It doesn't mean that really, and its not correct, the writer is being over simplistic, and there's no way to know which version was used, since the only difference is the supported spls and phone models.
What you DO need is 2.08.hspl, and it makes no difference whether you use HSPL2 hspl3 or hspl4 to set 2.08.hspl, since all three versions load identical code to the phone.
For simplicity use hspl4

T-mobile HTC HD2 Android upgrade attempt.
I have the T-mobile HTC HD2 Windows mobile phone, and have been trying to upgrade to the Android OS. So far, so good, but I seem to have hit quite the wall.
I have an SPL 2.08, and it keeps telling me i need to downgrade to an SPL 1.42.0000.
Now, ive noticed everyone has been saying that SPL 1.42.0000 is not isolated for singular download, but whenever i download this package thing, it only lets me download spl 2.08.
Am very interested in removing the Windows OS, and attaining the Android OS.
Can someone help me?

Are you perhaps trying to use HSPL (version 1)? That is the only HSPL version that requests for spl 1.42.0000. Just use HSPL3 and is works perfectly even on the 2.10.0000 spl and will also work on the 2.08.0000 that you now have.
As an aside, if you have a radio higher than 2.08.50 then you do not even need to install HSPL for Android to work (although it is recommended that you do). Radio 2.10.50 and 2.12.50 are those recommended as best for Android though.

Need help with ROMs

I have just used the DFT tool to hack my TMO HTC HD2. Now I can't get any ROMs on to the phone. Please help!
I am assuming you mean you have installed HSPL....which version did you install 1.66HSPL or 2.08HSPL ?
What exactly are you trying and where are you stuck now ?
I loaded the 2.08. I have the TMO Leo HD2. I just can't figure out how to load the other ROM's on my phone.

just saying '2.08' isnt enough, , did you choose 2.08.0000 or 2.08.hspl in the dropdown list?
If you chose 2.08.0000 that is stock spl, and wont let you flash custom roms. Choose 2.08.hspl
Also,. are you aware you are in the normal hd2 section? DO NOT flash roms you find in this section till you know what you are doing.
Bookmark and get your roms from THIS section.
Sorry I'm a noob to this stuff.. I did load the 2.08.hspl onto the phone.

HSPL3 released

Sweet!
So if we already have HSPL on our HD2, would there be any benefit in loading the new one?

nah, not really. its gonna give you the same 2.08.hspl whichever you use. This is more to cut out the downgrading step.

no, cos you already have spl 2.08.0000 so hspl1024 already works.
this is just an update to the installer so that it works with all model hd2s, and all spl versions, with less options to go wrong.

yep. works on spl 2.08.0000 and spl 2.10.0000 so no need to downgrade.
You can only choose 2.08.hspl or stock 2.08.0000 though, cotulla decided its safest to just offer the one spl fits all.
Should work on pretty much every hd2 out there.
so for everyone that keeps asking is it needed to switch to HSPL3 if you already have HSPL_1024 the answer is no.
If you were on stock rom 2.13 ( which the phones ship with this now) your spl would be 2.10.000 so if you wanted to HSPL before you would have to downgrade your rom to 2.10 which would give you a SPL of 2.08.000 but with this you will not need to downgrade which gives you less of a chance to brick your phone.
wouldn't an HSPL 2.10.000 offer some performance benefit?

What DLL ?
"the" does not tell us much ...
Everything you need should be in the zip
timeout usually caused by using usb slot in pc casing or hub.
you should use one around back of the pc.

[Q] how to downgrade: 2.08 to 1.42?

I wonder how you could do this because I cant find an answer how to
Download HSPL2.exe, you can easily select different SPL/HSPL versions, including 1.42 versions.

if your phone is a tmous, then STOP. tmous cannot use spl lower than 2.08.0000
If you are following instructions that say you must have 1.42, thats really old information.
What you trying to achieve? maybe we can help.

HTC HD2 Question

I just bought my HTC HD2 so I'm a newbie so my question is Why is there Hspl1 Hspl2 hspl3 hspl4? what is the need for 4 of them? Can anyone help me with this please.
The phone's BIOS allows you only to upgrade the ROM (operating system) with a newer version of the same of the one you already have installed. Thus you couldn't flash a custom ROM or even the standard HTC ROM if your phone came with an Telecom Operator branded ROM.
Why the different version of HSPL? They are developed up on the SPL that the phone came with or that was flashed with (as part of an official ROM update).
The main reason for different versions is the phones and stock spls that each version allows
Hspl regular and telstra with spl 1.42
Hspl2 regular with spl 1.42 to 2.08
Hspl1024 tmous only with spl 2.08
Hspl3 all models, spl up to 2.08
Hspl4 all models, all spls.
Ohh ok thanks alot for the information
So when I put my proper HSPL on my device I can install any custom rom too my phone?
You can use any Hspl for any rom, they don't have to match.
The exception is 3.14 roms which must have 3.03.0000 or 3.03.Hspl
If you are going down the nand android route, you must use 2.08.Hspl
It doesn't matter which version of Hspl.exe you use.
2.08.Hspl from Hspl2 is IDENTICAL to 2.08.Hspl from Hspl3 which is IDENTICAL to 2.08.Hspl from hspl4.

Yes and no.
Sometimes there is no need of HSPL.
Some custom roms don't need the presence of HSPL.
It depends on your desired custom rom.
And additionally, if your desired custom rom is not based on STOCK ROM 3.14 you don't need to install HSPL3.03 with HSPL4.
Personally I'm using Artemis on my HD2 without HSPL.
These are new for me, now i knew about HSPL too, thanks for everyone.

AFAIK STOCK ROM 1.66 as base and HSPL2.08 for MAGLDR.
I don't like to test WP7 on my HD2 because of the limited functionality at the moment and I'm very satisfied with Artemis.
So, to be sure have a look on HD2 Windows Phone 7 forums.

it would have been a nice idea to mention not only that you don't really need HSPL, but also exactly how you got like that without HSPL, for those who haven't heard of SSPL or Goldcards.

no custom winmo rom requires hspl, hspl (sspl, goldcard) are only required for the actual flash. Once the rom is loaded it will continue to work regardless of whether the spl is spl or hspl.

Maybe you are right and I wasn't precise enough.
I'm using Artemis ROM and there is no need to install HSPL3.03 or using a goldcard for flashing the ROM, if you can download STOCK ROM 3.14 from HTC homepage by entering your serial number or from your provider's homepage.
If there is no STOCK ROM 3.14 available for your device then you have to use HSPL or goldcard.
First you flash STOCK ROM 3.14 with its brought along installer and then the custom ROM (Artemis) with SSPL. Both from homescreen and your HD2 connected via Active Sync or Windows Mobile device center to your PC.
