I just picked up a Tab 10.1 from Best Buy, and I noticed that there is a large "unlocked" icon at the bottom of the first boot screen.
What does this mean? Is the bootloader somehow unlocked already?
wow nice.
do you have access to flash in recovery? do you have bootloader access (that you can interact with)? do you have odin access (that you can interact with)?
Let's hope its unlocked

My grey 16gb did as well.
Same here on my grey 32GB but I can't get into bootloader. That unlocked padlock was the indicator on my Nexus S that the bootloader was unlocked so I'm hopeful that means it it on this too!
Same here! unlocked symbol on my 32 gb white from BB! feeling good about this
when i press power and v- it brings up odin3 download mode (protocol v2) and shows and android character, "downloading" underneath him "do not turn off target" "waiting usb cable"
You guys should try to root. The White version is locked.

My 32gb grey one shows the unlocked icon too.

I can get to this screen holding volume up....

this shows you dont have bootloader access.
select down and then up on the recovery icon (next to the downloading icon).
select apply update from sdcard, if it says 'unable to mount volume' and gives you two ../, then launch an adb shell, and type mount. do you see /data mounted? do an ls -ld /sdcard, is it not owned by root? if either of these are false, you wont be able to flash through this recovery and/or push anything to the ramdisk to flash.
if that is the case you can try this -->
we will try to flash a custom recovery to your device.
do this:
download all files from (i9000 downloader.rar is for windows):
http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/retail/
unpack the i9000 downloader.rar (use winrar to unpack this: http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm) in to a folder (you will end up with two files)
get your device in odin (download mode):
press power + vol down, press vol up on the digging android guy (default selection)
on the screen it will say odin3.. press start.
plug in your usb
launch odin..exe as administrator
you will see COM in yellow on the left hand side.
click on PDA and select the recovery-cwm.tar.md5 file
click start.
if it flashes successfully you have now flashed a custom recovery to your device. lets see if you can get to it:
go back to the screen (with the digging android/recovery icon), and select (vol down) the recovery icon and pres vol up to select.
if you see CWM (3.2.0.1), your good.
if it says write failed and flashes red in that box on the left hand side, odin is not accessible either.

[Q] I can't pass through "ClockMod Recovery". I am stuck, PLEASE HELP, I NEED YOU
HELLO ALL,
I USED THIS LINK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
TO ROOT MY MY TOUCH 4G PHONE AND IT WORKED FINE UNTIL I ATTEMPT TO INSTALL OVERCLOCKING SOFTWARE FROM>>>
http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/14/ho...ted-s-off-t-mobile-mytouch-4g-or-t-mobile-g2/
AND AFTER DOING WHAT THEU SAID MY PHONE JUST ACTED CRAZY/
EVERYTIME I TRIED TO TURN THE PHONE ON IT VIBRATES CONTINUESLY AND NEVER GETS TO THE OS. SO I LEFT IT ON FOR NIGHT LIKE THAT AND I WOKE UP IN THE MORNING OBVIOUSLY BETTERY WAS COMPLETLY DRAINED ( AFTER ALL THE VIBRATING BACK AND FORTH)
ANYWAYS, NOW IT JUST TURNS ON AND STAYS AT " MY TOUCH 4G SCREEN WHERE ITS WHITE AND THAT WRITING" IT JUST FREEZES.
IF I TRY TO HOLD VOL DOWN AND CLICK POWER BUTTON, I GET TO THE PAGE WHERE ITS WHITE AND FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, FACTORY RESET,SIMLUCK,IMAGE CRC MENU.
I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING IN THAT MENU INLUDING FACTORY RESET, NOTTING WORKS.
WHEN I ALSO TRY RECOVERY FROM THERE I CAN GET TO "ClockMod Recovery" BUT I CANT EVEN ACCES INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD, WHEN I TRY THAT ALL I SEE IS A BLACK SCREEN AND A HAT AND A BIG EYE UNDER IT.
THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING,
Step one, slow down
step two, turn off the caps.
Step three it's obvious that you have s=off if you have clockwork ROM on your phone.
At the top of your phone What recovery image do you have? 3.0.0.5? or a 2.x one?
thank you for responding, I have v3.0.0.5 version

as long as you do not have any errors on your recovery image about not being able to mount anything....to get your phone working you can do one of two things.
1)You can flash any Gingerbread based ROM either from Cyanogen(mod) or from TeamRoyal. Those all can be found in our Development section from your recovery image.
2) you can flash the PD15IMG and restore you phone back to 100% via the HBoot (engineering) screen, that can be found in our development section as well.
no luck
I get notting but a black screen with hat and eye under, everytime i try to choose anything from clockworkmod menu.I have adb installed on my pc and it regonizes my device , is there a way to reset the phone from there? maybe?

when you select something you need to select it with the track pad. If you use the power button you'll get the text will disappear.
the only way you can use ADB to flash stuff is if you have the engineering bootloader. If you just followed TheUnlockr's method then you do not have it.
i use volume buttons and power button to select it
oh ok now i used the mouse button select and i can select but now the phone is keep resrarting every like 10 seconds with a vibrate, nottting happens just restarting over and over. Where should I go next?
( remember fartest i can go is the "colockworkmod")

As he mentioned above, you need to use the trackpad buttons to make selections, NOT the power button.
If you can successfully reboot into recovery, just wipe the phone completely and flash a new ROM...

3.0.0.5 is only compatible with 2.3 ROMS.
use this to flash it

and you'll want to use the "from recovery" method.

Once you are done with the PD15IMG you will have to reroot your phone. IT will return it to a 100% stock fashion.
after you re-root the phone please flash the 3.0.0.6 to help save any confusion down the road.

The original 3.0.0.6 was made by option94, and you can flash it from your existing recovery or fastboot, so booting into a ROM is not necessary.

thats normal, looks exactly like the ones I had, to get into recovery you have to hook up to usb
Your bootloader is still locked. You need to unlock to get into recovery.
Edit: Oops, my bad. You don't need to be unlocked to access recovery apparently.

Cept mine doesn't. When I select recovery mode it hangs at INI (white Google on a black background)
If you think the recovery is borked and want to reflash it , download the factory image from here, extract recovery.img from the image and put it in your platform-tools folder on your PC in ADB and once you are in bootloader from cmd prompt type
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
that is how I go back and forth between CWM and stock

Ok, First things first.
1) Go to settings --> about tablet --> tap build number 10 times and you will unlock developer options.
2) Backup to Developer options and check that usb debugging is on.
3) Power off the device. Then press and hold the volume up button and press and hold the power button at the same time till it boots into the bootloader. Then you have approx. 5 seconds to make a choice or it will continue to boot to the normal desktop. You don't have to select the choice, just press the volume keys to any choice to halt the timer.
4) On the computer, open cmd and go to the directory with adb.exe and fastboot.exe are located. Type adb devices to see if you get a response with a bunch of numbers followed by device.
5) On the device, press the volume key to highlight reboot fastboot, then press power button to select. You should be in fastboot.
6) On the computer type fastboot oem unlock and profit!!!!
Super tool does the same thing, plus a lot more, all automated for convenience.

There!!!!
That's your problem.
When the phone is off and and u press volume up and power, it boots the device in safe mode.
Safe mode disables 3rd party apps at boot up.
Now this only works with stock ROMs and some custom sense ROMs.
If your ROM doesn't support this feature, it would boot into this black screen and begin to flash the red led.
So when the up key gets stuck or malfunctioned it causes the device to boot into that mode at start up.
But what I can rap my head around is why it won't boot into bootloader when you use adb.

If you can access TWRP recovery, you can shutdown your phone by going Reboot > Power Off.
Yes but you dont understand.the guidlines are very spacific that after all the fastboot flashing and final step says that after all flashing it says okay and to immediately power down either by removing battery or in my case with a rogers lg g2 where baterry removal is not an option it says type last command fastboot reboot and hold power while the phone powers down.but it will not power down while still plugged into usb port.well that cant happen as it loops itself.and same thing while i do button combo to get into twrp.i can do all the above no problem if the usb cord is not attached only when i unplug the usb it allows me to do combo and get recovery.i just cant get passed that point where all flashes okay and power down while still plugged in.omg this is frustrating.im gonna throw this damn phone out the window lol
