I just got the retail tab and its unlocked with out doing anything. Is this normal? I thought I read that i/o root would not work on retail due to it being looked.
are you sure?
What make you say it's unlocked... mine boots up with the unlock icon but that doesn't seem to mean the loaders not encrypted and signed I don't think.

Has any one so far managed to unlock the bootloader and root the retail version of the tab. I'm asking cuz a friend is looking to get the retail version but won't get it unless its unlockable and root -able. Does pressing the vol down and power take you to recovery?
I know the io version has been rooted.

I am able to get into Recovery fine. Unfortunately there is no mounted sdcard, so although I can push with ADB, I cannot actually load the zip.
Just mount the file create the directory and place files there
Mount the ZIP?
Could someone please post exact instructions how to apply these zip files? As previously noted, we do not have access to the sdcard when booting into recovery. Thanks!
Yes please tell us how to mount /sdcard/
I have the retail version from Best Buy and /sdcard is not mounted. I tried to mount it but I don't seem to be able to. Also when I try to run fastboot devices it comes up blank but adb devices returns:
D:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
37C7046403FF217 device
I also tried in Ubuntu and same result... adb communication working, but fastboot executable can't see the device and I don't know how to get the /sdcard mounted using adb.
*** Please help ***
Please check the development forum. I bought mine from BestBuy on Friday, 16G metallic one. It is rooted.
The basic steps are to use nvflash to replace the stock bootloader with one that was from Googles IO tabs, then installing CWM, then rooting. Took me about 20 minutes.

The above links worked for me. I have a 16GB Tab purchased from Best Buy.
On initial bootup I had the unlocked icon on the boot screen so I don't know if the same method works for tabs without the unlocked icon.
But here is something very important. The Samsung USB drivers for PCs are a mess. There are so many versions for different devices (I have had 7 other Samsung devices that all connect to my PC via USB) After having constant connection problems I realized that the simple solution was to go to a "clean" PC (one that had never had Samsung USB drivers installed) and install nvflash per the instructions. Without the legacy Samsung USB drivers the nvflash method worked flawlessly.
Hello
Is there any chance of unlocking the locked bootloader for the SGT ??
guys I dont think I have seen any recent posts by anyone claiming theirs is locked. I have a locked white 16gb that I had got at the launch on the 8th but I am pretty sure most if not all of the tabs are unlocked at stores.
If someone can show a post indicating the user got it sometime between the 17th and now and it being locked, please indicate so
Some still locked...
Had a launch unit that was locked. Returned it for the metallic one on the 20th and wound up with another locked one.
Rooted using the above linked instructions though, worked like a charm.

I got mine on the launch from Best Buy and it was locked. 16GB metallic WiFi model.
So basically whether you get a locked or unlocked bootloader is a free for all?
What gives Samsung...
Could they potentially release an update unlocking the bootloader for everyone?

From what I've been hearing you're just lucky. There are some that are unlocked but the majority are locked. I doubt Samsung will be releasing anything to help but, I'd keep up in the forums, someone smarter than us will fix the issue for them!
Retail Roulette?
So, I've been kind of interested in this and, since I work at Best Buy's Geek Squad I've got a chance to check out the SGT's that get returned. It really does seem kind of random. I've seen 3 so far, 2 16GB's and 1 32GB returned since launch. The 32GB was unlocked as was one of the 16's. So, I don't know what the deal is... perhaps poor QC at Samsung manufacturing? Got me, LoL!
Is it possible to re-lock and unlocked bootloader?
I know updating should get rid of an unlocked bootloader, but I still get the warning screen on bootup.
Reason I ask is because I had it unlocked, got an OTA update from Verizon for kitkat, and soft bricked my phone. Got stuck in a boot loop with the unlocked bootloader warning message.
I just flashed back to 4.0.4 using RDS Lite 6.1.4. Id like to reset the boot loader to locked before updating to kitkat again.
It's not possible to re-lock. I've updated to KK and can confirm that the BL is, in fact, still unlocked.
I have read somewhere that when you unlock the bootloader, it actually physically blows some kind of physical fuse. or maybe I miusread it.
Someone had made a special logo.img you can flash to get rid of that message.
Although if you really want a locked BL phone, I'd be more than happy to trade you.

Not that it helps, but in Australia, we do not get the nasty warning message after unlocking the bootloader. And I think that the phones are actually sold with an unlocked bootloader.

Hi, I want to encrypt my phone, according to the research I studied, the bootloader should be locked.
Anyway, I am running a custom rom and already voided my knox a long time ago, this is fine.
My question is can I still use fastboot with my s4 (i9506) to do an oem lock ?
I tried fastboot in odin download mode, but no matter what I do it wont detect my s4 device. Adb commands worked fine but no fastboot.
I'm really confused whether Samsung devices even support fastboot, or is knox just a complete replacement for bootloader locking ? Is there still a software lock I can enable ? Even though I know it came factory bootloader unlocked.
Super confusing and hard to find clear research on this ... help
Bootloaders either come factory locked or not locked at all. And I don't think you can lock the bootloader of a device that has it factory unlocked.
Samsung devices do not have fastboot. Samsung replaced it with Download Mode.

Thanks, it would be nice to get a definite answer on this ...
The bootloader was never locked on any s4 except for the AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint versions. If the bootloader was locked, TWRP and CWM could not be flashed to the phone unless the bootloader could somehow be unlocked.

I'm pretty certain that only Samsung can lock/unlock the bootloader on their phones.
Hey guys
Has anyone had warranty work done after unlocking your bootloader and relocking?
Half the attraction of this phone was the outstanding two year warranty. But I need my root access.
Thx

Don't want to have to choose between root and warranty...

If you unlock the bootloader using the unofficial method, you could always relock the bootloader before sending it on warranty (depending on how broken it is)

Well that's what I'm assuming, but I don't know if there is some kind of permanent bit like uh Samsung Knox that can tell them it was unlocked at one point.

On a bootloader unlocked device, boot into the stock recovery, select the bootloader option.
Look at the last entry - device state. On a virgin phone it says locked. I'd expect it to say something else if the BL is unlocked. Further, does relocking bring it back to locked state, or something else. If something else, then it would seem they can check if the BL was unlocked.
I haven't had time to mess with mine, will be this weekend's project.

I Asked this in one of the other unlocking topics before.
When it's locked, it says "locked".
When it's unlocked, it says "unlocked".
When the bootloader has been re-locked, it says "locked" again.
Besides this and having submitted for the official bootloader unlock (when it was available), it's unknown if there's any other way that ZTE can tell if you are/have been bootloader unlocked.
^^Thanks.
Valid point. Could be some hidden fuses that get tripped - like what samsung uses.
Highly unlikely that they can tell with the unofficial method.

I'm not 100% sure but I think there is nothing like Knox in the Axon 7.
I'm on QAA and just rooted it. I'm guessing that the boot loader is still locked and nothing works. I've heard people say that the OEM unlock would unlock the boot loader but I don't believe that is the case.
Anybody??

Recover program? This phones bootloader is unfortunately still locked and will probably never get unlocked. Only root is achievable right now...
That's what I thought. I had read a thread here somewhere that they thought the OEM unlock unlocked the bootloader.

where?found it and share to us。
I called Sprint tech and they told me it was for security to keep someone else from returning your phone to stock settings. When I went to the boot loader the highlighted area seemed to bounce around between the options. Here's the link to the conversation.
