i used to have a g1. bought it the month after it came out. then got the g2 a month after it came out. i love my g2.
i may come into an opportunity to get a g2x for my g2. would you trade? i know the g2x has some issues but i'm gunna flash it so it should fix most problems. plus dual-core, 4.1'', front facing cam, hdmi? seems like a pretty good upgrade.
any1 get a g2x after having a g2? howd you feel after switchin?
I got the G2x before selling my G2, I do miss my G2 though, great phone!
I traded my wifes mytouch 4g for another G2 (so I can go back if I want to).
I haven't had any problems out of my G2x but, some have had problems.
If you have the opportunity to mess around with the G2x for awhile to make sure it doesn't have any problems that have popped up with others, I would go for the trade.
Even better if they want to do even trade.
I say its definitely worth it. However if you use the keyboard a lot and can't live without it then well things change

Family member just got one, rebooted twice in the car back, and turns off every time it's plugged in, so no lol.
Little research shows that phone is having MAJOR issues. Hardware is amazing, but tmobile and lg need to pull the whole line until these issues aren't as rampant.

Nope, it's not HTC. LG's always have buttloads of issues, and terrible software support. If you think HTC is slow with them, you won't even get them after 6 months with LG.
Never been a fan of LG when it comes to phones.. just bad experiences with them. I have no problems with the G2, so I don't see any real need to change it to the G2x.
Lack of qwerty will definitely hold me off from getting g2x
No physical keyboard is a dealbreaker. Im also loyal to HTC as well.

If u are using the keyboard a lot you probably don't want the g2x. And it's an LG, I wouldn't go for it.

I actually purchased a G2X 2 days ago and returned it. The main deal breaker was the lack of trackpad. I'm now back to my G2 and loving it.

Is it a straight trade or you adding cash? If it's a straight trade do it, and then sell the phone and buy the G2 back.
Had a G2x, I miss the keyboard so went back to G2. Typing without looking is always a +.
Definitely not worth it. Roommate has one and even after two returns its still a piece of junk even on stock rom. Random reboots, doesn't hold a charge for ****, lockups, white around the edge of the screen, and that's just touching the surface. Its a GORGEOUS phone and when it actually works it rocks, but like I said a year ago, the first gen dual cores were all gonna have problems that needed worked out. And his phone proves it.

The G2X looked really promising, but unfortunately people are having issues with it. I think it looks like a great device. I'm already seeing them for sale as low as $300 though. Its really a shame I thought this would be another good addition to the "G" line of phones for T-mobile.
I think some of the steam got taken from it when the Sensation 4G was announced as well.
If someone offered me one for my G2 I'd probably give it a whirl. I definitely don't think its a big downgrade or anything like that.

It doesn't even deserve to be part of the G series honestly. It's made by LG (don't even get me started with LG). So I don't even count it as part of that phone line.

Build quality on the devices is amazing though. The screens used in them IMO not so great, but they are pretty sturdy phones, especially the 4g, so if the 4g slide is anything like the 4g as far as build quality then I'd get one, I'm not THAT much of a fan of the design, but it's a good upgrade from a G2 I think. Dual Core 1.2ghz and once it's rooted and we get CM7 running on it, it's going to be a badass phone. I definitely see the improvement over a single core phone when I used my G2x, even my Nexus S OC'd to 1.3ghz wasn't as smooth as my G2x, so I'm definitely eyeing that 4g slide.

Well I kinda got confused about it not having a keyboard. The G1 and G2 had keyboards, then all of a sudden they come out with the G2x from a different manufacturer with no keyboard. Idk.
LG hardware isn't the best, and I guess that's reflected in the current going sales price.
Having held the g2x I REALLY like the hardware, software is what is killing this thing.

I'm actually really happy with it. Ever since I got team fenix's froyo on here, gmail has been syncing properly, I have all the apps I need. I play games non stop in lab instead of listening to lecture. The thing isn't a battery whore and can last up to 3 sometimes 4 days on stock battery. It's a great mid range phone. I have a laptop for movies and tv shows.
I love it, and I never regret anything in life i just hope tmobile would have told us about the mytouch hd so I could have waited for that, hopefully they have it in white.

I love mine. I had a BB for 3 years and this is so much better and you can root it and make it your phone. I am not crazy about customer service from T-Mobile latley but the phone rock. Easy to root and works like a charm...
To be honest I regret getting it. Not because anything is wrong on the phone at all but because there are better phones right around the corner. If this is the only decent phone with a keyboard and sense UI that comes out then I won't feel so bad but it really sucks to have a phone with just 600 mhz when phones with 1 ghz are dropping everywhere. I don't mean to rant but I just don't want anyone else to make the mistake of purchasing an almost outdated phone. September should be big for tmobile ust try to wait till then.

I've thought about this too. However, it's how technology works. The latest and greatest is always just around the corner. If you upgraded every time something better came out, you'd be buying a new phone once a month.

Switched from HD2, and completely satisfied, not worried about the 1ghz. Seems superfluous to me, I don't plan on running any benchmarks on this phone so, what is the point really. This phone is snappier than any 1ghz phone I've used, only phone I envy is the evo with the hdmi output.
*edit*
Extended battery would be nice though.

I am satisfied with this phone. It has great features and I personally like the sense ui and feel its better than the vanilla interface. My gripes with this phone are moreso with the manufacturer. This phone should have had a better cpu, more onboard space and it should not be as difficult as it is to send a mms message. Those are my only complaints. If, however, the rumors about the mytouch hd are true, then I am going to definitely purchase that phone out right and make this my backup phone.

Seems to be a great phone, little buyers remorse on not getting the Vibrant instead as it would be nice to have beefier hardware but it is a major plus to have the physical keyboard of the slide, and sense ui is rather nice.

buying a slide?
i currently own an Eris on VZW, and i was thinking about switching over to T-Mobile ( due to current promotions and pay cut ). With that being said the slide was the only device that caught my attention.
is it really worth it? i havent really caught the buzz about the device wanted to get some current user feedback.
Thanks!

Personally I love my Slide but if you have a few weeks to wait, for about the same money (depending on the mail in rebate) you can get the new G2 when it comes out
I really like my Slide and have had mostly good experiences with Tmo. I've never been on another carrier but I have listened to friends endlessly ***** and moan about Verizon.
Are you buying it to root and load roms? or just as a phone? The stock sense rom is a little bulky and sluggish. Most of the Devs bailed on the slide. Eugene, HTCClay and even though we have CM the wifi is very wonky. They either went to the Samsung Vibrant or HD2..... If you need a keyboard than maybe the G2. The rumor that it only has an 800m processor stinks. Its stepping backwards like the slide did. I have had the slide since day one. Rooted it first week and have loaded every rom out there. I feel like i did when i bought my intellivision or turbo graphix 16 or sega cd.........
I've had it for about four months and haven't had any issues that were not self inflicted (goatta love rooting ;-) ) . Just go into it knowing your not buying a top of the line phone. As nice as it is, and it truly is a wonderful device, buy it with the right expectations and you will be happy.

If you're going to spread your opinion, you should do some research first. Clock speed is irrelevant in this matter. It's a completely different type of chipset (Scorpion), that works much more efficiently and quickly than current Snapdragon and Hummingbird processors, according to the information we have.

IMO u should wait and get one of the two new phones that T-Mobile is fixing to come out with. This slide is only ok. Nothing bad to say about it (unless you wanna get choosy, like I am) but also nothing good to sat bout it if u know what I mean. Obviously there are better phones out there but not any that u can get from T-Mobile. This is just MY opinion so do what u want with it.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
I would wait for the G2.
Waste of money IMHO. The slide is dependable but very low end. I would stick with verizon as well. Better phones and better coverage (at least where I am) also not as expensive.
it is good if you must go with tmo but then again I would say consider some of their other models or wait for some newer phones. Phones always come around the holiday season.
lettin the hussy role on my MT3G Slide
Slide is Tmobile's current top offering.
Is it worth it?
Sure; yes.
Wait for the G2, or choose another carrier for their high-end phone.
But the truth -- is that the Slide is holding it's own with phones with better specs.
That's the hype you'll be hearing about the Slide (at least for a while).

Agreed, if you need a phone NOW the Slide is T-Mobile's best phone. If you can wait a bit, the G2 will be the way to go.
The Slide is a great phone, but the G2 is only gonna be 20 more, so I would wait the 3 weeks and get the G2. If I had known this was definately coming out in September back in June when I got the Slide I would have waited.

I've had my Nexus One since April, and right now after seeing the new Nexus S (which is some-what disappointing in terms of upgraded hardware) I've decided it's time to move on. I'd like to sell before the Nexus S comes out since I believe the price of the Nexus One will decrease. I'm currently considering the following: G2, Nexus S, Captivate, Galaxy S i9000, and Mytouch 4G. The problem I'm having is deciding, see I would really love to have a front facing camera which would come in handy for me but, the phones that offer it don't work with AT&T 3G (except the i9000). So, I would like to get a captivate or i9000, but I'm not really fond of the i9000's design nor either's Touchwiz & Samsung's updates. I would really love a G2, since I could easily sell my Nexus and buy one with money to spare in some occasions and it's a very attractive device with great build quality (except for that hinge issue), but again, no AT&T 3G and no FFC. The Mytouch has the FFC, and is a nice phone and all but probably the ugliest thing EVER in my opinion. The Nexus S has everything I want (except for AT&T 3g) but, I would probably have to shell out $100-$200 to get it. So, what I need is advice. If you were in my situation, which would you choose? Thanks!

Still in a contract for another year :/
if i was in your situation i would not sell for a couple reasons
u will get STRESSED going back to edge. i mean its ridiculously slow coming for a 3g one
In a couple months they will be releasing some kick ass phones..wait patiently ..regardless the n1 is already depreciated
You will be trading one of the most customizables phones for some that you are not sure if it ll get the same support
IF you sign up for tmobile you buy one g2 and get 1 free (just got an email about that)

Get a Desire Z from bell canada, unlock it, and that's your G2 with AT&T 3g support.
The one I am impatiently waiting for is the Motorola Olympus for at&t. They say q1 of 2011, which is just when my warranty is running out for the n1.
the nexus one is still one of the best phones currently out there. my opinion at least. i hope to keep this phone another year before i get another itch. til then i hope my N1 doesn't get any scratches.
I'm looking at the desire Z also for the next phone. I'd like the price to come a bit first though. I haven't found it for less than 650 yet.
Wait a month 2 c whats new in 2011...
Went from a Nexus to a G2 then back to a Nexus to make some extra cash to get rid of the keyboard.
Currently I traded my Nexus for a new Mytouch 4G.
It is a very fast phone, solid build, decent camera, and its 4G, not to mention it has some nice novelties like front facing camera and a hard button for the camera and 720p recording out of the box.
Alot of people complain about the UI but i havent seen much slowdown or problems with it. It's a pleasure to use and i have yet to remove the battery bc it froze.
I went from a Galaxy S to the N1.
The screen is definitely a BIG step up from the N1, both in responsiveness and quality.
The phone itself though, frustrating. Good hardware potentially but crippled by bad implementation. Out of the box they are laggy and unstable. The GPS is basically useless for anything other than telling you where you are at that point. Start moving about, and its gone. Then its the going into a coma for no apparent reason.
The N1 is probably just about a more dependable device. Not sure I'd go for the SGS over an N1.
I would try to get a dual core phone with vanilla android. So I recommend that you wait.
my advice is it sucks but you have to just wait for an ATT 3G version to come out. just wait for a nexus S with att 3g is your only choice. the nexus one is still awesome enough to ride it out for a bit longer.

Well, see im stuck in a dilemma. I can either a. sell my nexus one on eBay right now for $450 (offer I just got) and add $for a Nexus S OR b. wait it out. The only thing i'm afraid of is that the nexus's value goes down and when NS comes out everyones gonna be selling and their gonna be a dime a dozen....
SO, what do you guys think I should do? I have until tomorrow to decide to sell...
Personal finances are different for everyone. If U need the bread now for an upgrade, then sell at the best price.
I say wait it out. The Nexus one is going to get Gingerbread soon and the value wont depreciate as fast as you're afraid it will. In a couple of months it will be on a very small list of phones running Gingerbread and people will be willing to pay top dollar for it.
I'm in the same boat. I can upgrade right now but there's nothing on AT&T compelling enough to make me switch. Hopefully CES will give me something to look forward to. That LG Star is actually looking surprisingly good, as is the Olympus, and I definitely want Tegra2 on my next phone.

I just picked up a mt4g at the upgrade cost from t-mobile. I'm coming from a nexus one. I'm really on the fence, If I should just give it back and wait for a newer phone to use my upgrade credit. It just doesn't feel like a huge upgrade from my N1. I'm thinking I would like a 4+" screen too. I wish I had a date when the pyramid was available.
Should I keep my N1 a couple more months or move to the mt4g?
Go back to the n1 till summer.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
My wife has the mt4g, which is why I'm in here. It's a great phone, but I agree that it doesn't seem much better than the Nexus. If even say it's just different, in good and bad ways, and not necessarily better (probably the wrong place to say that?). I'm possibly just attached to my Nexus?
Anyway, you could wait forever for the next phone, and there's always the latest rumors - but the Pyramid does sound nice (first time I've even thought about switching).
There's certainly a lot worse than the mt4g!
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Didn't hear back from any actual mt4g owners.
I slept on it, and i'm going to be returning the phone to t-mobile today. It's nice enough phone and I give it props. Even with all the bloat crap on it, it did feel faster than my N1. I just wasn't blown away. I think it just goes to show how good the N1 was when it came out. I never dreamt that I would be happy with a single phone for more than a year.
Patience is not one of my virtues. I really hope T-mobile gets dual-core and big screen soon.
I was in a similar boat about a month ago. I was forced into getting a new phone though, as my Mytouch 3g finally fell the wrong way and the screen got smashed to bits. Was between the MT4G and the Nexus S, decided to go with the 4G for FFC, HSPCA+, and more RAM. Plus I like Sense and the sturdy body of the 4G. Like someone else alluded to, there will ALWAYS be the next cool thing just a month or 2 away, so you're never really future-proof with a new phone in that sense.
As for advising you on the phone itself, all I can say is that I think the MT4G is the best android (certainly the best TMO android) phone on the market right now. It's got extra RAM, good features, HSPA+. But if you're happy with the N1 for the next ? months, then wait it out. I just didn't have that option, and am very happy with the 4G.
Oh and one more thing regarding your last post - I'm sure it's a personal preference, but the screen size on the 4G is perfect for my tastes. It's big enough (little bit bigger than iphone) but still comfortable to hold and put in your pocket. The 4"+ screen sizes are great for media and web browsing, but were too big for me to really be comfortable with (again just personal opinion). I like to be able to just slip my phone in my jeans pocket.
i would wait for a few months for a newer phone.mt4g is great, but the newer hardware will be better.

Currently with the mytouch 4g, its a solid device! I really like it but its just bland to me, not much development for it. I loved the nexus one , trackball wake, and alert colors were very nice. Screen is still pretty good compared to some new models. I would recommend just keeping the nexus one till a new phone comes out. Heck I may sell the mytouch 4g for $300 today, and buy a vibrant for $150.
Neuxs one still has solid development of roms, which I still wonder into that area to look over whats going on. Mytouch 4g well it does have 4g services, and front facing camera....thats really the only differences that stand out. Heck I dont use the FFC nor can I use 4g since I'm unlocked on a local carrier, although I did hit 7.04 mbps today, highest to date.
Stay with the nexus one, itll still hold its value and its holding up well vs current phones

Sorry just find it weird that you think its a plain jane phone yet theres a plethora
of stuff to mod it with and make it your own....
The mt4g has a pretty solid development base, but it's relatively small compared to the N1... CM7 is cool, and probably the only unique ROM out there.
The development on the N1 is huge, which is why I'd struggle switching from it...
MT4G is a cool phone, but it's nothing ground breaking.

I've seen, held, and used the Nexus One for over a week and I'd still choose the MT4G. Sure there might be more ROMs but you can't beat the fact that the MT4G has the better hardware still and more RAM.
Now for anyone with a G1 or MT3G its a no brainer the MT4G is better than the N1
As far as going from N1 to MT4G I would save your upgrade for a Dual Core.

agreed. if you are looking for a major upgrade the MT4G is perfect and will hold its ground for a long time. But the leap in power and quality from the N1 to MT4G just isn't worth it.
But to say the MT4G community and features is bland is false. Sure its been rooted since day one but so was the N1. It allowed you to root it without hacking it. So its been customized for far longer than the MT4G has even been out. It will take off soon enough.

Yes I am reading the same forum, mytouch 4g ? Yes there isn't much development, phone has been rooted since day 1, on cm7....phone is bland. Nexus one there was just that much more development, mytouch 4g development base is small compared to the nexus one

You cannot compare MT4G to Nexus One, that was the first google phone, now a days new phone comes out every couple of months people will buy what they like. Look at the Nexus S all the development have scattered to other models, G2, Z, HD, etc... all they have is GB and kernel, so many different versions its still GB And CM7 Lmao... MT4G has alot going for it that's why you came back

Just saw this.... just as I was looking to get one!
That's a bunch of crap if you ask me. Great phone, one of the only decent phones with a decent keyboard.

Wow. I've had mine since Nov. Came from a G1, I don't think they will send us referb G2's cause I had a Sidekick LX and they day the sidekick 2008 came out my LX broke and they sent me a brand new 2008. So if anything we may be in luck with Mytouch 4G S. But nine months is such a short time to issue EOL. Where's the update anyway?

They have to make room for the Sensation. After thats out for awhile then they will probably release the g2 replacement. Besides, they probably have enough in insurance to cover the people with a g2.
You crazy if you going to get a G2, when Sensation and Galaxy s2 are coming out. Unless you need a keyboard, I see no reason to get it over the other two. Plus you can buy a S2 or sensation when it comes out and sell it on ebay and buy 2 or 3 used g2.

Reasons are simple:
I want a full keyboard,
The price is right (48.88 on upgrade at Wal-Mart)
I don't wanna wait for the Doubleshot,
I don't like the hardware specs of the Sidekick, nor do I want samsung.
Did I mention the price at wal mart? (Cost is a huge deal when you are supporting a family and a mortgage!)
On a happy note, 4g is starting to show up on phones in SE wyoming!
I cant believe this myself but sound like the G series maybe a thing of the past with ATT in the picture. I dont understand how can you drop your best phone! lol
Well I guess this means we won't be getting gingerbread
I'm sure we will, In the article is says nothing about us not getting gingerbread. Just be patient and wait until next month before you worry about it.

The G2 is T-Mobiles freaking most reliable android phone weve carried since the day it came out. I work in one of the most high volume stores in the country and we get the G2 with issues atleast once per 3 weeks and we still manage to trouble shoot and fix the issue on the phone. We don't have any phone that compares to it. Its been 8 months or so since its release and it still rapes in sales . Amazing!!! All you idiots that complain about being on your 3rd or 4th phone. There's one thing we always say in store... "USER ERROR!!!!!!!".I had the phone one month before release and rocked it till about two weeks ago, I got the G2x...still rock solid. Punks!!!
hahaha he makes me feel proud about my good ol' G2
Damn, what the ****?? I don't understand why they're pulling the plug on the G2 when phones like MyTouch 3G Slide is still available.. If anything, do away with that one before you do it on the G2 which is by far a better phone in every single aspect than the MT3GS.
T-mobile needs to get their priorities in order. Mytouch 3G and 3G slide are still sold. They just put G1 on EOL last year I believe. G1 had 3 years of life. While we G2 users only get 9?

Now, tell me something. What will Gingerbread do for us? My friend is using Gingerbread and he said that there is barely a difference between 2.2 and 2.3. ,

One good thing I can say about this is the g2s will be rare since they won't be in production. Meaning if we want to sell ours we can bump the price. Ha

Hmm I'm trying to trade mine now for a Nexus S and every buyer wants at least $90 on top. What you said has got me thinking about holding on to it, since mine is in pretty good condition.
But yeah its sad to see the G2 gone. I think with the end of the G2 comes the end of the G series, especially if the the Tmobile buyout goes through.
I suspect one of the major reasons is the sheer number of hardware issues the device has faced - particularly with the screen. I'm on my third g2 in only 8 months and i handle my devices with care (unless you count stock OS which I gutted for cm7 ). Honestly, when i returned my g2 for warrant repair last time I was hoping they could replace it with a different device. Guess not - still, what this will do give those needing warrant repair a way out of the g2 hardware issues and boost the price for well maintained g2s on ebay.
I'm thinking this has to do with something an earlier poster said. The G series may be going away. Despite the G1 being the genesis of Android, nobody in the "mainstream" knows that. Ask an average joe what the first Android phone was, and I'll bet money they'll respond with "the Droid". Marketing does a lot.
I just find it strange how the G2 has been killed off prematurely and how the G2X is "temporarily out of stock". Throw in all of LG's manufacturing woes and the impending release of the MyTouch 4G slide, and the G series looks to be in trouble. Knowing T-Mobile, they'll want to highlight the "consumer-friendly" (and really cheesy, IMO) MyTouch line of phones. Just a theory... I actually hope I'm wrong.

I don't see any particular reason for them to continue with the HTC VISION. The HTC DOUBLESHOT (very soon) is basically the same exact phone with a CPU upgrade and a front facing camera... possibly more RAM and internal storage as well. The screen is identical, probably the exact same part, the keyboard is very very similar, etc. Probably the same mainboard with a few different parts soldered onto it, and a different casing.
Also I wonder how much of this has to do with a push to retire phones lacking FFC and NFC - increasingly becoming standard components for android devices.
