Hi all and sorry for my bad english
I've succesfully created a chrooted Ubuntu 3,5GB image disk for webtop that was like a charm.
But when i wanted to share it with the community, I receive an segmentation fault in xterm and all don't function : it requires me to reinstall completely the webtop...
Can anyone help me with this segmentation fault because I don't know what is it and I've already searched on the web...
You are my final way to make it good !
Thank you for your help

Hiya!
I have been fighting with the debian all day. I just can't get debian working, even though I followed the instructions (www[dot]androidfanatic.com/community-forums.html?func=view&catid=9&id=2248). The stop hits in the face when I'm trying to use su (return) chmod 4755 * in Terminal. It "says Unable to chmod bootdeb: operation not permitted". And I switched back to the original kernel, I used to have the 1,056gHz model.
So I'm asking if someone knows what to do. I'm completely lost. Why I'm doing this? - Debian can run win apps via wine emulator. So this is kind of experiment...
Not knowing anything about that project, I would suspect that U8800 differs somewhat from G1 - so that installation script might not be compatible.
Mjeah, i put that to side and installed Ubuntu on u8800, and it fully worked!

Hey guys, i wanted to ask if anyone had managed to install windows or ubuntu images on our Defy with CM7 running on it.
If yes can u help me telling me the steps so i can make it too?
thanks in advance and sorry for my english
i heard that someone run Ubuntu on his phone, but it's very difficult to use it, because of touchscreen interface. I think that running windows is impossible on this phone, except some WP7 mods i would suggest staying on Android
Yep, I have run Ubuntu. It is basically run by mounting an ubuntu image to a loop device mount point. And the GUI is accessed using vnc. Dunno about windows!
You can also try out windows..bt its just windows 95 desktop version..
And pretty easy to achieve

Just thought I would share my experience in case anyone else was having the same problem
My problems were related to Flashtool 0.6.9.1 on linux <ubuntu oneiric> and the androidsdk_r18-linux trying to flash an x10 mini
Flashtool always loaded with errors related to libusb-1.0 and always hung at the "INFO - Please connect your device into flashmode." line and never proceeded to flash
the android-sdk-linux problem was that I couldn't even start the android tool due to some java errors which included: "java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no swt-gtk-3550 or swt-gtk in swt.library.path, java.library.path or the jar file"
Having spent half a day trying to reinstall various java packages and change PATH variables both these problems were down to a very simple tmp as noexec mount issue. I found the answer over in an ubuntu forum.
I am currently kicking myself but I'm so happy that everything finally works I thought I'd share this here in case there is anyone else with these problems.
a simple temporary fix (instead of changing fstab) is:
sudo mount -o remount,exec /tmp
Posting here cos I couldn't seem to post it in the Flashtool X10 thread, something about 10 helpful posts?
for the past couple of days i have been trying to install Ubuntu 13.04 on my nexus 7 but unfortunately, i keep running into problems. i have a laptop with Ubuntu 13.04 installed on it, but when i run the desktop installer it gives mean error for checksum validation. then i found a way that you could do it on a windows PC however when i go to download the cd images it bring me to a 404 (page not found) website. i would give the link but i am not allowed due to my account restrictions. if anyone could call me via Skype or team-viewer and could help me or perhaps provide an alternate way of installing Ubuntu or even tell me what i am doing wrong it would be much appreciated.
thanks in advanced, Kevin.

If you are installing it as the lone system, than yes, you will need the boot image. If you are using multirom to multiboot, than no, you wont need the boot image.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Its not very hard actually..First decide that do you want to remove android and replace it with android or yoou want to keep android untouched while multibooting ubuntu on your device as a secondary OPERATING system...
If you want me to I can write a full guide describing both procedures....I RECOMMEND MULTIBOOTING....
I need some help too
So i saw this video of a guy having ubuntu 12.04(pc version) on his phone,he was running the linux server on his phone and at the same time accessing it, using androidVNC . BTW i have a samsung galaxy S 4 (sprint Version ,without knox) Running cyanogenmod 11.0 , android version 4.4.2, the kernel version is [email protected] #1 Thu Jan 9 21:12:16 PST 2014 .
I checked if my phone is loop compatible using, the following in terminal emulator : zcat /proc/config.gz | grep CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP , i found it on a webpage , and i got y, that means it is a loop device, but when i ran CompleteLinuxInstaller i got into the following problem
Checking loop device ... FOUND
mount: mounting /dev/block/loop255 on /data/local/mnt failed : Invalid Argument
ERROR: Unable to mount the loop device
but when i did modprobe loop
it didn't find anything
so if you can help, me i am not a genius, just tell me the simplest way to fix this.
Thank's in advance,
GGgamer16
* one more thing ,i saw someting about multibooting, does it work like in windows(when you boot up it's asking you which os to run) or how does it work, and tell me hwo do i do it.

Stuck on Porting with HADK (simple question)
Hello sailors,
I want to port Sailfish OS to my LG Optimus HD 4x with the official HADK, but got stuck on chapter 14.3.2: Configure mountpoint information.
I don't know how to check (neither with cyanogenmod nor with TWRP) if initrd mounts the correct /boot and /data partitions.
On CM, I've checked with the CM file manager the directory /dev/block (there is no /dev/mmc on my device), but I don't know where I can find the information I need.
Below the list what i can see in /dev/block:
directory platform
directory vold
loop0
loop1 (and more file-iterations until loop7)
mmcblk0
mmcblk0boot0
mmcblk0boot1
mmcblk0p1
mmcblk0p2 (and more file-iterations until mmcblk0p13)
mmcblk1
mmcblk1p1
in the platform directory, there is:
directory sdhci-tegra.2
directory sdhci-tegra.3
and in these directories are a few more files.
Can anyone give me a hint? I'm a newbie on porting, although I have some experience on Linux and Android. So I think it is be a simple question, just a few examples on how to solve this issue would help me a lot.

Hiya,
I'm also new to this stuff, but maybe you could look into fstab? I could not find it on my lg 4x hd either.
i tried checking /etc/fstab and mount, but could not find anything which tells which mount point to use for /boot and /data partition.
i read somewhere you can check mount points in recovery in the file recovery.fstab.
I'm at work now, so i will try to help later!
Hey Sailor!
I checked in my device, but there were totally no binds to those specific mounts. But I found this:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_lge_p880/blob/cm-10.2/fstab.x3
I think these are the ones which you have mentioned were in the platform directory right?
Keep up the porting power!

Hi, the basic idea is to look at the device paths described in your device fstab with "ls -l /dev/something" and it should be a symbolic link to the actual device which is usually something like /dev/block/mmcblk*. Then you have to create a separate case for your device in the $ANDROID_ROOT/hybris/hybris-boot/fixup-mountpoints, you can use the other ones as an example to see how it should look like. I suggest you come to #sailfishos-porters IRC-channel on Freenode where you can get help quickly with various problems. Also a little hint, you should use cm-11.0 as a base for Sailfish OS instead of cm-10.1.
Ok great, thanks a lot for your help!
I also thought about taking my question in the #sailfishos-porters IRC-channel, but I knew that that I'll be very busy in September with no time for porting, and hoped that in the meantime someone could help me.
Nevertheless, I will show up in the IRC-channel sooner or later
By the way, why is CM11.0 better as a base for Sailfish OS than CM10.1.3? I thought just to follow the instructions in the HADK, but if there are no differences in porting I'll use CM11.0.
Thank you two again for your help!

You should get a new version of HADK, it has changed a lot just a few days ago. It is now more logical for new porters. The reason why you should use either CM11 or CM12.1 is that CM10.1 ports don't currently have the possibility for camera, hardware video decoding etc and most likely won't have in the future either.

Yes you need a linux distro. In the HADK, it is recommended to use a ubuntu 64bit machine, but if you don't like to install ubuntu (although you can use it parallel to windows), you can also use a virtual machine like Oracles Virtual Box. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you should have at least 4 GB RAM (the more the better), and with a virtual machine, Windows itself needs at least 1 GB RAM.
But installing ubuntu is the easiest step in porting, so you'll have to learn and read a lot. Nevertheless, the HADK is a good guide
