files from proper SGS1 browser to work with)
Still, I beleve for the SGS1 browser problem we have to look in correcty deodexing framework.jar file as for me that delivers the lagging problem...
Cheers!
Is the JVQ browser installable on JVP deodexed?

I did read your post just now, sorry. I got my hands full now, uploading three stock firmwares, don't be so exited, they are all 2.3.3
Thanks again Ramad,i've put the files into the framework folder before flahing your stock deodex coming from the odex JVQ (plus the cfroot zimage and a little change in the updater-script to make a nowipe one as i always do,saying that just to be the more specific possible),and browser works indeed as it should.
I will try mods or little theme things step by step (as long as mods doesn't include framework.jar it should be ok?as for the odex mods without framework.jar preserve the browser?)
My noob's impressions already told me that the solution for that browser thing lies in the SamHaLeKe link.(browser new animations that must be well "declared" in the modified framework.jar...something like that?...)
Hum,sorry for thinking my opinion(sensation...)may belong here and for my surely difficult to understand english.
Hi SamHaLeke,
I went to read it...
Pulse-g2 did a regression by porting the classes from a older Browser.
Great if it work, but it is like to use the JVP Browser on JVQ...
If you don't mind the new features brought by the JVQ release, click to the following link. At the end of the post, there is my JVP modded browser.

hi eric!
that was the first i tried, after realizing that deodexed rom + jvq browser = a mess!
so i used your jvp version and had fc at launch, even after deleting browser-data.
so i went back to deodexed jvq (because of my mods) + your modded jvq browser + ramads 4 .odex files and it works well (browsing wiith jvq-browser), my mods are also "quite" okay:
- battery mods and theming: works!
- autobrightnessfix works
- tv animation works
- all 9 lockscreens are working (changing not)******
*****--> powermenu + 9-lockscreen switching is broken due to stock framework.odex but when i delete framework.odex and do a reboot, i can switch between all lockscreens and apply them (jvq browser laggs awfully now beause of that)
now i copy the framework.odex back & do a reboot: jvq browser is working again without lagging and i can use the new lockscreen aswell!
EDIT:
using dexopt (in the right bootclass order) to RE-ODEX my modded deodexed framework didn't help. now the browser laggs again.
maybe this might be helpful aswell
Yes it help a lot...
As , for sure, we now where to focus .
I just deodexed the framework by hand, and found something about opengl and jit, and the JVQ browser use openGl to render the scroll/zomm animation.
However it close to midnight in Sri Lanka, and i will resume the investigations tomorrow.
Have a good night/morning or afternoon depending your location .

I was wondering the same.
I have yet run it his browser through the paces completely, but it seems to be running great so far. It is fast as heck and super smooth. I'm in the US using a Captivate on Continuum 6.1 (deodexed JVQ based).
Here are some updates files from the Acer Iconia Tab A200 (Honeycomb 3.2.1), that seems to be a "low-cost" A500.
All files can be found here : http://vache-android.com/v1/index.php?site=files&cat=38
It's including a new Acer Ring app and lockscreen shortcuts.
It also have a new Acer Iconia Tab bootanimation.
Screenshots :
What it does not have :
-Rear Camera
-Dolby Mobile (or it's not active atm)
-Maybe other things i didn't see.

New lockscreen looks very nice!
Yep, there's also a shortcut to take screenshot, really usefull, and to open the app drawer. That's a nice idea from Acer.
Yay something new!
But alas, Android 4 is on the horizon. And we all know how Acer loves to update!

ASUS and some other HC ROMs have had screen-shot built-in for awhile right from the factory (hold app history button down etc.) I don't think you had to be rooted, but I could be mistaken since these were custom ROMs I was using and was always rooted.

Ah okay, my bad, didn't think they had it.
acer did good job!
A200 is 3.2.1,and A500 is only 3.2?
Is this ROM in development?
How is it functioning so far?
It does not have back camera as in the a200 does not have one / and / or this ROM does not have it?
Does anyone have a list of bugs in this ROM?
I would love to test when I get home, want to know if it's worth flashing!
PS Love the lockscreen!
Damn, I get to the Acer logo, and nothing. Just sits there.
Without having checked, I'd guess that most "H/W not working" problems are simply missing drivers (i. e. we'll have to wait for Acer to fix them or reverse-engineer existing ones -- which I'm not going to try as it tends to be one huge pain in the ___). Other than that, I guess this ROM is fairly stable with minor glitches in the UI and framework (most leaks are, I haven't tried this one).

The stuff that doesnt work seems to be because the a200 doesnt have it, ie the a200 has no rear facing camera so this rom has no rear facing camera. In a sense its missing, but for what it is the rom functions fully. I'm actually shocked to see this thread, i didnt know this was posted on XDA and found it elsewhere about a week ago and have been using it as my daily not realizing it was a leaked rom (rookie mistake not checking the thread date for the other forum that had it) and I actually like how smooth it is and feel like its just as stable as the stock a500 rom. Then again, I dont extensively push my tablet to the limit, I do my budget/check book, play around online and occasionally hook up a ps3 controller and play some SNES so maybe someone else should comment on the stability of the rom. Only problem I can find is I hear the latest market is 3.4.4 and this rom seems stuck on 1.1.0 and I cant figure out how to get the market all the other roms had(it has the market I had when I pulled this thing out of the box, not the one that came when I updated).
This file is an optimized version of gps.conf for Portugal that allows faster gps locking by using servers and configurations specific for Portugal.
Instalation:
Case 1 - Before new ROM is installed
Open the zip file of the ROM and put the gps.conf file inside the /system/etc folder, replacing the original file. Install ROM zip as usual.
Case 2 - After ROM is already installed
With any file manager that has access to system folder (like rootexplorer), copy the file to /system/etc/, replacing the existing file. Reboot.
Note: I'm not the author of the file, but I don't remember where I got it... all credits to its creator
you can also try fasterfix from the market to set localisation information in the GPS.conf file.

I did just that and waited 64s but nothing. But I think I did something wrong, it says to install the ROM zip as per usual. What's that? I don't see any ROM zip. As I said, I'm new to this and I'm willing to learn, sorry about that...
thanks

You must extract the file from gps.zip then replace the one in \etc\gps.conf then reboot your device and try it. If it don't work maybe it is not compatible. For instance, I'm using Aurora last version on my u8800 with a internet data plan and I don't need to tweak nothing it works great from install without modifieing nothing. Try with a active data plan to see if it works better/quicker.
Rom zip is if you'll instal a new rom you can extract the content of gps.zip to the new rom zip and flash all together. Hope to had helped you.

Oh, ok, thanks then! I guess I'm just going to search a little bit more and see if I can find anything for my phone.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing! I'll test it tomorrow
Great it really works, thx
Hi.
Does this personalized file interfere with using GPS outside Portugal?
Thanks.
Hi!
Is this conf better than using faster gps?
Thanks
I've been beating my head against the ground for two full days trying to get a working solution for CIFS under 4.1.2.
Anyone ACTUALLY gotten it to work? 4.1.1 JB CIFS.KO (and related) files do not appear to work. The latest franco kernel Milestone 6 doesn't seem to work.
I NEED CIFS - so I cannot upgrade to 4.1.2 until I'm sure I can get CIFS working again.
Anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.
I also do not have this working... Anyone have a fix?
the .ko files survived the update... but still not working...
EDIT: I would subscribe to this

I already did just waiting...
SmoothROM 3.2 (4.1.2) supports proper CIFS .. I'm free!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899024
My current workaround: es file manager's lan support.
Since it is working in a 4.1.2 custom rom, I wonder if the CIFS.KO file was updated or ... if something was built into the ROM to support it.
I'd happily dump the CIFS.KO file if anyone here wants to see if THAT is all it would take.
Please dump the CIFS.KO file here, I'll giv it a try!
Sorry I'm kind of new to all this lingo, but do you mean the File Manager? I seem to be having that problem right now.

It is just a file browser with lots of features.
Google Play > search > "es file manager"
CIFS works fine with stock 4.1.2 and the faux123 kernel (v012b6es). It has CIFS builtin, no cifs.ko needed.
For those looking to get cifs working on a stock kernel, XDA member chrkad was able to compile the modules to work on stock rooted JB 4.1.2 JZO54K kernel 3.1.10-g009b6d1. See forum link below;

Negative on stock, rooted 4.2; still using ES LAN support (which still works surprisingly well)
