Hi, I've recently bought a HTC Magic and since then I've been reading into how to root my phone. Before I start I would like to know if it's possible on my phone.
Details:
HTC Magic Vodafone Uk (32B)
Hboot: 1.33.0007
Firmware version: 1.5
Build: CRC24
I've read from a thread in another section of this forum
that it would be impossible because of 1.33.0007 being a perfect spl BUT my phone is running the firmware version 1.5, with a CRC24 build. Would this mean I will be able to root my phone or not?
Also I've been reading up on how you either have cupcake or donut. My version is 1.5 so would that mean I have cupcake?
I'm worried that I might brick my phone so would prefer to use the one click tutorial at theunlockr (would add link but I can't) which is for htc magic running on cupcake.
Would it work?
Sorry for all my questions and I probably will end up asking more
Thanks if anyone can answer these for me!
You should be able to root using the relentless rooter or by following the guide on the unlockr. You are lucky you are running cupcake and don't need to downgrade
I think you are only really at risk when you flash radio and spl. Using the unlockr's stuff shouldn't be too bad. But read eveerything a bajillion times incase
same boat
Hey bunnybag
Was in the same boat as you until yesterday.
Also had a perfect SPL (0010) on a 32A.
I was also reading up a lot wrt getting a new ROM on my phone, and was also afraid of bricking it...
The gold-card method seemed quite involved, and that QMAT application doesn't exist anymore, and the newer version of it, does not run in XP or Vista...
Yesterday, I used the one click method from theunlockr, and after a few mistakes, it worked! Now I have a shiny CyanogenMod running with a 1.6 donut
It seems with the one click method -that you do not need to change the radio or SPL (which I guess are the most dangerous flashes to attempt)
Quicky summary of what I did, and where I deviated:
1) Read the one click method from theunlocker, and some of the comments at the bottom. Also - very importantly - watch the YouTube video at the top of the one click method page a few times!!
2) Downloaded the FlashRec apk (follow link on the one click method's page)
3) Installed FlashRec (the latest version of FlashRec looks slightly different to the one in the YouTube video but functions the same)
4) Did a backup of the existing recovery image via FlashRec. After the backup, you can copy the backed up .img to your PC...
5) Copied the latest Amon RA recovery image (v1.5.2) onto the SD card. Make sure you get the right one... there is a different one for 32A/32B... [Deviation from the one click method- which uses an older version of the RA recovery image]
6) Attempted to flash the new RA recovery via FlashRec. Here is where I struck a problem - the thing just stalled - for a good 10mins - and said 'do not interrupt' :|
I hooked up the USB cable, and from the command prompt ran: adb catlog
From here, scrolling up, I could see that FlashRec gave some message of invalid recovery image... Bit of a bummer - I checked the CRCs of the recovery image after copying it to the SD, and also tripple-checked the filename I typed into FlashRec! In the one click method page, they also warn about inadvertently adding spaces to the end of the filename when you type it in. I also checked for that.
I attempted it once more as follows:
-Rebooted phone
-Deleted the RA recovery .img from the SD
-Re-copied it onto the SD, and this time renamed it to something easy: ra.img
-Checked the CRC
-Ran FlashRec, and specified the path as: sdcard/ra.img
-Flash succeeded! maybe FlashRec can't handle very long file names?
7) After the recovery was flashed, I booted into recovery mode (HOME & POWER). Seems like the Amon RA recovery image takes slightly longer to boot that the stock recovery... so - don't crap yourself if it takes a few seconds. This is also a good point to stop, and watch the second video from theunclockr on how to load a new ROM...
8) After verifying that the new recovery image was working I booted back into Android, and I copied my ROM's files onto the SD. I used the Cyanogen Mod. The Cyanogen wiki has a page on how to load it for a 32A and also 32B.
Basically, you need the latest stable cyanogen mod, an Android 1.6 "defanged" ROM (link available on the Cyanogen wiki), and a new kernel. The kernel is 32A/32B specific, so get the right one.
9) With the 3 files on the SD, I booted back into the new RA recovery I just flashed.
10) Did a Nandroid backup
11) Did a wipe/factory reset [Deviation from theunlockr method: I did not format my SD card, or partition it into Ext & Swap. I prefer not to have a Swap partition on the SD, nor do I think I'll need to swap any apps out to the SD card... I think the 32A has enough space... you can read further about it in the xda-developers wiki, under page: HTC_Sapphire_Hacking_2]
12) Still in RA recovery, I applied (in order) a) the defanged 1.6 ROM, b) the Cyanogen mod, c) the new 32A kernel
13) Flashing it takes a while - there is a progress bar...
14) Reboot after all 3 were flashed. The first reboot takes a looong time... couple of minutes... don't worry, or try to reboot again... just give it time.
15) Once inside - tested everything: GPS, Wifi, Phone, Market, G-sensor, Gtalk, Gmail.
16) It might be worth while to note that once the phone is booted, and you've entered your SIM PIN, and the Android desktop is displayed, it can still take a few seconds - 4 or 5 I guess, before you are able to interact (swipe desktop left/right). Give it time to settle down, and all is well
//TODO: still need to flash a new splash-image...
Good luck - post back here with your results!
How to root Magic (32A) with Europe ROM ROM Version:3.05.401.3 with Sense?
Have somebody any idea, how to root Magic (32A) with Europe ROM Version:3.05.401.3 with Sense? Thanks!

Ah, I tried using the unlockr's method and failed at flashrec. The unlockr kept saying that the reason was because I was already on Donuts but that is not true. I ended up using the relentless rooter software (looking back, his method is basically an automation of the original method).
Maybe you should post this also in the unlockr so that people who have "backup failed" messages know what to do?
Thanks for the info. It will be very helpful for other members trying to use the unlockr method.
Thanks for the post guys.
@bogo_mips: Great advice and I'll more than likely use this along with the unlockr one click tutorial.
Oh and there's one thing I'm worried about. My phone has somehow automatically downloaded the 1.6 upgrade and it keeps asking me to install it. Anyone know of a way to delete it so that it won't upgrade?
I'm worried that it might install if I turn my phone off.
@bunnybag: that 1.6 download sounds like a problem... if it takes, you'll no longer be able to do to the one-click method...
Check around the forum for advice. I'd guess - since the download would have had to happen in user-space, that the downloaded file might be sitting on the SD card or possibly the phone's flash. Get that Linda Filemanager app from the market and poke around... I guess if you could find the file, and delete / rename it - you could avert an install?
Alternativley, I'm guessing that if you can attempt the one-click method, that you'll have a new recovery image before you power down your phone, so - I think that will keep you safe...
@visitador02: according to the FlashRec page, there are 1.5 cupcakes out there which have been patched, so - FlashRec can't work on them... maybe that is what happened to you...
Hello guys
i just need your help. i got the DHD for about 4 months now which i like a lot. but i just can't get over all the processes that run on the background. i like the HTC sense and i would like to keep it.
the big BUT kicks in now though. i know nothing of android and all these s-off, radios, roms etc make my head spin in thousands of rpm.
so, please. can someone tell me what exactly is all these?
i know that a rom is a (let's say) different unofficial version of the given android release. and i know (i think i do) thas s-off and s-on is something about a superuser "account" that let's you uninstall all the programs you don't want like facebook, tweet, stock market etc.
and i think that the radio has something to do with the "version" of the wifi/gsm "transreceiver" the phone has (it sounds like a bios thingy to me)
and to conclude the whole post (cause i'm sure it's tiring)...
i want to root my phone. i don't mind the contacts cause i can back them up (i guess) with a program (i don't know what the best one is since HTC sync just keeps some of the phone numbers and not all of them... :S) which i will find in the market.
so, rooting my phone and the superuser thing is what am looking for.
can someone please help me on that? can i root the phone AND keep the version that is already installed? (stock one)
should i do it? how easy is it to brick the phone and render it useless? and what should i do if it's bricked?
or should i just wait for the 2.3 version to surface with a new rooting procedure?
am on 1.72.405.3 version and i saw on the forum that you have to downgrade to a previous one to be able to root.
am sorry for the big newbie post guys but i would really appreciate your help.
thanks a lot
Cheers !!!
Youre right about the Rom and Radio thingy. S-off means that you are rooted and that you can delete system apps, Flash new roms and can use apps that need Root access. There's Another and that's ENG-S off, meaning that you can flash new radio's ( Improve battery life also!)
Contacts: You can Export them to SD (00001.vcf) And then Import them Back later! Personally i have import it to my Gmail account, because i like flashing roms
Downgrading and S-OFF:
Follow this guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
ENG S-OFF:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
I've you have that done i advise you to flash a Up to date Sense rom. They are tweaked and are better then the downgraded sense rom.
A good Sense Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040 Guides and "How to flash" is in the First Post
If you want another Radio you can look at the radio tread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
Thanks for the reply mate. However there is another thing that troubles me.
There is this clockworkmod thingy...
What is that? Do I have to install this so I can just install a Rom or is it for something else like a backup etc?..
Sorry for all those questions...
Cheers !!!
P.S. installed the xda app.. nice one.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
If you have rooted with visionary app an s-off, then just download ROM manager app from market and tap to flash clockworkmod. And yes, you need cwm to be able to backup your ROM and flash a custom one.
i did the root thing, installed visionary, permrooted, checked if the root is ok with root check prog from the market and went to flash the rom that was suggested (only cause i know you guys know FAR more than me so i trust you)
installed the clockworkmod rom manager, tried to install the new rom but i get stuck in the red triangle icon
tried to search for help in the forums but i can't find any regarding this.
i think i'm doing it right but..... oh well
anyways, thanks for the help guys. will try to find a solution but am not that optimistic about it.
Cheers !!!

That Red Triangle is the default recovery, not ClockWorkMod Recovery, so something has not been done right.
Do you have S-OFF? as it is needed to flash clockworkmod.
Take Care
TheQuest
i think i have done it but i can't find a way to check it.
am searching for it. it's probably this thing....
i tried once more, flashing cwm recovery and then flashing the rom and i got stuck on the white htc screen
oh well.... gonna keep trying
Cheers !!!
P.S. Tenterden is awesooooooooooooooome
was there a month ago
checked through the "boot menu" (holding volume - while booting)
it says it's s-off
still, while am trying to flash the rom, the white htc screen comes up and i have to remove the battery to reboot....
am i too lucky that it's not bricked?..... :S
Cheers !!!

When you installed Rom Manager did you give it root permission, when Superuser asked?
Lets say you would be very unlucky if you were to brick it.

TheQuest
the same thing.....
i reinstalled rom manager and it didn't ask for any permissions. there was this option to give the program permissions again. did it, it was getting some like 175 permissions, rebooted when asked but still nothing.
the white screen comes up
if i try to do all the steps again from the begining, do i risk to destroy the phone?....
does anyone know?
thanks for your patience...
Cheers !!!
and another thing.....
IF the update is being done and i am lucky enough, how will i know that it IS being updated?
will it come up with something like the "update" i did when i downgraded the version to gain root access and s-off?
Cheers !!!
Assuming you're rooted with S-off and Eng s-off; how are you trying to flash the rom?
ok, narrowed it down a bit....
a bit of history.. s-off and eng s-off are there. superuser icon is there, clockworkmod is there (didn't ask me for permissions when installed but i did "fix permissions" from inside the program, rebooted after being asked).
checked root success with "root check" from the market, done.
now, i get stuck in the white htc screen when i do "flash clockworkmod recovery" and "install rom from SD card"
but i also get stuck on the white screen when i "reboot into recovery"
does this mean something to you guys?
after i installed clockworkmod do i have to do anything else with the program? (i call them programs cause i don't know the actual terminology).
i read somewhere about a clockworkmod "rom" ....????
is this something i need to do? find a cwm rom to install and recover to that?
(god, why isn't this like windows?....... it's SO difficult)
one more time, i apologize for my ignorance and i really appreciate your time spent helping me...
Cheers !!!

i'm trying to flash the rom from within the rom manager.
i do the order of "flash cwm recovery" and "install rom from SD card"
is that incorrect?......
Cheers !!!
It isn't the way i do it.
i always boot into recovery and flash roms from recovery. You should see the option there to do it.
By the way, before flashing a rom from recovery, it would be a good idea to do a full wipe using Full Wipe 1.3 first. This is done from recovery also.
drop your new rom zip and the Full Wipe 1.3 into your sd card, open rom manager (make sure it shows clockwork mod installed) then boot into recovery from rom manager. Run full wipe first then install the rom.
i did that also but again, it stays on the white htc screen like when i choose install a rom from SD card...
i even tried "updating" to wipe everything and bring the phone to the previous state (no root, no rom manager" and did the same things one more time.
but...
i guess i'm not "qualified" to do these things....
Cheers !!!
i have the fullwipe1.3.zip in the SD card but i can't boot into recovery to do it. it stays on the white screen of almost death (i have to take it a bit light cause it'll drive me crazy. hahaha)
Cheers !!!
Are you following these instructions?
Flashing your rom
- Tell any people that might call you during the next 10-15 minutes to not worry
- Connect your phone using "Disk drive" to the computer.
- Copy both your full-wipe-1-3.zip and your rom zip file to your SD Card
- Make sure you copied them correctly
- Check again because once you full wipe, you won't have a rom.
- Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Install and open Rom Manager from the market
- Tap on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
- Wait for it to download (yes, you need a wi-fi or data connection)
- After it is done press "Reboot into recovery"
- If you get an icon with a phone and an exclamation mark in a triangle, remove the battery from your phone, reboot and then flash the clockworkmod recovery again
- Once you are in the clockwork mod recovery, you may use the volume keys as directional keys (up and down) and the power button may be used as Enter.
- I recommend you do a nandroid back-up. You must have at least 1 gb of free space.
- Select "Install Zip from sdcard"
- Select "Choose zip from sdcard"
- Select full-wipe-1-3.zip (It's right under those folders)
- Confirm by selecting the Yes option in between those "NO"s
- Wait for it to finish
- DO NOT REBOOT!!! In case you were not aware, you now have no rom installed
- Once again select "Install Zip from sdcard"
- Select "Choose zip from sdcard"
- Select your rom zip file
- Confirm your selection (just like with the wipe)
- Wait for it to finish
- Please reboot from the recovery menu and flash nothing else before you have rebooted
- Pop a champagne bottle, because it's done.
Taken from wid0w's instructions.
yup, done this. but again, when i boot into recovery, the white screen comes up.
i have read that there may be a problem with the rom manager (with some devices) and i may need to "downgrade" the version of it..... could this be the reason?
but i don't know if i can find a previous version
Cheers !!!

What I did was flash a stock froyo build onto the phone, this is possible as you have s-off. This can be rooted, do that then install clockwork mod. Then on the HTC Vision XDA wiki follow the steps to unroot the phone. Make sure it's for the desire z not the T-Mobile G2.
hmmm... how to flash stock froyo, and where is it m8?
thanks for reply!!
btw, when try recovery in botloader, coming back with red triangle...
No unrooting was necessary for me
I just sent in a g2 to tmobile for a warranty replacement because my screen stopped working. I was rooted and running CM6.1. I got my new phone in 24 hours and returned the old one weeks ago. It was accepted and I was only charged for the rush shipping I requested to get my replacement phone faster.
It's possible you don't need to unroot. I'm not saying it's a guarantee that they don't hassle you, but on tmobile they didn't check. Obviously it may differ given that you have a desire z and are probably with a different carrier.
i bought it for cash, so have to send it direct to htc, and they prob know what they doing, as t mob and other providers not always looking at this things and they sending 1000 back so not all get checked for this sort of things..
SORTED
repeated rooting process, phone didnt load os and stuck on htc logo, rebooted in to recovery and as cwm rom manager was back , restored image of cm7.. now will try not to brick it...
Hi , okay i lost my old MyTouch 4g from launch , and received a new one back in August. I decided to finally do the downgrade via ADB , i got through every step and when it was time to do the "manual Downgrade" i put the Rom on the root of the SD card and when i booted to the bootloader it said PD15IMG.zip was found but the nbh file wasn't found
SD Checking...
Loading... PD15DIAG.zip
No image!
Loading... PD15DIAG.nbh
No image or wrong image!
Loading... PD15IMG.zip
No image!
Loading... PD15IMG.nbh
No image or wrong image!
and it never performed a downgrade , now when i tried to reboot back to the current rom, it gets stuck at the MYtouch 4g sign
i have a G1, so im able to swap memory cards to move files if need be because im not sure if i could access the USB mass storage through the bootloader
More information i have is at the Bootloader is
GLACIER PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.89.0005
MICROP-0429
RADIO-26.11.04.03_M
eMMC-boot
If I see and you type what there really is, then it didn't find any PD15IMG.ZIP.
That would be either because you have your card formatted in some weird way, or because you didn't follow the guide, didn't read the multiple warnings and unknowingly named your file PD15IMG.ZIP.ZIP (because your Windows isn't set to show file extensions).
So, formatting the SD card before use with regular FAT32 and making sure the name is right will solve that.
Moreover, you should check the MD5 of the PD15IMG. It will keep looking for .nbh only if the file is wrong.
no i downloaded the PD15IMG zip file from the guide i didn't have to change anything it was already named that file, so if i format the memory card all should be good ?, would i have to worry about doing the ADB again because i had multiple reboots by taking out the battery because of being stuck at the splash screen.
EDIT: Thank You Progress was made i just Formatted the memory Card now, its performing the Update through the Bootloader to 2.2.1 with the blue side bar , i'll keep this posted with another Edit
EDIT: 2.2.1 update wasunsuccessful it getts stuck at the purple "updating" words i went to a youtube video to see what the update process would be like its supposed to go "updating, OK, OK, Unzipping"
imma try to reinstall 2.3.4 then doing the ADB method if possible
EDIT: updating to 2.3.4 does nothing but the same thing 2.2.1 update did , now im stuck scratching my head
It means that the phone is stuck updating one of the partitions, which is bad.
You could attempt to flash Panache RUU on this thing. HTC have their own downloader, inaccessible through regular modes, which is invoked when RUU is being flashed using EXE file. You might also need a goldcard for your phone to attempt it. In the Mobilicity/Panache rooting thread in General section you'll see all the info on creating a goldcard. A bit of search will get you the Panache RUU .exe file
If the RUU is successful - you'll have HTC Panache for a phone. From there, you can attempt rooting and downgrading instructions in the Panache rooting thread.
If you still have warranty - I'd use it. Flashing Panache RUU, if it won't get you luckier with PD15IMG, will be irreversible, since I don't know of MyTouch 4G RUU in .exe format.
alright i have all the necessary files such as the RUU exes i tried to make the gold card but was unable to do so using the simple Gold card method , how would i go about turning my phone into the Panache if my phone cant even turn on fully ?
HTC software running on PC doesn't need your phone to be booted, it can automatically put the phone into HTC-specific download mode from any other mode.
Run the RUU.exe while the phone is in the bootloader, for example, and see if it flashes, and if not - what error does it show.
the RUU.exe says USB error, everytime i plug my phone in through the bootloader the computer comes up with a Android 1.0 New Hardware wizard i dont know if this is interfering with the .Exe not finding the phone
EDIT: Found Android 1.0 drivers , now the error was the phone not being charged LOL! , ill keep this posted with another edit after the phone is charged, thank you for the help i appreciate it.
Yes, you'll need the driver operational.
Use Windows 7 computer, it'll automatically find and install the needed driver.
Thank You So Much for your Help i went to T-Mobile , and my insurance covered for a new phone i took the option of going for the Sensation instead of getting another Mytouch 4g and running into the same problem,
I Enjoyed this community from my First MyTouch 4g of flashing multiple ROMS , this was and is a powerful phone i wish it had more dev/hacker support with this phone
After seeing this issue quite a few times this past week I thought I make a tutorial on how to possibly fix this. If any of you see any errors or any way to improve this guide please let me know and ill include it and or adjust accordingly
Note-Make sure you have plenty of battery. You don’t want your phone dying in the middle of flashing a PD98IMG
If you are stuck in Hboot and have S-On go straight to flashing Stock Rom section or Alternate method at the end
Do not rename or unzip-Leave as is
Recovery: http://min.us/mbaD8QTK4A
WWE Stock Rom (Sense 3.0): http://min.us/mIc6tkSGg
NOTE- The Stock Rom is for a Desire DHD. If you have an Inspire 4g or Telus DHD do not use the file. Use one of these instead
Inspire 4g pre-rooted Stock Rom: http://db.tt/DCU3oW39 (only use if you have S-off)
Inspire 4g stock Rom: http://min.us/mblzL6b6vL
Telus DHD Stock Rom: http://min.us/mTqXM8fTY
Reinstalling Recovery
If you have Eng S-Off and feel comfortable with adb you can flash a recovery that way. Go to Reinstalling Recovery using adb
For whatever reason you have wiped your custom recovery (My guess is you did a factory reset, thus erasing it). Personally i would try this first as one can go straight to a custom rom. If you don't want a custom rom feel free to go to the flashing stock rom section.
1)Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
2)Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
3)Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
4)Once reformat is complete place the file downloaded from the first link on the sd card
5)Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
6)Power off phone by pulling the battery
7)Reinsert the battery
8)Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
9)It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
10)It will ask you to reboot- but it will still be stuck which is normal
11)If everything is going to plan you now have access to recovery. So now we need to flash a rom. Skip down to the flashing rom section if you don’t know how to. If flashing the recovery didn't work continue to the next section
Reinstalling Recovery With No Card Reader
Note: Eng S-OFF is not needed for this method
1) Download recovery above and place it in your fastboot directory
2) Boot into Hboot
3) Connect your phone to your PC
4) Select fastboot
5) Open up command prompt and CD to your Fastboot directory
6) Run the command fastboot erase cache
7) After the OK run fastboot oem rebootRUU
8) You'll see a new screen with HTC logo and a progress bar. here you need to run fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
9) Once it completes (should say ok,finished, or complete) run fastboot reboot bootloader
10) Go into Recovery and flash a rom
Reinstalling Recovery Using ADB and Fastboot
Note: you need to have Eng s-off with this method.
You can use the recovery img that is found above or one of your choosing(newer cwr or 4ext recovery)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
Flashing a Stock Rom
Note-If you are S-off I suggest flashing a pre-rooted stock rom, as there is no need to re-root.
1)If coming from previous section plug in sd card and delete old file then Jump to step 5
2)Back up anything you don’t want deleted from your sd card
3)Plug in sd card into computer through an adapter of some kind or another phone
4)Reformat the Sd Card to Fat32 – Do a full reformat not a quick
5)Once reformat is complete place the file downloaded from the second link(stock rom) on the sd card
6)Eject the sd card from computer and insert into phone
7)Power off phone by pulling the battery
8)Reinsert the battery
9)Boot into bootloader by pressing volume down and power button
10)It will scan for the file press volume up to accept update
11)If everything is going to plan you now should have a fully working phone
12)At this point you are un-rooted so if you want re-root I recommend using the ace hack kit. (unless you used a pre-rooted rom then no need to use hack kit)
NOTE- IF EITHER FLASHING THE STOCK ROM OR RECOVERY PD98 FILES HAS NOT WORKED REPEAT PROCEDURE WITH A DIFFERENT SD CARD
Flashing rom
1)So we were able to re-flash a custom recovery. Connect sd card to computer and delete the PD98img file
2)Download the rom of your choice and any super wipe zips if your rom needs it
3)Place file on sd card eject and reinsert onto phone
4)Boot in bootloader.( An alternate is using adb to boot into recovery)
5)This time it will scan and not find any files. After it scans scroll down and select recovery.
6)You should now be in CWR. Do a full wipe (wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache-found in advanced I think
a.If recommended by your rom uses a super wipe zip. Simply choose install from sd card in CWR and select the super wipe zip
7)Now flash the rom by selecting install from sd card and choosing rom
Alternate- Flashing of a RUU
This is for those that don’t have access to an adapter to place files with. This should work whether your S-on or S-Off
RUU’s: http://www.filefactory.com/f/efa28fefafc4af9c/
1)Download your RUU from above
2)Boot into Hboot
3)Connect your phone to your PC
4)Select fastboot
5)Run the RUU program

Edited to cover up my newbish mistake. Maatsby knows why lol
haha, glad I could help. we all make newbish mistakes now and then, especially past a reasonable hour
One doesn't have to unroot if they don't want to flash the recovery through hboot. One can place a rooted version of the stock rom on the SD card as a pd98img zip and boot into hboot. Once flashed, just go to the market and install rom manager and flash recovery from there. At this point, one is rooted stock and free to flash a custom rom at any time. This saves from the need to reroot the device. Of course this is provided one already has s-off when the problem hit.

I did make in the note of guide, though it was in the last step. Ill add a note further up. I didn't suggest that way first as I dont have a link for a prerooted pd98 for dhd users. In the inspire section I did recommend the easier way as you suggested. Ill see if I can find a prerooted dhd pd98 and add it

When I made my post, I was lost and thought I was in the Inspire thread. Lol. I knew I had seen this over there last night, but it disappeared on me. What happened is a mod quickly stickied it and I hadn't clicked on the stickies tab earlier. I see where you suggested it now.

Hey, you exactly explained what my problem is and obviously solved for some cases. But unfortunately, links don't work due to idiocratic SOPA. Hence please review the links so we can solve our problems. Thanks in advance.

tmobile help please
Please can anybody download t mobile ota update ? i need to flash the update zip file to my t mobile dhd because i have installed tmobile ruu and my phone wont boot it is stuck in t mobile boot loop i have no root and my hboot says
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL.
I have an unbranded dhd but i dont know if i can install tmobile ruu on to it to download the tmobile ota update myself.. i have done this with my htc bravo's
one was virgin and the other was unbranded i was able to s-off the unbranded bravo using revolutionay.io and install virgin ruu on it and downloaded the ota zip file but didnt install it and copied it to my virgin bravo and installed the update can i do this with dhd ace ?
if you have supercid on the unbranded you can do that, though i dont think the ota will get you out of the bootloop. When you installed the tmo RUU it does take about 15 min to do its thing. did you give it enough time?
You could reflashing the Tmo ruu, but since your soff i would personally use the WWE version
Sorry Guys looking for some extra help, I was flashing a radio on GB and something went wrong... I am running a custom rom and am rooted with ENG s-off.
when I start i get a black scree for about 10-15 minutes, then I get a white screen with HTC on it and it vibrates for a good 5 minutes, then it goes to a white HTC screen with quietly good (or something similar) and eventually the phone will start.
I had ext4 CWM installed on it originally but I do not get any recovery options either in HTC or CWM.
I've tried using the instructions here with adb a recovery image to no avail.
The phone is currently 2.3.5 with HTC sense it was Android Revolution HD 6.3.2 by mike 1986.

Fixed it thanks ....
managed to solve the delay after booting by following these steps:
Q&A DHD Page 175 post 1749 lebsir
Hello! I have a Desire HD that is stuck at the Hboot, no recovery or anything.
I managed to flash some ROMs, either through Hboot or RUU but even then, the phone stays stuck at Hboot.
I tried many official ROMs and RUUs. The ones that can be flashed succesfully are the main zip from this thread (WWE Stock Rom) and the two Sense 3.0 WWE RUUs.
The update process seems to proceed fine, but at the end, when I reboot the device, it gives me 7 vibrations at the white HTC screen, then the screen goes black and stays stuck for ever (or at least for 2 hours).
I do not know much about the device, only that it had a custom rom and one day this happened.
If you have any suggestions or ideas, I'd be glad to hear. Even some generic (short) answers will do if you have any idea at all.
HTC service says that because of the custom software, the phone isn't anymore under warranty and they need to replace the motherboard.
