I have Swype 3.0 installed.
When I dock my transformer it notifies me :
ASUS Keyboard is not selected, Change to ASUS keyboard to keep consistency with hardware keyboard.
I say OK.
When I start typing on the hardware keyboard however the keyboard layout has switched to US from UK.
To fix it I have to quickly switch to the Android keyboard and then switch back.
Anyone else come across this ?
Any idea how to fix ?

I havent but I know but I know that if you get to a section that you need to type there is a small keyboard on the bottomo of the screen. If you click on that icon it will give you your different keyboard seetings and layouts. I however do not have any related to UK in my settings. If you go into language and keyboard settings and go into avtive input methods and then select use system language it should fix that.

It is a bug.
The only way to properly fix it is by rooting and changing some keyboard files around. There is a thread on it if you search.

I'm using thumbkeyboard beta right now and i was wondering if it was possible to disable the "keyboard not selected" warning when i dock in?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I get the same warning, but I'm not even sure what it means. I ignore it and the keyboard still works fin be..... Would be nice to disable it, but not really a big issue for me.
I think it means that the hardware keyboard might not be properly interpreted if you have another keyboard selected.
I wish you could automatically have it switch to the ASUS keyboard when you clicked it in. And then switch back to whatever you had before.
Anyone know if there is an easy way to switch apps with the hardware keyboard?

I did search but didn't get a clear picture
Sorry for the repost.
I want a keyboard where i can longpress the qwerty keys to type numbers instead of switching to number mode.
I saw both motorola milestone 2 and nexus S has such a keyboard. it seems it is part of the standard gingerbread keyboard.
Is it possible to enable this in the Arc or do I have to install 3rd party application?
Are there any recommended 3rd party apps for this?
There are so many keyboards availble in the market. Give it a try. Personnely I use Swype and it does more than what you need.
Check it out here.
Swype and SlideIt are good if u like the slide your finger to write. I highly recomend SwiftKey. After some days when it's learned your writing it's awesome and makes typing very fast
Smart Keyboard
I use this Keyboard from Android 2.3 and does the job
a good alternative keyboard is Thumb keyboard...I use it for my Dell Streak and I have used it on the arc also...if you select the 5' tablet option, ull get numbers directly without need to long press on letters or even switching to number mode..

thanks this is perfect.
Swype. Best there is.
The stock keyboard sucks. really badly. I personally just recommend the stock 2.3 gingerbread keyboard, has multi touch and i can type super fast with it. Its free on the market as well, just search for gingerbread keyboard.
TRY THESE TWO, THESE ARE BEST out there:
1. FLEXT9
2. PERFECT KEYBORAD (I am using this)
I use swiftkey keyboard, it does the longpress thing, and also has the option to switch to numeric keyboard.
what beats me is why they replaced the stock andriod gingerbread keyboard with the default one which is just not as good.

thanks for this bought the donate version
anyone notice the gingerbread keyboard in the market takes up more ram
Umlauts please
any recommendations for a keyboard which has umlauts in the layout (without long-press)
I'm speculating that all arch like mine have 3 keyboard by default, the default input, chinese and japanese keyboard.
to my suprise the chinese one had a few tricks on it. swipe to change querty <=> phone pad layout, long press, swipe down, smiley & symbol lock button, different landscape potrait layout.
down side: english chinese dict only, cannot use user word in phone pad with prediction on, don't think support multiple touch, vulnerable en/chinese button, prediction button use menu, not toggle.
definitely worth trying before investing keyboard app.
better keyboard works great

It is a great keyboard but the eats up quite a lot of memory...
I bought Swift even tough it has no umlauts in the layout. Fit's me very well except for that i still would prefer to have separate buttons for the umlauts.
I also tried "Smart Keyboard" which has äöü buttons but the completion is far from what swift does.
I also tried "Ultra Keyboard" looked nice but the one day trial was to short to decide if it is worth the money (especially as i already purchased swift at that time)
Currently I hope the upcoming Swift update will give us configurable layouts.
question re installing keypads
I tried installing the gingerbread keyboard mentioned above, but I cant get it to replace the arc kb. Do you have 2 b rooted?
I use the Thumb Keyboard when I don't have the dock connected but when I connect the dock I have to use the ASUS keyboard because otherwise it won't detect the German QWERTZ keyboard layout on the dock.
Is there any way to automatically switch between those keyboards when the dock connects/disconnects? Currently I am using Tasker for this but it cannot switch between keyboards, only offers the software keyboard dialog and then I have to change it manually.
Thanks in advance.
Forum member Stuntdouble posted a work around for that problem here.. can't find the link to the thread, but I'm sure if you do a search you'll find it
Thanks, but he uses the same method I described already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13890068#post13890068
That's a security feature of android. App can't request changing input method, because it can be possible to hijack some input like passwords this way. User must select manually the input method. So, for your use case it can be possible to hack firmware to allow this, but it kinda complicated without sources.

Strange because my T.F. does exactly that. I plug it into the dock, it switches to the Asus keyboard. I unplug it, it switches back to thumb keyboard.
It seems to work fine in the US, but if you use another nationalities keyboard layout the symbols end up in the wrong places on the Dock

Exactly what mine does too. Only annoying thing is the popup message it displays. I'd rather not see it.
Same issue here
this app can switch keyboards based on tablet orientation: https://market.android.com/details?...roid.utility.kmLauncher&feature=search_result
If that can do it, so another app can switch keyboard is the dock is connected
p.s.
Asked the developer to look into adapting this app for our use
are you two sure?
I prefer the android keyboard and when it is selected and i dock it tels me that i should change, but it doesn't change itself over. and there are elments of the keyboard which do not work properly
not confusing it telling you to switch with doing it for you are you? The warning I see is for me to select a different source..i'm in the us fwiw.

The physical keyboard auto correct settings do not seem to do anything. Is there any way to get them to work with the Asus keyboard? I fear my spelling isn't quite up to appearing on the internet unsupported.
Alternatively is there a keyboard I can install that works well with the physical keyboard? I am trying out ultra keyboard but it seems a little laggy and does not support the UK keyboard layout.
AFAIK there is no way to get correction off the dock's keyboard or a Bluetooth one. Unless perhaps a custom app is used as a layer between the keyboard dock and Android but I know of none. For software keyboards for the tablet end itself, it seems to be a pretty standard feature.
I generally turn it off, although I miss my Froyo phones ability to correct things like 'im ' to 'I\'m ' in the common case. Having a hardware keyboard available for serious typing helps. I also do most serious typing in vim, so I have spell check and access to dedicated tools .

Since updating to Nougat, I can't find a way to change my default keyboard. I've gone to Language and Input - > Virtual Keyboard but after that, selecting a keyboard doesn't switch to it. Where is the setting to specify the default keyboard?
You might find your answer here:

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, none of the suggestions worked. Makes me think the keyboards are not Nougat compatible yet, at least with switching your keyboards.
The only way I can make this work is to go to Settings->Language and Input->Virtual Keyboard->Manage Keyboards
From there, I have to set all the keyboards off that I DON'T want to us. Very aggravating but it's the only way it works. Before, there was an menu that displayed what the current keyboard is, and selecting it would give you a Choose Keyboard menu where you could change the default keyboard. That is gone now under Nougat.
SwiftKey is the ONLY keyboard that actually senses when you haven't set it yet, and it will pop up the Choose Keyboard option. GBoard and the Samsung default keyboard do NOT do this at all. Guess that's why I continue to stick with SwiftKey. I only download GBoard to see what the latest updates were like. Still not completely impressed. The only saving grace the GBoard and Samsung keyboard is the ability to move the cursor. In GBoard, it's swiping across the spacebar, and with Samsung, it's swiping left or right across the keyboard itself. I know SwiftKey has the arrow keys, but they place them in the worst spot: right below the spacebar. I am constantly hitting them when I mean to tap the spacebar, so I turn them off.
I found that Samsung has a thread in their forums for discussing issues people are having with the update and they are apparently monitoring it continuously. I also contacted Samsung support via Facebook Messenger and they have noted the issue and also referred me to the same thread. Not too bad as far as response and assistance. Pretty pleased with that. Just hope they fix this issue. Sounds like it's an issue with how they have modified the stock Android Nougat settings. There should be a gear icon next to each keyboard in the Language and Input->Virtual keyboard section, but there isn't. Hopefully, they'll fix this with a later OTA update.
Here's the link to their thread for reporting issues with the latest Nougat update:

Well this stinks for alot of people, hope to see it fixed soon! I had forgotten about Perfect Keyboard Pro having the same type of instructional screen when it installs. It gave me the ability to bring up the switch keyboard screen!
Finally figured out how to quickly switch between keyboards. When your keyboard is up, just swipe down in your notifications area to bring up the notifications section. In it, you should see a notification from Android System stating Switch keyboard. Select that notification and you will be able to easily switch to another keyboard.
Too bad that wasn't documented by Samsung, but at least you don't have to go to Settings->Language and input->Virtual keyboard->Manage keyboards and then have to manually shut off all the keyboards you don't want to use in order to enable the one you want to use.
