[Q] Having trouble with APN setting for T-Mobile - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I'm using an AT&T sim card and T-Mobile as my $15/mo unlimited data provider.
I have no idea how the third party store did it, but it worked before I got rid of WM6.5.
After rooting it to HyperDroid-CM7-v2.1.0[a2sd+][CyanogenMod7 LEO 2.3.4], the APN defaults to ATT with no other option. I have manually inserted a combination of settings as follows:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com or wap.voicestream.com or
Proxy: 216.165.155.050 or 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
MMSC: http ://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc or http: //216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: 216.165.155.050 or 216.165.155.50 or 216.155.165.50
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
After entering all that I either press the back key or the window key to save, but they always end up disappearing. One thing I noticed is if I don't change the MNC to 260 and leaving it at default (410), the APN I entered will stay selected. I selected and un-selected the Data enable option for each of the combination with no luck of access to the internet. Hitting reset to default would leave only ATT (wap.cingular) as the only option.
Long story short:
Using AT&T for minutes and T-Mobile for data.
Worked before rooting.
New APN settings disappear if is MNC: 260
Cannot access T-Mobile's data plan.
Side note:
Wi-fi still works
If anyone has any insight to this problem it would be much appreciated!
______________________________________________________________
Edit:
Turns out the third party store has me signed up for AT&T's $15 Unlimited Data Plan for Non-Smart Phones since the HD2 is not part of AT&T's smartphone selection.
Thanks for the help everyone!

Hello. I have no idea why your internet could have worked from the get-go. I have never heard of this setup before. All I can say are that the settings are OK but again, I dont understand how that could work. Sorry Im not more help.

That's fine. I was hoping to have this problem solved before resorting to go to the 3rd party store.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App

maybe if you remove the AT&T APN completely (long press - delete) then enter in the t-mo one?

I just tried removing AT&T but the new settings don't stay whenever I change MNC to 260.

For some reason, I'm not seeing either a E or 3G... But I get full voice signal.. Please help. Thank you.
try epc.tmobile.com
Do I need to put anything in for port number, server, etc...?
heres what i have

if youre on T-Mobile the only p[lan that will work is the 25$ android data plan. (you need to call tmobile support and ask for it to get it for 25, otherwise its 30 online)

Mine is the same but APN is epc.tmobile.com & MCC is 310. Does location change this?
No you are absolutely correct, wrong info on my part.
I will have to start double checking before I post.
Hmm... As of right now, I have default settings and it cycles through GPRS, E, and 3G, and even no data connection. Just very weird... I did erase the server "*" and the 4 characters under password and that didn't do anything. My MCC is 310 and MNC is 260. South Florida (if that matters)
Hmm upgrade your SIM?
I would go to the store and see if they can let them know tech support sent you. I've seend this fix 3G issues. Make sure you do have the android data plan and use epc.tmobile apn i posted with the fixes in the following post.
i'm curious, since it was mentioned about 25(30) plan
im grandfathered in to the 5.99 and the "hack" still works on my winmo phones for unlimited. reason i havent really wanted to update is cause i'm rarely on 3g i always get edge access (i dont have a nexus one yet, hence my question here). if i'm only getting edge in my area (i dont have the option for discount so going with full price on n1) any major drawbacks to not getting the 25/30$ plan?

My unlimited data plan is only $20. I'm grandfathered in from way back.

(TEST) Working for me t-mobile mms picture and data APN setting

I see people having problems sending picture messages via mms so I would like you share what I have done to get mine to work considering the amount of time it took me to figure out. I still can't send or receive pictures with wifi on but texts work ok and internet has been perfect with no drops in 24 hours. I have checked so many forums I am just going to thank everyone and also say I'm sorry if this s a overpost.
HERE IS WHAT I DID:
1. First wifi must be off.
2. Copy your current apn settings so you can replace them if tis doesn't work for you.
3. Delete all apn's
4. New Apn
Fill in exactly like this:
Name: (whatever you wanna call it)
APN: My APN
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0 (if it asks)
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
AUTH TYPE: NONE
APN TYPE: default,mms
5. Save
Now this setting allowed me to keep my mobile network connection without my data dropping once when tested for a week but did not let me send or recieve picture mms messages. I did not find these setting but someone else here on xda posted them and I give them all the credit.
Now make a second new APN and fill it in as follows:
Name: (whatever you want to call it)
APN: epc.t-mobile.com
Proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.050
MMS port: 8080
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication Type: none
APN TYPE: <not set>
Save
I cant take credit for this setting either because I found it in the forum somewhere but I think this is what I found and its a big questionable think.
Highligh second settings dot or the one with the APN: epc.t-mobile.com
Now, I noticed you have to add them in this order or you wont get the dot to select the second apn listed because there is no "APN type" filled in but do it this way and you should get a dot at apn screen. After adding these two settings, I have had perfect pictures and been able to send and receive them.
If you receive a picture message with wifi on, I also found a fix for that because it will seem your mms connection is frozen. Simply unchecking and rechecking mobile network box did not solve this problem for me. Go to mobile networs-apn-highlight first apn dot (APN: my APN)-wait for data icon to disappear-then re-highlight second dot ( APN: epc.t-mobile.com) and back out. Data should reconnect and start working again.
Please test this out and see if it works for you if your having problms and let me know the outcome. I hope for a least one ataboy! LOL

The second APN settings are like mine, with no data issues...
Can you guys post your data speeds?
No matter what ROM/Android/kernel combo I use, I can't seem to get consistent data speeds above 200-300kb/s in HSDPA. I should be getting 1Mb/s, but I'm not.
I haven't had problems with SMS/MMS, but data drops do happen a couple times a day.

I was having same problems with a different build I was using then swithed builds and everything is fine.
Here is my set-up:
task 29 (important step)then flashed energy ToG edition updated 12/5
reformatted sd card
Android version: core droid hd updated 12/13 stock kernel h 8.5.3
radio: 2.10.50.26 (whatever stock tmobile is I'm not sure about .26 but first 3numbers are correct)
Only inputed second apn setting listed above and works great.
battery drain seems a bit high but I dont care it works great.
I want to add that the new core droid hd is awesome and by far the best build i've tested in my opinion. Give it a try.
In the city of st. paul mn I have got 4.2 download and around 2+ upload with above apn setting

Solution for MMS sending difficulties anyone?

Wheel just keeps a spinnin and spinnin!
Wonder if it has to do with apn settings? They do indicate mms and Internet on the bottom setting.
Any suggestions appreciated? Who wants to be able to create these cool notes and not be able to send??
whats your plan, per or post pay, and what apn settings did you use, there are a lot of threads which address this.
I have a GoPhone $50 unltd.with apns suggested for this.
I DID walk in to att with my Note, and said cust service suggested I ask for a new sim cars and got a 4G card (vs the designated GoPhone) one, and that's when the problems started now that I think about it.
So my apn needs might have changed.
Ill have to play around with them.
Network speeds are way better...just no MMS.

definitely do not disclose to att that you have a smartphone.
I have the 50/month unlimited voice/text/web/data gophone att plan and my speeds are very good. i cant compare to network speed but im coming from tmous3g and it is close.
i registered the sim card in an older nokia e72, then once it worked fully, i swapped it into my gnote. not sure if att will catch the data usage and ding me for the overage as if it were a smartphone, but until that happens this is a brilliant workaround.

I tried to change the apn to different settings and no speed difference. Is this setting faster on G nOte?
Thank you

I was having issues with my mms as well. I tried multiple apn settings but nothing. What finally fixed it was inputting the apn settings below in the go SMS application itself. And using those apn settings on the phone. My speeds are not as good as a couple of the other apns but I now have working mms and fully functional phone. I pulled the apn settings off of my infuse.

I'm also on AT&T and for some reason my APN has changed a couple of times on it's own. . In fact it just happened earlier today and I had the exact same problem as you. For some reason the MMS port was blank so I changed that back to 80. Also there was info in the username and password and I deleted both out. It worked again right after I made those changes.
I can give you the rest of my settings if those changes don't work for you. I'm using the settings that have been posted for AT&T unlimited data.
I copied the settings out of my brothers cappy, and finally got MMS working. Settings in the other thread weren't working for me. Im getting 3-7Mbs down and a MB up. Im post paid, with a 4G sim and so called "unlimited data".

[Q] Speedtest.net and Nexus 4 problem

I have the Speedtest.net app on my Nexus 4 and ever since I got the phone I can't properly run a test my ATT speeds. On Wifi it works great but when I turn off Wifi, Speedtest freaks out and it either gives me a very high ping around 260ms and the download is ALWAYS 0.01Mbps and upload stays around 0.5Mbps or sometimes it won't even connect and gives me error but I do get an IP and I can surf the web so it's not a connection issue.
I've attached a screenshot of what it looks like.
My main question is why can't it pick up a regular download speed? I never had this problem with my Galaxy Nexus.
Thanks
Probably the proxy settings in your APN. Remove those and you should be good. Post up the settings from the APN you're using if you're not sure what to edit.

Delete everything out of the Proxy setting. [Edit - you can delete the data out of the Port entry directly below Proxy as well]
I would guess that AT&T probably blocks or throttles this on their side to control bandwidth.
Yup, that did it, but wow I'm getting some really crappy results.. under 1Mbps
If your account is provisioned for HSPA+ you'll probably get better speeds using the phone or pta APN. There are a couple recent threads discussing this. I'll link later if you can't find anything.

you should get around 5-7 mbps, and MMS works correctly (both sending and receiving)
If these settings DO NOT work, then you need to call AT&T and have them upgrade your data plan to allow 4G! This will be free of charge.

No no no, don't do this or use those settings.
OP, you didn't mention that you are on a MEdia Net plan (dumb phone plan) and that is confusing the people trying to help you. Any time you mention cellular issues, you should specify the plan you are using.
Now, OP I can tell from your APN that you ARE on a MEdia Net plan. Next time, I would recommend you search the subforum for MEdia Net it will bring you to this thread, where the issue has been identified and resolved.
I posted on page 3 regarding the issue, which uses the same resolution that bedoig prescribed: delete the entry for proxy.
Now, being that you are on the MEdia Net plan, you won't be able to get speeds above 875KB/s down (7Mbps), even on HSPA+:15. AT&T apparently caps all dumb phone plans to that bandwidth. You won't get LTE and the phone/PTA APNs will not work for you. Those are smartphone APNs, so you should only use the default APN (which was automagically selected for you) but you can delete proxy to use bandwidth tests.
You could switch to a more expensive DataPro plan to get marginally faster speeds, but you'll be capped at 2GB/month and there's a chance you'll be caught tethering. I don't recommend you switch to DataPro for the very slight and unnoticeable upgrade in speed. AT&T doesn't monitor data use on MEdia Net plans so you can use well over 2GB on your current plan without issue. As I've mentioned in that thread and in several of my posts, I've once used over 12GB in a month; tethering for myself, my roommate, as our many guests because Comcast was being sheisty.
Now you've got all the info you need, and see that it was already available in another thread. I would recommend this thread for deletion because it adds clutter, not value. If people search for this answer, they will be linked to both threads.
Thats not necessarily true, my apn was originally the wap cingular one as well because I was using a nexus one prior, upon changing to the 'phone' apn, everything worked.
Depends how much the op is currently paying for data plan I guess if those settings don't work.

Well if it is going by plan, I have the grandfathered 'unlimited' plan and the APN settings seemed to work for me. Yup, 12Mbps down here!
I got another problem. Once I do a test and the speedtest uses GPS. GPS doesn't switch off and kills my battery unless I do a reboot.
I'm running AOKP, so it could be a problem related to that.
That's insane

[Q] Nexus 4, Net10-AT&T, MMS Download/Receiving

Hello World,
[Edit] for those who find this to be a tl;dr situation just read the last section of what i have tried and please let me know if you can think of any unorthodox/ thinking out of the box method i have yet to imagine myself lol. thanks in advance
1st off:
Apologies if this is the umpteenthmillion thread on this, but i have been scowering the net and trying everything i can and i may have found my own answer possibly in that net10 is to blame and i am powerless to fix this. gonna post this as neatly as i can to avoid any confusion down the line
Problem:
Net10-AT&T side of the BYOP
can do everything except Download/ Receive MMS.
Current Stats:
Nexus 4 16g from Google play store
Stock 4.2.2 (never been rooted or had bootloader unlocked)
Net10 AT&T full size sim (cut to fit Micro size)
APN Stats:

What i have tried:
-I have tried lots of changes to the mmsc and mms proxy.
-I have tried the trick posted on a couple fourms where you put in the net10 apn for T-Mobile and reboot, fiddle for a few, switch to the net10 AT&T apn and see if that works
-downloaded go sms and put in the mmsc and mms proxy info into the app manually
-tried go sms without the mmsc info put in manually
-ported my number from the AT&T micro sim to the AT&T full size sim (used a micro simcard cutter by noosy to make it fit)
-went into the stock messaging app settings and turned off auto retrive so i got the option to download the incoming MMS txt manually
-Talked to Net10 CS and the lady actually told me it could take up to 4 hours for it to work and that if it didn't that it was my phone
the only thing left i can think of is that im either completely boned with no hope or that there is a possible fix i havn't found yet that may require root such as possibly its the updated version of the messaging app and i could have to some how get an older version of it to replace it
please any and all ideas are encouraged!!! i will still be looking all over the web for a possible fix, if anymore information is needed please ask
Did you get any answers to this yet? I just activated my Net10 on ATT (no TMO at work).

Okay. So I just registered on this site because I've been scouring the interwebs for an answer and XDA has helped me a lot in the past. What I did was use the settings that net10 gave me, but instead used mms2.tracfone.com instead of mms3. This solved my MMS issue and now I can send and receive. Let me know if this doesn't work.
