If any of you are like me you like to play your own music while in your car well i went to wal-mart today and there was this thing called a fm transmitter it was 13 bucks so i gave it a try it works good i suggest you guys try it
Depends if you can actually find an empty frequency. They used to work good years ago but the fcc neutered the transmitters since the stations were complaining it was causing static on nearby cars. The real reason is they wanted the users to get upset and just listen to the radio stations instead.
Either buy a deck that has a line in (best option...I use this one) or buy a transmitter that actually hooks into the antenna port of your factory deck and it shuts off the antenna and pumps the transmission straight into your factory decks antenna port.

Hmm it works fine in georgia and 87.7 here is just straight static here so it wont interfere with no one
maybe it's just me but I thought FM transmitters were kinda a common knowledge thing.
Man I wish we could reverse engineer a way to pump it straight from our epics. That would be a hell of a phone feature. In the meantime I use a deck with bluetooth audio, the phone sees it as headphones though..

Some nokia's do. And the clarity depends on your area. You have to find a frequency that doesn't have a station on either side of it. DFW=99.9

Not true! I've owned about a dozen of these and this one is BY FAR the best. Well constructed, very strong signal, no fading, and it's got an extra outlet on top!

It's awesome. Seriously, get one.
No matter which one I use, I can't stand it. I hate any sort of static that comes over them, even if it's just a tiny bit. I love my stereo with a line in plus a USB port. If it had bluetooth I'd be happy

buy one on ebay from hong kong or something... the ones in the USA are really low power due to FCC regulations, foreign ones have a stronger signal.
I have the $13 one from Wal-Mart. It works great 99% of the time, which is good enough for me. In fact just took a 3 hour car ride with the family yesterday and there was only one time for about 10 seconds that we heard static. Don't expect cd quality sound, but it is acceptable.

No, yeah it's most definitely common knowledge. I used to have to use one about 6 years ago before I had AUX-in in my car. I am somewhat of an audiophile and absolutely cannot stand fm transmitters. They are a decent option for someone that doesn't want to spend much money and doesn't have a tape deck or something (I prefer tape deck inputs over fm transmitters).
They are cool in concept, but just don't quite do it for me. I had a relatively strong one back then and after I installed an AUX-in into my car, I used it to broadcast music to all the stereo receivers in my house during parties. That was about the greatest use for it, for me. I have a 3 story house with receivers on all levels, so I'd just hook it up to my lap top and tune all the radios into the broadcast frequency and bam! Instant personal radio for the whole house.
EDIT:

Mystery is absolutely right. It is a pretty easy process if you have some know-how with car stereos/electronics in general. But these are typically a bit more expensive than an fm transmitter from wal mart. In my opinion, the sound improvement is worth it though. Thank god most new cars come with AUX-in and/or USB inputs pre-installed now-a-day though. My '09 altima coupe came stock with one.

Hi there, I dont know if this will be no news to most people out there, but ppl, I just realised if you get the iphone ear phones with the mic, You can use it on the Hero for the following
- Receive Calls
- As Expected Listen to Music
- But You can actually squeeze the mic once to pause the song,
- Squeeze it 2 quick times and it will change the track
If you know of any other ways to use the earphone pls drop me a line but right now Illd go back to enjoying this two lil piece of hardware I have that make my life far much better.

As much as I hate apple, thanks for this! I'll be putting this tip to good use
I wonder what other brands are similarly compatible
I've been using my old iPhone earphones since I switched to the Pre last summer
Love them... great quality on the audio, too.
I think the factory iPod/iPhone head phones are garbage. The sound quality is horrible. I guess thats why they can afford to give them away at the moron bar.
My guess is though, if you have a set of good sony's that are iPhone compatible they would be Hero compatible as well.

Well I run a ic3rom 2.1 Rom(That just got release last night and is super sweet.)and mine is the Sprint Version so idk if you are on the same boat.
Maybe I'm just a music snob, but does anyone else think the Hero sounds like crap? If you don't you probably have never tried to listen to it over amplified speakers (like in the aux jack in a car). Total crappola Damn shame too, there was great potential for awesomeness.
Yeah I noticed that it doesn't sound all that great as well. espically with car speakers

i have a pair of samsung earphones that work as playback and mic during calls, the mute button even works.
is it wierd my g1 soubded better over my car speakers, and that i had to get the usb to headphone jack adapter. ha!
I know the ones that come with the pre and the moment work as well. And yes the Hero seems to be eq'd very strange. Way to much mids and bass in the car makes things a tad muddy.

are you streaming music to a HU with a DAC, or playing on some BT headphones? Seems like if you stick to the smaller speakers it sounds acceptable. That may explain the weird EQ settings, trying to overcome the poor quality earbuds most people like to use.
So last night my car was broken into and they trashed my alpine deck and stole my ipod. So today while shopping for a new stereo for my car I tried finding something that would work well with my HTC Hero. I was hoping for something that would bluetooth connect to my phone and access the music on my sim card. Does anyone have a suggestion on this?

I'm on a Pioneer DEX-P99RS Ipod/anything USB.
Works well for me. Just plug in USB and mount it like you do a PC. reads all the tracks and ID3 tag info for you.
Not as fancy as bluetooth, but it works. This head unit maybe a bit high for most people. This was my first Pioneer, I was always an Alpine guy until now. I will never buy another Alpine after hearing this thing.

Depends on the adapter I think. Pioneer offers 2 that will connect through Ibus. I want to say it's just Music on mine, and the other actually has a Mic you can run...I'm in it strictly for the boom and to piss off the cops
I have an "aux in" jack in the console of my car. I just use a male-to-male audio cable. Pandora comes in very handy on long car trips.
oh no. K! Don't go down that road! I'm not saying you don't need a stereo that will hit 130db, but that should be the third or forth thing you worry about! First you gotta take care of your hub caps...are they spinnin' man? ARE THEY SPINNIN?
OP, I had a pretty decent deck that did both voice and music over bluetooth...had a pretty decent little touchscreen on it, too...I'll try to remember what it was and get back to you.

I haven't tried since updating to a 2.1 ROM, but with the stock 1.5 I had lag issues running bluetooth audio to my stereo Moto headset. Mostly when using the radio at the same time, like pandora or if it decided to do a sync. I have an older Pioneer with a 3.5mm headphone hooked up, works amazing for me. Would be interested in finding out if the bluetooth works flawless.
Thinking of getting this one it says it does bluetooth audio streaming

radios dont support ad2p at least i have yet to find one so u cant stream audio over bluetooth but u can still do 3.5 or usb
Well right here under the General Features it says A2DP support and says yes
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/2008_Car_Entertainment/KDC-X994
in my experience kenwood got very fuzzy at high frequencies.
im hugeee into a2dp and the BEST quality chip is sony.
so ANY sony xplod MEX-BT series are amazingg.
i used to hate sony xplod until i tried the bt audio. i have the low end one i got for like 80 bucks. it only has an aux jack and bt but you cant tell a difference in aux and bt.
(im an audiophile too)
i tried kenwood and quality was lost badly for me. Dual brand is by far the worst bt quality on earth. pioneers were ok but low fidelity with a2dp.
anyways hopes that helps.

Since I drive a jeep with out a top most of the time I bought a brand from wal-mart called "Dual". I haven't ever had much luck with cheapy stereos but this one is pretty good. It does bluetooth, usb, 3.5mm, Ipod control, hd radio. All for 140 bucks, which hurts a lot less than 500 when someone else decides they need your stereo more than you do.

Just bought this myself on eBay for $219 free shipping. Totally worth it, I was able to get rid of my AudioControl EQL equalizer because the sound quality was just that good. I'm having some issues getting 2.1 to remember the pairing, but other than that I can totally recommend the x994 on the merits.

Gotta say I picked up the dual at wally world for like 100. The bluetooth is pretty decent as far as the sound reception goes. Only gripe I have with it is when I would get a call the bluetooth wouldn't pick up but if I would call out then it would. That was before I got 2.1 on my hero. The music plays smoothly though. No connection issues at all either. Plus they are fairly cheap to be had at least if your concerned about that.
Dunno if this was suggested, but my boyfriend got the Sony MEX-BT2800 and I connect my phone to it with little issues. Audio works very nicely, as well as calls, though the built in mic can throw some people off but make sure to switch it from the default low sensitivity to high sensitivity to pick up your voice better (picks up engine noise more but no worse than talking on my BT headset). I really need to get this for my car heh.
I'm not a big sony person but thanks for the information. I'm heading out tonight to go check out and pick up a new unit. What ever I get I will come back and give an update on what I think of it and how it works with my Hero.
Thanks

indoors but i live within 20 miles of where the stations are broadcasing. i have them securely plugged in and all i get is static
I tried for a while also to get FM. Finally with a 4th set of headphones i was able to tune in a few stations manually. The scan still doesn't find anything. I stretch the cord out to get best reception and try not holding the EVO - yeah I got better reception on some stations if I had EVO and the headphones stretched out on a table. Color me disappointed in the FM as any cheap walkman seems to work better, though I didn't really expect to use it much anyway.
The idea to use the headphone's wires makes me wonder if old cheap headphones would work better (I'm curious if the newer headphone wires are shielded better and if that would make it harder to pick up signal)

...Having bluetooth work like it should! I just came from a Mytouch 3G after a year to the Vibrant. The BT on the MT3G was utter garbage! I listen to podcasts all day while at work with my A2DP bluetooth and I couldn't set the phone down on my desk and walk 10 feet across the office without it choking, hiccuping or dropping my connection. At first I thought it was the earpiece so I returned the Jawbone Icon and bought the Blue Ant T-1. Same damn problem! I would walk with the phone in my hand and with every swing of my arm the sound would cut out. I practically had to hold the phone in the hand closest to the earpiece! My 5 year old Moto flip phone had better BT performance than the MT3G did. So once I got the Vibrant the first thing I did was try out the BT performance. Man, what a relief! They put a good radio in there! Now I can leave my phone in one room of the house, go downstairs and not have a single dropped connection or sound hiccup while playing audio.
Thanks Samsung!
The Bluetooth is utterly broken on my devices. It sucks in my car (5+ phone NEVER an issue). Glad yours is working, I am hoping moving to Froyo moving spec to 3.0 will resolve this. Bluetooth is my only complaint about the Vibrant.
While one rejoices, the other complains. Seriously I am starting to think Samsung customized each individual phone for purchase. At least that is what it seems like on these forums with all the conflicting reports.

I use napster, bluetoothed to my truck stereo most all of the time. I never drop audio, and I am sure signal drops to 1 bar in places.
For me that best thing is the Super AMOLED screen, many other phones had me thinking of selling vibrant but at the end is the screen I just can't give up. It's like once you see it you will never go back to any other crabs. The best screen ever.

Coming from a Touch Pro 2 and an iPhone 3G I like the speed of the Vibrant, the display and am happy with the availability of apps for it. Rooted with the Mobile AP app installed is the frosting on my tasty cake!
I can live with GPS glitches (it's not perfect but it does get me from place to place), shorter battery life etc... The Vibrant isn't perfect but it does what I need it to do without complaining that I'm asking too much from it most of the time

if you choose to void your warranty and negate any possible future support (as if you'd get any anyway)
disclaimer: i am not against voiding my warranty (usually happens the day i get a phone), but this should be added for noobs.
Just got a Sony sbh20 stereo bluetooth headset (Review) And its great plays my music from my phone wirelessly, makes calls etc. It has 3.5 mm output so it can be hooked up to any speakers with 3.5mm jack.
However being a gutarist and an xda forum member im just not happy with what it can do out of the box.
Is it possible to turn the 3.5mm output into an input so i can use this for wireless guitar playing, perhaps with it paired to my phone which would then be hooked up to my speakers.
Basically i want a bluetooth guitar.
Any ideas or comments on how this may be achieved or if this is even possible.
Another concept that may work would be to use my phone itself as an amp transmitting via bluetooth. Probobly easier to impliment. Any ideas if this exists
No it is not possible, and it's also completely and utterly pointless, since you can buy Bluetooth transmitters for next to nothing more or less anywhere

Far from pointless. It is a mod that involves doing something cool. Just because some companies make a product that can do what the OP is looking to do and for a cheap price does not mean that the OP should not try. If we all just purchased stuff that just works then we would have a world with a bunch of idiots that know nothing. And just wants to be solely ammused via You tube videos of dumb garbage. Oh wait, that is the vast majority of this worlds population. This is an Android forum where people do things the hard way so that they can just know.
I could have purchased a great PC case for not to much money. And v en ry little time spent earning said money. But I decided to mod a MAC G5 case. Pointless? No, far from it. This is truly my computer. Here are some pictures.
And how about my cars factory radio? Sure I could have installed a low level converter. Or installed an aftermarket head unit. No, I found the low levels signal circuits and installed RCA connectors on the back of my factory deck.
Sounds like this is how the OP wants to roll.
So OP roll on. Ill look into the setup you are looking to mod and let you know if it can be done and how easily it can be accomplished.
Edit. Yes, it can be done. You will have to mod the input output circuit at the headphone jacknor somewhere on the board. I will say this. Be extremely patient and use a very very good magnifying glass. Or your phone when soldering. And lots of light. What I did was use an app called overlays and created an overlay that put a flashlight widget whennI opened my camera app. This allowed me to permanently activate the flash LED and use the camera as a microscope when soldering my LG tones to act as an incar bluetooth adapter. Sadly though I broke the setup. But, I just may get what you have there and use that in my car next. Though only of it allows for hi definition audio throughput. Any way. Good luck and take pictures if you go through with it.
And one more thing. Like you stated. You could mod a headset to connect to your guitar and then stream the sound from your phone to the Bluetooth headset that is connected to your amp/head.

Thanks for getting back to me these bluetooth units are going pretty cheap in vodafone stores in ireland right now (25 euro where evreywhere else including sonys website has them for 50) so i might puick up another one to mod, not much experience with soldering anything more complicated than audio cables but it will be a challenge, also propss on the g5 case its definately one of the best designed PC cases with the new mac pros coming out there could be a fresh influx of these second hand soon
