Hiya,
OK, so I bit the bullet and rooted my wildfire and loaded CM7.
Some great gains - but the biggest loss is the lack of the HTC sense keyboard, especially with stubby fingers like mine.
You had the option on the sense keyboard to switch the setup to be like an old school cell-phone keyboard with less buttons than the standard qwerty kb and so less chance of hitting the wrong key.
I have had a look round the market but can't see anything obvious.
So is there a good alternative to the non-qwerty HTC sense KB, or any way of getting the non-qwerty HTC sense KB into CM7 running on 2.3.3
Cheers
MD
Download 'smart keyboard pro' from the market. There is a setting in that which allows the old school style of keyboard.
This works fine on CM7. Using it personally.

I'm using this keyboard for a few weeks now - Love it!

Why would you use a software keyboard? Love sliding out the hardware keyboard and writing with it
why slide to type some letters? sometimes it's fastest using the screen.
which version are you using 1.4 or 2.0 beta?

Thanks for the heads-up; very nice keyboard. Better that the Blackstone one, in my opinion.
I'm currently using SPB Keyboard 4.
This one is looking good though. Who can give me some more solid results. Any conflicts with X1 HW keyboard? What do you like about it, or don't? Opinions please!

because I hate waiting for my X1 to change from (fast) portrait mode to (omg wtf slow) landscape mode
Yeah that keyboard is quite nice, but I prefer nice and large Keypad style keys with T9 vs. a qwerty keyboard in landscape mode, so no good 4 me....
just downloaded it. so far, i'm liking it, but it lacks T9 input which would be nice. and another thing that really drags it down is that if you type really fast, it won't even register half of the key inputs, which is really bad

But the question is still valid.
I just downloaded 1.4 and so far it works nicely with the german skin, but needs a soft reset after installation.
But nevertheless maybe somebody could let us us know the differnece between 1.4 and 2.0?

Man i would love to cook this into my rom but it doesn't seem like something that can be cooked because of the install process. Maybe i'm wrong.
It looks greater than default keyboard, i will try it

I'm using 1.4 right now, but I didn't do any hardreset, everything worked out of the box after registering it.
hi all,
currently using the default qwety large keyboard, i often mis press... perhaps my fingers are too big...
is there any better version that will help me? thanks !!!
Hi
Try Fingerkeyboard2 its very good.
You can find it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501122
Yes, +1 for fingerkeyboard v2.1
Excellent keyboard available in multiple languages in both portrait and landscape, plus its also editable so you can choose which characters/buttons you want to assign to certain keys etc
I'd say +1 for FingerKeyboard too. I have large chubby fingers and most of the time I can manage to write at a half decent speed. Obviously I'd prefer a faster alternative, but most of the keyboards out there bow down to this!
isnt fingerkeyboard worse for large fingers compared to querty?

I am using cootek touchpal, it needs sometime to get use to it but after it is nice and fast keyboard. if you wanted even bigger, then look for SPB full screen keyboard! I found it for long typing the best!!

To disable sound you can delete the .wav file in the directory were fingerkeyboard is saved i.e.
windows/programs/fingerkeyboard or storage card/programs/fingerkeyboard
Has anyone managed to get the HTC keyboard installed per chance? I'm quite happy with ultra keyboard (samsung one sucks). Just like to try the HTC version if anyone has managed to get it installed.
I tried to installl it but with no sucess, it crashes
Same for me :-(
Have you tried Swiftkey? Personally I think it is essentially a slightly more refined HTC IME, and always use it on my Desire these days in preference to the stock keyboard.
Regards,
Dave
Couple of things. First, I'm a fan of SwiftKey as well. Second, when installing the HTC_IME on a non sense device you also need to install the clicker.apk or else you'll get force closes.
Just FYI.

It's not going to work regardless. The highest resolution HTC IME_MOD is available for is 800x480 - Our tabs are 1024x600... Won't happen without some major modifications.
Porting
So, is anyone going to have a go at porting it or are the developers all elsewhere?
The Samsung keyboard does suck, that was the first thing I changed. I'm trying out Smart Keyboard which has an HTC skin and so far, I like it.
I've been trying ultra keyboard it's pretty good but it is a bit slow sometimes.
Try building one from here, select the FroYo hi-res version.
May still freak out since there's a resolution mismatch, but it should also be an (hopefully) easy fix for the devs to sort out.
Supporting thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654179
I can vouch for SwiftKey on the tab. I'm tapping this message out on it now. No issues with resolution.
Good luck.

Swiftkey is a good replacement.
However, I much prefer HTC IME... best on screen keyboard to me.
If anyone can mod it to work on the Tab, I'd love to get it. Even if it's pixellated, it doesn't really matter.
EDIT : Smart Keyboard pro made it all to me. It is perfect and looks exactly like HTC's.
Check out this cool 3D interface for the Nexus S. I installed using Dropbox On my wife's Nexus S and was so impressed I tried it on my N1 and it seems to be working fine. So smooth... just like the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys7gua-noOE
MOD EDIT: This is an unauthorized and leaked beta build. As such it is considered warez and has been removed.
You have to have 2.3.3
Wow, that's great! Thank you so much!
But aren't there any settings to configure it?
I'm still playing with it but I find the N1 menu key works on most screens and some screens have there own menu key at the top right.
tank you very nice
Looks great, downloaded onto N1 but cant access it. How did you apply this to the N1
Thanks
Press home.
What's 3D about it exactly anyway? Just a bunch of homescreens? Quite funky though.
I used Dropbox. It installed without an issue. My Nexus one is stock. My wife's Nexus S is also stock.
It's SPB shell

At first it doesn't look like there are but it's actually pretty customizable. You can re-arrange and/or remove panels by pressing menu and then choosing Manage Panels. If you long press on any icon (Not in 3D) you can then press the arrows to view the different layouts of certain applications/settings. Some items like Tools have an additional editing button (Available when the arrows can be pressed) which allows you to move certain items around or add/remove them.
It's a nice launcher but the 3D interface seems very touchy, is anyone else finding that also?
Pretty sure this is about to get locked.
Isn't this warez?
Yeah, this is an illegal leaked copy, isn't it?
I don't have any idea the language and it can't even dl.

Have any of these glossy launchers built with OEM licensing in mind ever taken off? Can't think of one.

Testing
Hello I just wanted to let everyone know I tested this on my nexus one running cm7 rc1 which runns off of android 2.3.2 and it works with no problem.
Would keep it on my phone but just for showing it off.. since it is pretty cool put otherwise it eats up ram like crazy!
Might be warez, it's not even realeased yet. http://spb.com/android-software/mobileshell/
Edit: It's in a private beta, so the version you posted is probably a leaked one. http://getandroidstuff.com/spb-mobile-shell-android-50-home-replacement-app-hits-beta-sign/
Looks very impressive but it's not for us minimalists! Great to show off to your friends though
Well, its not for the rest of us here anyway until cm7 come with 2.3.3.
Im not trying it yet but from what i see its to much animation. I still prefer the Miui interface.

Used to have thumbs (full version) have not used it in a while now and am still using this.
What I have done was to adjust the size of the keys fractionally and switched off predictive text, it is not really needed with a keyboard this size and it increases perfermance and screen space by taking away the extra word line at the top of the keyboard +++ It has a thumbs feature at the press of a button...
Really nice keyboard. Thanks
Already had it installed, not tried it out yet though!
Thanks for the reminder, I've now configured it as my default input method. Let's see how it goes!
I was on swiftkey tablet version, and I like this keyboard more, it is very nice.
Thank you
Been using it in anger for the first time today. Very nice!
how do you get the keyboard in the picture? Right now I got something really small like it was made for a cell phone. (nevermind wrong app)
O.T.
Where can I get Thor Transformer Keyboard?
Anyone please give me a link or is there an .apk?
Thanks.
I've worked with these guys in the past it is a really nice app for phones and windows but our 10.1 version needs some work I really like thumb and SwiftKey x tablet love how the keys glow like that!
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
thanks this key board is working nicely, the split is much easier for thumb typing..
it's kind of funny. I tried this keyboard a few weeks ago and didn't really like it, but I installed it again a few minutes ago and now I do like it. Kinda funny how that happens. I've been using Swiftkey Tablet X, but this may end up being a replacement (at least when I'm not using my bluetooth keyboard) Kind of upsets me now that I paid for Swiftkey...
I really don't know why you guys don't use Swype it's the best keyboard I've ever used! I use it on my sensation and on my iconia. Just go to beta.Swype.com and register for free. It makes no sense to Swype over the whole screen sooooo it has the feature to drop it's size to half that's great! try it you won't regret it
