Am I unlocked after rooting? - G2 and Desire Z General

Since the search function is [email protected] on the xda app I'm just gunna make a thread for this and hope there isn't already one
So I rooted using the visionary/gfree method. Is my phone unlocked for other sim cards, or is there another step that needs to be taken?
Sent from my 'SilverBullet' HTCDesireZ running CM7

If you followed the gfree process as described in the wiki, you're unlocked

I agree about the search its absolute garbage through and through.

[Q] PD15IMG.ZIP effect on true perma root?!

Hi all,
I did the True PermaRoot by following the instructions on this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
If I was to use PD15IMG.ZIP to restore my phone, how would it affect the true perma root and the sim unlock?!
Would the phone remain permarooted and unlocked?!

You do loose root but the gfree is still there along with sim unlock as well as eng bootloader.
There is a link in the Rom bible that does it all in one cick

Thank you, I tried finding what you had mentioned, but no luck. Could you please post the link and maybe explain how I would go about obtaining root again...

No worries man... unroot with this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924923
Then reroot here

Thank you!
So if I got it right, I would first unroot and reverse the process of true perma root then use the pd15img.zip to revert to stock then reroot using same procedure, right?
But originally I wanted to know what would happen if I was to go straight to the pd15img.zip and if that would leave the root and unlock and s-off intact?

Rooting.

Thinking of unrooting my phone and rerooting it. Witch way should I do tjis with, gfree or the vishonary and terminal way?
Sent from my WhiteHTCMyTouch4G using XDA Premium App
That depends, if i was you i would check to see which emmc chip you have as there is two of them and search which one is the good one,and if you have the good one go gfree if you need the sim unlock if not stick to the visonary. Just my two pennies. I rooted with gfree and havent had any problem..
Well im thinking of doing this because when I did it the first time I used vishonary and it screwed my phone up and got stuck on mytouch screen (aka bootloop). I used theunlckr.com vishonary way with my g2 didnt work so I looked through the comments and found an xda thread and did it that way. Did the same on mytouch and screwes it up. Had to pay 50 bucks to fix it

gfree is VERY simple and has not been linked to the dying eMMC chip issues. That has been shown to be a hardware issue. i have the "bad" chip and have used gfree 3 times and my phone is still fine.

Well, actually gfree is linked to bad eMMCs, but it is not the cause. It seems that a phone with the bad eMMC can only be rooted with gfree (not the Visionary/root.sh method).

Whichever works for you.
If you're already rooted - no reason to unroot, unless your phone stopped functioning.

gfree works great, but the advantage to the Visionary method is you automatically end up with the engineering bootloader. The gfree method requires an extra series of steps to do that.

It will still say S-OFF, if rooted with gfree, whatever you do - because it turns off the security flag for real. Your feelings don't have anything to do with the fact that your phone is S-OFF now, and by unrooting it you won't accomplish anything - but judging by the amount of threads you've opened by now, it'll cost XDA a lot of server space .

No root for the OTA yet, but downloading to 2.2.1 and rooting that will net you the same result as rooting the update. Are you just worried about downgrading? I think i have seen you ask this before.
I just got a device with the ota. I just don't know how to do it there's no guides.

I also can confirm that the downgrade works. Just make sure you download the usb drivers for the MT4G and read about ADB it's very easy if you follow the instructions.
I was concerned about bricking my phone also but it does work.
Good Luck.

[Q] my Mytouch just wont root!

i tryed everything to root my mytouch 4g i used every visionary i can find still nothing

USB debugging is checked?
Visionary gives you temporary root access that does not survive a reboot. You will need to use the gfree method to unlock the bootloader and then run permanent root with Visionary.
What steps have you taken?

Pretty much sums it up. I tried temp rooting then perm rooting with VISIONary+ r14, but it didn't work, so don't try that. ./gfree is the way to go. Very simple, straightforward, and easy!
And how do I use that you got any links that would help

There's no way in the world gfree rooting method is simpler and more straightforward than visionary, root.sh method.
Visionary, root.sh method takes 3 files and one app to root and that's it. Everything can be done from the device. Takes me 5 minutes tops.

You are confused and talking out your ass. First, I was never arguing with anybody. If anybody is arguing, is you. Second, I just gave "MY" opinion about root.sh method being easier and more straightforward than gfree. Why, because some one else stated that gfree is easier and more straightforward. Third, you say I don't read? Go back and read the post I quoted, post I posted and your out the ass post. Then come back and tell me who is the one not reading.

dude lol you need to relax, the guy you quoted didn't say it's easier and simpler, he said that it's very easy and simple facepalm -____-. scroll up again, he said gfree is the way to go because root.sh didn't work for him, and it's similar to op's problem, so he should go with gfree.
I'm in this section because I own this device.
You shouldn't get so worked up over the term aguing, it isn't a bad thing. synonyms would be debating. You're arguing that your opinion on the matter is easier and simpler. I completely agree with that. But you quoted the guy who didn't make any claims comparing gfree or root.sh. amirite? lol
Wow...done.

i am having trouble with both gree and root.sh it will temp root but nothing else..
then the second time i used root.sh and everytime i powered down my phone it would go straight to the visionary triangle and stay there

[Q] returning to stock, is pd15img enough?

hello guys, i searched around on the procedure needed to be done to return a phone to stock for warranty exchange. if you used the visionary root.sh method, then you got nothing to worry about. just flash stock PD15IMG.zip. when reboot, it should show S-On.
ok thank you so much for you help!!
So if I flashed a stock rom via a pd15img.zip that wasn't rooted and includes an hboot, would it still be carrier unlocked ? I have one that I use on at&t and I don't want to lose the unlock and start all over from scratch.
