If you read rule twelve closely, it says if someone doesn't ask you about using their work, you can first contact them and if they don't take it down, then they get banned.
Ok, now to the reason marcusant is suspended. It clearly states that if the original dev contacts the kanger and requests it be taken down, and the kanger does right after, then the kanger can't get suspended because they broke no rules. Only if the kanger doesn't remove it after being contacted, can they be banned. As you can see, marcusant removed the entire op after being notified by Roderick. If anyone is to be suspended it would be noobnl and Roderick because it states that you need to discuss in private messages, NOT in public forum.
Marcusant took it down right when he got contacted. He also gave full credit to his sources. I request that a moderator apologizes and lifts the suspension.

I hate to say this but I think your facts are wrong. The Bonsai situation had nothing to do with permission. It had to do with using early access pieces and parts of what xda considers donationware. The rules are pretty clear on that. Whether I agree with it or not that's why it was taken down. It had nothing to do with not having permission.
As far as the other situation goes with Roderick and Noobnl I'm not privy to the behind the scenes info on that like I was on the previous drama, so I can't really comment. However, if you take someones work as blatantly as he did without crediting the source or asking permission, if that's what happened, there are consequences. That's pretty straight forward. Whether or not it was handled appropriately is a whole other matter. His suspension probably has to do more with frequency of violations.
When you post something inflammatory like this, without having the facts straight it really invalidates the entire thread. You will never get an apology from the mods and honestly the request is pretty silly. I admire your conviction but I wouldn't hold your breath... It's never gonna happen....

I believe the intention is to force bthomas (if this is true, I don't know enough to have any kind of opinion on this) to openly apologize and/or acknowledge the "borrowed" code.
actually i have sent him a pm, as for irc i am unaware of a teamviper irc room and as i idle in both epic chatrooms constantly i have yet to see bthomas in either of them.
indeed had he asked or simply forked the code (as it is all on github ) and fixed it then no issues the reason why this code wasnt publicly posted in a rom or whatever is because in its current state.. it doesnt work, it polls the cpu but it does it unevenly and actually causes the cpu % to spike thus draining more battery...
as i dont have an epic anymore i havent felt the drive to sit down and finish it (various things like life, college, my pregnant gf) have kept me busy for quite a bit.

Surely the google+ threads are more important than this useless thread. Report the threads and mods will take care of them if they consider them inappropriate. Starting up a new useless thread ain't much help
We make an effort to condense them down to one main thread in off topic.
That said, we can't be everywhere at once, send the relevant forum moderator a PM and they will deal with the situation accordingly.
Theres also the case that people may be wishing to create a specific circle for owners of a certain device, this would be difficult if every thread was merged.

Well its definitely not the case in most of them, however I have left a couple in sections I moderate due to the fact that they were started with that intention.
Should they turn into an endless invite whoring add4add fest then they will close.

The only "tricks" I know of are by trying to get invited by someone posting something to you, and there's a script in the off-topic forum that retries your invitation URL every 5 seconds. I left that going for over 24hrs and it didn't get in.
I've pretty much given up now. I'll definitely be all over it when I do get in, but I'm not putting my life on hold and waiting for it.

I think some of the issues are that G+ comes up while talking on the forum. Then other are desperate to get an invite. I am guilty of posting in a few of them. But your right. Unless the thread is to create a circle it should be in off topic.

Folks - Samsung is giving Galaxy Indulge users the hard shaft, and in the process, violating the GPL. They have been extremely unresponsive, and it's high time they're brought public. The Galaxy Indulge is the Epic's little cousin on MetroPCS.

I'm not sure about that, but I sent email to the FSF and the Software Freedom Conservancy (on the recommendation of Randy T.).
since K0nane's explanation post mentions a broken netfilter, Harald Welte at http://gpl-violations.org/ sholuld be interested.
He has taken many companies to court for GPL violations of netfilter code and won. by June 2006, he had finished and won over 100 cases.

I'm serious but not in the way you think. I whole heartedly believe censorship is wrong. However we are kind of at the mercy of whomever owns the board we are posting on. I'm all for free speech as well as tolerance. But you can only have that between individuals on a personal neutral level. You can say anything you feel and it wont offend me. The moderators on the forum in charge of censoring are a different matter. If that makes sense.

They can't sell ads to you if your on Google+, so they don't want anyone advertising it on their site. Its kind of incredible on Facebooks part. As if banning Google+ posts will make us all forget about it. Horrible PR decision on FBs part. But I'm also a fan of chaos and mutiny. So my view may or may not be reliable.

I begged The_Scotsman for an Off-Topic subforum for the Epic but was told no other device has that and they were not going to start a precedent here. There is one general off-topic thread for Android and that's it. So we are stuck with off-topic posts in General. Shouldn't prevent people from helping out though.

It takes requests to head moderators to have a new forum made. There is a main off-topic forum here

But I don't think you will get the exposure this needs. It is more troublesome when 10 people make new threads on "How to stop OTA notifications" rather than threads like this but that doesn't seem to irritate the same people as a single thread like this does.
Thanks for informing us of this terrible situation. Hopefully XDA as a whole can have a bigger impact on this little girl and her family, than we will ever know!

Don't post them in the first place is the easy answer. Call me crazy but when I come to the Epic General section I expect to read about general epic topics not some vote for me threads, help me with my family issues I created, or donate to me, etc. All the nonsense just drives folks away.

No kidding! I understand getting frustrated by an off topic post from time to time, but when it is something like this, deal with it. XDA is supposed to be a community. I don't know about you, but in my "communities" we help others when we can. Like the Milkman said, the title was very clear. If the topic is of no interest to you, keep it moving.

I get where this guy comes from, he has a point. Then again, just like with EVERY other friggin post that the resident forum police go into to talk their crap... if you don't like it, don't fking click it! Don't read it! Most of all, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all!
Its not hard.
Man That sucks if I had a job I would donate. But for the guy who thinks there needs to be a different spot for this thread then contact the admin of the forum and ask for an entire Subforum for Charities.
