Here's the thing.
My NS4G when it's connected to 4G is great.
However, when it goes idle (which is most of the time if I'm not using it), I'm not connected to the internet at all. No puch notifications. No Gtalk messages. No Facebook updates. Nothing.
And it only wakes up when I wake it up.
this all sorts of defeats the object of having a contantly on connection, and I don't get the benefit of 4G, unless it's literally only to be used when I'm surfing the web ? Is that all it's good for on this phone, and the reaosn I'm paying another 10 bucks ?
Is there any way to increase the tine it takes to go idle ?
Hmmm... it should just be idle when no data is needed. We had another report from another user of the same problem. Can you send email to yourself and wait 10 min to make sure it doesn't work?

That is exactly what I've been doing all day. No emails. Gtalk goes offline. all get delivered when I connect by browsing or opening facebook. anything that required data.
Hmm there was a setting for something like that. I used it on my evo to conserve juice I just had to check my phone if expecting something important

Can u check in "accounts" in setting and uptop above all your accounts make sure background sync is checked

Look in the questions section for thread called 4g idle. That's the same issue.

Too much to ask for you to post in one of the other two threads on this subject?

may I ask if your wifi policy is set to "when screen off" might be getting the hand off between cell radio and wifi when reconnecting the mothership
How you check that
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I'm experiencing the same thing. For the past month or so, my signal bars go from Green to Gray and as a result I lose any connection to Google's services. Such as Gmail, Gtalk, Gvoice etc. Every time I see this, I have to login to Gtalk and the bars go green again. But this fix only lasts from a few minutes to a few hours if I'm lucky. I've been on the Google forum reading about this issue since April on T-Mobile and other carriers, and now since a month ago on Sprint.
Yes that's the problem that I have

same here! t-mobile germany...
I had that problem with my HTC Desire. The problem only appears when there's very little space left in RAM or internal memory...
No this sounds like Google having server issues. I'm seeing the same on my phone.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
Do you see this happening with 3G, or wifi as well?
See it more on 3g. You thing it can be the gaaps cuz I get it back every time I go to gtalk

I've seen a lot of apps that will send your phone text to a tablet but it seems like none are compatible yet anyone know of any that are yet ?

Tablet talk works great.

I use "What's App." Works great across different platforms (and especially for international texts - no fees!). It's like an instant messaging service, but it piggybacks your cell network if you're tethering.
EDIT: sorry, I forgot to mention that it only works if the other person has What's App, too.
I use Google voice, only thing that you don't get are the picture msgs.

Try HeyWire Link ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5tZWRpYWZyaWVuZHMuY2hpbWUiXQ.. ) in google play it is free and it works. Takes a few min's to setup and a little thinking because of the way the help files are, well there english is not to good lets put it that way. But it works very well. Hope that helps
Yes, I also use the fantastic product: 'Tablet Talk'
Rob has sent this from his Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I just use Google Voice which is linked to my Sprint account. Only downside is that you can't receive MMS.
+1 for tablet talk, it works great I just hope for more theme/customizing options in the future.

Yes. Tablet talk syncs to your phone via WiFi or Bluetooth..so technically its using your cell service as an "extension" to your cell phone. I love it.

Google Voice, however like someone mentioned they haven't incorporated MMS into it yet.
Will try Tablet Talk tho.
I've used Tablet Talk for a couple weeks now and it hasn't really worked for me. I'm thinking that it's probably because of my phone. Does anyone else have a Galaxy S II/N7 pairing that works?

Be a bit more specific For example..are you using a 3rd party SMS program such as GoSms or Handicent? If so..read the FAQ for tablet talk.
Whats the issue that you're having?
Seriously amazed by tablet talk, my galaxy s3,suffered the sudden death syndrome, so was in a fickle, bought a cheap Huawei blaze and it's tethered to my phone and having to use tablet talk for texts and calls is amazing. Those using tablet talk for Blue tooth calling how clear is it.

If I'm not mistaken, In tablet talk you have to be connected by blue tooth or on the SAME wifi. An app called CLOUD SMS doesn't require that you be on the same wifi, I can receive text on my n7 even if I'm connected to wifi and my phone is not.

Hey guys, I was just wondering if someone could help me. I've got my Nexus 4 on EE UK. My signal bars stay blue for about an hour or so meaning that its connected to the Google servers. But then they go grey and all my Facebook notifications, gmail and talk don't come through. Here's the odd part.....if I put the handset in air plane mode and turn it back on it reconnects! Anybody got any ideas????

I have the same problem, with wi-fi or mobile connection. Can't seem to find a solution. However, sometimes it just magically activates itself again and I get a load of missed messages/e-mail etc.

Yup, exactly the same. Not so much with WiFi tho. I did read that if you didn't sign in with your gmail account on first boot then u need to reset your entire handset and sign in again from the very start using the gmail account. Some say it works others say it doesn't.

Still the same. Loses connections in deep sleep & I get grey bars that switch to blue when I activate the device.
Surely there's a fix for it. Must b. Wonder if manual APN settings would fix it.

Similar problem here - Am on T-mobile UK but the carrier hasn't changed to EE like it had on my previous phone (anybody else like this?)
But yeah, have no issues over wifi but occasionally mobile data stops working and the bars go grey; when activating data connection it sometimes takes quite a while for them to turn blue.
Anybody managed to rectify the issue with APN settings?

Hey this has been bugging me all day.

Sounds like Fast Dormancy. It switches back and forth to save battery when there is no data use.

It will change to H when using data, otherwise it will remain on 3G when idle. Mine also switches between the two regularly. I wouldn't worry about it.
As per the title, I am finding on a daily basis that I am only getting 14-15 hours Max.
I only have one homescreen with no Widgets on it.
I have 3 mail accounts, 2 are exchange, 1 Gmail.
No live wallpaper,
Been in a good signal area most of the time, send maybe 10 texts a day, very few calls. No music listening, no picture taking.
Phone is a uk phone d802 supplied by 3 but reflashed with generic open firmware to remove 3 bloat.
Any ideas what's going on or how I try to resolve it?

Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Might be an app sucking the battery or a bad flash. Try reflashing the firmware. Do a factory reset before the flash and one afterwards.
Also, install GSAM battery monitor.
Disabling knock on might help as well. However if you do find a solution without disabling knock on please let me know.

try regular procedure found everywhere on how to determine wakelock.
also check for battery unfriendly settings. like email sync settings, push is friendliest, check-in every minute keeps phone awake lol.
but most importantly, state what you do in these 14 hours. How many is the screen on. etc.

I think I can do this from the standard task manager can't I? Sure there is an option to stop services. Don't really use Google now so will not miss that.
Screen time on from my screenshot yesterday was 12% don't know if that's considered high etc.

Have two exchange accounts that are push and one Gmail set for every hour.
Generally just viewing Facebook, bit of browsing and 1-2 calls a day if about 5mins. Occasionally streaming tv services for about 30 mind.

Try turning off reporting and history in Google location settings. As helped my phones battery tremendously.
Sent from my VZW LG G2
yeah, set Gmail to push,
turn in settings locations off
in Google settings also
turn backup off,
reboot, check if settings were saved
install betterbatterystats from play or this forum. with that check kernel and partials. Google what they are and mean.
Also check deep sleep percentage in cpu spy. should be, pending you keeping awake around 95% in period off charger.
success
