Assigning Ringtones to Contacts. - Galaxy S I9000 General

I have assigned ring-tones to some of my contacts but they don't always work.
sometimes they will use the assigned ringtone and the other times it will use the Default ringtone.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I know it is not the Rom as it did the same thing on the stock Samsung Rom also.
Thanks.

Is there a way to assign ringtones based on category?

Is there a way to assign ringtones based on category with the HTC Wizard (IE: Friends get ring1, family gets ring2, business gets ring3, etc.)? I have found a way to assign the ringtone for each specific contact, but that can be a pain when you have a large number of contacts.
Thanks in advance,
You can do that with Photo Contact Pro!
I don't think it is possible in default WM5
Doesn't mortring do that, free?

How did you do that?
shdwphnx, How did you assign ringtones by contacts?

Edit your contact, and scroll down about 75% of the screen - there is a Ringtone option there. At least there is on my US T-Mobile MDA.
BTW, which field is used in Outlook for Ringtone? Perhaps it would be easier to assign the ringtone on PC and then sync it?

I just found Mortring, and it is unfortunately currently not compatible with WM5.

As far as I have been able to determine, the Ringtone field is not transferred to Outlook on the PC.
Hopefully Mort will update his program, or someone else will release something similar for a reasonable price. (I found a few such as Photo Contacts Pro, but they all have lots of features I don't need, and am not willing to pay for).
There is a nice app that does excactly that, i've tried it out on my k-jam and worked very well, assigning ringtones to groups and even sms tones to groups or individual contacts and still keeping the default sms notification tone!
However (there always are howevers)
Before installing the app, when i would receive an incoming call and just wanted to silence the ringer, not reject the call i'd simply slide the volume button up or down and the ring would stop.
After installing it i could no longer silence a call by the volume button, therefore my only options where to answer it or reject it.
I contacted their support team and was told that it's not possible to silence the ringer as the app's ringer is controlled by the system volume, not the phone volume..
If you're quite happy not having the option to silence the ringer of an incoming call, then i recommend trying this app.

contact ringtones

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I have one ringtone for all calls and then assign different ringtones to different contacts. Only some of the custom ringtones will ring when they call other times it goes to the default. I've confirmed that the ringtone is assigned to the right contact and even tried to use ring extender program but it's sporadic.

Search a little and youll find that everyone has already encountered most of the issues
I actually replied to that thread. I wasn't asking how, I was checking to see if anyone had the same issue with personal ringtones not working for all contacts.

[Q] assigning ringtones on samsung focus

has anyone had any issues with assigning a different ringtone to a specific caller from your people list? i know we can't do custom ringtones yet, but i'm just trying to set up different ringtones to differentiate from callers and everytime i assign one and hit save, it doesn't seem to take affect. whenever they call it rings whatever my default ringtone is.
any suggestions or similar cases?
I haven't had any issues with the ringtone not changing. Does it change and then revert back for you or just never change in the first place? Try rebooting the phone and seeing if you are still having an issue.

assign it to the mobile number or home number not the account.. i.e. go to the account edit the mobile number account or which ever number account you want to change the ring tone and select a ring tone.

[Q] Contact-specific ringtone

Looked at every thread in Q&A and didn't see anything addressing this. While I can set a default ringtone, I can't set a specific ringtone for each contact. In the Contact Details screen, there's an Options/Ringtone that you can click, but changing it doesn't do anything. Anyone figure this out or is it just a bug?

I can on mine, I just select the contact, and LOOK AT BOTTOM OF CONTACT INFO, I can assign a SPECIFIC ringtone to that contact ONLY...
if this option is not there by default, EDIT the contact and the option might appear at bottom of contact info...
I have my wifes number set to tone locs "Wild Thing..."
It looks like the problem was that I was syncing contacts from TMobile. For whatever reason you can't modify the ringtone, not sure if this is only a problem with Tmobile syncing or all syncing. You also can't modify ringtones on the TMobile website. So I exported contacts to my SD card, then imported back in. Now it works.

[Q] Phone won't save "None" Ringtone - reverts to Default

I have a stock Nexus 4, currently with Android 4.2.2. I haven't yet installed the new update.
One of my Contacts is "Block," to which I add incoming calls that I want to block, such as telemarketers. When I set it up, I changed the ringtone for that contact to "None," so that it would not ring, or rather, that I would not hear the ring.
Today I learned that the device will not save "None" as a ringtone choice. I change the ringtone to None and click OK, but when I check the ringtone again, it has reverted to the default.
When I tested the function by changing the ringtone to the next option on the list, "Andromeda," it retained that setting. The problem appears to be isolated only to the ringtone "None."
I would appreciate any suggestions how to get it to save that ringtone, or alternately, how else to banish unwanted callers. Many thanks.
Maybe create a custom ringtone with nothing but silence, copy it your phone, and use that as a default for the blocked calls?

Thanks. I was thinking of a version of that - creating a silent custom ringtone and renaming it to one of the ringtones that functions (like Andromeda or whatever), which I don't use anyway. I think I'll try your way first.
There's always the coward's way out - if I get too frustrated I'm just going to reset everything to factory default and start adding apps again slowly.
Thanks! Season's greetings :good:

HI,
Can you just send that person or entry straight to voicemail instead of worring about the ringtone? Usually telemarketers wont leave voicemail.
