since this is my first post...u can all me newbie.
I'm trying to copy/paste some movies to device.
The card is 256mb from sandisk. Usually the is in divx mode. But the transfer takes a long time, and never ends!
So, is it because of the format of movie?
The size?
Have tried an app to rip from dvd to divs. Even then can't copy the stupid thing!
Some can gime me some hints?
thx a bunch
Oh...by the way, never thought that so many people uses the same device as me...
Hi,
I tend to use an SD card reader to copy large files onto my SD card.
I had big issues with the file explorer hanging when transferring a movie to my SD via Active sync. When I use a card reader, no problems and it's a LOT quicker
The only time I use active sync to transfer files is when i need to convert something into a PocketPC format (eg. excel to pocketexcel).
Good luck, I do enjoy watching a movie on the train or while I'm waiting for something.

So, u are saying, use something like a card reader/writer? Guess that's what u are saying. Will try that one.
Thx a bunch!
I use a card reade/write and often have problems when I remove the card after copying files to it I get "delayed write error", I now click on eject before removing it which I think flushes the memory buffer.
If you plan on sync'ing big files (ie movies regularly), than I would also suggest you get a card reader. However, make sure you get a USB 2.0 reader to really speed things up. I'm not sure if a USB 1.1 reader will improve MUCH on the speed of Activesync.
I have a 2.0 reader, which I bought on E-bay (you can get them from as little as 6GBP) and it sync's a movie that would normally take about 18mins to sync with the cradle, to about 2 mins!
I also sync a lot of music/songs to my storage card, taking about 5 seconds to sync a song.
I transfer movie files from pc to PPC via active sync and have had no bother !
best program to use is DVD to PPC ! find it very easy to use and never failed me yet !
anyone got anything interesting to watch on XDAII then ?
cheers
Hello. I've done a lot of searchs to try and find an answer to my problem. I'm not able to transfer most video files from my PC to my 8525. I've tried to do it in Windows Media Player via sync and also just to drag and drop them into the memory card folder on the phone. Nothing seems to work. I have the same problem with .mp4 and .avi files. I have several video ipod formated files I would like to have on my 8525 but I can't get them there. I think they would play once they were there b/c CorePlayer seems to play anything I throw at it. I can watch .3gp files that I download online, but can't transfer anything from my PC. Cab and exe files transfer fine, just not large video files.
any advice? thanks!
I transferred Divx files to the MicroSD to be played with TCPMP. I found it sooo slow with active sync that I now pull the card, use a USB 2.0 card reader on the PC and load about three 400meg movies on a 2gig card leaving 500meg for GPS map data and email. Using the card reader takes about 3 minutes per movie, far better than active sync could ever do.
How do you transfer a movie to the Touch HD and get it to play?
I've got an .avi movie.
1h 32m
647MB
720 x 576
192 kbps
I've tried Syncing it using Windows Media 10.
Only about 5kbs transfers to the phone!?
I've tried copy & pasting via USB but nothing seems to happen.
Looks like it's transfering but taking an age and the progress bar doesn't move!!!
Is the file too big? Does the file have to be converted to another format?
Smaller .avi files play.
Any help here please?!
What playback software are you using?
Hi
When you connect your phone you usually have an option to do only a file transfer and not a sync.
I suggest you select that , then copy and paste your movie file to your microSD card.
I suppose its slow because the phone is syncing and transfering the file at the same time.
Hope This Helps

YUP agreed. All you do is select data transfer after connecting your phone via USB to your computer. Then go to my computer go to mobile device go to storage card then either drag and drop or copy and paste.
You can use a CardReader: in my opinion it is better solution if you must move big files.

Big Thanks to everyone! It was doing my head in!!!
Waiting for your help, I continued to play around with the Touch HD.
Seems that when you connect the HTC Touch HD to the PC via USB, there's an option to choose between...
ActiveSync
Disk Drive
Internet Sharing.
When I tried to look at Mobile Device in My Computer (on the PC), I thought I'd somehow wiped the storage card . Looking again, I'd somehow chosen the Disk Drive option, and then in My Computer, another drive - Removable Disc (L) appeared holding my Touch HD storage card data.
I copy & pasted the movie (.avi) files from my PC hd to the (L) drive and the files transfered in the usual way.
Thanks again to all who took time out to advise. Hope my little guide can also help folk in a similar position!
Is anyone having difficulty getting certain types of files to transfer? Sometimes it'll stop transferring and I'll have to close explorer.exe. I tried using winamp to sync but I get an error message saying the files are incompatible, even though RockPlayer will work.
Need more info to help you out. What OS and version are you using. What type of video are you trying to transfer (size and format). Are you using the stock USB cable and are you using the USB on the front or back of you computer?

Win 7 ultimate. .mkv files which will play with RockPlayer, about 400mb each. I have to transfer them one at a time it looks like. Dragging the entire folder over freezes the copy process. Im using the stock cable which is inserted in a USB port in the back of my computer.
It might be the fact that the Xoom is recognized as a portable device and not an external drive. When copying over a folder does that warning message say it may not play on the device pop up?
I can transfer regular documents and music, but anytime I try to transfer a video my computer will completely freeze. I'm not sure if it's videos or any large file but I'm not sure what to do here. Anybody have this issue?
Try using/getting a better computer?
More I information about "computer" would help. What OS, how much memory, what proc, size of the file, hard drive size etc. otherwise it sounds like someone saying "yeah my car is making this noise" not very specific you know?
-win7-64
-2ghz intel core 2 duo
-4GB ram
-tried files ranging from 200mb to 700mb
Have no problem transferring the same file to galaxy S. Using Kies it doesnt give me the option to "add file to device" or anything.
The tab still shows up as portable device GT-P7510. Cannot get it as a mass storage device.
