As a work around this I backed up all my stuff with Titaniun Backup then copied the Titanium Backup folder from the SD card to the external SD card. Means that after any messing around with CMW or a new rom you can still have access to your apps.
Hope this helps...

Im not rooted but i was wondering if applications i downloaded from the android market and music i downloaded save on the phone or on the sd card and if they save on the phone is there anyway to move them to the sd card? Thanks
theyre saved on the phone, and cannot be moved to the sd card unless you are rooted and have an apps2sd partition on you sdcard. You dont need to move anything because there is 190MB of space reserved for apps, and most apps take up less than a MB.
Google will make a feature to move apps to your sd card once security issues are addressed.

Unless you install appmanager.
You can then BACKUP the non-protected apps to your sdcard for keeping.
if you have root explorer and root you can do more.....
Music will save to your SD card, though, unless it is a protected download from T-Mobile.

Lots of stuff.
Installing apps to the SD card
Turn your phone into a wireless access point for tethering to a laptop
Modify the Hosts file so ad supported apps no longer display ads
Install modified OS builds
There are others but those are the reasons I have a rooted G1 and I will root my Nexus when I get it.
EDIT. The wireless tethering is the big one. I use that the most. Apps to SD isn't as much of an issue because of the additional storage on the Nexus compared to the G1.

Here's an idea... how about reading a couple of stickies in the Development subforum, as well as the numerous threads in the HTC Dream and Magic forums regarding the benefits of rooting. The information is all there.
Hi, i am a new user for android OS. And one day i wants to install some apps in SD card, but doesnt now what to do first. i try to do something myself, but only thing that i do is split the SD card memory, and now some space from my sd card memory is not avaiable. Can so9meone can say what to do first... to install some apps in SD and install some unofficial 2.1 android version on tattoo.
P.S. - I am latvian and not know the English language perfectly, so maybe that is the reason because i dont understand what to do first...

Download AppMonster or Astro from the market. These will allow you to copy apks to your SD card. But note, you can't run apps from your SD card, you can only swap them in and out of memory.

Hi could anyone tell me how to save Apps to an SD card in my Z2?
You cant... its because Google decided to restrict it in 4.4

You can't, read about the restrictions of KitKat. and if you have root you can use an app to do that.
Seriously? Can't believe I just found out... what is the point of this restriction? is andriod trying to copy Apple with their restricted iphone storage?

I don't think Google likes SD cards, and they try to promote their Google Drive. None of the Nexuses have SD card slots.

What about applications though, you can exactly move them to cloud to free up space. The Z2 only has 16gb and with apps getting bigger and bigger that's really going to be a big limitation.

So your apps use 12GB storage? That is how much free space you have. For backup apps you can just move the backup folder to SD card. You can have Nandroid backup on SD card aswell.
Also music and films go to SD card. There are exploits for Spotify to move the folder to the SD card.

You should be able to save photos/videos to SD card still (there's an option in the camera app).
There is an option to transfer data like videos, photo's & music in "storage" , which I know does not solve the problem but is good news for Z2 developers because this shows that it's possble to do it & create roms with that purpose in mind...
There's no problem on galaxy devices coz their native folder manager "My files" bypasses this restriction.
I hope Sony creates their own native manager to fix that!

Could someone test following: connect device with usb debugging, start cmd and try adb shell pm set-install-location 2. Only do it if you know adb.

Try a Xposed module named XInternalSD
Try foldermount. On my Z2 it works but I have the premium version. I am not sure if it also works with the free version.

Free version should work also, I believe difference is in number of pairs allowed.
Thanks for the reply guys! I tried folder mount and it indeed worked for me. But i have another concern, i dont know if its just my phone or others are also having this issue. Do you have problem installing some apps? It says No space available but i still have 9gb available in my internal card. Hope u can suggest what i can do to install any app i want. Thank you!

Let's go out on a limb here but have you tried folder mount?
Still can't do it with new update?
So let me get this straight, even with the new update(4.4.4), you still can't move apps to sdcard on the Z2???
I'm unrooted/stock, just got the device, but I'm shocked to know this, I should've looked more into it before making the purchase. I have link2sd, and I noticed it just takes me to the app in app info(which I could do by myself through settings), and I still don't have an option to move apps to sd card.
Am I missing something? I have to root to move apps to sdcard with the z2 on the latest stock rom and firmware??
I didn't want to start a new thread and saw this one, among others.
Is it possible to fully install apps on my SD card instead of the phone itself?
As the games I'm wanting to play are around 1.5-2gb Each and I can only have like 2 installed at a time.
When I move to SD card it only moves around 50mb of the game over and keeps most of it on the phone
Is it not possible to play games that are fully on the SD card?
Yes but you need root access and ROM Toolbox

I use an app called FolderMount that can move over large folders to the external SD card and then map it as if it were still there. I use it for games mostly. Some games take up a TON of space. You need to have root first.
I want to know is there any way of moving the Internet app to SD Card, i know there is option by creating second partition on SD Card, but is there any other way, the app itself is taking 200mb...
There is same app on Google play so i though i can just uninstall it using titanium backup, and then install from play store, then i will be able to move it to sd card? I know i sound dumb but i need your opinion is there any other option before proceeding?
