[Q] usb internet - Android Software Development

Hi,
I'm looking for an app that can make "internet over usb" work.
Not the tethering way, but the reverse way.. I googled and searched a lot of topics but cannot find how to do this...
tx!

nobody? :s

I have this in my bookmarks: http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html
Haven't tested yet though, because the custom rom I'm using doesn't have the required option. And if you look at the comments, many problems with this, like non-working market app. It's quite weird that Android doesn't have proper support for this, other vendors have had it for years.

You didn't read enough or search enough and with an attitude like that I wouldn't help you anyway. The methods are here if you look around.

No he's not a smart a**. He's actually a quite helpful member of this forum. His suggestion to search is that standard answer by anyone who's been around and/or contributed to this forum for any amount of time.
The point of the Search function is to try and get newbies and the inexperianced to look for the answers themselves and not make other members repeat the same information over and over for every new member that is either too lazy to search and read or just doesn't know that the Search function exists. The information posted here is so far and above what your carrier or software or hardware vendor could provide you for any price and it's available for FREE. So respect the forum and respect the members or go call your service provider for answers. (HA)
You are in no position to tell anyone, especially a Senior member to "shut up" if they don't have an answer.

@evilhomer - thanks for the support.
@wratran - so the seaching or reading is working for you obviously since you found one of those links I was talking about.
To the topic - I wish we could get the UA bypassed in WM6 PIE since I do not like NetFront. I think pappl is looking into it.

wpbear, have you tried this solution to the UA problem? PAPPL and some Europe users were having the same issues and he made a .zip with some files to replace the default files that are keeping PIE from sending out the changed UA in the registry

I am happy to report this works and I will be posting two cabs shortly to make this install the two files and make the reg fix. One cab will be just the fix and the other will be a realplayer all in one fix.
EDIT: Here are the CABS
EDIT- Cabs removed- the fix by pappl causes some to have email problems. If you still want his fix since it works for most people then go to his thread.
Glad it works for Cingular Video as well. Nice work making the .cab files!

Exactly what has changed in this forum when people who are upstanding members of this community, like wpbear are put down and attacked by "big shots" who want to show they are better than the others on here? wpbear's comments were valid and to the point. It's really quite annoying on a **developers** web site to have the same questions asked over and over again. wratran--get over yourself. So, you can search. Yay. How about you post the results of your search without the person attacks next time, huh?
This forum is NOT for kiddies who are just learning how to make a phone call. It is, in my opinion, a forum designed for DEVELOPERS who actually understand what they are doing! There are n00bie forums around that will fit you better. HowardForums.com comes to mind...
I rest my case....
you noticed wpbear finally post a link to help a member...instead of making smart AS* remark. Look at his first response after the question was asked...and see how obnixious he was...
The search function on this forum does not work very well. I did not get that link by using the search command.
Since I have still not upgraded to WM6 (holding out for WMXL 3.0), I can confirm it works on WM5 AKU 3.3 with PIE. Awesome work guys, I really didn't like Netfront and now it's bye-bye gone!
Huge problem with this fix with outlook email not opening. Email list opens and then the message will try to open but it freezes. Have to close poutlook to get out of it and still can't view emails until HR. I veriefied it is was by installing each app I Had one a a time. I havenot tried this again with the manuall fix and checking email. I will try later.
Edit-The webview dll is causing the email and sms problem but without it the favorites links in pie do not work.
Ugh... yeah, I can definitely confirm that problem!
Is it possible to fix without a hard reset? (I haven't looked inside your cab yet.) I just got all my apps reinstalled and set up on the latest LVSW!
some reason i did not have the outlook problems.
i am using wm6 black 1.2 version with netfront 3.3 and shogun realplayer. i followed the instruction from lokemup and it works.
to many things to comment on here... so i will just tell everyone to place nice or i will lock this thread, since there was already a massive thread on this....

Help with AT&T 8525

Hi everyone
I just purchased this phone or pda off ebay and I am going to be signing up with att. Right now I can use it because I have been given 30 day trial. I love it but I am having trouble with some aspects of it. There is so much to know. One of the problems I have had is sending email through ebay. I bougth this to do business. If i try to answer a question through my ebay messages when I push to send the reply message nothing happens. I also try to access tmobile to make a payment and when i enter password and log on it wont log on, the page just sits there. Are there tweak for this. Also on craiglist I tried to post an ad an when I went to post it I got a message that said unable to process request. Any help or suggestion fo my new phone in reagrd to tweaking it will help. I have also noticed that aol messages loads slowly on egde. Are there any tweaks for this. It can take forever. I know I have a lot to lear and this is my first smatphone and I am excited about it but I am also lost. Thanks in advance for any sugestion or help

first thing to do is to start looking at custom Roms, the operating system of your device, and find one that will do what you are looking for.
then if you decide to upgrade, then read this very closely and follow the instruction to the letter,
http://www.pocketpcaddict.com/forum...-unlocking-cid-unlocking-wm6-your-8525-a.html
I am using this one and it works great, it resolved all my issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334946
the search on these two site are great, BTw welcome onboard .
most of the problems that you mentioned could just be a browser problem, lots of pages dont work the same, but the general consensus is that PIE blows, you might want to try a different browser. opera, and opera mini seems to be very popular. I feel obligated to mention menneisyys' guides on browser which you can find in the wiki (otherwise he's gonna butt in and mention it himself in this thread ).
Thank you so much. I believe I have WM6 on my device Im not sure if it came from att or was downloaded. How would I check to see if WM6 is on my phone. If it is do I go to the next step and install Olipro v7 2.10 I guess this replaces PIE if im right. Im learning but slowly. Thank you again this is helping me tremendously

those links are all about flashing roms, and i dont think you want to go that route yet. learn how to use your device first, only then you can start looking at upgrading roms.

I will definitly take your advice on that and stay clar of that.
Another great tool to use to learn, is to click the "New Posts" button at the top, and read posts that related to the (8525) Hermes forums, even if you do not understand just what they are discussing, in time you will pick up a lot of a useful info.
This is what i do several times a week in the evenings.

Searching Friends problem on Facebook by using my HD2

hey guys,
I'm trying to add some new friends from Facebook by my HD2, but I can't search any new friends!! ;(
However, it works on IPhone but why not windows phone.
Anyone know about these?
Let me know Please
Thank u in advance
anyone can help??
You've not given us enough information to help you.
How are you trying to add friends? How do you expect it to work, and in what way does it not?
Incidentally, silly comments like "it works on my iPhone" will get you nothing other than silly comments like "use your iPhone then".

Thanks John,
Well, i go to "Friends" Tag, and click "Search" then i input the person's name which i'm trying to search, however, there is no other results come out apart from the person which i have added.
But my friend show me on his IPhone, once he input the name and then click search, there are numbers of results come out even he didn't add.
Did i make it a bit clear now??
Very Sorry if i confuse you guys, because English is not my first language
I have had this problem before on my TP2, it will search for people in my friends but not people I do not know.
Never managed to get to the bottom of why this happens, Sorry.
As far as I'm aware, the search function is for searching within your friends, not for searching for new friends. I don't think you can do that with the application.
The application is not meant to be a replacement for the facebook website, but rather a sort of middleware app that gets information from the site for you, and allows you to do some minor updates.
You'll still need to use the main site to do lots of things.
If it helps, you can use http://m.facebook.com/ on the phone to get the mobile version, which is a lot lighter than the full version and doesn't use any ajax or flash (which would slow the browser down considerably!)
Hope this helps

How about using the search function, looking at the stickys and using Google to find the answers to your questions? It gets a bit redundant replying to the same questions from lazy people that cannot be bothered to invest some time into the forum.
If you don't want to answer the question then perhaps you should save your time even more and not reply? I'm no stranger to forums, but I do find this one particularly hard to follow/read/search.
From what I understand of how search engines work (for example Google's pagerank system) the search results would be dramatically improved if people posted links to relevant pages. This would also be a much better use of time than repeatedly having a go at new visitors for not searching. The more places that point to the answers, the easier it is to find them.
Some people are also happy to reply, because they know the answer straight away and it will take 60 seconds to reply. I don't see that it hurts to ask, in the hope that it will avoid 30 minutes of searching, which of course, is probably going on at the same time. If you are looking for something, do you not ask around whist you look yourself?
Anyway, more constructively back to the original question... @curtismeulen
Basically the ROM is the operating system that your phone runs on. You can install apps on to your phone (which mostly come in .CAB files) and most ROM come with a load of apps preinstalled.
HTC make the standard ROM for the HD2, but also phone companies (O2, T-mobile, etc) make slightly customised versions for the phones they sell themselves, - for e.g. adding/removing particular apps, or a special startup screen or background image, etc. If you have one of these kind of ROMs then you can't install the HTC one without running special programs.
The third kind of ROMs are 'custom ROMs' made by experts who want to always have the cutting edge software, have the phoen set up exactly as they prefer and to improve on what HTC do. Again special programs are required to install these, and always when you install a new ROM there's the risk of something going wrong and your phone not working any more.
Here's some links to useful info:
The HD2/Leo page on this sites wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Leo
a list of ROMs for the HD2 (though it's not quite up to date):
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Leo/ROMs
Stuff about installing different ROMs:
Changing "official ROMs" from one to another: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591314
Installing any ROM you like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=606713
Personally I use this ROM:
Artemis HD2 ROM Family Ver 15.5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
The instructions there are also quite useful to give you an idea of the differences between ROMs, etc.

Don't be obtuse, the stickys tell you everything you need to know with regards to ROMs and ROM flashing. Google search 'ps1 emulator for windows mobile' and FPSEce and a number of other emulators are listed in the first link.
It probably took him longer to register to ask the question than it would have done to research it for himself.
I dont undertstand why people get so offensive, i thought forums like these were made to help people with questions, even noobs?

Actually, this forum is call xda "DEVELOPERS".... name clearly means it's full of developers.... not really a place for newbies. There are plenty of help forums out there. This forum is for the advanced user who wants to learn to hack and help develop. I didn't even post for the first year or 2 that I was a member... not until I felt comfortable with my knowledge. I used other help forums that are meant for newbie questions and just watched and learned from this forum.

Actually ROM is Read Only Memory
It has come to be used as short form for the coded OS that is used in the ROM and that specifically is the "ROM image" of the OS in use.
So any cooked (or otherwise) "ROM" we are talking about is not the same as the "ROM" within the device.
...and even though it's called read only memory, it can still be written to, otherwise we'd not be able to install different kinds of operating system, etc. So to me it's an arbitrary set of letters used to describe something that's vaguely relevant to the original usage of them!

You don't install anything to the ROM.
ROMs are flashable, which is different to installing things to. OSs are flashed, not installed, to devices.
The internal memory part of the device is different to the ROM, it is an 'open' writable section. It may well be on the same memory chip, but is different in terms of usage available to it.

And as a follow on from rp-x1 and also as a quick history lesson to you "youngsters" the correct term is actually "EPROM" chips (Electronically Programmable Read Only Memory) and when they were first used you couldn't write to them unless you had the appropriate equipment and that included UV "fixing ovens"!!!!!!
So, it's not an arbitrary set of letters, but, more a corruption of a very precise acronym which is now used in completely the wrong way.

What happened to Sashimi???

I am looking for something to automate my email settings after flashing. Sashimi seemed to be the software that would do the trick. Seems like it dropped off the face of the earth. Author is banned here and the winmob experts website that he moved to is gone altogether.
Anyone know if this software is still available or is there something that will do the same thing that is current.
Thanks
Paul
Am also wondering. Have the experts on xda transitioned to something other than Sashimi?
It's your lucky day, a guy just near there have posted a modified version :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9303770#post9303770
Disclaimer : I haven't tested this one, so i can't tell if it's crap or not...
Sashimi still standard??
Is Sashimi still the defacto standard being used ? I know SPBclone is the pro cloning/imaging sw, but i figured developers would constantly be tweaking a similar solution.
FYI some Tutorial Vids that might be of interest to anyone in my point in this learning curve. I found them of interest @ least These will have links to the rest available on Youtube
oops - seems as a new user i cant share the links w/u but search for 'winmoexperts' on youtube and u will see
thnx again all - site has been very educational
very nice, thank you buddy
