heres the fun part, you can flash (install) other roms, modems, kernals, etc that the developers come up with. You could flash google 3.1 right now.
My phone has like 6 roms and 3 modems on it. each rom acts and looks different, is faster or slower. my stock gps didnt work worth crap till i flashed a different modem
secular

How safe is this with respect to backing up partitions!

the clockwork recovery as well any custom recovery. it allows the unsigned .zip that we use to changes roms update and so on., without being stopped by manfacturer security
clockwork its popularity might have come from the awesome rom manager app i believe he is also on the cm team. someone with better knowledge can answer that one.

So im a big noob on modding tablets, and not wanting to brick it I would appreciate the help
So i install this app (already done) then open it up... i have 2 choices install clockwork recovery or install stock USA...... so i install clockwork recovery?
what does this do? lets me install custom 'recovery.img' onto the device such as PRIME 1.4?
so i download PRIME 1.4.zip and inside are 2 folders and boot.img, how do i then go about safely putting PRIME on the device?
sorry for all the questions but everyone's gotta learn sometime ;D
many thanks.
all helpful posts in helping me understand will be thank'd!!

You leave Primed zipped and put it on your SDcard.
You then boot into CWM and select install .zip from SDcard.
Navigate to the file (Prime 1.4) and just select it.
It should then install
Reboot and have lots of new fun!

How do I boot into CWM? like a device reboot, or via the app?
Ok so I installed CWM recovery from the app above.... and moved the PRIME.zip file to my SDcard root but in the app now the "Custom or Stock recovery.img from microSD" is greyed out.
Any ideas how I install PRIME?
I also rebooted the device and managed to boot it into CWM, however when i go to "install zip from sd card" PRIME does not appear in the list, i get DCIM/ and LOST.DIR/

^ My advice is to STOP RIGHT THERE
Don't even THINK about installing Prime until you've read the Prime thread in the development section and UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
Otherwise you WILL KILL YOUR TABLET.
Seriously, newbies shouldn't be doing any of this stuff until you've understood how to do it safely.

[Q] I have a dilemma:

I'm trying to root my Continuum, but I'm having a ridiculous amount of trouble.
I'm new to the android scene, and this is my first smartphone.
I was researching how to root it, and I decided I want to flash CMW on it.
I was using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072 for help, as well as http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-continuum/
I downloaded Odin, PDA'd the tar.md5 recovery, flashed it, and then put the update-i400.zip on my sdcard. I restarted my phone in recovery mode, and I was trying to install the update-i400.zip, and it won't let me. I've done both the tar.md5 and adryn's test4.tar, as well as renaming the .zip just 'update'
I'm lost, and need some help, please. I would've posted this in the development section, but being a noob, it won't let me. If anyone can help, that'd just be great.
Are you rooted? You have to have root access before you can do that stuff I believe, I could be wrong though.
No, i'm attempting to root, but I'm so dang lost.
Here you go sir
http://youtu.be/J1MD7GX7Pyw
i hope this helps.
video is about how to use superoneclick
by the way i used superoneclick 1.7 just because it worked with me and its the only one i trust. but thats just me.
good luck
bye the way you can check if you are rooted using terminal emulator from the android market
yes super one click worked for me select universal mode then rage against the cage and then hit root it might hang for a minute but it should reboot then check to see if theres an app called super user. once you see that your rooted.

I tried those, but to no avail. I'm gonna try SOC.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
I used SOC and after phone rebooted no SU app so did again (as per instr. on xda) rebooted and SU installed. Also for CwM Ive had best luck using odin3 1.3, adryns test4 tar, cwm 2.5 update zip, but I still had to use menu softkey to apply zip. Right now I can use rom manager app to boot into cwm, it says 2.5.1 but it has red text?
sent from my XDA phone - its more than a continuum
You can flash the Odin ROM without root. That will root and install the proper kernel for you... then use CWM to flash whatever ROM you want to use.
Or you can flash the complete odin package for 2.2 thats on the Continuum Development section.
Which will also make your device rooted

You don't want to rename the rom zip. You have to use the Cyan CWM update.zip, which is here: http://www.4shared.com/file/cLdwKNsU/update.html
I don't know if the other links posted are for the same file, but that's the one that works with Froyo.
You must have the cwm update.zip on your flash card. When you start up in recovery, you'll need to select apply update.zip. Use the volume rocker to highlight update.zip, and tap the menu soft-key to select. Once in CWM, the power button is select, and the back soft-key is back. You'll want to select the menu option to install zip from sd card, select zip to install, and browse to where you saved the rom file.
If all else fails, I'll be uploading a super-clean debinged ROM in the next few days. Once it's up, just flash via Odin as you did with adrynalyn's cwm recovery image.

CWM Recovery Flashable Zip

Hello XDA
Im just wondering if anyone can create a CWM 6.0.2.3 Recovery Flashable Zip that can be flash via Recovery..
Coz for I do test some custom cwm touch recovery, but to be able to revert back to Official CWMR 6.0.2.3, I have to flash the .IMG via PC (Fastboot Mode).
If anyone can provide us with a Flashable zip with ClockWorkMod Recovery that would be cool and I would be greatful to the one who provide it..
THanks and have a nice day..
Why not use ROM manager?
You can't flash a recovery image when in recovery as it's in use - you can only use fastboot (or ROM Manager if you REALLY want to)

Ow.. Thanks for that valuable information, though, I tried to flash a custom CWM touch recovery which was posted here, and there's a flashable zip available, I tried that and flash it via Official CWM Recovery it flashes without any problems,
Still, Fastboot flashing is no problem for me, is just that, It happens to me one time that cant access my PC, then thought of and hoping there's a flashable zip of cwmr without any modifications just like the Official .IMG
Thanks for the reply.
EDIT:
And as for the ROM Manager, I think its a paid app, and I only buy paid apps If I always use that app.

I have same set up when used TWRP 2.4.4 on Samsung Nexus, and ASUS TF300t; on both devices TWRP recognizes SD card external via OTG without problem.
On Nexus 4, when plug in, or turn it to fastboot, recovery mode, the light on USB thumb drive does not blink. after get in TWRP it will not mount external drive.
Any help?

I didn't "dig up" the thread. I was looking for information on CWM Recovery custom ROMs and while reading this (among others) thread looking for the info, I saw your post. Since you aren't man enough to delete your inaccurate comment, I felt it important to decry it so others don't heed your ignorant assertion.
Why should I delete it? I was corrected, I admitted as such and that is more manly than leaving a post saying 'deleted' in it don't you think? I can easily admit when I'm wrong and this was one of those times

[SOLVED] [Q]how to I apply this to my newly rooted device?

So i finally got to root and unlock the dam thing lol sorry for the word but yea I got it unlocked and all
currently using another sim other than t-mobile
and now to the question at had.... how do I install or uh use this "hydra" thingy from this thread?

i already looked at it but it seems that im only looking at like chapter 8 of a book and missing out on chapters 1-7 of it
lol. Heres a basic guide.
Do you have a recovery installed? If not download the apk form 4ext.net and install then open. Then install the recovery. Then go to bootloader and pick recovery.
Download the rom, copy it to your sd card (pick usb mount in 4ext and plug in your phone to the computer)
Wipe ALL your data from recovery
Pick install --> install from sdcard --> find the rom and press ok.
Have fun.

and 4ext is not free anymore >.>
Yes 4ext has a free version but you have to download from here --> http://www.4ext.net/get.php?apk
Install the apk and recovery
Remove the update from your sdcard.
Then boot into bootloader then recovery
You are s-off right?
yes i am on s-off and here's the problem actually now
when i tried to do the bootloader part i didnt actually have recovery yet
now when i tried installing recovery it showed me this: (attached file)
I might have accidentally removed the busybox thingy coz i dont see the superuser icon at the applications anymore
here is an pd15img of cwm recovery and hboot, this is the best pack for noobs, though i removed radio from it,cause file was 15mb.non need for root just s-off and you are good to go flashing right away

Before I even attempt to root & install a custom ROM. Do I absolutely need an SD card?
For root & installing custom ROM, it doesn't require to have a SD card..
Though you can buy one to keep your personal files.

Unless after I root your saying I would have to drag & drop the files into a directory inside the phone.

A bit of searching would have found you this guide http://androidxda.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s5-sm-g900p for how to root the G900P. Realy, wait for others to answer your question?
BTW you do need a sdcard if you want to flash roms, because if you data factory reset in recovery the internal sdcard should be wiped before you flash a new rom, unless you push a rom with adb or sideload from recovery.

Best is to place and use a sdcard to put the rom on. First you have to flash a custom recovery through Odin on your pc though, i personaly recomend Philz Touch recovery if available for your phone. Once installed you can flash other roms or kernels. No need to root first as all custom roms are pre-rooted. Make a backup pf your current rom before you flash a new one, just to be safe.

Sorry. I don't know when you responded. Slow network. It just won't boot past the CWM recovery/reeboot system now screen. It says my CWM folder is empty. I have an S3 I can use to transfer the .zip CWM file to the SD card of the S4, if I had the .zip file. I have no way to a computer to do anything like that, that way. The I'm Samsung Leiss? If you mean that you can use a s3 backup on the s4, then no, don't do that, i believe you can flash the stock firmware using your phone by MobileOdin or Flashfire apps...i guess, but i never tried them so i wouldn't recommend, if you have CWM recovery installed, you can try flashing a stock based ROM from development thread(if you like TW ROMs), you can also flash any custom ROM available for your model in the development thread.
