well i updated rom manager now its hard to flash roms takes so long and seems like its not doing anything getting nervous and stopped flashing two time and went to a back up
just flash anything u want urself from recovery
If you're flashing a gingerbread sense rom, it does take forever. It's a lot larger than sense 1.0 and way larger than cm7. Otherwise, I like to click the option in rom manager to remove progress bar, as it really does speed it up

When I flash a new Tom I of course wipe data and cache nowhere my apps seem to stay intact. Its only started doing it recently. I'm no complaining exactly but I find it odd. Its happened with multiple Roms (vanilla sense and Froyo roms) any thoughts as to why?

It backed everything up the first time you used a Cyanogen rom, and will keep doing it every time you flash another rom with Cyanogen in it.
ah ok. Makes sense. Not a bad feature I just didn't realize it did that. Thanks for the help.

Hey Guys, sorry if this has been covered before but I have been reading these forums since I got my Fascinate on launch day and am still confused. I am rooted with clockwork installed and I have flashed some roms but never kept any on, always just restored with clockwork. Also I have DJ05 on my phone.
1) Is there a way flash a rom and not lose all of my apps and the way my phone is set up. I like the way Super dark looks in the screen shots but don't have time to set my phones up again. Is what I want a theme?
2) Another issue I have is that I like the way samsung has the puzzle piece for texts and missed calls on the lock screen that take me right to my messages, are there any roms that have that incorporated.
Thanks for the help
Sal
1. You can use titanium pro to back up your apps. If you are using launcher pro it will save all your settings as well so it will be the same setup. You could also just install a theme which if you do that there is not a need to erase cache/data and you lose nothing.
2. I do believe you can install the puzzle lock screen if you wish, but don't quote me

You don't have to wipe data when you flash a rom. While it is recommended, I wait to see if I have issues after the flash before wiping.

Well there ya go, I thought it was basically a must.
Yes, you can flash a rom. Just flash the theme again after the new rom is flashed.
If you look in cwm, look under blackhole rom. There are different stock options that you can individually select to update. The puzzle unlock is one of the .zip's that are ready to be flashed.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna try them out tonight after work. I backed up with titanium backup using dropbox last night. So I'm ready to go with the roms.

Just one more question regarding the puzzle lock. Do I have to have blackhole installed to use it or can I have like super dark or any other rom or theme with it?
Thanks again for the help

I have a few questions.
I understand there are official updates for our phones 2.1->2.2 but they are operator based. So there are customized roms, that are with custom stuff.
I'm really intereseted in upgrading from 2.1 official rom to a custom, but dont know exactly which one to choose.
I once flashed a 2.2 but it bricked my phone, so i had it repaired (the phone didnt respond to any key combinations or anything at all).
So is there any point to upgrade if there isnt any stable roms.
And also why is everyone waiting for the official update from samsung when there are already 2.2 roms for 5800.
Lagfix seems like a thing to try out, but i want to be sure which rom is the best and so that the basic stuff works.
Don't know about others, but my reason for not upgrading to unofficial/custom ROMs is that I don't want to risk my phone (even if that risk may be small..)..I also don't have time to backup data, reset phone, re-install app.s, do settings again etc. which might be needed in the flashing process.
Besides, from what I read in this forum, none of the ROMs seems to be satisfactory enough & ready for prime time. But frankly, I am losing my patience fast & may soon go for a custom ROM if official upgrade doesn't arrive by end of this month..damn Samsung for taking sooo long..

Thanks for your reply, that's what i wanted to know. I was thinking the same thing that probably the custom roms arent stable enough and that the official update still aint available.
Why don't you use a stock 2.2 ROM like the JPF?

is it safe and works fine just like the default 2.1 that we have in our phones?
Sure ^^ and you cant brick your phone if you dont flash your bootloader^^ jpf also works faster^^ i would recommend to flash a custom rom. Like lestatious one. Everything works well on it^^ have fun
Sent from my GT-I5800 using XDA App
just dont flash the bootloader and you can always reenter download mode.
backing up isn't that big of an issue, titanium backup backs up pretty much everything.
If you're planning on using titanium, just be aware that you should only restore non android apps when switching from eclair to froyo..i tried this and kept getting fc's. Just make backups of stuff in the individual apps like contacts etc, then restore them after you upgrade to froyo. Then make a full titanium backup of everything once you have your phone the way you want it. From then on you can just test any rom you like and always have a quick easy way of getting your stuff back. I recommend using astro to backup titanium so you can have a version to hand after flashing.
P.S. I use jfp ultra clean and it rocks my socks

Ok, i might try out the stock 2.2 rom... But what about lagfixes or are they even neccessary on 2.2?
Cause my current 2.1 stock rom is really laggy, i remove tasks to clean up memory but it's still kinda slow.
Well if you're flashing a stock rom I would definately suggest JPF because it's pretty stable. You don't necessarily need the lagfix though..I personally found it made things a bit strange with random hangs when closing applications. Oh yeah and don't forget to use the modded 3d gallery from SGS Tools (I use the "last" version). You should be able to install it via the "Upgrade stock apps" option. You can also use it to change your GPS pool to Europe if needed.

So the jpf rom isnt europe or just needs some configs like that? But is the stock rom the best option, i don't neccessarily need all those extra stuff like samsung apps and layar etc. Pauri mentioned lestatious rom, its on JPA, for example. Is each one one of those stock roms like an update with still some bugs on them or just converted from other phone updates?
I'm between that custom rom and the JPF stock right now..
Oh it's a european rom, it's just that the default gps pool is set to north america. I installed The modded 3d gallery as a work around for the battery drain bug that the stock gallery has in froyo. Jpf clean is what I'm using till theres a more stable lestat rom because I tried jp9, which was good, but the bloatware...oh my..

i guess i'll take your word for it and try out the JPF
i flashed the JPF and so far so good. It's atleast twice as fast as the stock 2.1 i had. Thanks you all for help
one more question, how do i root froyo 2.2 ?
i tried the one click method, after the command running it said everything is fine you're rooted. In recovery mode i tried to install update.zip but it didnt work.
havent see any alternatives for 2.2
can anyone help?
Hi I just got my new droid 2 and flashed cm7 2.3.7 onto it. I was sad to find out that the camera doesn't work on this version at all. I was hoping to flash liberty but i don't know if i can just flash it over cm7 or if i have to flash my rom back to stock. Any help or advice would be great!
Thanks,
Albinoman
The lastest version of CM7 has a working camera. It's said not to let the screen lock though with the camera app open or it will FC. Dumb I know, but they are making progess.
Can I just flash the new one over my current one? Do I have to wipe data/cache?
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
So ive had my droid R2D2 for about 5 months now, and im just starting to experiment with custom roms. So far ive been trying to use ROM manager, and i used it to install clockwork recovery mod, but it didn't take nearly as long as it seemed to have taken other people to flash. On top of that, no matter what i try whether i try to boot into recovery from ROM manager, or just turn my phone off and then hold the power button with the x hard button on my keyboard, it takes me to a picture of the android guy with an exclamation point, and when i try to hit the search hard button on my keyboard to bring up menu options it doesnt do anything. As for right now im just trying to back up my current stock ROM, but i would eventually like to install a custom rom as well. Any suggestions or highly recommended ROM's either? I was gonna go with cm7 but if there were others someone highly suggested i would like to know about them.

Hi,
I just purchased a used Droid X to replace my mom's OG droid. I read as much as I could on rooting the DX and all that jazz (completely different coming from an HTC by the way... holy hell and I am sorry).
I have already rooted the Droid X, installed boot strap... etc.
Made a backup using recovery.
I searched the forum for "most reliable ROM" and came up with rubix 2.0
I flashed it through recovery and ended up stuck at the boot motorola logo.
Panicked and stressful I have to say! WTF! Now I understand why it sucks so much to have a locked bootloader. You CAN'T boot into recovery to flash your back up! Well at least I couldn't. I tried the home button, search button boot up method and didn't work. I was getting worried....
After reading more... I SBF'd it which is a completely new thing to me. It ended up being easy but it's really lame coming from the Incredible and Thunderbolt. Again, I now feel your pain!
Anyways, I really DO NOT want to go through that again. Do you have any idea how hard it was to find a downloadable SBF file due to the megaupload shutdown!!!! I have just re-rooted after using the SBF file found here: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/09/06/droidx-gingerbread-4-5-602-sbf-released/
So after all that I am just going to ask.
What is the most reliable ROM and what SBF file do I have to download to be compatible with it???
Remember... this is for my mom... I need a reliable, stable, bug free ROM. This ROM will likely be the one she will use indefinitely so please choose one that is as stable as can be.
Thank you for all your help.
That SBF is perfect for the newest roms.
The DX is on .605...but the kernel doesn't change at all so there is literally no change if you accept the OTA or not.
Stable GB Rom...
I haven't messed around with 1st init (blur based) for a long time...so I can't say for certain.
But as far as 2nd init goes...
I'd choose MIUI.
She'll love it.
Actually, I flashed MIUI to my mom's X (who is completely tech-retarded) and she has been on it for a good 3-4 months now...
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11858-ro...charge-led-updated-bootmenu-charge-while-off/
The newest build includes a working "boot menu" that can get you into CWM from a power-off state if you ever need it.
Also...
Once you flash...
I'd HIGHLY recommend using said bootmenu to set her overclocking speeds / cpu governor.
I assume she won't be to worried about speed...
So I'd either underclock her a tad...
Or leave her at stock.
But be sure to set the CPU governor to "SmartassV2"
The phone sleeps like a champ.
Literally the second you turn the screen off...the phone sleeps...and stays asleep until a notification/screen is turned on.
FANTASTIC battery life due to this.
I mean...stellar battery.
Also, it's VERY stable.
No bugs what-so-ever...
My signature also has a DX specific rom install tutorial if you'd like a refresher on the DX.
The stock ROM isn't bad. We have a few users in my office that still use it and they have no problems at all. I like to flash a lot and I am currently on MIUI (ICS) but I am thinking about going back to Vortex. It is by far the most stable ROM I've found on the Droid X.
The best Blur ROM I flashed was Liberty 3 v2, great speed, battery etc. CM4DXGB is the best ROM I have ran, I have tried most of them and CM7 is my go to daily driver. Great overall performance, very fast, great battery once you get settled in and awesome customizations. I flashed it on my dads phone and he loved it, my Mom still has a flip phone! Haha

I wouldn't try liberty as a new user, there is a lot of customization that can confuse someone IF they aren't experienced. Apex has two days of battery life when calibrated so i would choose apex. no bugs and incredibly smooth!

I am currently using MIUI 2012.2.1 after trying liberty and one other. I really like it, but as is expected after rooting, i want to play around. Although after reading your post, not so sure. MIUI really is great. I can go 2 days without recharging if i shut down at night. I did manage to get into a boot loop requiring an SBF etc. This was traumatic, but now i know how my phone works!
So I would like to try CM7. I downloaded the latest for the Droid X. I guess MIUI does not let rom manager install roms so i have to use clockwork. No problem. Is there any thing i need to do special since i am on a 2-init rom? Do i just do a dalvik wipe, then install the zip?
