They do. The blog article is probably wrong. Though Sprint may work with Samsung on radio firmware.

That was my thought about the rumor. It didn't make sense considering an update to 2.3.4 would come from Google. But, it seems that the signal issues are directly related to the 4G radio or its accompanying firmware.
My guess is that Google would need to work with Sprint and possibly Samsung to address the issue.
The whole reason I purchased the Nexus S was the updates for the OS would come from GOOGLE not Sprint. They did mention in the article that radio sucked and was testing it. I am not sure if 2.4 would drop our way or not. I am coming from an EPIC. The updates were far and few. They were real buggy also. Great phone but the last 2 months developers for the EPIC dropped like flies.
The article clearly is misinformed. The update will only effect the radio on Sprint's side and Google would send their part as 2.4. Now, unless their tipster is completely off, this would be the only "collaboration" Sprint and Google would have. And Samsung... I'm not sure what they are supposed to do. They made the device. What else can they do?

I doubt a bug fix for a single device would merit a full .1 version increase. But who knows, maybe they don't want the phone OS to skip a letter before Ice Cream Sandwich. 2.3= Gingerbread. 2.4= Haha, Jk.

Sounds like they are working on a driver fix to push out with 2.4 os only thing is that 2.4 won't be out until late august at best. They'd going to be googles biggest os push to so many devices. The nexus and some dual cores will see out first then the test of the dual cores maybe some high end single cores will see it up to the manufacture if they put it out our not.

I think its the SMS fix
damage referenced an update in a few weeks. im quite sure he knows the factual release date of 2.1, but cannot tell. if we know not to expect a major update from damage for a few weeks, we can assume itll be after the official update.
the mr is probably for the mms issues or something we read in that memo? idk...dont be expecting 2.1 though

Yeah I wouldn't expect anything in the way of 2.1 just yet. When I had a blackberry they would literally release like 5 or more leaks before the actual update. We've had 2 so far that I know of.

I'm following the Sprint forums and they're saying 2.1 update will be out by the end of the day.
I learned not to count on anything when it comes to "release" dates for roms/upgrades. If something comes today, awesome. Otherwise whatever, I'm rather pleased with my 2.05

LOL Bastards!!! Its funny, I took the test and passed everything for the Rep position here in Rancho, but for some reason they never call me back. LOL They probably get scared when they see I worked for Verizon and at&t. LOL
the admins on the sprint forums already stated (many times) that the 9th was a date provided through false information. in other words, the mom people had pics of, was wrong.
I don't even think Dan Hesse knows when the update is, lol

Vince, different areas have different requirements, but I know that Verizon where I live will rarely hire someone with prior cell phone experience. They want to brainwash you with their ways and methods, for the most part. Not sure about AT&T, when I interviewed with them, I was so turned off to their practices, I pretty much told them I wasn't interested right then & there. Never expected a call back, nor did I want one. Going back to Sprint this week, so my sources will be in full effect, I'll see what tidbits I can get you guys.

I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless Customer Service. I was questioning about setting changes to improve my signal strength. She said there was nothing she knew of. I then asked if she knew if the 2.2 update would bring with it a new baseband to improve the signal strength. She then said, well it is available for download, go ahead and download it and see. However, I am not in an area to do that. I am in Central Ohio, so I really have no idea if it is truely out or not!

It's been said multiple times in the past month that they will be coming out in November.
This from Samsung USA's twitter as well - "yes. all current Galaxy S phones in the USA will be upgraded to Android 2.2 this year."
Actually I'm pretty sure that it W's confirmed that the particular comment you are talking about DID NOT apply to the variants in the states. However I was just being sarcastic anyway. It doesn't really matter to me at this point as froyo from Samsung is literally going to suck ass because the one thing that kills these phones is the one thing a firmware update wont fix, and that's RFS. Anyway, good day sir. Hope you are correct, that way we can get some good froyo ROMS rollin
Edit: actually, I don't recall that anyone anywhere has stated specifically that our phones will get it in November. And I am positive that u will find nothing specific to the fascinate. Anyway. Not flaming, just stating the facts.

"The Galaxy S series will be getting 2.2 Froyo in November, starting in Europe and over time pushing west." - Not sure if this includes the US, but I assume it does. Paraphrased.

True. And this is all moot speculation anyway. When Froyo was debuted at I/O, afterwards Google tweeted about the rollout occurring over the next few months. less than 15 hours later I pulled down a rooted OTA courtesy of Cyanogen. lol.
It should be sometime between now and Christmas.

it would be a huge victory for Samsung to pass on froyo and release GB within the week. It would catapult them past HTC and motorola in the significance area of Android development. I think they need to do this if they want to regain lost respect.
Since Nexus S is galaxy S with GB on it already and is basically 99.9 the same as our phone, I definitely think it's doable. I would definitely prefer gingerbread. I want it just for the newer copy/paste feature.
God man, all this misinformation. Let me clear it up for you. We are most likely NOT going to skip froyo (2.2). Gingerbread (2.3) has ALREADY BEEN RELEASED and it is on a phone called the Nexus S on T-Mobile USA. Honeycomb (2.4 or 3.0) is for tablets in its current form. Man, this getting ridiculous.

The reason there is such a delay this time around has to deal with the fact google has removed the support from cdma devices officially. This means in order to supply updates, we have to wait for sprint. Currently Sprint is bitter about the who deal. We are the ones who will suffer in the long run.
Same for why the gnex for sprint isn't out quite yet.

The release was pulled from T-mobile and never existed for AT&T. So unless you are saying those are CDMA carriers as well, your theory makes no sense. All 3 device types currently are waiting for an ICS update. Google is surely working to make that happen. But Sprint isn't holding up the release (at least not yet) because it doesn't even exist. And Google removing CDMA from ASOP has no bearing on the speed at which they provide the update. The process is the same. The problem is the lack of understanding of why CDMA was pulled from ASOP and the sensationalist articles spewing incorrect information has probably confused you.
Tired of waiting..

I guess you work with stuff on a daily basis? This is a google phone, if you don't think GSM variants are not affected by google move to drop cdma support your mistaken. There is alot more that goes on behind the scenes the push code > compile > update. Countless documents, this need to get removed, shuffled and put back into order once again. Instead of google being about to push updates with the help of carriers, google and the nexus s is now fragmented. To ensure a proper release cycle it will take longer then expected. Pulling a phone from official support isn't like dropping your kids off at school.

Actually, Google didn't drop support for the CMDA variants except in ASOP. So there is no change in the way they rolled out updates. So you are saying they pulled the buggy release because they anticipated dropping CDMA months later? I guess the AT&T version didn't get the release in December because they were dropping CDMA support several months later? I feel like you are drawing conclusions that aren't even there.
