i have contact with Stream TV Networks, Inc!!!

title says it, i have a direct line contact with a rep at Stream TV Networks, Inc, the manufacturer of the Elocity Tablets. a few weeks ago i submitted a web inquiry to the support site, stating that i was a user here on the XDA Developers site, and that there was progress being made to better the tablet. i asked that someone take the time to atleast visit this site and if willing to lend us a hand in uncovering the 'mysteries' of the tablet. i didnt hear anything and really didnt expect i would, until earlier today... i got a mysterious call on my cell so i let it go to VM, and forgot about it until just now. i listened to it, and low and behold it was a rep from Stream TV, saying they got my message, and was also visited by someone from XDA while at CES. now im in SW Florida so that visitor wasnt me, but someone out there face to face dropped the XDA sites name.
now i personally am a beginner rom cooker for windows 6.0 thru 6.5 at best, and android is still very new to me, but i would hate to lose this potential contact. im willing to do the leg work, and guess i might need to learn more very fast, but if a developer would like to work with me, and i can get them in contact with the Stream TV rep, maybe we can knock down walls here....
forgive the grammatical and spelling errors, but i need to get this to the community asap

im planning on calling the rep back tomorrow, and find out what he is all about, and how he can help us...
are there any educated questions that might want to have answered? that will help the community improve this product...
its even possible that since they are fully aware of us (XDA) they might even be watching the threads....
imagine, if a new vendor were to actually join the forum and help the community, just imagine the possibilities...

so it appears that i now know who 'the guy' is that met with them at CES...

I'm the one who contact them, I told them how great this site was and that Dexter should be sent a free Tablet to better and to provide him a job with the company to better this device as they are brand new in the market, I also advised they needed to create forums as this site was the only way of knowing what was to become in the future of the tablet. If i wasn't for XDA people wouldn't even know about it.

It seems a few of us met with them at CES 2011. Which is good. I talked with a few of their staff including the head software engineer there. Like I said, I got a real sense that they are going to work out the kinks that exist in the eLocity A7.
I brought up XDA and that there was work being done on that side and that it was important they didn't abandon their FIRST device as the new ones come out. It would be similar to what Augen did. The eLocity A7 is still ahead of many tablets coming out with its Tegra 2 processor so their is no reason for it to be left behind as if it were obsolete. They did say several updates were still planned for this device.

I wrote to tech support a week ago, never got a reply either by phone or email, and I just got my RMA to return the tablet. There's just so much aggravation one can take in this life.
If they keep up with this forum, they could at least provide some kind of firmware info, even if it's not a commitment. Like most techies (which I've managed for 30 years) they're wholly uncaring about the user experience... but the marketing people should know better.

I completely agree. Their tech support so far has been somewhat lacking. I remember calling a few weeks ago to get more information on the firmware patch they released and the "tech" literally went to website and read verbatim what was on the screen. I was like, "I can read the website too thanks." Her response was literally "yeah sorry we don't know anymore than what you do." Yeah....I understand they are a brand new company and are looking to launch a whole slew of new tabs so their focus may be a bit off but they shouldn't forget those that had enough faith in them to invest in their inaugural tablet.

"Lacking" is a mighty nice way of putting it. I would have said incompetent! Heck, they've done more harm than good with all the misinformation they have provided since day one!

didnt get a chance to talk with the rep until today and heres the highlight of how it went:
Q. why was the google marketplace not installed from the beginning.
A. google was not at the time signing off on tablet machines, thus no digital signature to access the marketplace.
the lead tech for the A7 has informed the rep that GAPPs can run on the tablet, and acknowledges that we appear to be weeks ahead of them with that...
Q. will honeycomb be offerend officially for the A7 when it comes out?
A. for the current version of the A7, no. there are hardware limitations that will not allow for a fully functioning upgrade. if we can port over honeycomb we can and a limited function version.
Q. will the A10 have honeycomb?
A. not initially, but it will be upgradeable officially. and the newer versions of the A7 will be multi-touch and allow for honeycomb.
he acknowledged that their tech support at this time was indeed struggling. they are still working on firmware upgrades for the current A7, and they dont want to force an upgrade everytime they fix something, but rather in patches...

i did ask about some of our other issues such as trying to get clockwork functioning, and our troubles with apps like skype. although i did not get an official stance on how far they are willing to help, he did say i could pass his information along to some* of the active developers to help imporve the product... ive already sent the info along to Dexter, we shall see what happens there.... during our talk i was also informed of some other info that might hep explain our skype issue.... ill fill in that info into the skype thread....
i also expressed my disappointment in the face that GAPPs was not there from the get go, and had i been a common 'plug and play' user, this thing would of gone back immediatly... but i had faith in XDA...
i did encourage them to become active in this thread and let it be known that the manufacturer is truly here to help...

I don't understand why the A7 was launched, then improve upon the next release after many have purchased the original A7. Many purchased the device around their mis-leading hype. I'm not completely dissatisfied with the device, but it would be my last. I'm hopefull some bright enterprising soul will look at this device and squeeze out what ever potential it has.
If the updates are only to fix what should have already been the box, then what's the use? A real update will exploit features and hidden potentials in the device that people want. This would speak volumes to their future and the future of products offered. Two cents worth.

i was not thrilled either hearing about lack of 'official future' for this device... but for $300 it did come with some powerful hardware, solid build (minus the multi touch and unlit buttons)... for what we have now (modification wise) i do feel better about my purchase... i just hope theres more improvments that we can squeeze out of this before the next generation comes out...
also mentioned about some of the lost features after the first update, like loss of sd-card formatting, and why they chose the mounting methods they did with sdcard and sdcard-0
im still using 1.0c version and havent looked at the 1/15 elocity or 1.1 dexter update yet...

I'm of like mind here. I've got a few more days before I need to request and RMA from tigerdirect.
For the most part, this device meets my needs, but the simple fact that elocity can't get simple 2.2 features implemented properly (like apps2sd) is ridiculous. They can't even get the device to report the size of the SD. The screen (even without the multi-touch issues) is pretty horrible. Web pages look ok, but photos look awful.
I'm bummed. I want so much to like this device, but its got a few too many disappointments. Maybe I'll get the Archos A70 - or even the Nook color (is it the same 800Mhz processor in the new Evo Shift?). Not quite as powerful, but much better SW implementation.

Sadly, I feel the same. Hardware wise the A7 is amazing, but lack of true multitouch, not so great viewing angles and most important, no future upgrade path is doing it for me.. I will also be rrturning it to BJ (with the extended January 24 return). Elocity can't complain we didn't give it a chance..

I HAD an Archos 70 for a little over a month before the screen broke on me. Those tablets are so thin they tend to be dangerously fragile. In addition, the firmware Archos has put out is terrible, still no certified FLASH from Adobe, and like the A7 almost every good App has to be hacked onto the tablet including the G-Apps package. Also, the A70's performance (only 256 RAM) was sub-par, it would often freeze, reboot, or lag far beyond what I've seen with the elocity A7. Since I loaded Dexters rom, I have been quite happy with my A7, and would not recommend any Archos product to anyone beyond the Gen7 A5 which runs Android 1.6 (donut?), but has a great DVR/TV dock, but obviously does not do Flash. I will say Archos has a larger community, but hopefully XDA and Stream can build on this product and its capabilities.

Please tell to Stream TV Networks about GPL
Let they post kernel sources, like bigger companies did and we will have ability to improve some functions with custom roms

I moved on from the Elocity A7, got a Viewsonic G Tablet. Its $379 and with kernel source code the devs have made some great roms. Only negative is the screen.

I moved on from the Viewsonic G Tablet to the Elocity A7. I found the screen and the skin on the Viewsonic G to be unusable. The eLocity with the Dexter mod is a much better tablet.

From their FAQ page:Q: Will Android 3.0 Gingerbread be supported on the Tablet?
A: We anticipate that the Tegra 2 processor should have the ability to support the future Android release, but we cannot confirm it until Gingerbread has been officially released.
So is multi-touch the limitation that won't allow Honeycomb to run at all? I guess I can't understand why multi-touch would be absolutely necessary to navigate an OS. I thought when Google made a big deal about the upcoming Tegra II tablets being their design standard, that the processor is the critical piece, which would make sense to me. But multi-touch? I'm going to be really upset if I have to switch tablets again. I guess I'll wait to see what the big deal about 3.0 is when its released/reviewed before I go to Craigslist...again....

I had both before returning the A70 because I couldn't put up without a USB-to-computer cable connection.
I felt the Archos 70 was nearly perfect (light and stylish), but the 256MB RAM kills it. It'll get progressively slower.
The Nook is a great device. I loaded the mod and it was virtually a full-functioning tablet with a fantastic screen and sweet to hold, but the lack of real functioning Android buttons makes navigation possible but awkward. If B&N releases 2.2 and all its goodies, it's a good unit at $249.
For now, I'm tabletless. I'm amazed to me that designers have not started from a list of desirable features. The Nook is really designed as an e-reader and it's a great device as such, but the gTab (which I also returned), A70 and Archos all left out critical features that would have been cheap and easy to include...

Why early adopters get the shaft?

I have been trying to stay positive but recently I got interested in these tabs. I hqve gone through three different modelw so far and I really like my a7 but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth when in a montha time mybrand new device is obsolete and for only $100 more I can get the newer version of this tab which should solve all the shortcomings of the original device.
Why can't they have just come out with their newer models first?
Now as a customer I feel cheated. I think in this case they should have really reduced the retail price or offer existing customers an option for a small fee of $50-$100 to upgrade to the newest base model $50 for the new 7" or $$100 for the larger screen.
That way the company would be offering a fair choice so existing customers do not feel leftout in the cold. It would go a long way when I upgrade after the honey starts to flow.
As it stands now a lot ofthese tablet companies are giving android a bad name by producing products with outdated versions of android with no supported upgrade path. It is deplorable and deceptive to me. I finally found a good device I thought would at least last a year before it was obsolete. Now i find myself in the same position again. I am hopeful that at least if I do not get an offer from streamtv they will actually do their best to keep the a7 relevant and current.
If they do read these forums it would be great if they responded and made a similar offer.
I love my a7 but I paid more for it than I was going to do because 3.0 was coming out so soon. I took a gamble with the elocity a7 because I heard this device would be able to support Honeycomb and i paid the extra money for that reason and now bcause it does not have true multi touch screen it may not work???? Hopefully theywill support this device and figure outa way get the latest software. I mean what good is new hardware if the software can't make use of it?

I feel the same way "cheated". Thats how the techno world works though. Always chasing whats news. Here i am thinking ive got a awesome new device one day, and the next wishing i would of waited. Very upsetting.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed about the (supposed) lack of 3.0 support, but I got mine for $300. When I see the pricing of these newly introduced tablets ($800 for Xoom?!) I know that I would never pay that. I'm betting the LG tab will be similarly ridiculously priced, and the only other tab I would consider is the $350 Enspert Identity Tab E201U, which still hasn't shipped. Elocity had to cut corners somewhere to make the price-point. Even though they bet correctly on including the Tegra II (which 3.0 is optimized for), they really had no idea at the time that Honeycomb would require multi-touch. It's a shame, but I can't fault them. I'm still betting on XDA figuring out a way to put 3.0 on the A7...that is IF Elocity will release GPL. That is where we should concentrate.

I hope Stream gets things in order for this tablet, oops just does't go over well when folks spend 300 bucks on your product. I beg them to be responsive and not go technical dodging in regards to what the A7 functionality was meant to be. Dexter is saving their bacon with his mods, the techy types would be mauling the A7 on these boards without the hope Dexter brings to this tab.
Fix your rep Stream by making this tablet worth the money in the experience because, great hardware that runs little of nothing is a waste.

Seeing where the SGT Dev community is going (nowhere).... I am thinking of selling my 3 week old SGT for cash and saving up for the wifi-Xoom. Anyone in the same boat.... or can rebut my opinion.

I've had the same thought, but since my GF got it for me for X-mas, I'm gonna keep using it, and give it back to her when I can afford a XOOM

I got the tab in January and so far other than gaining root haven’t done anything else with it, the mobility factor is a big plus no question about it, but then I got the xoom on launching day and now I really like them both…so if or when you do it you will appreciate the differences.
I think the Devs have nothing to do with your decision.

I really like the form factor, but performance is an issue with my tab. and with the dev community not really huge, i feel left out of so much with all of these honeycomb tegra2 tablets coming out. I just really feel that Samsung really jumped the gun with the tab. releasing it with no hopes of any real update. Then pretty much rubbing it in our face by releasing 2 more tabs that are far more superior. makes me feel like i made a bad investment by falling for their trickery.
Maybe SGT 8.9 if released with similar specs as of the xoom. and reasonably priced

The tegra processors and Honycomb make our tab look outdated already but IMO the differences are not that big unless one expects too much from a tablet; is not going to replace our laptops yet…as for sami updating my hopes are nonexistent. I was in Germany recently when a saw the tab of a friend of mine, phone working etc I turned green . My biggest beef is with the carriers here in the US that crippled the device.

tegra 2 isnt a device without their own problem
like not able to play 720p mkv movies unless it converted on a specific format
that would be a problem to some people
and is there really a lot of app that dual core ready anyway?
afaik, for normal process, only 1 core would work unless there's a need for the 2nd core?
jumping too soon on honeycomb with limited apps wouldnt make that much of a difference either

if it took months, who knows we already got honeycomb or ice cream on the way on our tab?
honeycomb, i doubt, but the next generation for smartphone definitely gonna be ported to our tab IMO
my main interest in this tab is phone capability, so unless there's another contender out there, i'm still gonna keep this one

I'm trying to see what trickery Samsung have fooled you with here?
The 7" Tab was sold as an Android 2.2 device, with no promise of a Honeycomb update, and that's what they delivered.
We may, or may not get an official upgrade, which may be Honeycomb, or perhaps Gingerbread, but the Tab is still a very capable and useful device as is IMO. I do believe that we will at least get an unofficial Honeycomb ROM once the source code drops.
None of the upcoming tablets can replace my Tab because they are too big for my purposes, though I may end up getting a bigger tablet purely for home use.

For me its all about size, the 10s are just to big to carry around comfortably. Might as well continue to carry my Dell mini9 laptop. I dont require much from my tab maybe thats why Im happy with the 7.
Remember no matter what you buy it has a good 6 months of obsolescence built in

I think most devs wait for the honeycomb source... no one wants a broken sdk port on an expensive device...
As soon as HC hits aosp I'll contribute developing.

And the xoom community won't move very fast with development for the first six months either. And with that price, probably not much development after that.

Agreed. The xoom may be "developer friendly" but it is way too expensive to mess around with.. the galaxy tab gets cheaper and cheaper and will attract more devs too over time.

Why are we comparing the Tab and the Xoom? Two totally different niches. Anyone buying a Tab should know what they are getting, and most that do are getting them for a reason. 7 inches, and a solid product with the full Android Market without having to push it onto the device.
I have three different 7 inch tablets right now (had a 4th, but the Dell Streak 7 is dismal) and the Galaxy Tab is BY FAR the best of the three. The NookColor is fun, and is running dual-boot Honeycomb (port from sdk) and froyo. It's overclocked to 1.1Ghz and is primarily used by my wife as an e-reader (which is what B&N intended), though she likes firing up Angry Birds, etc.
The Archos 70 Internet Tablet is running 2.2.1..and is slim and can handle just about ANY media thrown it's way. Archos is a leader in Media devices, having created the HDD portable Music player before anyone else (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archos)...including Apple. It's hands down the best for watching movies. However it's flimsy and buggy...Archos sucks at support, truly. Plus, there's not much in the way of accessories for it. I had the 10.1 also...but sold it.
My Tab gets the most use...as I swap my phone's sim into it quite frequently. And it handles pretty much everything I want it to do. Out of the 3, theres no comparison as to my satisfaction.
If I wanted another 10" Tablet...and wanted Honeycomb right now, I STILL would not get the Xoom. I can afford it, but that doesn't mean I want to plunk down $800 on something obviously rushed out of production. Too many things wrong with this early adopter device.
Here's to hoping the incoming 8.9' Galaxy Tab has some of the kinks worked out...cuz I'm gonna pounce on it right away. 10.1" prolly not, the form factor just too large for my usage.

If you bought a tablet based on the dev community then you were wrong to do that in the first place. You buy something for what it is, not what it may be based on some random people messing around with roms.
I can't see how a 10" Xoom could possibly be a replacement for the 7" SGT. One you can carry around with you, use in your car, act as a backup phone, and the other is mostly a stay at home couch device. Personally I think the Xoom is a bit of a let down on things it should be better at - like playing high bitrate movies. SGT blows it away on that score. The SGT build and screen is also very high quality. As good as my iPad 1 (which I've not really touched since the SGT came along. Never mind how I've come to despise the Apple lock-in methodology...).
Honeycomb looks like it will be a great update when the bugs are ironed out, but Froyo (maybe Gingerbread soon) on the SGT currently makes more sense as the device really is closer to a phone than a tablet (and I'm personally happy that it is). Ice Cream Sandwich looks like it will be the natural OS upgrade for this device, as it will combine Honeycomb UI changes with smartphone functionality. Whether Samsung will release it for the SGT in the coming months is anyone's guess, but for now I'm rocking the Tab. For a couch device I'll see what the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is like (hopefully they'll find a fix for the video snafu), but none of the Tegra 2 SoC based tablets are wowing me at the moment.

Lol...not mine, she's become a gadget snob. Though she won't admit it, she's glad to be cutting edge. I see it when her girlfriends drool over the cool gadgets she totes around, lmao. We'll go get coffee, and she will look to see who noticed her pretty NookColor while she's reading and surfing the internets.

So you're selling a device because people aren't modding it? IMHO that's a ridiculous reason to sell this amazing piece of tech.
And im guessing one main reason is Honeycomb because, lets face it, its what everyone wants in a tablet. Then why not buy a Nook? You complain lack of development, the Nook Honeycomb port is better than anything they'll ever do with the Xoom.
Still, just my opinion. I'm keeping my Tab until it dies, then ill get another one.

and..truly one of these days someone WILL put out an Android device that doesn't need modding! Might be 3 years from now...with 8 core cpu & AirWave connectivity (5+TB wireless connection passed through our existing electrical cables that are strung on the poles...or passed through now vacated VHF / UHF signals...yeah, I can dream BIG!)

But you will only be able to get 3g data or 2g+ voice.

Is Xoom the tablet for me?

I am not currently a tablet owner. But I'm constantly trying to watch for the tablet that meets my needs. I feel those needs should be met before I can consider dropping money on a product that I will only need to upgrade within a few months if they don't.
I loved my ipod touch, and when my cellphone died...iphone was a no brainer for me. But when I view the ipad, I see nothing more than a larger ipod touch. So for now, it's been scratched off my list of potential tablet options.
Features I believe to be important to be considered a tablet that suits my needs:
-expandable memory
-customizable UI
-ability to attach usb devices (usb sticks, extrenal HDDs, etc.)
-file management
-ability to transfer data on/off device without the need to use syncing software
My research leads me to believe that the Xoom has basically achieved my list of requirements in full, except for point#3. As far as I'm concerened that could be rectified with little more than a micro usb to usb converter cable when/if one ever exists. So thats truly a minor concern.
My primary uses for the tablet would be:
-reading epubs
-music
-video
-email with hotmail and gmail accounts
-browsing web
-doc/pdf management and storage
Additionally, because I work in a tech support environment I would love:
-an app that I could use to scan whatever pc I'm attached to for system specs and what not. (I figure if any app store would eventually get this, the android one would, if one doesn't already exist)
So with my needs in mind, it seems to me that the Xoom qualifies. Which is exciting. But I read alot about new tech before I ever jump blindly into it, and am concerned that android 3.0 is still too infantile. This conclusion is solely based on posts from various forums of people experiencing issues with the OS, sluggishness, etc.
Is this the case? Having had no real experience with android based products, I don't know what to expect in the near future or even further down the road. Should I wait for the next honeycomb upgrade? Should I jump in now because things aren't as bad as some people make them out to be? Am I right to be cautious? Or is there a device out there that suits my needs listed above that I'm unaware of?

The xoom is a great device. I do not regret my purchase one bit And it will only get better. Not to say that there is nothing out there currently better, but i dont think there is any device that i would switch my xoom for.

The xoom is a fantastic tablet and honeycomb is certainly full featured when compared with its iRivals. But there is no denying that Google couldn't release a new version of android soon enough for me. Too many force closures and reboots without warning. So close to being fantastic. And its getting lots of attention from the devs on here so some great kernels to try.
So in summary, great tablet. Great xda support. honeycomb released in a hurry and needs a new bugfix release despite showing great promise

So what is android's bugfix track record? Good/bad? Am I better off waiting on honeycomb 2.0 release?

I own both a Xoom WiFi and a Nook Color. The Nook Color with the official 1.2 firmware will do everything on your primary use list out of the box for much less. Of course, the Xoom will too and a whole a lot more.

the developers are doing a terrific job with the xoom to make it a worth while tablet, but you might wanna buy it from Costco since they have a excellent return policy, just in case something better comes out you won't be comitted to a $600 purchase.

Yeah id agree that bigrushdog and the others are doing a great job of filling the gaps in the current kernel with their cooked replacements for rooted devices. Hardware wise the xoom is second place to nothing at the mo. With USB, hdmi and microSD it's missing nothing. Ok, it's not an ips screen but the one it has is very good. If you're thinking of waiting it's only worthwhile if you're gonna wait long enough for quad core tablets. Probably a long wait. If you reckon you'll jump on board with the xoom when honeycomb is patched I'd say you might as well not wait and get one now. The update will come eventually and there is plenty to enjoy in the meantime. It's only the occasional app closure that spoils the party at the mo.

Well, I plan to head down to bestbuy after work today and make my final decision. If I do come home with one today, should I be changing up the kernel? And can I reset back to factory if I do and decide to go back?

Really like the the looks of the upcoming Toshiba Tablet with the replaceable battery & built in usb. so at $600+, might not want to get locked into the xoom at that price point just yet.

There really isn't anything I don't like about it. I have had a couple issues with the browser closing (like 2 times in a month, and only when I am running multiple flash intensive sites). The speakers are nice and loud, the screen is really beautiful - no matter what people are saying.
Get one - you can always wait for the next best thing, but then you'll be waiting forever. Like I said, I hummed and hawed, but took the dive - and I am in love with my XOOM.

If I were you, I would spend a little time getting used to the device before rooting. After you have decided that you really like it, like me, then I would root and flash a custom kernel.

I literally just got home with the Xoom, and read this..... /facepalm
What was crazy, was they had 2 demo models setup at bestbuy. One of them was working flawlessly, with seemless screen transition. And the other was lagging upwards to 2sec response time on screen transition.
I've yet to unpackage the xoom....now I must consider whether or not to take it back and wait for the toshiba.

Now, I didn't try a XOOM so I can't say this for sure, but looking around here it does look like the Tegra 2 can barely handle 720p video. If that is important, the Galaxy tab ( not the crippled WiFi only one) is better since it reads 1080p at really high bit rate. Like 40 mbps.

Seems the toshiba tablet comes with full usb, mini usb and full hdmi. The back can be taken off to change the battery, or to exchange with a different color back. All very good additions....
However, the price is looking like it'll launch at $700 us for the 16gb model. And I think that might be the deal breaker for me. $100 more for a full usb port and half the memory, when I can buy a $5 usb converter cable. Looks like I will be sticking with the Xoom.

Don't know best buy's return policy, but Costco allows you to return it up to 90 days with no restocking fee. I returned the first 1 I bricked and bought another 1 right then without any issue, so I figure I can play with the xoom for 90 days & check out the toshiba tablet & maybe a few others within that 90 day window or maybe a price drop & not be tied down to the xoom just yet.

I have to admit I was skeptical about the xoom, I made the jump, used it for two weeks, rooted and custom kernal, and love it. It has quirks, bluetooth keyboard lag online, but really it flies. I read somewhere that there was an it applcation for android to work on network systems but I believe it was expensive. Wait on a cheaper version if you want but the xoom rocks.

Is $300 to $350 worth it for a 32gig xoom with new tablets coming.

I'm looking for a tablet and I see three xooms near me. One of them for $400 new, another $350 used and one for $300 used. Need advice.

Maybe if you prvide your location you will get better help? There was a special in Sydney yesterday for brand new Xoom for 298 AUD. If you are happy to wait I am sure by January next year all the tablets will come down in price.

JBQ stated that it is coming to the Xoom soon. Motorola stated that it's coming to the Xoom, but no time frame given.
It's coming; we just don't know when. I estimate Late Jan - Mid February.

The latest AOSP release included files for the Xoom, just give it a week and it will be in here...

I got dude that wanted $400 to drop it to $350 but I would rather pay $300 tops.

Keep an Eye on Woot. I picked up 2 wifi only's for $320 a pop in november.

Get a Quad Core Transformer instead (I am not Hating, I have a 32GB WiFi Xoom), but GED has held this device back. Still can't Write or Delete the SD Card without a PC, while other Android Tablets have been doing this since the day they came out. Google is Super Slow in allowing us GED Xoom owners Full SD Card Access.

*sighs* You can write to your SD card if you were willing to root. I personally bought my Xoom over a transformer, or galaxy tab or what have you because its a GED device. You know why? because I do not want bloat. I dont want touchwiz, I dont want sense, I dont want motoblur or any other modified interface. I wanted pure undiluted android with the lovely added bonus of being virtually unbrickable all while being unlocked.
I did not buy a xoom to remain at stock, I bought it to overclock it, to tweak it, To make the device MY device. As im sure a lot of other xoom owners did. This will probably sound harsh but it's not my intention; If you wanted to remain at stock, which seems obvious from your previous posts in another thread complaining about the very same issue your complaining about here, Then maybe you should have done your research and checked out competing tablets before making your purchase. I find i'm pretty happy with all my purchases because I do huge amounts of research to find the product that is right for me.
The xoom is an amazing device, We have a pretty amazing community here that will help you if need be, Thou I find most everything answered already. The developers we have are great. Team Tiamat for example make a flawless rom/kernel from my experience, limited as it may be. Its still great. I currently have mine with the moray 2.2.2 rom and odachi OC kernel and its extremely smooth, wonderful batterylife.. And relatively amazing. Being a GED device means its basically a developing template. You bought a GED device, because its a GED device and you're not taking advantage of the fact its a GED device. It takes longer to read the instructions on how to root then it does to actually do it. You will be MUCH happier with your purchase if you take advantage of what its capable of. Root it, rom it, kernel it. Do your research before trying, But if you do You will have a more plesant experience. You will be much more happier with your device. I personally used this thread and I can vouch for its accuracy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798 if you don't like it. Then simply return it to stock and you're done. There are more benefits to rooting a device Then their are downsides from what I've read.
In response to OP's question. I paid the current price on newegg (370$) and even at that price I am very happy with my purchase. If I could find one for 300-350$ I would buy it in a heartbeat for my parents. Now keep in mind the 370$ price tag is for a RE CERTIFIED xoom, Mine came with stock everything in the box. No problems what so ever. Soo if you were going to pay 350 for a used one, Splurge for the extra 20 to get a re certified product. Its very much worth that price in my honest opinion.

You see, I bought the WiFi Xoom the day it came out because of PROMISES & HYPE. You are partially right. I should have waited for the Transformer (at least I would have a working SD Card Write/Delete from within). I just feel I SHOULD NOT have to go thru the Trouble of Rooting to get what the device should do out of the BOX. That's why GED "WAS" supposed to be so special. To me it isn't.
I feel we were duped and I personally will NEVER get another GED device EVER again. Actually GED is holding back the US Xoom's. A very talented Dev has said as much. If you have ever been on the Moto Community Forums, Gmanapps (who created SDCARDXD) has said as much, and he is VERY Talented and Smart (not to say you are not, I just respect what he has to say on the issue at hand). To me these EXPENSIVE Devices should work out-of-the-box as my Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 does. I got tired of keeping up with Myn's Rom then Synergy. I jut want it to work Stock. There is NOTHING wrong with that, especially after the money we 1st Day Adopters paid for it.

Ohhh, I can understand why you're so frustrated now. I learnt to always take promises and hypes with a grain of salt. Just because people will say whatever it takes to sale their product. I just about always wait until something has all its bugs and stuff worked out before buying it. So I can very much understand your point now.
I personally will buy a GED device again, but my reasoning is because its unlocked. I very much enjoy hacking things to do more then they should, It extends the life of a product for me. Means I have to replace it less often. Which is a huge plus for me because I can be kinda cheap haha. I originally started my "mobile" carrier, so to speak, with iOS, its the openness of android that attracted me so much. I hate not having control of my devices. So rooting for me, was part of the appeal. No disrespect taken Because I can understand your frustration. The devs on here know alot more then i do haha. Maybe it has held it back, But at the same time in my eyes it's helped because of it being unlocked, it allows for an easier time developing.
Things should work out of the box I will agree with that, they really should. People shouldn't have to create apps to allow a feature thats available on just about anything that includes an SD card. Sometimes things don't thou, and I guess it would be googles fault for it not doing so since updates do come through them. I guess its because the tablet is kinda like the nexus program, Devices with the pure unfiltered android experience. I guess even the flaws of that "unfiltered" experience come through as well. Personally though, I would much rather adapt and find a solution then be unhappy.
If you ever do decide to give rooting/roming (is that what you call it?) a go. Def use the guide i linked earlier for as long as its still valid. The only thing that would suck is backing up your data before the wipe that happens when you unlock.

If you follow directions properly, most issues are avoided. And afaik, issues like no 4g or broken camera occur when you apply an unstable rom. Rooting simply gives you full control, that's all.

You are a cool dude, Thanks for the help. I have Rooted before. My OG EVO had Myn's Warm 2.2 , then Synergy. So I am NOT a Noob to Rooting. I just don't feel like following the ROM to Death like before. It gets old. I guess I will just have to wait until Google gets off it's LAZY ASS and gives us ICS. HC works fine and as for me, the Playbook and Galaxy Player are all I need for now. I have no more need for tablets and what I have will suffice for a long time.

I personally thing if u find a xoom has better spec. then another 10' tablet. it has 4g, duel core, and used ranged from 300 dollar. Samsung makes good tablet but right now still not really match xoom in price range. Samung tablet plus price is like more then xoom. xoom is close or less then this tablet. Only think i would consider is the old samsung tab 7 inch. becasue:

its got the longest battery life among current tablets and its the only one that does dualband. I have no interest in buying a non GED device. I want to decide on my overlay and I want the first updates. Google's updates are far more featurefilled than anything Asus will offer you in their overlay, so picking a non GED product makes no sense for me. Ill get a new one either after nvidias next Gen processor comes out in a year or if Samsung makes something with that awesome flexible display concept design they made (YouTube the commercial, coolest thing I've ever seen). The tegra 2 is not yet outdated. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, though

I bought a 4G LTE XOOM, knowing the Prime was around the corner... Mostly because I needed a tablet with its own dedicated data connection... Verizon has the best network and didn't want the Galaxy Tab or Xyboard. TP isn't coming out with mobile radios, so had to rule it out.
