whatever happened to pocket g2 pro?

hi folks I currently use g2 pro for my download needs but, while it works it is prone to crashes.
I have been looking into this and as far as I can find the developer stopped work and 'vanished' in 2006.
this is freeware so. ..
has anyone any improved version or anyone any thoughts about how to continue development
cheers
chris
ya this was my favorite app I'd love to hear from the developer to find out why he abandoned it, I've a strange feeling that he died as no one has been able to reach him, I think his name was Alex Pi...

[Q] just ordered my first android phone

switched from my bb8900 that finally crapped out on me today. so being as this is my first android phone...what do you guys suggest i do first with it?
best apps to download?
probably not going to root. guess i can be considered a n00b. im good with computers but not programming good. ive read a lot but i dont want to brick my first android. maybe if i get a new one later on down the road i can practice on an old one.
best suggestions for increasing battery life?
games? etc etc.
also i have a question about gps. i downgraded to the 200mb plan through tmobile. i wasnt using nearly enough to keep unlimited. the majority of my use i can use wifi or randomly i'll use the gps when im driving. i know you use data when using gps but how much is it? i have a friend with a droid thru verizon and he looked up directions with google gps. and while we were driving he completely lost service for probably 30+ minutes going through some moutain heavily forested area. but it kept navigating. is this because google had already mapped out the directions? is it possible to just lookup where you are going and then turn off your service to avoid using lost of data?
sorry for being a noob.
thanks in advance.
kevin
Please post questions in Q&A section.
sorry about that
Hi Big Fancy,
I got on Android back in November of 2008 just after the G1 was released. Even though I'm a geek by profession, I wasn't planning on rooting my phone. That changed pretty quickly thereafter.
I was given a free CliqXT at the beginning of 2010 and I didn't root that (I haven't looked, but I'm not even sure if anyone even tried to gain root access on that device). I was hanging on and drooling over the Desire HD and then the HTC Glacier (myTouch 4G) hit the market - it was a no brainer.
I didn't plan on rooting this device either, as I didn't want to "break" my new, pristine baby. Philosophically speaking, one should have root access, but I'm also conservative enough to know when I don't need to play with fire.
What I'm getting at is, once I saw how easy it was to do...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834225
...it just became another no brainer.
Ok, so most of the apps I would recommend, are going to require root access.
Titanium Backup for Root Users - This is a must have. Whether it's for restoring data or reverting back to a previous version of an app, this is one of those apps I think is a must-have. It's also the first app I purchased and I've been on Android since 2008. I've been quite happy with the free apps on the market, but I loved this app and had to support the dev.
ClockworkMod Recovery - This is also a must have. Essentially, this is like imaging a hard drive or cloning your system. In a way, this trumps Titanium, since you can backup your entire "image." If something breaks though or if there's an issue with the ROM itself, then Titanium is your lifesaver.
AdFree - This just updates your hosts file and nullifies, if you will, any known 'ad' IPs/host names. Basically, you don't see ads in ad-driven apps like Angry Birds or Watchdog Lite.
Watchdog Lite - You really want to avoid task killer apps, to a degree. The developer of Watchdog has a succinct explanation of it on his site - http://www.zomut.com/watchdog/froyo.
SetCPU - Sure, you can overclock your CPU with this, but you can also create nice profiles which will pull the CPU back a bit and help conserve battery life.
LogMeIn Ignition - Those who know a little more might just use RDP or VNC. I've been using RDP to remote-in to my home PCs and any Windows Servers I managed since I got on Android. LogMeIn is great though and for those that aren't familiar with port forwarding, et al, LogMeIn is a dead-simple way to access your computer from the road. It's also a secure connection, so that makes it a winner in my book. I use TeamViewer to support my clients and we're upgrading our license at the beginning of 2011, now that TeamViewer for Android is in beta.
Speed Test - It's nice to be able to show off your speeds, but it's also nice to check your speeds wherever you're at. A log is kept, so you can spot trends if you're experiencing speed/bandwidth issues.
Here's a handful more apps/games I find to be useful...
- Adobe Reader
- Adobe Flash
- Amazon Kindle
- Angry Birds + Angry Birds Seasons
- Barcode Scanner
- Bonsai Blast
- Chrome to Phone
- ES File Explorer
- Gmote
- gStrings (chromatic guitar tuner)
- HootSuite
- IMDb
- Movies (by Flixster)
- My Piano
- OI Notepad, OI Shopping List, OI Safe and OI File Manager (particularly Notepad and Shopping List - I use those daily)
- Paper Toss
- Photoshop Express
- Quadrant
- Reversi Free
- Shazam
- Skype
- Torrent-fu
- Uninstaller Pro
- UPS Mobile
- WordPress
- XDA
- Yelp

I loved swype but now I've got the gingerbread keyboard app from the market, (by Steven Lin) and it's AMAZING. The auto complete feature is SO MUCH MORE convenient than swyping, especially while driving.
It is a must have for one handed operation and it works fine on the MT4G.
Give it a try, it's on the market.
Just search Gingerbread Keyboard and look for the one by Steven Lin.
You'll love it!

I'll give it a shot! Swype is just fantastic, but I'll check it out and see which feels better.
Not sure I want to encourage myself or others to text and drive though.

Well I wasn't promoting driving and texting either..but if you had too. lol.
shlongwoodian, that was a great write up. I've been on and off with Android ever I got my G1 back in Oct in 08 when my contract was up, and ever since then it was either iOS or Android, and now I'm back with Android after using it for a year in 09 and then this whole year with an iPhone. Missed it, got the G2 first with the contract and then this MT4G, and I'm loving it. Rooted this (I won't use a phone if it's not jailbroken or rooted, just a personal thing, I want to be able to control my phone), and it's been great. I don't think I can go back to a BB or iPhone. Even though I really want to give Windows Phone 7 a shot.

Thanks for the info. I tried to install the Fabulous Gingerbread. zip posted on Android Spin and it put my phone into a boot loop. Downloaded this and it is just fine. I do like it a lot. I had been a Swype lover but now I am really torn between the two and am leaning toward the GB keyboard.

Awesome. Glad you like it. I'm a big fan now too.
Still nice that the option to swype is there, if you switch back. But yeah. =P
So I did it. Finally got tired of the lag with my stock mt4g. Fully rooted with s off and loaded iced glacier. This runs so much better now. No lag. Totally smooth. Faster quadrant benchmarks. Hopefully the battery lasts longer like I've heard from some here on the board.

Just began to play around!

Wow! So far my first initial impressions with the Streak unlocked is very good! I never played with an Android phone, but this one is blowing me away with what it can do compared to my iPhone 4. I love how much control I get with this device. For the first couple of hours, I was getting error messages when browsing sites about server redirects and also noticed the screen was never auto rotating on 2.2. I found the Dell package update and now I am loving the browser and the rotation works perfectly! So far I downloaded the Dolphin HD and Firefox Browser, but prefer the Dolphin. I also synced my iTunes library and photos using Double Twist. I bought some games - Fruit Ninja, psx4droid and snesnoid. I only tried psx4droid which runs very well. I read a few online comics using flash and played some music listening from it's very loud rear speaker. I really like it. I am still trying to figure out how to add words to Swype, but eventually will figure it out. All I need to do now is find a good podcast player that does the 2x speed like my iPhone and somehow get Netflix playing on it and the phone/tablet will be perfect. I love how portable it is compared to my wife's iPad. I can actually fit it easily in my pocket and use it for real web browsing and book reading on the Kindle app! Does anyone think buying a magazine subscription on Zinio is worth it?
I think this is the post your talking about I pulled my build prop from my phone and it didint have the suggested value thou heres the link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11268565&postcount=1201
I think vlara has got the wrong thread...
Glad to hear stories like yours! welcome to android!
You can use playon to stream netflix from your PC, i haven't tried it yet but you can there is a trial period for it.
As for zinio, if your into magazines go for it. There are some magazines you can download for free, try one of those out and if you like it, buy it

Performance Fix. I am running 318 with the performance fix and it works well for me.
Installing any of Steve's ROM's requires that you flash a replacement recovery, see this guide at streakdroid.com.

Super Content With the (m)Atrix ; )

Hey guys, just wanted to express my love for the phone and let you know some things I did, that you could do too in order to love your beast a little more.
First off, I rooted at 1.26 and then updated and rooted again at 1.57 (used the root that says you need to root before going to 1.57)
Second, I got several mischievous mods and fun stuff that rooters can only have. (This alone made my phone twice as good...cough...tethering apk..cough...can't say what else)
Third, after figuring out how to make the battery run good, I downloaded a bunch of music and just enjoyed the sweet super loud speaker (covered) while I took a nice hot shower.
Lastly, and this took a while to figure out due to the fact that im no dev. I located on the android dev page the webtop via hdmi and made it so I could do just that. I tried doing the whole adb thing, I tried my own way with root explorer and the installer for 1.26. But nothing worked except for the 4.1.57 (w/chinese font fix) one. I highly recommend it! Go check it out!
Overall, I have a super fast (faster than the iphone 4
Good to see positive things about the atrix!
I love this phone as well its greatly sized and the screen is really nice and the haptic feedback is phenominal. The speed goes without saying and the battery life is good too.
So glad I switched from an iphone 4

I was like you when i first got my HTC Inc, i was able to root it and all and then do other kewl stuff with it. But when i attempted to install a rom on it, with no research done before hand as to how to properly do so, it really threw me for a loop for a good month before i actually started "asking" people for help on the forums. Overall, everyone was pretty responsive and quite helpful, so i encourage you to try out some of the psuedo-roms available. There are three thus far and they're called psuedo roms because our Atrix bootloaders are still locked, so until it's unlocked we can only make minor changes to the framework of the phone.
If you need any help as to how you can install any of the three available roms, here are some links that will prove quite valuable in your quest to further enhancing the aesthetics and functionalities your phone.
1. This link will help you get your phone rooted and retained after the update . But since you already have it rooted and updated, then you can immediately proceed to Part 3!
2. This link is for the GingerBlur v1.3 psuedo-rom.
3. This link is for the GreyBlur v2.1 psuedo-rom.
4. This link is for the GladiAtrix2 v4.2.3 psuedo-rom and it also has instructions on it =P
Of the three, i've only tried GingerBlur and GreyBlur and haven't had time to get around to GladiAtrix2 yet, but the ones i did try are both great. If i had to recommend one for you, i'd say go with GreyBlur just because of my personal preference, i like the theme and icon set better than the stock and GingerBlur ones.
Another great reason to try the Blur Rom series is that both roms have a "Blocked Advertising" feature! In short, if you have apps that give you pop-up ads, they'll be gone! And probably the one app you'll appreciate this the most for is YouTube, because you won't have those 15 second ads anymore =]
If you need any other help, don't be afraid to ask, the XDA community is very open and responsive =] Btw, glad to see you're enjoying your Atrix, it is truly a great device!

AndroidRevolution HD for note 2 1.1 DL

if anybody has a copy of the old AndroidRevolution HD 1.1 for Samsung Galaxy note 2 , i would really appericate it. I've been pulling my hair out trying to get ver 3.0 to work, but with no success. I assumed it would be as easy as 1.1 , but i was wong. One of my mistake was not making a backup after the 1.1 installation. So i'm stuck with an old image that atleast has CWM. So if anybody has this.. Thank you in advance!
thats what my repository is for

This is great, thank you! but the links for the 1.0,1.1, and 2.0 are dead. I really appreciate the effort though. Hoping someone out there has 1.1
then mike must have taken them off...

With a huge grin on my face: Thank you
as to troubleshooting why 3.0 dosn't work for me, i honestly don't know what to tell you. I spent a lot of time researching it and i'm just dumb founded. If i had a spare note 2 i would try to get to the bottom of it, but alas thats not the case (too scared to brick my phone).

Revolution HD 19.0
Hi all,
First post ! I'm not totally new on this forum, I've been consulting them since my very first Android and Smart phone about 3 years ago when I bought the HTC Desire. I did create account back then in order to communicate with you guys, but I never got the privileges for posting so... I just kept reading.
New account made just now because I wanted to share my experience and maybe post a couple of questions (even tips, who knows) - and it does work now, which is nice ! So... Hello !!
I was an HTC protagonist and hated Samsung for their phones made of Taiwanese plastic and their Apple-like designs and commercial strategies... until my employer introduced a new Android application and provided us with new Samsung Galaxy Note 2 devices. Well - let's just say I was amazed on one hand by the speed and capabilities of my new device and disappointed on the other hand by my beloved HTC One X. It's just that - everything works better ! The only annoying bit was the keyboard, which is far less practical than the one on Sense... but that was easily set right with the installation of AI Keyboard and its Gingerbread theme.
So - my phone had just completed its very first charge after I unpacked it when I decided to root it immediately, install CMW6 recovery and flash it with Revolution HD 19.0 - which worked like a charm !
I'm very happy with this ROM ! My battery lasts clearly longer than that of my colleague's stock devices (about 48h with normal use - including a bit of gaming during number 2's, use of Wifi most of the time and Bluetooth in the car). The response is slightly faster too - for instance that app we use for work works just a little bit faster on mine. Same thing for Youtube, Facebook, Despicable Me (cool game :cyclops: ) and so on...
During the flashing it suggests the installation of some apps - well a few of them weren't installed after flashing although I did select them (I remember Maps was not installed for instance... unfortunately I don't remember what else I had to install manually). That means I'm not entirely sure all the tweaks suggested during the flashing were indeed enabled. I couldn't find any Revolution HD specific section in the settings (like you'd have on a Cyanogen ROM) - and couldn't find any app either to test and play with those tweaks. So can someone tell me if there's a way to find/modify those specific options/tweaks ?
What I also can tell is that one of my colleagues, who received the Note 2 the same day as I did, followed me with the rooting and flashing with his device... He seems to have been less lucky than me - he tells me every once in a while, when waking up the phone, he has no reaction when trying to unlock it (he just uses the screen swipe). He has to put it back to sleep and wake it up again before he can unlock it... Is this something that happens to anyone ?
So there you go - my experience is nearly flawless ! I love this ROM and will continue using it !
By the way : does anyone know how updates work with this ROM ? Do I have to backup my apps and data whenever a new Revolution HD ROM comes out for my phone and restore that backup after upgrade ? Or is there some kind of OTA-like update available ?

Well it was the first thread when searching for Revolution HD on this particular device - for one. And I wasn't allowed replying on the thread from the developer about Revolution HD 19.0.
Had I made a new thread about this, you'd have told me to look up other threads on the same topic before creating a new one...
Anyway, I sincerely apologize if I made your day worse somehow with my irrelevant post in such an old thread... I hope you will forgive me
