Downgrade to stock Froyo SBF from Gingerbread OTA? - Droid Pro General

I have the GB OTA installed on the Droid Pro, non-rooted. Is it possible to flash back to the stock SBF so that I can root?

Yes. You need the sbf file and rsdlite. it's very simple.

Do you have to activate this device again after you do the downgrade? Because I'm in Europe and my friend have problems with activating it and removing the Simlock when he bought it. He had to contact both Motorola and Verizon many times before they helped him. Even though, he bought it directly from Motorola, it had a Verizon simlock (and there is no Verizon in Europe) and phone was not activated (and it's supposed to be activated in Verizon network).
So, my question is, will it be necessary to do it again? Thank you for any help!

where could i get sbf?

Here's the 2.26.20 SBF. Then you'll have to take the OTAs for the 2.26.60 and 3.8.7 updates.

You can download the updates and flash via recovery

My main objective is to gain root but to my understanding I must downgrade back to 3.8.7, root, and then upgrade via TBH gingerbread update. Ok maybe Im doing something wrong but everything goes fine up until when it says something about "re-enumerating" on RSD. After that the process fails with an error code of 0x703E....any suggestions on what I should do to fix this problem?

How to unroot 2.2 OTA?

Guys,
I was wondering if it possible to unroot My Droid X that has 2.2 OTA from Verizon? I tried to unroot with a few root/unroot problems but once I reboot the Black Ninja is still there and I'm still rooted. The only reason why I want to know just in case I might have to return my phone to Verizon . Thanks in advance.
There may be an easier solution but why not use RSD and the OTA 2.2 SBF. I know it is not a complete SBF for OTA 2.2 but it should reload the OTA 2.2 system files thous removing root and restoring the phone back to OTA 2.2.
Do you know where I might be able to get the 2.2 OTA ? THanks.
If you follow this link you should be able to get RSD as well as the SBF file needed.
The 2.2 sbf file is just the system files without any apps? Would I be able to get the official 2.2 ota once I flash with the.2.2 system only sbf?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
The SBF should be the system files so I would think it would have all the stock apps with it as well. To be honest I haven't tried using it to see what it restores but like I said I would assume all the stock apps should be reinstalled with it I would imagine.
Then what's the difference between the official 2.2ota sbf that isn't released yet?

I'm in the same boat as you. (got a replacement phone today and the wife updated it before I got home) I assumed there would be a simple way to root after the OTA but it looks like for now that isn't the case. I'm just going to wait a few days and see what happens.
Luckily .596 uses the same boot loader as froyo .340 so you can simply sbf the phone back to .340 then reroot and update to the prerooted .596 that p3droid posted on mdw.
SBF and root. Then you can flash the rooted version. Pm me if you need instructions on how to SBF.
Tethering using the official app costs money but there are other tethering apps
Oh ok, so like where can i find the other apps, n are they free? Also my phone was rooted n i was runnin the stock rom but i just sbf'd the fone and updated to 2.3 ota, can i still root my fone with the z4root? Or do i have to wait for something else?

Everything is explained in there up to Froyo and SBF

The GB OTA is not rootable.......yet. If you want 596 and root SBF back to 340 and install the pre-rooted 596,or wait for the devs to get it.

[Q] Gingerbread for Unlocked Droid Pro

I'm based in India and i have an Unlocked Droid Pro. I still have the stock Rom that is on the phone and i have not updated the phone because of the bad reviews i read on the droid forums. My questions are
1) If i update to gingerbread on my phone will it re-lock the phone to verizon as it did in an earlier OTA Update?
2) Currently my phone keeps prompting me to update to the 3.? OTA update that was already downloaded but i have not installed it fearing that the phone will get locked again. My question here is, Can i skip 3.? update and directly Update to Gingerbread
Your reply would be greatly appreciated

1- Updates don't lock the phone back to Verizon
2- You can't update OTA directly to Gingerbread. You have to go through 3.8.7.

To update via TBH you'll need to be rooted.
Otherwise you can apply the zip file that's available on the forum from stock recovery (doesn't need root).

I tried purchasing the TBS app from his website. But apparently I cannot buy it because im based in india and when its asking for address proof" there is no option for indian states, only american states can be seen. What a bummer

You can't root Gingerbread on the Pro yet. The only way to have rooted Gingerbread is through the Team Black Hat app.

When i was rooted with Z4root, and accepted a VZ update, it put my phone in limbo.
I still had the SU icon, but i did not have SU permissions on my phone. Even doing a factory reset did not clear everything out. I had to manually push the OS onto my phone, then reinstall the current VZ update.
I just ordered a new, unlocked, but vodafone-branded Motorola Pro... Is there going to be an OTA update or do I need to flash a certain ROM (there are a few around, but I guess they're all from verizon)?
cheers,
You can only play around on droid pro not Moto Pro coz there is no sbf

[Q] What is the right way to update to 2.3.4?

I have found a lot of information on the forums about updating to 2.3.4 and ending up with a hard brick and am getting a little scared about it. I do think most of the bricks have to do with unlocking the bootloader (at least that's what I understood from the forums).
I currently have a rooted Atrix running 4.1.83. I don't have any other mods installed and I haven't unlocked my bootloader. At this point I just want to update my phone to 4.5.91 and have it be rooted. I don't care about unlocking the bootloader at all.
Which method is best for me? Can I just install the OTA update thru the notification I'm getting on my phone? Or do I need to follow one of the complex processes listed on the forums here. Once again, I don't really need to unlock my bootloader. I just need to be rooted after I update.
Thanks in advance.
if you dont want the bootloader unlocked just OTA..

I was rooted with webtop mod on 1.83 (no Pudding), and there was no soft brick - the install wouldn't get past verification and never actually modified the system. Rebooting after the failure would bring me right back to the previous state.
I ended up flashing 1.83 SBF, upgrading OTA, rooting, then restoring user apps from Titanium.
YMMV.
Sent from my Atrix using Tapatalk.
It seems, so far anyway, that if you OTA you get a new bootloader that will hard brick you if you try to revert to a previous version. DO NOT flash any sbf files that have a locked bootloader if you OTA! If you start with 4_1.8.3, unlock your bl with pudding, and install a KennethPenn or similar non-OTA based 2.3.4, you keep the original bootloader and can flash back to Froyo.
I have not seen it spelled out this clearly, so I hope this helps someone looking to upgrade. I recommend sticking to non-OTA versions for now.
After OTA update, what happen???
I have my Atrix rooted, and have sideloading. After downloading update (OTA), & start to instal the update, this appear to my screen.
Is this what called "brick"? What should I do now? Flash it?

Could u be more specific, please? I try replace the batery (pull & put it back) & it run again, normaly, with the previous version.
Just want to know why, the file was corrupt or something. So I can prevent on my next try.
Sorry for my bad English. Thank anyway
Why on gods green earth would you ota update and eliminate the possibility of unlocking your bootloader? Just plain dumb if you ask me. Maybe at this point you see no purpose in it but I assure you that down the road you will wish you had not ran the ota. You don't have to worry about bricking your phone if the process is done correctly.

[.621] Update Breaks SBFing

Update 4.5.5.621 is live and breaks the ability to SBF back to an earlier version.
Only take the update if your willing to lose the ability to SBF. A fix is in the works but there is no ETA.
If you decide to update, there is no way to root, but OTA Root Keeper can be used to retain root.

I was on stock .605 with 1 click root then updated with the .621 OTA and after it was done I still had root. Verified by running Root Explorer and Titanium Backup.
Update: After reading a response to this post I decided to try and see if I could get root access with any new apps that were not installed prior to the .621 update and I have discovered that I cannot. So user trebuchet76 (the one that had questioned my results) had the right suspicion that I didn't really have root anymore but rather the apps I had installed prior to the .621 update that had root kept it after the update but new apps will not get root access.
I can't install the update

I'm running Liberty 3 ROM, and am quite happy with it. However, I've seen this SBF issue posted here and other places.
A few questions:
- can I update without flashing back to stock .605 (understanding I need to use OTA root keeper to keep root access)?
- once I do that, will I need to flash Liberty back on the phone again?
Basically, my DX was a total piece of crap until I switched off the Verizon stock .605 update. I would rather not lose the freedom I have now and be forced to stay with Blur and whatever other bloatware is installed by Verizon. In all likelihood I'll be upgrading in a few months anyway, and Liberty has made my phone not only tolerable, but fun again. I'd rather skip the update entirely than go back to the stock ROMs from Verizon.
Actually, my next phone choice will probably be based on how easy it is to root... ;-)

You can strip the red and black wires in a USB cable and place the exposed copper to their respective battery terminals while the battery is in the phone.
This will allow you to SBF the device.

Just thought I'd share this.............
So yesterday I figured I try to get root back and if anything it would brick the phone and there was an sbf to get it back. At least to .621 stock. Well I did the one click root ( droid3 i believe it was, with of course with droid 2 bootstrap ). So it put my phone back into clockworkmod and I was able to wipe everything including the dalvic cache and restored my phone to a backup I had from stock .605 that was rooted but no rom installed. It actually worked no brick, no nothing. So I ran the D2 bootstrap and went back into cwm and restored to another backup I had with liberty 2.0 running.....and that also worked. Now, I was surprised it actually worked so I went into about phone and confirmed! It did say .605. So I was ecstatic!
I was prepared to brick my phone (which wouldn't be the first or second time anyway) but glad it all worked out. Now im back to being rooted and running 4.5.605.
