just got the Samsung tab yesterday and I noticed when I was setting it up I kept hearing a ringing sound every time i touched the screen. After I was done with the initial setup I was still hearing it. I then went into the setting and turned off audible selection and it went away, turned it on again and it came right back. Is anyone else experiencing this? can someone test this out and let me know so I can take it back if need be? turn the volume all the way down, turn on audible selection, put your ear near the speaker and tap anywhere on the screen.
Well I went to best buy yesterday to exchange the tablet hoping I just got a defect but when I went over to the demo table they had both white and metallic models and I put the speaker to my ear (because it impossible to hear anything in the store with everything going on) made sure Audible selection was Checked, tapped the screen and there it was on both models. The best buy employee head it as well and said "dude I don't know what to tell you" then just so happen a samsung rep was there promoting the tablet, he heard it as well and took my email address and said he will get back to me.
Can someone please give this a try and let me and everyone else know if this is a problem or the store just got a bad patch?
I think most people just don't notice it because they turn off the audible selection or the room isn't quite.
yea I noticed that too with my 32gb i picked up today but not with my 16gb i had since the 8th
I will confirm when i get home
EDIT
I just confirmed my first tab from the 8th (locked bootloader, white 16gb) does indeed have the high pitch noise
thanks for the reply, I guess they all have this issue. If the Samsung rep does get back to me (i wont hold my breath) ill post the outcome.
Do you think this can be fixed via update?
Other then that I love the tablet, its just the little things that annoy me.
I think it's the vibration motor for haptic feedback.maybe not
I know exactly what it is and it's not that big of a deal. It's the sound file for the audible selection. I turn that off to save battery life, anyway. As far as fixing, not going to happen.
I think the sound problem is on software side. As allready said i think its a corrupted sound file for the selection sound...
Is it possible to replace this sound file with a fixed one ?

Hi,
I just got a td2 and straightaway thought that the speakerphone sounded abit crackly. After showing a couple of friends and seeing what they thought they both said the crackling was abit weird but maybe the phone was just like that but im not entirely sure.
Does anyone else have any trouble with there speakerphone? When the volume is completly low it sounds fine, putting it up even abit causes there to be a small crackle when someone speaks (signal is fine and ive tried with a few of my friends).
I've got a 14 day return policy with this company i have gotten my contract from and its been 3 days now and i should be able to get a replacement but i dont want to send it off and them to say this is how its supposed to be. So is this a known cause or is there something that can be fixed or did i just get a bad td2?
Thanks
I have had it with my Touch 3G, before making a call i blowed in the speaker and it was gone.
My HTC Touch Diamond2 does not have that problem.
i had a very similar problem. the speaker worked fine, but when the voice hit a certain pitch level it would distort slightly, like it was picking up a vibration.
I sent it back and got a replacement, and the new one is fine.
Right thanks to both of u, ive tried the blowing thing already and tried again but no luck.
I think the problem is exactly the same as the u described adamrob69 but I just didn't explain it very well lol, so i've sent them an email and will ring on monday and get it exchanged, how lucky must i be to get sent a faulty one .
Thanks
dont worry, it seems at the minute theres a 50-50% of getting a duff phone. The build quality is slipping on these phones.
Im still not enitrely happy with the quality of my second one, but whilst everything still works on it im not going to go through the hassle of changing again!
I have same problem but with speaker at side, when phone rings the sound cracks.
So here's my issue.
During a call if i recieve a SMS/MMS/Email, my earpiece volume drops dramatically and i can use the volume rocker and put it too full and it still doesn't get back to a decent level.
So i was wondering if anyone else has noticed this and is having this small problem, other than that i am completely happy with the phone so far , haven't touched my iPhone since i recieved the Nexus One Jan 7th
P.S. i have SMS Popup app installed and same problem, so i have tried removing the app and still no cure
I haven't tried this on SpeakerPhone or BT Headset
I can 2nd this bug.
Along side, if you were to use any touch tone to send DTMF tones while on the phone (say you're entering your credit card or something), it also goes down real low. This is definitely a bug.

ya ....argh!!...hopefully a firmware update fix
I have experienced the bug as well...but what is even more strange is that if I get another text message or email and it causes the phone to vibrate the in-call volume shoots up even louder than it was before. I think it may have something to do with dual microphone and background noise cancellation this phone has.
No problem for me?
Just thought I'd offer some more input, but I don't think my phone is experiencing this problem..? I am currently on the phone with T-Mo, and had to enter numbers via the number pad while in the call, and the volume didn't adjust (neither up or down) at all.
I'm glad I found this thread. I should have read through all of the posts in XDA before starting a brand new thread about this. Sorry guys! I even have this issue listed on google's help forum with some ppl indicating the same. The call volume decrease for me when a call comes in. I have to put the phone on speaker, then take it off speaker in order to get the volume back to where it was. I use to have the volume decrease during an active call when a email or text comes in, but a small work around was to set the ringtone and notifications to silent in settings and in text and emails. Does anyone know if this is a software or hardware issue? or if there will be an OTA update to fix? This phone is amazing otherwise...I know there isn't a TON of ppl reporting this, so I hope google doesnt forget about us. I received a replacement that did the same thing along with new bugs the original didn't have, so I sent it back.
I have it also. Just thought it was me!
@johnboywilson, do you think google will come out with an OTA update for this? This is technically my first android phone, so im not sure how often they come out with updates, or if they get to all the issues no matte how few ppl might be having them. I had WinMo before, and they were pretty good at getting to bugs, sometimes even if just a handful of ppl have them. I had a samsung behold II for 2 weeks. I've only been using android for a little over a month now.
next time this happens will someone try swapping to speaker phone then back to handset and see if it goes back to where it was. I've had a problem a couple times where I couldn't hear the caller, switched to speaker phone, heard them fine, switch back to handset and the volume was back to normal. I honestly dont remember if I had received a notification at the time or not but I'd be curious to know if it is the same thing.
@zjchaser, if you had seen my two previous posts, you would have seen that I use the speaker phone on then off method to correct the volume decreasing when a call, text or email comes in while on a call. This is just a work around and not a fix. I need to know if we will get an OTA update to correct???
@Mrplennium I`m sure they will. if you go onto google support pages you will see what questions people are asking and what faults other people are experiencing.
@zjchaser I have had that problem too. If im on a call and i switch between speaker phone and handset the sound goes off. If i then make a new call the sound is still off and i have to switch between speaker and handset to get it to come back on!
Still love the phone though..
@johnboywilson, I hope you are right. I am one of those ppl that started a thread on the google forum about this issue, and others have been reporting it. I was just fearful that this is one of those issues that's in the minority, so google might skip over it. I hope that's not the case. Other than that, this is by far the BEST phone i've ever owned. I have no other issues with it.
I use the wired headset mostly, but I can confirm this as well. It isn't just another call or SMS for me that causes it...anything that adds a notification (SMS, plugging in to USB, email...anything!). The volume either goes crazy up, or crazy down. It seems to alternate.
It went down the other day after an email during a call, so I had to put the rocker all the way up just so it would sound normal. Shortly thereafter, I got a text and lost my hearing for about 10 mins...the phone can get very loud.
Seriously, this needs to be fixed.
Yup, it happens through the wired headset as well. I think it's def a software issue. Hope you have google people patrolling this site and seeing these issues as well. The first OTA update is coming this week, but for the 3G issue. No one knows what other possible fixes might be included.
Even received a replacement that did the same thing. Not sure why some ppl have working devices, and others have these software glitches. I doubt i'll ever be an early adopter again.
WOW! ok, after 3 preliminary tests, I can conclude that the OTA update has resolved this issue!!!!! YEEPEEE!!!!!!!! Now the phone is PERFECT! I will keep monitoring the situation throughout the day to see if it stays that way, which I can't imagine why it wouldn't!!!THANK YOU GOOGLE!!!!
it didnt fix the problem when i did the update, still have low incall volume
If you have low incall volume - rise it, or flash a kernel with volume boost hack. This bug has been resolved months ago. You're talking about something else.
Ok so its happened twice today. I was calling someone and it showed it was dialing and connected but i didnt have any sound from the ear speaker or the speaker phone. The 2nd time it happended it apparantly went to voice mail but i didnt hear anything until the voicemail said that i need to leave a longer message. Has anyone else had this problem?
Once connected hold the volume rocker on the side of the phone all the way up, aside from that I have no idea.
yea its wierd i know, i've called my wifes phone 10 times trying to replicate it but cant. but this morning it happened twice within 1 hour. i had to call back and then it seemed to work fine. hopefully its just tmobile being crappy and not my phone.
This is just IMO so there is no fact to what I am going to say. Myself, I think it is a HTC thing. My G1 did that all the time but when I got me a Cliq, I never had that issue again. Now that I have the N1 I have encountered this same problem again. It tends to happen more if you are in an area where is it Edge/GPRS.

I have experienced similar issues....For instance, I called someone today, and I couldn't hear them, it was weird...anyway, I got someones voice mail while calling them and it kept saying it could not hear me to record the message, LOL! I am striking it up to no being familiar enough with the phone or maybe my face hit the hold button or something on the screen, but I found it all strange. It's quite possible there is a bug or something although the touch screen can sometimes be touched by your face or whatever and put the call on hold by accident, etc. etc. Take a look at the on screen options once you make a call, there are many options including a hold button in the upper left hand corner which can easily be touched by your face, ear etc.
this is what the proximity sensor is for. it turns of the screen when it comes near your face.
Has anyone noticed that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 creates a white noise sound whenever the web browser loads anything [see edit below]? It is the weirdest thing - I thought I was losing my mind at first or spent too many hours listening to loud music, but it happens day after day, even after reboots and a hard reset.
EDIT: noise happens anytime audible selection is enabled in settings and I make a screen tap / selection. Thanks, jweather, for helping me narrow it down.
Go in your settings, sound and turn audible selection off by unchecking it and see if the issue goes away. On my model there's a high pitch whine or ring of some sort when the screen is pressed, turning off audible selection fixes the issue.
Please let me know if it works.
yEa there is another thread with the same issue, i noticed it on my 32gb i picked up today but dont remember it ever on my 16gb i had since the 8th. I will double check later at home
Thanks for confirming, guys. Will do some checks later tonight with audible selection on and off.

just wondering if this is a wide spread issue since we seem to be the only three that noticed it. I swapped mine out yesterday but haven't had a chance to check it, later today i will do so and let you guys know.

no there is at least 2 other threads regarding this topic. and I have had this on 3 different tabs that I have had in my possession
This is normal, unfortunately. When you have audible presses selected, it engages the sound mode and plays the .wav file. Once the file is done playing, it stays engaged for a sec or two later before turning off.

Very interesting. Was able to replicate the behavior you are seeing by testing with and without audible selection. Sure enough, the tab makes the high pitch noise only when audible selection is toggled. When it is off, it does not make the noise. This happens regardless of volume and I noticed the noise will occur outside of the browser too, so pretty much anytime a selection would normally play a sound. Only difference for me is that I can't trigger the sound by simply touching anywhere on the screen - for me it has to be when I make a selection and activate that click tone.
Has anyone else noticed the earpiece speaker rattles/vibrates during calls on their Note 4? Its not terrible, but its defo noticable and really annoying. I expected a perfect new phone. Was wondering if this is a general issue before I swap handset?
I havent noticed but could it be the camera module, hold phone close to ear and shake gently, same noise?
I'd say go for a replacement, mine does not make any obscure noise, my 1st note 3 however had an obnoxious vibration from the speaker.
Looks like I will have to go for a replacement I think. Theres no sound coming from camera. Thanks for the suggestion though. I even tried taking the back off the phone to see if it was that vibrating slightly, but no different. Tried pressing against top part of pbone too as thought this may firm up any loose parts, but had no joy. Its a pain as just set all settings as I wanted and really wanted to avoid replacement. Oh well lol. Thank you for your reply, appreciated!
Finally managed to change phone after store got new stock in. Turns out I had a faulty handset. New one is perfect, no unwanted sound from earpiece at all!
