I see on a norwegian Huawei forum that alot of people have problems with the gps. it wont lock in on the satellites. Some of them have tried B133/135/136 and B160 ROM and with still no luck getting it to lock on. Some of them seems to claim that the problem goes away using GPS Test app for locking the satellites , and after that the gps works. I myself am using stockwells B160, and have no problem with it.
So. Is this a hardware related problem? or a software?
Due to the fact GPS test app can lock on, its most likely software. Make sure Wireless networks and quick gps are on in Location settings. Otherwise it takes an extremely long time to lock on and seems as though its not working.
My GPS actually malfunctioned with stockwells B160 ROM yesterday, but I re-installed the ROM and it worked. Seems to be software!
Thank you so much for responding, hoping more people will share their experience with this issue And maybe this will be looked upon for newer updates of ROMs. Have suggested the "fixes" from you guys on the norwegian forum. Gonna report back if it worked out for them.

Hello people. Tried to search the forum for this but nothing came up. I have a swedish Xperia and have flashed it a couple of times with different roms but have now returned to stock spl and what I think is the original rom.
Didnt have problems with the GPS in the beginning and it started causing problems when I started flashing, working now and then. Now I have no function what so ever.
Anyone got an idea?
Is it possible to "update" the phone wia the sony ericsson update utility to the original rom, my roms doesnt feel so original, dont even have a calculator.
My GPS doesnt seem to work very well either.. Even with newly downloaded GPS Satellite info, it cant seem to find a lock :\

That's what Im saying. Have you been flashing yours or is it straight from the box?
Sticky a GPS thread?
I propose that one of these GPS problem threads be made sticky since we cannot simply search "GPS" here and the GPS problems seem to be accumulating.
With that said, I would have to say that my GPS performance is pretty terrible. At first, it felt like doing the QuickGPS thing and/or deleting the xtra.bin file helped. For the most part, though, getting a lock has proven quite sporadic. What should the expectation here be? Should I expect the GPS to work reliably indoors? What about if I am near a window? Why would it work in some buildings near a window and not in others?
My personal opinion is that the GPS should work within 15-20 feet of a window. Using Chartcross GPS Test, even when the GPS is locked, I am getting mostly yellow bars. I am not exactly sure what a good reading looks like on Chartcross, but there appears to be a 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% bar. Maybe the 25% bar is 100%? In any event, I rarely have a satellite that is getting above what I suspect to be 30%.
Is there a thread somewhere that details what the various fields mean and/or should read in Chartcross or a similar utility? I am coming up on my 30 days to return the phone, so if someone thinks that my device may be defective please speak up!
Thanks as always XDA-ers!
Hello everyone, i've my SG3 flashed with Gsam101 ultraclean SPF rom + modified JPB kernel + lagfix v2!
I've solved the GPS slowness using the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10385614&postcount=43
The main issue is that opening googlemaps already slows down the phone (cause it's kind of heavy application!) then with this software glitch it becomes even more slow... it's a sort of 3310 with froyo on it! :-(
I've kind of few applications installed btw and NO services started at boot, so i would exclude the cause of 3rd party applications causing this...
Did you actually fix the unresponsiveness? Or just the GPS fix time? I've managed to get the GPS fix to work, but the phone becomes very slow, even after the GPS is turned off.
exactly my problem, the gps fix with the method posted before is really fast!!
The phone becomes slow though, as you said :S
Ok I think I've found the problem. The stock GPS I5800XXJPF actually works really well. With a fresh install, my GPS would lock on for the first time within 20 seconds or so, and the phone would work fine. However, after reinstalling all my stuff with Titanium, the GPS went back to being very slow, and the phone would remain slow (laggy) until reboot.
So... I checked my GPS settings and I had 'Use sensor aiding' checked. Unchecked it, reboot and voila! No GPS problems. I still use GPS toolkit to make the first fix, but that is the only thing different from stock. GPS works great now and phone runs at full speed.
Does this make a difference for you guys?
You're my new hero...this "fix" works and gpsfix it's still fast and stable!

disabled "sensor aiding" on Galaxy-3 i5800
Hi,
I was planning to make a new thread on the lagging behaviour of the galaxy-3 i-5800 when i found this thread.
problem I had for long time :
My phone went to 100% cpu after "closing/ending" an application which uses gps, like g-maps,copilot,lattitide etc. It took me many weeks to pinpoint the problem, when it happened. Reason it took so long is that i found by accident, the 'remedy' , which is switching off the display and switch it on again. This interfered with the root-cause analysis , because when the screen went out automatically, the problem dissappeared :-S
"Finally" yesterday i found the root-cause of the lag.
It was "sensor aiding" in location and security setting. After disabling this setting, the lag problem is gone.
In dutch the setting is called "sensorondersteuning", which is located under "locatie en beveiliging".
So I want to spread the word to many galaxy-3 owners (i-5800/5801) to NOT use this feature (even not in the lates JPM firmware).
From yesterday, I'm a happy galaxy-3 owner again
enjoy it.
its JPF not SPF and its kinda stock like, many stock apps are removed, social hub etc. I dont think any are added, besides superuser since i suspect its prerooted
Now we have so many great Android ROMs for HD2. However, I have yet failed to find a ROM that has GPS working completely. Some RoM has GPS locking issue, other locks but freeze so many times. lets face it, we are driving, we are on the road, and we are lost, and the next thing you want is your GPS stop working on you in the middle, taking the phone out of the case, and pulling the batteries, and waiting for it to boot up again, probably by then most of us has left our destination about 10 miles away.
So in this thread, I want everyone to list the ROM that has the GPS working completely.
Thanks,
move to question forum. AGPS is not working yet, thats why there is the GPS issue

I have never had GPS issues with any of the Android ROMs I have used. Occasionally when using IGO8 I have had the phone reboot but this was only minor. See my sig for the ROM I am currently using without a problem. If you still experience issues then I suggest you try removing any additional programs you installed as they may be causing conflicts. You don't say what navigation program you use as this could also be a problem. In addition to using IGO for car navigation, I also use MM Tracker for hill walking so I always make sure that I fully test GPS on any build I use as I could end up lost on a mountain!
Try Typhoon ROM with the GPS fix .. without GPS fix it takes as long as 10 minutes but with the fix its as fast 15-30 second .. I've been using for over a month and haven't had any problem. Battery and Bluetooth is unbelievable. And I do agree that at this point if it freezes up its probably some apps that cause the problem .. not the ROM itself. G'luck!

Is anyone else having issues with GPS post nodo or mango? I never had problems before and now I can't get a lock. It is obnoxious.

Works fine here, Mango on 1.3 got it through update, normally.
Mango 1.3, no issue on my GPS. It lock fast. Even indoor, as long as it's not a tall building.
Same issues here. Mine actually stopped working after installing the Mango developer release and has never returned to normal.
Mine is definitely screwed. When I went to Mango beta, I could never get a lock. In order to make sure I hadn't screwed anything up, I flashed back to the original ROM, then went through all the updates. Since then, it's been very intermittent, with a very low rate of success. I can go 10 minutes without a lock with a clear sky, then get a lock, and have it work for a few minutes, then lose it again. This is with both the Garmin app as well as the built-in Maps app.
Just wondering how many of you peoples have high fidelity position app installed. If you don't have it installed you might want to download it from the marketplace and install; it does cut down gps lock times by being assisted with GLONASS satellite positioning (Russias worldwide GPS).
New X Compact, and out of the box has had a GPS problem. It came loaded with Nougat, and I updated ota each version one-by-one to the latest Oreo 118, then unlocked bl, and flashed Sailfish, and the problem is the same on all.
What it is, is that the GPS signal will get a fix on-and-off after every few minutes, but won't hold steady. Using SatStat app on Android, I saw that the effect was the same with GPS and with network location.
Using a GPS info app, I see that when there is a fix, I get a read on latitude and longitude and altitude, but never anything for speed or direction. Seems like the fix is so brief that there is not a chance to measure it.
It seems obviously a hardware issue, being consistent over many software states, but the hardware is obviously working, so not sure... I would wonder if it was an issue with the carrier, but I used the same sim with the same account on my previous phone and it was fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks
