Hey guys,
I'm not quite sure if this section is the correct one to post such a topic. If it's not, just move it
I currently got two HTC Magic 32B devices on my hands.
Both got:
hboot-1.33.0013d
radio-2.22.27.08
595MHz for stable use
Dithering and JIT OFF
So everyone is talking about "which rom is faster?!" and there are many different opinions out there. Besides the features, my tests will ONLY be about speed.
I thought I will first do a Quadrant Bench and then do some app startup-time tests.
The first ROM battle will be COS-DS vs. GingerYoshi:
If you have any suggestions about how to test the speed furthermore to get the most appropriate results, feel free to post them!
Greetings,
VERGiL
hi I have forgotten how to flash could you point me or tell me how to our flash the new spl and radio it's been over a year since I've done that with cyn 6 stable no fix green tent when I use rom manager my phone just bootloops.
so how bout the result dude?

As I already said in the video, the GingerYoshi is a little faster/more responsive so I'd recommend it.

I'm not really familiar with all those new MTD Recovery Partition Mods and to be honest: As long as I don't need them, I won't flash them.
But I will test the ezGingerbread and some CM7 ROMs.

Senselx-tdv doesn't need cMTD...
Good initiative, it was about time someone did something like that.
I got 374 on my GY 1.2 old radio + ezGb 1.4 config ... I'm trying COS-DS + ezGb 1.4 now, and fastest I've reached is 356 ... both at 352Mhz min and 576Mhz max. JIT on, no CC, VM 24Mb and asset purging enabled.
GY is LOTTA more responsive, but I've been having a few reboots and SD corruption, so I blame the SD - or - the ROM, so I'm trying COS-DS for a change.

You're already OC'd to 691mhz if you are running CM6.1.

As far as I know, CM 6.1 already has an OC'd kernel.
If you want a different one thats better, stable, all around amazing go HERE and download Decad3nce's stable kernel (or whatever suits your needs) and flash it <--- I would do this
If you download Deca's mau5 themed rom or AOSP they both are OC'd with Deca's kernel.
Or you can get SetCPU from the Marketplace (or here) and it will overclock you're current kernal. It has different settings for power or performance. I didn't notice much of a difference and it gave me a couple problems on the power saving mode.

All you do is flash it from recovery, as the instructions say.
is there a difference in performance/efficiency between CM 6.1+setCPU to overclock to 768mhz vs. using CM 6.1 with deca's modded 768mhz kernel?

AFAIK, the stock cm kernel will not oc to 768. That may have changed, but IMHO, deca's kernels are better. He's tweaked them to run smoother and more efficiently. Also, I would suggest the batt tweak instead of setcpu.

Can anyone please post the difference between Kyrillos 3.0 and Indroid 3.0???
I don't want to know which one is better as a matter of fact that personal opinions vary by personal needs.
Just want to know the key/major differences in both.

Kyrillos looks like Gingerbread.
InDroid looks like Honeycomb.
What are the difference??
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=android+gingerbread+theme
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=android+honeycomb+theme
well another major difference is the the kernel where in indroid there is no pre given overclocked kernel which you have to flash later after flashing it
Kyrillos one has already inbuilt that.... and its JIT enabledd I suppose
Pretty much the same ...
Kyrillos is slightly faster from what i noticed ...
But isn't the quadrant score for indroid a little higher?

hey can anyone tell me how to install apps on memory card????plz my internal memory is very low...
Hi there, HTC Magic user here.
I've gone back to stock ROMs for a bit but lately I've been wanting to go back to a rooted phone.
My previous experience with Cyanogenmod 5 and 6 has been terrible, the phone ran slow and even completely stock there would be either launcher restarts after running even the messaging app or app force closes if the launcher was kept in memory. The only ROM's that worked well were 1.6 based ones but of the three that most people use, they all have problems which make them difficult to use in the long run.
tl;dr What ROM's are you using with your 32B Magic and what optimisations do you do to stop lag and memory overflows happening?
Ezgingerbread (link in my sig) is what I usually use. Its pretty light and fast.
If you want as many cm features as possible while still having some speed try cos-ds.
If you really like cm features, there's greenromproject cm7 or anotger cm7 rom who's name I can't remember. I haven't used those yet so I can't say anything about speed there.
And these are all gingerbread roms. Idk what to suggest for other versions.. I got into android right before cm6.1

Nope. There are gingerbread roms for every radio. If you are talking about the 2708+ radio then I would recommended it for the extra ram
I'm currently running Ginger Yoshi 1.2 and love it. I've used CM 5.0.8, CM6, Ginger Yoshi 1.1 and now 1.2. All have worked great on my phone. The one thing for me is that I wipe everything...everytime. To include my SD card manually. I save my files on my computer and put them back after I load up the ROM.

If your phone is rooted you could always get Rom Manager Free from the Market and get the rom of your choice. I use CyanogenMod-6.0.0-DS and the phone runs great. It's actually the only ROM my phone has been able to handle fully with no issues. OS 2.2 is the highest I would put on the MT3G. I've tried Yoshi's, EzTerry, Greenrom, etc.. and all either had issues or just wouldn't work.
Search in this forum, RC Magic V7, SFM 1.2 sense 2.1 (Its great recomended), or clean magic (Fast). All whit htc sense! I tested all and work greats!

I've tried biffmod, gingeryoshi and few others before them, unfortunately each left me wanting to try another rom. Now I'm on froyobylaszlo I simply don't have that yearning for another rom anymore, and I suppose that says it all. I think I made a couple of tweaks but nothing major(can't remember though!) and it runs great, very smooth and fast.
Only issue I have is running speedtest, where it reboots occasionally.

I use right now GingerBread (Quadrant: 890-980)

OK, thanks!
have you tried Blue Ginger v5 ?
I actually love it, but am not very experienced and have no idea what Quadrant is.

just installed that Quadrant, standard edition
and it gives my gen 2 blade with blue ginger only 760 !
Blue Ginger perhaps no use to you then, but I love it nonetheless.

Man with CM7 you get a new nightly every night! So every time someone suggests you and you reply 'I try Nxxx, I try Nxxx' - there is no way out!
Also, Quadrant scores are rubbish, pointless and baseless! I won't go by that.
None of the Gen2 2.2 will give you a better score than CM7 or any other gingerbread based ROMs.
When you enable stagefright, overclock etc - you might get closer but then you will lose battery WAY more quicker! - so not good enough for daily use.
If you are fussy about Quadrant scores - CM7 is your best bet.
If you are fussy about 'everything must be stable' - then GSFB19 or SSRL5 or Flb Froyo R12 are your best bets. GSFB19 is 2.3.4 and other two are 2.2
If you are not fussy about having fast and smooth phone - then GSFB20.
I know you might say, "Now I use CM7 N162"

the nightly ROMs: yes every night/day newer!
but so what, if the nightly is working more than the normal 7.1 RC then I use nightly older or never!
I wait when they make 7.1 stable or 7.1 RC then I use it!
Froyo 2.2: Quadrant sucks + overlock is not nice for froyo, difficult to ROOT, some ROMs can't to be ROOTED, Froyo stragefright: not faster!
So I use CM or GB ROMs which works fine!
I think CM stable releases only mean the CM specific are stable, not the entire build.
Which Froyo ROM's are hard to root/can't be rooted?
Stagefright was disabled as it was giving ridiculously high quadrant scores IIRC and was subsequently determined broken. The main advantage of enabling it on Froyo was to play Gameloft games without the broken textures, probably not to improve overall speed.

The CM Nightly's are not Stable! bur I use that ROM which works much better than other stable!
in nightly (newest) only wifi and other fixes nothing really much else..?
Froyo: I hate froyo because I think that froyo is not finished version..? Many froyo ROMs have too much problems which is not nice!
All Froyo ROMs Which I used (Stock) them are so hard to ROOT! need to add missing root files and other files to get ROOT to work fine even with z4root!
in Froyo Stock ROMs the superuser not work fine!
stable and other Froyo versions: maybe them have good ROOT files so then works normally!
and froyo have too bad quadrant, many games lagging, easily slowing down, many froyo ROMs don't have good apps2sd files to get files to SD card!
if the stragefright is enabled in froyo then: quadrant is something 500-800 P on Blade!
And gingerBread: stragefright not enabled almost same points 500-800 and some can get more than 900 and with enables stragefright: quadrant points are: 900-1480..? I got some day more than 1430 P on CM nightly (with stragefright..)
So I use CM nightly when there is newer Nightly where is better files!
P.S. If I flash to newer CM nightly then Do I need to do wipe and all if the newer don't have new apps?
I don't want to download all apps and games again to my Blade... :/
SORRY IF I WROTE TOO MUCH!
I need to go school so I don't have time to check this text.. -.-
I find N161+ (unofficial nightly), find it on MoDaCo very stable, battery life is also good. You may want to give it a go. It has a proximity sensor calibration app for those who have problems with it e.g. Me and a few other people.
When you update to a newer nightly then just wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache from ClockworkMod recovery, all your data/apps will remain.

Oh and one last thing are there many Sense 2.1 ROMS, iknow virtous and InsertCoin.
Some other 2.1 ROMS
eVil has 2 mytouch ROMS - one is a slide the other is not
bsbokc has a mytouch rom (myVision 2.3.4)
virtuous had 1.0.2 before the 2.0
siulmagic has paradox (2.1 + 3.0 widgets like insertcoin)
suilmagic has Synergy (2.1 + 3.0)
I think there was a leedroid that was 2.1 but I could be wrong.
There is an archive out there of many of the ROMS @ http://xda.niksie.nl/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&view=viewcategory&catid=6&Itemid=1, I have nothing to do with it, but many thanks to Niksie

Oh one more question, do i need to install SetCPU or OC'd kernels are already pre-configured to mange cpu frequencies and voltages? or maybe there is a file to modifiy or customize?
Most 2.1 Rom's will use setcpu as the other oc's came out more on the 3.0 sense roms. Also check in the /etc for a virtuous directory, if there you can edit the files there to increase the clocks as well, but you will need to know what values to use as well.
