Hi,
I have just bought a HTC HD2 from T-mobile to realise I can't upgrade the ROM through the official HTC website.
I would like to know from Virgin Costumers whether they have tried to upgrade the ROM of their HTC HD2 through the Official HTC website and whether it worked.
I am asking this because I am still on the trial period and also because of warranty issues if I try to upgrade trough another route apart from the T-mobile's...
So, the question is...
Have you got a HTC HD2 from virgin? Have you upgrade the ROM through the HTC website?
If it's vendor locked you'll need to flash HSPL to install a stock or custom ROM...see this thread for details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
If I do install another ROM they say I loose the warranty...
As I still am in the trial period I could just return the mobile. But for this I need to know whether the HTC HD2 from virging is also branded or not... So I can go and get one from them and do the upgrades myself through HTC website... Withought loosing any warranty.
You can revert back to the original SPL/ROM if you need to return it for any reason...
As for the Virgin HD2, only way is putting the S/N into the ROM download page on HTCs support site and see if it allows a download. If not, it's locked
There's at least a dozen of threads about it. Don't be lazy and use search!
You won't loose the warranty, you can flash the phone back to it's original state in case you need to send it back for repairs.
You can download the original T-Mobile ROM from in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 so you can always go back if you need warranty work! I was reluctant to flash, but I did it from the original T-Mobile ROM and it has transfromed my HD2... I'm using MIRI 6.5 ROM and it is awesome, fast, stable, more RAM (with the right radio) and best of all, Youtube... GO ahead and do it. You think the HD2 is good now, wait until you unleash some of it's real potential....
Yes, that is why I am asking if there is someone who is a virgin costumer to help me with this...
I need to know if they have tried and what the outcome was.
About the warranty... The problem is that if I upgrade to another ROM and the mobile has a hardware fault that doesn't allow me to downgrade to the original ROM I suppose I would loose the warranty. This is a risk I may not want to take...
I have been talking to the tmobile technical people a lot after I realised I couldn't upgrade to a new ROM via HTC... Very annoying to know it is not possible whatsoever.
and as proof, I flashed mine back to the original ROM earlier this week. Search the ROM forum for posts by a member called 'football' who posted links to the TMo UK ROMs.
The flash back to the original ROM worked just fine, BUT it's a rubbish ROM so I'm back on 1.66
lol @ everyone pushing for the HSPL option, , , , lets not forget you cant uninstal HSPL if, for instance, the sd card reader has failed, , how would you get that fixed on warranty??
I'm not knocking it, HSPL is the first thing i did, just pointing out that restoring the warranty isn't foolproof.
in this post here a virgin user claims the phone is unlocked to the HTC website.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632892
I didn't want to cause such turmoil...
Just want to know, from a Virgin customer, if they have managed to install the ROM update through the HTC website... if when they add their mobile serial number they are given the download option or they are barred with this message: "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
Thanks guys for the help
My son is on Virgin and his is unlocked out of the box I'am on T-Mobile (locked ) ) I am still deciding whether to update to one of the new roms on xda del. or hang out for an official rom from T-Mobile. Which I believe will be released soon with a big?????.

I had a flash fail this week. When I started the phone it booted to a black screen with some sort of warning triangle. Somehow HSPL had been removed in the botched flash and the SPL was back to 1.42.000, so putting a LEOIMG.nbh on my SD card just resulted in a 'Not Allowed' message being displayed.
However, I was still able to reflash the original TMo ROM from my PC via USB using the exe that you can find on the ROM forum. I would expect that this will only work with the exe for a ROM issued by your network though, so make sure you have that saved before you flash anything.

No doubt you flashed an official rom from the sd card, that is the only way HSPL can be removed. I really really advise people against using sd card for anything except your phones original rom. So easy to make an error.
Virgin UK HD2 is unlocked
I am a Virgin UK customer and my HD2 is indeed unlocked. When I first boot I had to select Virgin Mobile from a long list that included all the major carriers. I have no problems in updating ROMS. Their customer support is without doubt the best I have ever experienced. I do not work for them. My brother is with T-Mobile, his phone is locked down with Crap software. I am SOOOO glad I am not with them. Just check their forums. They are still on ROM 1.43 from october... no YouTube... other stuff missing and buggy... Disgrace.
Original poster: if you want the phone on contract from T-Mobile but unbranded, you could buy it through some third-party mobile-phone store chain like Car Phone Warehouse or Mobile Phones Direct. Their phones are all unbranded.
If you want to install the HTC ROM without using HSPL you could always use a gold card to flash it.

I must agree with the above. I am with T-Mobile, got my HD2 at the end of January and it had ROM 1.43. They also stripped out YouTube and Co-Pilot! I downloaded a poor-man's version of YouTube as discussed in other threads (i.e. using the IE browser on the phone to download the cab file) and thought I was cool, but with T-Mobile taking an age to release the update ROM (I have heard March, but I wouldn't hold my breath!) I decided to use HSPL and update to 1.66 from the HTC website. Best decision I made!
Not only are all the little bugs fixed, I know have the 'proper' YouTube app back (beautiful!), Co-Pilot (trial version) plus a Windows Task Manager app (very useful!).
I did alot of reading before taking the plunge though, and made backups of backups, had a roll-back plan (admittedly untested) and followed each stage implicitly! But it was very striaghtforward due to the guys on this forum doing a fantastic job!
I never made one call on my T-Mobile HD2 before I flashed over to stock HTC ROM.
Years of HTC devices and operators ROMS told me not to wait until later!

I did exactly the same!
As soon as I turned it on and saw that horrid T-Mobile logo, I turned it off again and flashed it with the HTC WWE Rom
I have an HTC Magic running Android 1.6
I would like a newer version, 2.1 or 2.2, however I am aware that Vodafone AU will not be releasing any updates.
Could anyone please point me in the right direction to get a ROM upgrade?
Please bear in mind I am new to this and do not wish to brick my phone!!
Thanks
Steve.
By the way... I am now downloading the official HTC Magic ROM with Sense using a serial number posted in these forums.
Given this is not strictly for my phone, although it is still an HTC Magic, will this ROM work? Is this safe to install?
A long time left on my download before I can give it a try...
Thanks, Steve.
Update
Hi there,
did you get anywhere with this? How did it go? I am in the exact same boat as you, but am not sure how to go about it since htc dont provide an update for the Vodafone branded devices. I believe this is because of the Google logo on the back, and google thinks we shouldnt have sense if it has their logo on it.
Anyway, if you could let me know how you went with it that would be great.
Thanks
A few people have bricked their phones doing that, not a good move.

hmm, i say dont do it...
Hi, appolgies for being completly stupid, If someone can help me i will be very grateful!
I have an orange network locked hero. After getting tired of waiting I attempted to debrand by installing the generic HTC rom ...
RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver
With the idea of installing and letting the OTA update occur...
So i installed goldcard tool created and image. and then installed the htc image.
2.1 is now installed but have the network locked message.
I considered trying to unlock via one of the vendors on ebay, but decided it probably wouldnt work so decided to roll back to the orange rom.
By mistake I ran this update which i believe is the HTC 2.1 update
RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R_Radio_63.18.55.06P_6.35.15.11_release_signed
Now when i try an run the orange uk 2.73.61.66 release I am getting an error message 140 bootloader version error.
The phone isnt rooted, is there any way I can roll back or unlock 2.1. Am i going to have to call orange an confess?
Please help!!!!
Leigh
There is a STICKY at the top of the G2 Hero Development section called Villain Roots 2.1 RUU,.. tried that?

By doing this would it allow me to reflash the original orange image?
Sorry for being dim, finding all this a bit confusing!
root it via that guide, put in a radio that works with orange sim cards, and you should be good to go
Use this guide: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=2096
Once done you can reflash the original official orange release.
Apologies for being thick...
So I have gsm root running, phone in recovery. What do i do next?
Do i have to flash the rom on using nandroid - never used this before.
try this method - its easier
tinyurl DOT com/3242ljv
you'l need to remake the link as newbies cant post links
Tried the simplified version.
When I try and run the zip file it says it cannot open the file and says it is bad.
Tried a couple of times and with both orange updates..
Arghhh!
Try using a different SD card - hboot couldn't find HEROIMG.zip on one card, tried another and hey presto!
Well in the process of trying to get the orange 1.5 build back on i have got 2.1 working!
Tried flashing an older radio on there and gues what it works. I've now got the standard htc 2.1 build on an orange uk contract, network locked handset.
Quite pleased with myself!

Hi,
Please could you give us the radio version you installed, and how you did it. You'll find the version under Settings > About Phone > Software information > Baseband version.
Many thanks,
The radio version i'm using is
update-hero-radio-63.18.55.06_6.35.05.15-signed
I tried the one before that also which worked.(Basically I started from the oldest one and worked my way up)
I tried the two most recent ones first and these didn't work (Network Locked)
Hope that helps
I've noticed Orange have started rolling out the preupdate, think i might as well stick with the htc build.
Cheers
Hello,
After all the carry on people are having with getting FroYo on there debranded handsets, I'm chucking in the towel and going to install the Vodafone Rom.
Does anyone have a link to the Rom that was released last month by Vodafone?
Many thanks in advanced.
I might be wrong, but i think they've released OTA update only, not RUU.
There's a french RUU lying around somewhere in the dev forum...

ZTE Blade will soon celebrate it's 1th birthday and there is still no official update to Android 2.2. So i'm asking: when it will be finally finished? I really can't stand 2.1 (especially a think, that i cannot save my apps on memory card). I know that it was released in Finland, but why there? Why not for exaple in UK (only it may be in engilsh)... I'm really sad about this. So, does anyone know when finally there will be official update?
sorry for my bad English..
thanks, mirko185
With the price being so low in the UK I have my doubts that 2.2 will get released here.
Can someone please point me to a guide on the official 2.2 ROMs which I assume can be installed.
ZTE has released Froyo kernel(2.6.32) source code for the Blade... Check "System Equipment" under front page top "Support" link.
yes, I've already noticed it, but it doesn't helps me anyway... And they have so slow servers, and really non-systematic website..

well, I'm from Slovakia, so I don't know from which from these page I should download it, and, of course, I'm really happy, finnaly it's here! I only want English version, and it should have every of these roms, isn't it?
and, thank really much!
I tryed the Hungarian T-Mobile one, but unfortunately it didn't work for my device, it says that my device has another version. I think it's becouse of my phone is from Slovak Orange. What a shame... :/ But at least I can believe that Orange is finishing their ROM, if T-mobile already has it done (I hope).
thanks anyway.
I have a Spanish Version of the ZTE Blade that is running 2.2. I backed up the rom before I installed a custom rom so if anyone wants a copy of what was backed up by rom manager then let me know and I will see what I can do...As far as I can remember my Blade is version B10. Hope that help someone.
Hi could you post your back up. I don't need the data.img

edit: to get this working I downloaded this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.apedroid.pigfish to make sure my device is gen1
I then downloaded this http://www.wuala.com/peanut_hu/OSF_Blade/ROMs/fonix232/T-Mobile_HU_memory_fix_ROM which is the gen1 t-mobile hungarian eclair rom, you extract this and place this on your blade's sdcard, so sdcard/image/
turn your blade off, hold down volume + and power button, and the blade will flash the eclair rom, after this you need the above t-mobile hungarian froyo rom, http://www.t-mobile.hu/lakossagi/keszulekek/szoftverfrissites/telefon/zte_blade_2 , start your blade in FTM mode, hold volume - and power on device, flash from windows. Let it complete to 100%, all done, now running an official froyo rom
GREAT!! I gonna try this out right now!
edit:well, i relazed my blade is not rooted, so i cannot flash eclear ROM.. is there another way to install this eclear?
edit1: well, I managed to flash the hungarion officila om from T-mobile, but I can't start the phone cousa it's asking me code for unblock networks.. I try to search this out, BTW, If u did the same thing as me, do u have this code too?
The network unlock code is unique for each device.
You can get your code to network unlock your blade for free by typing your phones IMEI number here: http://arrtoo.x10.mx/unlockBlade.php
'Arr Too' over at modaco is hosting this for the blade
My blade has been network unlocked from the first day i got it

yop, mine was unlocked too, but when I flashed a T-MOBILE 2.2 android, it had locked it.. but I unlocked it and everything works like a charm..
