anyone flashed the "ec.com" with EC_Flash? - Acer Iconia A500

I went ahead and flashed the 3.1 update of the ec.rom
ITs done in shell with "EC_flash ec.rom"
and it just flashes for like 30-40 seconds and reboot..
Anyone knows if this actually does matter?
i have not checked bootloader, if its changed in any way yet..

ok, so i should actually include this in the next 3.1 release. so all users get it(that use my mod).
or make a separate one maybe? havent seen others do it? and if it helps, it helps, right..

best bet is to make it separate... don't know how good is to flash it every time you flash a rom... make sure you put the one in the 3.1 leak rom... the first Chinese rom leak has one and the final version of 3.0.1 has one and they are all different..

Did you try this? better than the original one they put out? I'm wondering why it's the same version number. Seems like a good way to confuse people.
Supposedly there were issues with downloading the originial release, so they had to correct that. But, the version they put up is the same one as before.
I've got all 3 "versions" of the new ROM now (leaked, first official issue, and this new one now too) and they're all the same.
Confusing? Yes. Big deal? Not really
so basically this isn't going to fix any issues? you downloaded it and it's the same everything? Why would they bother?

Well yes it's the same as the first release of the 2.13 ROM if that's what you mean. I think they just put it back up because there's people who didn't get it before they had to pull it temporarily for the downloading issues. I assume it'll stay available there from now on.

I used the First release and still have it on my computer at home. I downloaded the leaked version and it was a godsend. I hear when they made it official on the 18th it caused people a lot of problem even bricking. according to the link they where having server issues and that is why they had to pull the official release but I guessed they fixed the issues now. It is the same ROM version as the one I have so your guess is as good as mine. I think sirphunkee has them all downloaded but has not implemented them and is still running 2.10xxx

Correct, and I should have made that clear...still on 2.10, haven't flashed any of the upgrade downloads.
Somewhere in one of the threads in this section about the upgrade, the leaked version and the first "official" releases were compared and found to match bit-for-bit. Also, T-Mobile forums had confirmation that the recent re-release is identical to the one they put up before the download issues. So, by the commutative property of Windows Mobile Mathematics (WMM), they're all the same
However, that's not to say that the end experience from those who have flashed any of the three doesn't vary greatly. Some report a near-magical cleansing of demons, others are suddenly needing an exorcism...and this is across all three "releases" of this ROM.

I forget where I read...but a lot of people where having issue when the flashed to a custom rom then flashed to the upgraded tmobile rom with out returning their phones back to stock. I guess that was a major issue. Or people had to factory reset then run the upgrade I didn't do either of those things when I flashed and it worked great. I mean I didnt have CHT or Editor on but I did have a bunch of apps.
I bought my HD2 last week and the rom it came with from the factory is 2.13.531.1. I have had the phone freeze on me 2 or 3 times in the week I have owned it. Even though the rom that was just released is the same version would it still be a good idea to flash it? I am coming from a G1 and on occasion have flashed a rom and the phone ran like crap. Then upon re flashing the same exact rom the phone ran like normal.
I upgraded last evening, despite my initial trepidation.
Everything seems smooth now--a lot of the hiccups when texting seem to be gone (out of order texts, highlighting of last text sent and lag when trying to write a text that is part of a longer thread).
Swype is working a 100x better.
So far, so good.

That happens with winmo as well as android....after flashing a ROM, sometimes either a re-flash, or an immediate hard-reset is needed to get it to "stick". In fact, most chefs recommend doing a hard-reset right after a new flash, just to be safe, and I've seen numberous times where a buggy install is fixed perfectly just by doing that. So, if you're fine with the effort involved, I would certainly suggest it...it certainly can't hurt
Cool. Thanks for the info sirphunkee.
Software Upgrade or ROM
I downloaded the update from T-Mobile and have it running on my HD2. Was this an update to my ROM, so a hard reset will reload this update? I talked with a T-Mobile rep on the phone who said a hard reset would remove the update and I would have to re-install it.

Good thing you asked here to be sure
No, a hard-reset will only "reload" whatever the currently flashed ROM is...whether it's an official update or a custom ROM.

Update 3.1.01.5.0032

Update 3.1.01.5.0032 is now available. The description stated that the update was for memory optimization. The initial boot after the update took just over 5 minutes. Hopefully it's not that long all of the time. I haven't used it much since the update. I will report back after I use it for a while and give an update on how it's working.

You coud download the CWM recovery backup of 0032 (latest 3.2 load) and install CWM recovery. Install the backup and you would have the latest. I already had to help one individual that blindly rooted his Ausi Thrive with the 009 US 3.1 load and put his device into a boot loop. He is now running the 0029 HC 3.1 load with no issues.
While here in Japan we received a 3.1.02.5.0005 update a week and a half ago ...

Well, kinda. You can not update without unrooting.
Having some trouble updating
Whenever I try to update it shows the Android with a Yellow triangle with an Exclamation point in him.
My thrive is rooted with the Netflix fix, should I just unroot and try it or should I try more drastic measures?
Also dalepl will you have another auto-rooter for 32?

You have to unroot to ba able to update. I do not think you would have to undo the NetFlix fix, but to be safe, I would. As for a root tool for 0032, it is already posted on ThriveForums.org and TabletRoms.com.
Just would like to say hi to everyone here. I am new to this forum and recently purchased a thrive....few questions on the update.
Anyone experience a slower/laggy performance after this update? To me, seems it was running better before.
Also, if I reset the tab, will the update revert back to the way it was 2 days ago when I first purchased it?
Thanks in advance...looking forward to learning more and eventually rooting this baby...after I edumikate meself on all that..lol

Thanks Paul. I will try a reset. I assumed that a sw update was kind of like any app install and that a reset would return it to factory (as purchased).
Is there a such thing as a "hard reset" that will do this rather than the reset through the os?

Th updatews actually replace or patch the OS on the device. The device uses this image when reset So, no, there is no way to just reset the device to revert back to a different load. You can flash the previous load back onto the device.

Custom ROM -> ICS

Just wondering, if I were to flash to a custom rom, such as Thor... then a few months later ICS comes out for our tablets, what would the upgrade process entail?
I'm hesitant to try a custom rom, because when ICS finally comes I don't want there to be extra steps in order to get the update.
Anyone know how difficult/easy this is going to be? Will it involve having to flash back to stock first, then OTA to ICS?
TIA!

Not trying to be rude but honestly, if youre afraid of a few extra steps than rooting and android is not for you. I suggest an apple product.
But to answer your question, when official ICS comes out OTA Im sure devs will create custom roms that you can just flash. I mean we already have ICS ports in the works.
Why would you want crappy OTA ICS when you could have a faster, custom rom ICS .

Don't assume. I already have ICS running on my Galaxy S; I'm sure I've flashed and reflashed android devices just as much as anyone else here. It's not about being afraid. It's about convenience for a device I've come to rely on day-to-day.
Thanks for the post, anyways. But I'd still like to hear what the process would be to go from a custom rom to the offical OTA ICS.

If u rely on this day to day, u do NOT want to flash an ICS rom yet. Not even close for day to day use.Stick with what u have and just be patient.

I agree wait for the kinks to be worked out.
If you rely on this device pretty heavily, and you still want to get ICS when it comes out, I would just recommend flashing a custom ROM now that is known to be pretty stable. like you suggested, Thor's ROM seems to be a great one. It definitely improves the speed of the tablet and I have yet to come across any bugs that would inhibit my everyday use. Then, once developers have worked out a ROM for a relatively stable version of ICS, you shouldn't have any trouble switching to that and not worrying about the OTA updates.

Well, if you're familiar with all that, then you already know how to flash an OEM ROM and would know you already knew how to do it.
can be a bit of a pain going back to stock ota updates. Depends on availability of your devices localized stock rom.( or being able to backup stock rom first). Took me about 5 days to find the right files and steps to get ota working again. Didnt help that i am a total newbie, the iconia is my first android device never flashed anything before except a pc bios. Do your research first and make sure you can go back instead of getting stuck. Here is a link to get you started http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155664 another thing when you go back to stock you also go to the back of the line in the update queue as well. I was on 3.2.1 went back to 3.1 got ota updates up to 3.2 but have not recieved 3.2.1 update again yet cheers.

Verizon Pushing Update

Not sure what it is but a couple of people on the Verizon Site say they are being pushed a update
Even though it say's ed05 on the PDF
It is EH03
Here is the updated PDF from Verizon.
That PDF is ED05 and not the update I just downloaded and applied.
Firmware version
2.3.5
Baseband version
S:i500.04 V.EH03
Kernel version
2.6.35.7
Build number
SCH-I500.EH03
I just opened it and is definitely EH03, you have to refresh the page if you have opened the pdf page from Verizon's site recently to make it show the correct page.
Here ya go: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20768745/samsung_fascinate.pdf
good to know...was gonna be a tad irritated if it wasnt eh03 lol
First problem i have encountered is my picture share to bluetooth and then send to my computer keeps failing. I guess I will be doing a factory reset sooner than i had originally planned.
I have tried removing the device from the bluetooth list, but it seems i can't find delete anymore.
I have removed the phone from the computer, added it again, and still can't share pictures over the bluetooth. I will try a few other things later on after work.
Waiting to see how my battery life will be after streaming bluetooth music another 4 hours of my work day.
sd card encryption
Has anyone seen that the new GB update is supposed to contain SD card encryption? I have been waiting for that for the last year. Is it true and does it work?
I have the leaked eh03 package installed a few days ago on my phone, I was wondering if this OTA build is the same as the leaked one. Thanks!

So I rooted my wife's Fascinate and put CWM on it (no change in ROM other than root+recovery), and when I try to install this update it just boots to CWM. I figure it is trying to call a command to the original recovery which isn't there anymore.
Does anyone know how I can get this update under my strange configuration? This is probably the weirdest question ever, but can I flash the stock recovery back??

Odin back to ed05 which is the latest VZW release. (Package by pentafive). Let it fully load, then try to push the update through settings, about phone, system update.
I don't see the point in doing this but that's how I would do it

If u were the only one in the UK that hadn't recd the ota, then perhaps....but I don't believe this is the case, is it?
Don't go undoing all the good work u have done in getting back to stock, b/c u getting a little impatient
Being rooted may be a factor and also cwm if u have it. System apps that have been deleted or modified can too.
So can the actual rom depends which one it is.
Now that you're back on HC u could go all the way back to 3.0.1 then OTA up to 3.2.1 - this is what I did, at least I knew the rom was capable of OTA'ing.
I had trouble with the 3.2 OTA , it would fail on install. I used ARI (Acer recovery installer) to put stock recovery back and then unrooted with iconia root.
I then factory resetted in settings and voila, OTA 'ed to 3.2.1. When ICS came thru on Tuesday, it was all good
I know u think u can't do without some apps and games but I was surprised how much I didn't - I have a superbly sweet running stock ICS, unlocked,
rooted and twrp recovery . I do miss the Acer ring from flexreaper, just for bling sake, but other than that I'm a pig in s**t, happyaz
Cheers for that iam going to install 3.0.1 then OTA to ics hopefully iam back on honeycomb bootloader now as i was on ics bootloader as i installed flex rf1 but had battery drain issues and wifi dropping what is your batt like with the OTA ics ? have you had any issues thanks Do you have any links for a working 3.0.1 rom download tried all these from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878 but the 3.0.1 links are all down thanks
heck, tht ws kwik m8!!!!
Battery life is pretty good considering my tabs been getting a bit of a hammering but not noticed anything drastic in that area....
Browser is ALOT snappier expecially the forum pages, sometimes status bar would go all the way to nearly the end and stop, and then id have to wait, wait and wait. This one is just opened in a few secs!!!
Wifi and google apps are fine, no f/c or random disconnects
As i said i dont have half the apps an crap i used to have but boot time is minimal
its just great not to feel bogged down and getting frustrated cos i'm bloody impatient (peering over shoulder to make sure partner isnt lurking, lol)
so yeh m8 no complaints at all from this camper!!!! Good luck m8 and for me it was worth the w8......
oh that acer enhancement app - u need it - it actually updated bout an hour or so b4 the ota - so if u get that notification, u wont be far away.....
Cheers for clearing that up was reluctant to install The OTA ics becouse all the leaked or custom ones where draining the battery way to quick anyway going to install 3.0.1 and see if it OTA updats to ICS might be the best way for me to go as stock 3.2 was not updating will post back thanks again pal
