USB Tethering - Acer Iconia A500

Hey I was thinking if USB Tethering will be possible without rooting the A500 once we get the official 3.1 OTA Update??

Not sure what you mean, but I use TetherGPS to get instant location data from my phone to mt tab.
Works well.

[Q] BT tethering without rooting phone or transformer?

Is it possible to get a phone (samsung galaxy ace) and the transformer properly paired and connected via BT without rooting either of them?
Because I do not want to have to root as I dont think I know enough about Android to be able to do this confidently and not brick either device.
Thank you for any help.
I did search for this but hope I havent overlooked a possible answer.
you should have no problem pairing the two of them for simple things such as transferring files. Unless you have the option for tethering on your phone available, I doubt you will be able to tether via bluetooth and use the internet without being rooted.
PDANet
Allows you to tether via blutooth, just be carefull with your permissions when disconecting.
Just use the hotspot app
Good morning,
I have been following this forum quite a bit, and even before getting myself a Transformer, I was quite annoyed by this tethering thing. Of course, when I got mine, this was the first thing that I've tried, even before upgrading to Honeycomb 3.1. So, the Wi-Fi hotspot on my HTC Desire combined with TF works flawlessly. I do not understand why you guys are having problems with.
I did root my Desire to get some applications which need root (Titanium backup), but nothing else to enable the Hotspot.
Everything which I'm using is stock Android and everything works without problems.
And a side-note, the TF simply works as expected and as advertised, no problems whatsoever

Asus TF on Honeycomb 3.1

Have iPhone and can Bluetooth tether with it.

Using the above app and having root on the phone, you can wifi tether asus transformer that is not rooted. There are a few errors, but all and all it does work.
It depends on the phone's hotspot. When I first got my TF and non root, I tether to my N1 jsut fine. The TF just see my N1's hot spot as another wifi AP.
curious.. why would you want to tether your ASUS TF101?
the TF101 only has WIFI unless yuo habve the TF101G with the simcard slot.
the only time i could see you tethering your TF101 is if you had a mobile data service plan on it and you coudl share that with other devices and laptops.
if you just have the standard TF101 with wifi only and you tether it that seems like waste sharing the Wifi connection that other devices could easily just connect to anyways with out connecting through the TF101.
now since i have a samsung vibrant from Tmobile i do enable tethering on my phone and thne i connect my TF101 to my Samsung vibrant so that i can use it on the road but i jst dont see why anyone would want to enable tethering on a wifi only device.
i do notice that in wireless setup it has the option to enable hotspot but that makes no sense. why would i want to enable people to connect to my wifi only device that i am already getting wifi from somewhere else?
seems like an option that was meant to be on the TF101G but they left it enabled on the standard TF101
If I recall correctly, tethering is built in to Froyo and later as long as your carrier hasn't disabled it in their build for your phone. Or are you talking about something different?
I have a Nexus 1 also, tethering is not a problem with it because it simply acts as a regular wifi hotspot, the problem is if you have a phone that will only send out an adhoc wifi spot (like a symbian phone for example). The non-rooted transformer and other Android devices can not pick up an adhoc connection, unlike laptops and iOS devices which have no problem with them.
Add me to the don't understand list. I tether all sorts of device including unrooted transformer, iPad2, etc. to my rooted Evo.
my nexus tethers without root
This is an issue? My TF works perfectly with my Vision/DesireZ/G2 no problem.
What I'd REALLY like to see is a working USB tether. It seems dumb that I have to setup a Wifi hotspot then plug my phone into my TF in order to charge (since using the hotspot gobbles battery)

USB Tether Android Phone To TF??

Right now if I want to get my TF to use the cell network I need to setup a Wifi hotspot on my phone, connect my TF to the network then plug my phone into the TF to charge.
Wouldn't it make more sense to just USB tether?
Yep, would like to do this too with a DesireHD, USB tether is preferred while I am travelling.
In order for that to happen your tablet must have the correct drivers for your phone to do USB tether.
I don't think those drivers exist for Android tablets. I can be wrong though.
pdanet has a beta version that allows wifi tabs to be tethered to android phones over USB.

Depends what phone you have. I have a rooted htc desire, and i just use the hotspot widget. Once you set it up, it's just one touch of the widget for me to tether to my tablet. I definitely prefer this way than using the usb. Also I can still have internet without needing the transformer dock.
Not sure if the phone has to be rooted or if it's part of the gingerbread update.
Ever since I got my tablet I have just been using the wireless hotspot on my HTC (T Mobile G2) with the stock hotspot. Works like a CHARM! I also use the TF to send/receive text messages and just leave my phone plugged in across the room at work. So it is nice.

I have a HTC Inspire rooted/desire hd....and if you are running any type of custom ROM other than stock you have the ability to use the tethering without the plan due to a special patch.

I use the hotspot tethering on my non branded Desire, the tethering options are often removed if you use the branded oses.

[Q] How do you tether?

I have heard about 300 varieties at connecting my phone, (Thunderbolt)'s internet 3G/4G connection to my Acer Iconia.
I am just curious how y'all get it to work. I have tried Barnicle, [ad-hoc, not immediately supported by Honeycomb] (Works fine on my laptop [LinuxOS]
PDA net Bluetooth Dun, (Don't have the option in Honeycomb to enable bluetooth device for internet usage. (I do on my mom's Xoom))
Anyway, I am just curious how you guys are able to get this going. I have heard WiFi is faster, but Bluetooth is more energy conservative.. I'm only worried about batter on my phone, however.
I am running Honeycomb Stock+root 3.1, and CM7 on my TB
Thanks in advance for your patience. xD

From Your phone select Settings, Wireless and Network, Tethering, Mobile AP
Turn it on and it will create an Access Point called Android AP
Connect your tablet by WiFi and you're done.

PDAnet/FoxFi Compatibility With Nougat 7.0 on LG G6

Does anyone know if PDAnet/Foxfi is working on the LG G6 running Android 7.0 Nougat?
Would someone with an activated LS993 mind testing FoxFii 2.19 with PDAnet 4.15?
Just need someone with an activated Sprint LS993 (LGG6) to test FoxFi 2.19 with Full version key. Just install both FoxFi apks on phone and install PDAnet on Windows 7. Test USB mode and bluetooth if possible.

Nope, doesn't work. It says I'm not subscribed to data tethering. This sucks

Can you try USB mode with a cable to see if that works?
Ran into this with the V20. PdaNet does not support wifi tethering with Nougat, and by their statements, it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon, or ever. However, cable tethering does work (speeds may vary a little differently tho) and for devices that support it, Bluetooth tethering does also.
It wasn't until the V20 was rooted that I was able to get a regular wifi hotspot back, which of course rendered my PdaNet useless anyway.
Which wifi hotspot you used?

I was able to use the built-in hotspot, but only after rooting the phone which had it baked into the ROM to workaround the provisioning check. Without rooting though, the only option I had at the time, was to use PDANet while tethered via USB
