Laggy music? - Galaxy 3 General

Does anyone else find that trying to multitask with music playing makes your music choppy? Has anyone find a way around this? I'm using krillos 5.7 and power amp.

Yeah..Even am facing the same problem since the past couple of weeks.
Though am facing the problem with the stock music player in Indroid 4.3!

It could be a problem caused by sdcardspeedreadingfix, which has a bug that causes struttering on videos. Never heard of it causing lag on music, but you could give it a shot.
1. Download SD speed boost
2. Open it
- Move current value to 128 and save. Make sure it has changed to that by re-opening the app.
- See if music lags now.

I just flashed the pre-release fugumod kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134369 and it solved this problem. turns out it was the kernel xD. I just did a full titanium backup while playing angry birds AND music on poweramp and no stutters at all.

Update on this: it appears that today while at work I discovered that it was not even solved on using stock JPQ with this Kernel, and now I know why...yesterday I was just using music through speaker and running stuff...today I was at work using bluetooth headset to lisen to music and the skipping has returned! Can anyone else confirm this?

i have sennheiser ears and sometimes when i am doing alot my phone gets laggy when listening to music and sometimes (not often) it laggs a littlebit). I'm just using kyrillos 5.7 with stock kernel and stuff. standard music player.

I had the problem when I first got my Galaxy 3 last week.
Only did two things:
1. Bought a new MicroSD card
2. Updated to JPM
Problem solved.
Never had any skipping again.
And that's ALL i did.

Wich class of sdcard did you buy?

Found A workaround, using titanium I uninstalled all the system apps I don't use and integrated all the things I do use into the rom apart from games so I would have more internal memory space. Disabled apps2sd and now no skipping! It was indeed my sd card being weird. I guess I'll have to use the apps2sd app from the market to save space now.

Even though it is resolved for you, let me add this as a reference for others.
I've also always had the Audio-Skipping problem ever since I updated from 2.1 to 2.2 (via Kies back then, so everything was stock). I tried pretty much everything, eventually I just gave up on trying to solve it. I had also advanced to using custom ROMs, including some like Dharam's (Ulta-)Clean, which essentially have everything non-essential stripped already - no success... I also was on Kyrillos and InDroid.
I don't have a high-end sd-card, but it's a class 4 @ 16 gb so it's not THAT slow either (it does about 5.5 mb read & write). But since this isn't exactly high-performance I never used app2sd (or link2sd or what-have-you), but I doubt that would've made a difference...
I (finally!) got rid of the issues yesterday, even though I wasn't even trying: I tried out the latest FuguMod Ultra kernel to improve performance and battery life (which it did) - mostly for the new & improved governor "SavagedZen". It runs perfectly at full speed on my phone and the audio hasn't skipped a beat since I installed it. I know this won't work for everyone as overclocking to 1366 MHz isn't stable on every phone, but I suspect that that kernel will improve on these audio-skipping-issues even if you set the max speed to something like 800 (which to my knowledge doesn't cause trouble on any phone). You still need to get it to boot and let you into SetCPU to do so though I guess...

i tried fugumod 2.4 beta3 (standard) yesterday and it finally fixed this problem...

Music player problem... Music skipping and clipping...

Hey guys,
Has anyone noticed that when playing music in the vibrant that their songs skip or cut out for a split second like 3 or 4 times a song? This is driving me nuts as I use my phone to play my mp3s in my car every single day and its very noticeable. I have tried other players like mixzing and same thing...
I have owned a bunch of android phones and haven't had this problem on any others.
Thanks...
Oh I should add that I am stock 2.1 with ryanzas oc lag fix but a friend of mine is still stock and experiencing the same problems just not as bad.
Ive noticed the same thing. Mostly when a notification or call comes in but sometimes when nothing else is happening. Yea really annoying.
My phone is completely stock except for being rooted.
It also happens when wifi is turned on when wifi is off it doesn't happen
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I've never had this problem but I have experienced "the beat" being extremely loud and the lyrics being too soft, its a hardware problem, if the headphones aren't plugged.in the exact way, this will happen. Perhaps this is what is causing your problems as well, also this should be in the Q&A Section
I get a small skip every couple of songs using MixZing. I have Wifi off, so that's not the issue for me. I don't really notice it. Is your music on the internal or the SD card?
I have tried both the internal and a couple external memory cards...i actually swapped my vibrant at t mobile today to see if a new one would help...the new one does it but not as much. However given how much I use my phone for music its enough for me to return and go back to my android hd2...i like this phone better over all but music is pretty much number one cuz I am a musician... I tried lowering everything on the eq to the bottom...didn't help... Seems like an issue like you might get streaming pandora, where its running out of buffer so to speak...weird.
Wifi on or off and other stuff like syncing off doesn't help either...also have a task manager that will give me 200 mb free ram that doesnt help either.
sorry for postingin the wrong section btw
I would think this is fine in the General area.
fliplovin', when you talk about the EQ, do you mean in MixZing? Because the EQ in MixZing tells you it will cause high CPU usage, so I would turn that off completely.
no , there is an equalizer in the stock music player under settings... it allows you to not only do preset values, but also custom channel per channel... it also has effects like arena, and wide... etc..
i have tried EVERY setting possible... i am now about to flash a custom rom and see if that helps...
one thing that seemed to help temporarily was to use the system manager and close everything leaving me with 200 mb available memory and turn the eq all the way down, however, that made my max volume quite a bit lower... not exactly what i want to do.

You ever get this figured out? its been pissing me off really bad as of late. I want to keep the phone stock, but i would still like to know if flashing to a new rom helped
the only time it's skipped for me is when installing apps etc..
This same thing happened to me when I had Weather Widget installed. It seemed that every time it would try to update, the music player would skip. Using fancy widget now and never had the problem again
Music player and Google Listen both stutter a bit for me when playing a large file (over 5mb or so) and it tends to stop after the first 30 seconds. This is when wifi and gps are turned off and my phone isn't doing anything.
I did a clean flash today to JFD, then JI6. I noticed while listening to music on the way home from work tonight, there was no skipping in MixZing. I'm only doing the "/data/data to NAND" hack.
Do any of you have battery widgets/Accurate battery mods?
They can cause skipping and choppiness throughout the entire OS.
I had the same problem. I had world Analog and digital widget installed. I read on the T mo forums about some clock widget causing it so i uninstalled mine.
No more problems with the music.
I also use "Zimly" for audio player.
For Acurate battery info i use "MiniInfo" its not causing any problems.

[Q] Music Player Skipping

Recently I noticed my Fascinate would skip constantly while playing music - like every 30 seconds maybe even more often. For me, the mp3 player is one of the most used things for me on my phone. I don't want to double fist a phone and an ipod or something if I don't need to!
After looking back I realized that although the problem was recent I had been having minor skipping for quite a while - but not often enough to really take notice. Anyway, when it finally started skipping all the time I couldn't stand it anymore.
I've done a lot of searching and testing with this issue and have resolved my problem.... sort of. Lot's of people seem to have this problem and others don't...
So, it seems a lot of times widgets can be the problem. So after uninstalling "battstat" the skipping went down to 1-2 times a song... Hooray? Still less then ideal - I shouldn't have any skipping! Then I got rid of "beautiful widgets" and that minimalized the skipping even more. I finally got rid of "widget locker" while I was at my widget uninstalling spree. So far NO MORE SKIPPING!!! Hooray! ... ...
BUT
This is less then ideal. Many people have perfectly working music playback AND have all their widgets. I on the other hand, it would seem, can only have widgets OR flawless playback - not both. Say it ain't so Joe! Is my phone just one of the flawed, I should return this because all hope is lost, phones? Or is there still a chance to get this phone working like a charm?
Seems like a software thing to me though which should suggest that my phone itself is ok... otherwise playback would be constantly bad... But I'm no IT person so I can only make educated guesses based on limited research really.
Anywho, I guess I'm just reaching out to the community to see if anyone has any idea on if I'm screwed and can no longer have my widgets. Or if there is something else that can be. Hotfixes? 2.2 fix?
I've very sad about my very plain looking phone right now. =( To a point that I have actually stopped stalking the forums and finally posted something...
EDIT: Not sure if it really matters but I should just note. My phone is rooted, de-bing'ed, de-bloated and of course has clockwork recovery. NOT de-odexed, NO voodoo or lagfixes, and NOT running any roms (just used Titanium Backup to freeze all the bloated stuff) - waiting for 2.2 before I start getting really deep into phone fiddling.
Thanks,
-Andrea
Yea same for me. I deleted Battstat because Winamp was skipping. Sad to remove such an awesome widget.
I too have had this problem but haven't been able to figure out what is causing it. I noticed that if I load a rom and wipe first it starts doing it, but if I start with my stock backup and load the rom without wiping, it doesn't do it. I actually returned one to the store for this issue. Do you happen to have anything on your sd card that you had on another phone? I have a theory that had something to do with it, but I have nothing to back that up with.

No, my SD is clean from any old phone's data. I was having playback problems on Pandora as well. =/ Also tried all sorts of different music players but they all skipped just the same.
Been playing around with different widgets... Beautiful widgets was causing problems but I put it back on for the 3rd time and my phone is happy... for now at least (knock on wood ). The two main culprits are Battstatt (MAJOR ISSUES) and very sadly TypoClock was causing problems too (not nearly as bad as battstatt but problems none the less). With these two widgets removed I've had almost no skipping. Think I heard 1 during my 30 minute drive home (yay traffic!) - which could have just been the phone lagging b/c of an update or sync or whatever.
But this still leaves me with the same issue. Basically there is just a band-aid over the problem. But why are only certain phones doing this... and more importantly can anything be done to have a happy phone - widgets, music, and all?
At the very least, I hope this thread has helped or can help others who have been having problems with their music playback.
I've noticed this when frequently flashing ROMS. I have concluded that following these steps fixes the problem. Disable voodoo(if applicable) restore original mbr. Odin all the was back to stock after backing up everything wipe data/cache and load the ROM of your choice on a clean slate and then restore all and problem should be fixed. Worked for me. Music playing skip free.

It seems to do this when there is an app poling for data.

Same thing here. Removed TypoClock and it went away. It still concerns me though.
That's weird. I have both Typoclock and Battstatt on my Eris and music plays awesome. Lag can't be a problem with this issue. Just my 2 cents.

[Problem] Choking music playback

Hi guys It's probably my first issue thread on this board, but I cannot get past it, no matter what I do.
See, at the beginning, when I first installed 2.2 ROMs playback was ok. Then new version of winamp came and some mp3s had a doubled first 0,3-0,5 sec. It didn't bother me much, but then it started to lag in the middle from time to time.
Now, it's not ROM related - I got this error in miniCM (all versions since beta 2), floyo 0.20 and now in elelinux 006a. It also shouldn't be card related, since in the meantime I formated it, put the songs again and even defragmented it. I can't remember if I ever tried to playback on any 2.3 ROM But I might try it if it's relevant to anyone.
It also isn't app related. I lags in winamp and mixzyng, in playerpro it was horrific really, as it was constantly whistling and crunching, as if I was playbacking from old vinyl. The only app that seems to have no issues is poweramp. I'm considering the purchase (in a month, no need to hurry ) but is there any way to fix it for other players?
I believe it could be the related to the sdcard speed fix... But I'm not sure of it... My card is class 4 Kingstone 8GB. Phone is OCed, but I had this issue long before any of doixanh's modules appeared.
Up. Is there no one who even experiences the same issue?...

Lenovo K1 JB V5

I would like to put in my 2 cents on the JB V5 by Krook1. I have installed the ROM and have to agree with others, my Bluetooth will try to turn on then it will shut itself off again. Also as a side note I had Conde Nast "Wired Magazine" working on khanning official ICS 4.0.3 ROM and now it will start but crash on JB V5.
Keep up the fight for the best ROM possible since Lenovo left us high and dry.
Do you know if it has the same app compatibility Khannings recent ICS rom has?

No it doesn't. I'm finding all the apps I normally use but the model number is "K1" rather then "Xoom"

Right, several people now are reporting the Bluetooth problem with v5. Not sure what would have changed to make it break between v3 and v5, because it doesn't look like the changes were in that area. Otherwise I'm very happy with it -- hope the fix is something simple!
Regarding compatibility, I haven't found too many apps that aren't compatible, but some (Amazon Mobile, for instance) have not been compatible since the K1 came out, and still aren't.
Hi
Sorry i am not sure if this is the right place. I've also have v5 an bluetooth isn't workin. But i have a bigger problem(for me) i can't start youtube over the app icon. After googeling a while i find out that i can start over the widget but cannot access the startpage.
I already tried a reflash of v5 and also deinstalled / installed youtube a few times

The YouTube app seems to be running fine on my tablet with CM10 v5. I assume you mean you're having trouble launching it from the standard YouTube app icon in the launcher, but it seems OK to me. Have you tried going into Settings->Apps, finding YouTube, and deleting the data and cache?
I see in the development thread that krook says he will be looking into the Bluetooth problem (Thanks, krook! :good. Let's hope it's an easy one.
Is anyone else experimenting with the Overclock kernel? I've tried running at 1.2GHz, and it seems to run smoothly, without any glitches, but I'm a little afraid to push it up to 1.4GHz.

I've been using it all day at 1.4ghz and its been fast and smooth! Hasn't even been getting hot. I'll probably take it back down to help save battery life and take it up when I need the extra power boost.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to give it a try. I'm not sure if it would be easy to tell if the processor was getting warm. Based on some teardown pictures of the K1 I saw, it looks like the processor is on the side of the internal circuit board that faces the screen (essentially, it's sandwiched in between the circuit board and the back side of the screen), so it probably wouldn't be easy to tell if it's getting hot. Still, it doesn't usually stay at peak frequency for very long, and even at 1.2GHz it's pretty darn zippy!

Is your Bluetooth working on your 3G version of v5? It appears that Bluetooth is broken (won't turn/stay on) in v5 for most of the WiFi tablet users. I assume you're talking about tethering via Bluetooth.
Speed up your startup time
I posted this over on the Lenovo forums, but thought it useful enough that it might be worth repeating here:
===============================================================
Useful tip I discoved today: I noticed that my tablet startup seemed to be taking a lot longer than it used to, so I did some investigation and found that a process called the Media Scanner that was eating up a bunch of CPU time during system startup. It turns out that this process scans all the folders on internal storage (other than hidden or system areas) and on the external SD card for any kind of media file (mp3, pictures, movies, etc.). I had a couple of large folders of files on my external SD card containing app backups from Titanium Backup and a previous backup app that I had used, so I realized the scanner could be taking some time to go through those folders.
Well, it turns out that if you put an empty file with the name ".nomedia" (note the initial period) in a folder, then the media scanner will skip the scanning of that folder and all of its subfolders. And sure enough, after having put such a file in several folders that I knew contained no media, and rebooting, the boot process (i.e., the time until all apps are loaded and stable) went much faster.
I assume that many people who have done these ICS/JB upgrades might have similar large backup folders for their apps, so I thought this was a tip worth passing on, to speed up your startup time.
I find the CM10 rom to be the best of the lot. I am using V5 and before that I tried the official Lenovo roms but it was unstable.

Agree. Krook has announced that he should shortly have a fix for the Bluetooth issue introduced in v5, and with that, I think this will be the "complete package".

Bluetooth audio skipping, whats the culprit?

For some reason recently anytime I play music through my bluetooth car audio tracks will start skipping. I dont mean skip tracks like from song 1 to song 2. I mean more in the sense like the music gets garbled and loses time.
My music is stored on my sandisk 64 gb sd card. Ive read that these have a high failure rate.
It wouldnt make sense either though because when my music was stored on my internal memory, i remember it happening as well just not as often
But the wierd thing is, it happens sometimes, other times it wont happen.
Could it be my ROM? Im on hyperdrive 6 at the moment.
Any info is appreciated.
Same issue for me. I used several BT devices just fine but had Isimply BT installed in car and it's doing what you described. Can't figure it out.
Sent from my SM-N900V using xda app-developers app
After researching this it appears to be a generic issue with Jellybean that affects various devices. Google implemented most (if not all of the bluetooth stack) in 4.3, so it seems like they unintentionally introduced this bug in the process.
There are a few workarounds you can do that helped my EVO LTE with this (which is running 4.3). Disable WIFI and if possible, keep the device from going to the lock screen with something like NoLock.
More info.
I am running clean rom. I stream music in my car everyday and havent ever had this problem. Maybe try his rom if you are rooted
