Hii,
I have motorola milestone with cm7 rc10 on it , what are the advantages of making an ext partirion on the sd , does it increase the internal storage of the phone ?
If not how can I do that , cause as know the device has only about (if I'm correct) 250 mb of internal storage
This forum is for milestone 2

Hi all guys.
It's possible to increase internal storage on HD2??
Total space is 281 MB. Right now i have 20 MB. T T
Anyone suggest?
Thank advance.
Wath build or rom give you this free memory, try app2sd then uninstall some apps
Personnly 30 apps install with 190 mb free under android. All apps are in sf ext partition. Search on forum
Send from my hd2 Under android By Mdj build.
If you want more storage, you have to either buy a t-mous version or make a partition on your SD card and using a2sd. That will save the applications to your memory card.

Yes. Try a rom that has data2ext. It uses secondary ext2/ext3/ext4 partitions to store internal data.
Hi. Is it normal to have only around 20 mb of free internal storage with 16 apps (each is about 1 mb with cache included) installed (and about 100 on sd)? I've noticed that when I install and then uninstall an app there is less memory than before installing. Are there some temporary files which I must remove???
bump, this is important, please help...
USe ext partition.. means partition your sd and your file will go to sd partition. I have 200apps which is 500mb+, I have 91mb internal storage left.
(Partition work for rooted phone only)

Hi all,
Just after installing custom rom aokp on my phone, the /system was showing free space of 4 mb only (w/o installation of any additional apps). To install Google Now , there should be free space of atleast 90mb on /system.
Therefore, in a bid to increase the space, i got a 2gb external card. In one of the articles on net, it showed increasing the space on sd card (through SD card partitioning via Rom Manager). I though that this would make my EXT-SD a part of the internal storage and help increase the space on /system. However, after following the procedure, the space on my internal storage reduced from 1.7 gb to 480 mb while USB storage increased from 5.7 gb to 7.4 gb.While it did nothing to the EXT-SD.
Now can anyone please tell me a way to Reverse it and also how to increase the space on /system to install Google Now.
Apart from this i tried APP2SD to make space on internal storage (as it mentions "MOVE TO EXTERNAL SD") it also does not move the apps to EXT-SD, rather it moves to USB Storage w/o creating space on /system.
Please help.

Hello i have a quick question. The motorola atrix 4g advertised that it has a 16 gb internal SD but mine only says 10 gb total available memory. why is this? i know that you never get the full storage when it comes to flash storage like when you buy a 8 gb memory card but only get 7.6 gb usable but why 6 gb missing on the atrix. am i the only one?
That's correct. Of the 16 gig, system files take up a few gig of space. Without the system files, your phone won't work at all.

Please take a look at this list, then add up the sizes of all partitions there. What is the result?
You're right
Atrix is 16GB Emmc.
System partition use 6GB

out of the 16gb (which turns to be 16000Mb -15.6Gb- and not 16384Mb as it should be) about 2Gb goes to data partition, 600mb or so for /system, and the rest is on cache, preinstall, webtop, etc... the remaining capacity is what is exposed to the user as internal sd

oh ok.. thanks for the explanations and link also. it helped me understand. i always thought that the phone had a internal sd and system memory separated.. i didn't know it used part of the internal sd as a system partition too.. thanks again for the explanations..
I already partitioned my sd card months ago but this totally bothered me. I 2nd partition is 1gb and when i open settings->apps->manage applications, it still shows that my internal memory is only 190mb. What seems to be the problem?

You want to increase you internal storage?
Cant see what you want dude
Are you using any mods?

There is no problem here
use link2sd to mount your 2nd partition then you can link apps to free up internal storage so you can install more apps
your total internal storage will not increase - only available storage if you link apps to sd card that are currently on internal or have lib files on internal
on most deodex custom roms after you have installed around 80 apps you will have between 30mb & 60mb of free internal storage depending on the data & cache of apps

I know how to mount the 2nd partition. All i want is to see that my internal memory has inreased to 1.190gb. Because in task manager, it only shows that i only have 190mb, though i already partitioned my sdcard for 1gb.

I don't believe you understand what a 2nd partition is/does
your total internal storage will not increase - that's impossible without repartitioning the internal storage & taking space from other internal partitions which would be stupid as you would take space from boot partition
an sd card partition is on your sd card so you split the total storage of your sd card into two therefore your total internal storage hasn't increased - you haven't put a bigger internal hd in
your 2nd partition size is displayed in the info in link2sd
what it does is take apps in internal space & place them in the 2nd partition - it then leaves a link file where the app was so basically the app still behaves like it's on internal but it's not
No, i understand. Well, that would be all. No problem anymore.

using Link2SD doesn't increase your internal memory/RAM ... Link2Sd makes it easy for Android 1.6+ users with root privileges on their phone to move applications to the "SD card".

Do you mean something like this?

Its possible with amarullz script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309
Its a script that you put in your init.d folder.
But i cannot ensure that works on every rom/kernel kombo.
With hells fusion 50# kernel + evo x3 rom is it working (my daily use)
Want to see internal storage increase? Modify the ramdisk to mpunt the sdcards 2nd partition as /data and BAM there ya go

Yea, if your SDcard not partitioned yet, the rom will bootloop

If you modify the fstab correctly and make userdata at least 1GB you should be fine. I've partirioned my sdcard to use external sd, cache, system, and userdata giving me much more space to install roms and apps. I'd recommend a more powerful sdcard to take away the lag
