Another launcher thread.. and GREAT app find - Hero CDMA General

So I got bored with AdwEx and decided to go with LPP. Just wanted to see how many others use the 3d app drawer? I have to admit its smoother than Adw's. Only compliant is the dock. I prefer it smaller in size and Adw lets you adjust that. Other than that it runs smaller than Adw which is nice. By 2 MB big deal right? Biggest plus for me and LPP is the Nexus like 3d app drawer. Scrolls smoothly.
On another note as per my topic a kick ass app recommended to me by coffeehandle called screen off and lock. Market search brings it right up. SAME exact CRT animation but with sound!! And other animations. Downfall is it's uses a button on your homescreen and not with the power but I got used to it real quick. If you liked CRT screen off animation and got bored try this app. Guarantee you'll love it all over again.
Again big credit to coffeehandle for the find.

You could remap the button to launch the app, just nand first.

I just switched to launcher pro a few weeks ago for the 3d drawer. It's works great. Sometimes I just flick it up and down for fun

I have the paid version, so I like the widgets. But LP just always felt a little more well done IMO. Not that ADW is bad, it just felt a little sloppy despite all the features it had.
If u dont pay then they r equal...u can resize widgets in adw for free

ADW seems slow as HELL. Launcher Pro is snappy, and I like the 3D drawer.
Who knows. I tried ADW before LP and immediately developed a distaste for it. Tried LauncherPro later on and immediately fell in love.
LauncherPro has better customization.. unless adw has implemented more since I last used it..
Being able to set your own dock background and icons is nice instead of having to chose a theme.
And LP is a lot smoother. There are settings around here to make adw smoother, but LP still feels better.
And one more reason for me, I like the 3d app drawer.

It's awesome.
Launcher pro is 20x smoother, ADW is REALLY choppy. No clue why.
I used ADW for a couple of months and really liked it, but LP is much faster. Some of the new benefits I'm enjoying with LP are faster home screen rotation, smoother scrolling and animations when opening and closing apps from the home screen.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I use LP just for the ease of customizability that ADW just doesnt seem to have
I use LP for the same reasons most people do. It's smoother than ADW out of the box. While on that subject, there are ways to set ADW to smoother operation but I don't want to fiddle with things out of the box to make them work.
I also prefer the 3 dock style of LP, it gives more options over ADW's slide up dock. Personal preference but the more quick launch options I have at my finger tips, the less messy my screens are. I prefer minimalistic setups.
The widget development by Fede is great. I don't make a lot of use of widgets personally but his work to make functional, good looking widgets is worth the few bucks for the program.
And I follow both devs on twitter and to be honest, the ADW dev seems a bit off. He's said a enough things about how hackish his program is or how he doesn't know what he's doing to make me wonder why I should use it.
Oh and the LP dev is working on a full rewrite to make his launcher more stable, faster, and expandable. I'm very excited for that product when it comes out.
i tried LauncherPro and completely fell in love with it. it does everything i need it to, it does it well and while looking nice.
why even try ADW at that point?
I tried both and switched between them every few days for a few weeks just to get a real feel for both of them. I really like LP much better than ADW. LP seems better for customizing to each individuals preferences and it seems faster and smoother. LP makes everyday use with my Evo so much easier and much more enjoyable...

hey thanks...
it is interesting...
I like it for the multiple docks, and the dock swipe actions.
I love Lp, so much better than ADW, I tried both for about a week & was more comfortable with Laucher Pro because its easier to customize, i like the dock that you can put apps where you want them, plus the additional swipe actions, love the 3D draw, all my friends say its so cool. And now the widgets that he has added are even beter. Plus a complete rewrite comoing soon, so he can better customize it with our ideas we give him.

Well it wasn't playing on an actual phone as you could see. Can't say anything about the smoothness untill you try it on your own phone Or did you already? I'm gonna try it out!
EDIT: I was right. Super smooth scrolling on homescreen and app drawer
EDIT2: The 3D app drawer wasn't as smooth but still smoother than in the video. Without the effect it's superb!
Interesting notes:
- You can set the app drawer background to transparent so it displays your wallpaper behind but reduces performance.
- Couldn't find an option to change the dock background easily, annoying.
- There are 8 different home screen scrolling transitions which all work perfectly smooth.
- There is no option to change app drawer / app opening transition, so you always get the zoom effect.
- 3D app drawer isn't perfectly smooth.
- It stutters for a fraction of second every time you open an app.
Other than that it's very nice launcher I'm still sticking to Launcher Pro because it's still much faster and because I have only one homescreen so I don't benefit from the cool transitions and stuff.
it's awesome !!!
thanks man, gonna try it now!
erm, how to change the number of homescreens?
i don't usually use 5 screens
With free versions he means normal ADW? I'd like to try it but I'm not gonna buy it without a trial longer than 15minutes.
When I scan the barcode it just says it can't be found...? sigh...
EDIT: Nevermind, played around with Market Enabler and got it

I doubt it. I care for speed more than for fancy transitions and I already bought Launcher Pro Plus. Also using the calender widget from that.
// Tried it, back to LP.
I bought it:
2 problems, ADW freeze two times so I should reboot. and when I put a widget I can't delete ???
I doubt I'll ever use any other launched after buying this. Always liked ADW more then LP, but now, words cannot explain the love for Ander after this beauty

I tried it it´s just so amazingly fast and nice to watch.
Is there a way of loading the sense apps though?
It must have setting to change the icon of folder, sort icons, quick manager icons & folder.
I dont see myself buying it for now, I might not like it. Right now Im still enjoying the original SENSE and I have LP Pro so meh

Awesome launcher. I love the icon backgrounds/settings (gives icons a much more consistent look and size). Been using it a couple of days with Oxygen 2.0 RC with no problems at all. Its smooth and fast.
Worth every penny.
any way to set the number of screens to 2 instead of the default 5??

Best Custom luncher App

Hi, everyone
I am new to android and smartphones. I bought an Atrix and will be getting rid of my dumbphone.
I do not really like Motoblur (its okay, but I read that lunchers are MUCH smoother and also gives you alot more options to customize).
From what I can tell, the two big players are
- LauncherPro
- AWD Launcher
I would like to hear what you guys think of those and what are thier Pros/Cons if any?
Thanks in advance
I like LauncherPro. It's super fast and has lots of cool features. ADW lets you drag and drop onto the launcher which is really annoying to me. I was constantly flinging apps on to and off of it. Hope that helps.

Launcher Pro is great for it's speed. I like Zeam because it lets you config the swipe up (open dialer) and swipe down (bring status screen down) on the front screens.

how? the closest I've found is the gestures on the buttons at the bottom. I can't find anything that lets me swipe the middle (empty) part of my screens and have it do anything (I keep my icons on the top and bottom rows so I have 2 rows with which to do that swipe).
I'll be very honest, I always seem to come back to Zeam.
It's light and fast and does the job a launcher should do and more...just lighter and faster.
The one thing I realized I couldn't live without was the double-tap action that you can set. I set it to expand my notifications, so now, instead of having to trek my wee thumb all the way up to the notifications bar and pull it down, I just double tap an empty spot on my screen and down it comes!
I've tried GO Launcher and LP...I don't know. Zeam is just the bees knees.
I had Launcher Pro Plus on my Droid and loved it so much that when I switched to the Atrix, it was the first app I put on the phone. I've fooled around with ADW in the past, but was never a big fan.
i prefer Launcher pro for speed and ADW.Launcher for drag and drop feature.
ADW also support widget resizing in free version.
Better Theming support for ADW
It is not as fast as Launcher pro but im still using ADW as it is very easy and fast to customize (change shortcuts and their icons)
i will switch to launcher pro when they add drag and drop to app drawer support (dunno if they already incorporated that since i haven't tried for atleast 3months now )
Well I use Zeam right now on my Nexus one and love it; very clean and fast.
The customization features are a little lacking (arranging of different pages after they're already made) but the speed and lightness of the overall package makes up for it.
I like the speed and feel of ADW Es but switched to Launch Pro Plus because of the widgets.
Launcher pro. Fastest, most consistent and smooth.

I use GoLauncher EX. Today it received a feature of looping homescreens. Best. Feature. Ever.
I tested both ADW and launcher pro when I first got the phone and end up getting the paid version of launcher pro. This is my first android phone, so I was learning a lot about it when I made the choice... honestly don't remember exactly why I chose launcher pro. I think I just generally liked the feel and some of the customization features, as well as widgets.

i have had all 3, LPP, ADW Ex, GO Launcher
Launcher Pro Plus feels bulky, although it might not be
ADW Ex is very easy to use / setup, but i still feel something is missing, I was an ADW fan until i tried Go launcher 2 days ago
I like GO launcher the best, its free first of all, then it got nice folder icons, easy to delete programs in app drawer, kill active background programs in a flash, and dont forget the promise weekly update
lets just say i m now a Go launcher fan, freaking awesome combo together with GO SMS
I'm an ADW Ex guy.
love the easy resizeable widgets, have multiple columns and rows, animation transitions, awesome secret dockbar, easy to drop icons on dock, customizable docks.., move pages around, delete pages around etc.
It's fast for me :/ I dunno why it's not fast for people. :x but we all have preferences.
I do like the widgets on LP+ .. one thing i like about it
for GO, I like the app menu because it has so much more than a regular app drawer
:x
Just to clarify, you can get widgets such as beautiful widgets and the likes with custom launcheDO any of those launchers have GPU accelarated UIs?

Just installed zeam, like the clean and simple menu look. One question, any way to change the icons in the dock?
after trying launcher pro i came right back to motoblur. yea, its not as fast (although i didn't notice any slowdowns) but it looks a lot better. there is a reason why they fixed up the interface. Motorola did a slick job on this phone.

VIPERrom Anarchy Launcher = ewwww

I like the VIPERrom but anarchy launcher sucks!! is there a reason it wont let me use TouchWiz?? I mean it works but I cant go in to the settings to add/remove screens and what not... just fc's

Meh.
Ive used em all extensively, and I still feel launcher pro is the best. Uses less memory, screen transitions are smooth as silk. And just the shear screen responsiveness. No other launcher have i found that I can just flick my finger the tiniest of increments and I'm flying through screens at will.
Plus their fancy transitions aren't nearly as laggy. I use rotate exclusively.

Simple, very customizable, user assignable swype gestures, lots of flexibility. The dock is customizable as well FWIW..
EDIT: forgot to add that it performs well in landscape mode AND offers full screen for those (like me) that like full screen
just sayin'

Launcher talk

With some of the launcher talk recently I thought I'd ask if anyone's tried Go Launcher EX? Free from the market and IMO is better than Adw EX in someways. I really like adw's drawer but the roll transition between home screens of Go keeps me hooked and the ability to hide apps in the drawer. Ill show my phone to a buddy and automatically want me to give them some apks from mine. No. Support the dev and buy it. So instead of being a douche I can hide my good apps and the Go launcher app in the drawer and my point of supporting the dev happens anyways. I understand why the dev would put a home button in the drawer because most don't realize what they're downloading and can't figure out how to press the home button. But its nice to hide it.
In aosp's thread I know most of you are partial to adw and lpp and a few of us old zeam fans still exist but I'm really liking Go. Ymmv. Just thought I'd throw it out there.
®parallel universe®
You know I love adw EX, and just wanna let you know a couple things You can't "hide" apps in the drawer, BUT you can create a new "catalog" of a custom app list for your drawer, which effectively does the same thing, I have one called "apps" and one called "games". Also, I don't know what "roll" screen transition is, but if it's something like a 3D cube, the new update to 1.3.2 and higher in adw EX now includes that, and an "inverse" version of the same transition, it's pretty sweet.

I was going through a "flash" withdrawal ... so, thought I would give GO a try yesterday. It's not bad, but I don't seem to use all the "customizations". Yes, Go does have some nice screen animations... but it's only good for a while, then you get bored. I much rather have something responsive over eye candy ;-).
So, I much rather use Zeam... light weight and does the job for me.
remember open home and home++ from back in the day lol
those were pretty awefull

Schweetness I didn't play around enough then. The roll effect is like throwing a sheet of paper. Its spins sort of center of the screen. Cosmetic but it's smooth and runs low. Hopefully the dev from adw gets my email about that effect. It's really the only thing keeping me to Go now that duce mentioned you can catalog the app drawer.

I think adw has that too. There's like 10 animations you can choose. They are:
- tilt
- fly in
- rotate
- zoom
- catalog
- tumble
- curve
- cards
- cube
- cube inverse
- wheel
I bet there's a youtube video, check it out.
Tumble was the closest one to it. Gonna try it out for a day or two and update. Ill probably be converted
Correction: Tumble is right on. I just had fling speed set too high and forgot the app drawer is the biggest improvement. Just awesome.

I have been converted. Adw ex is the new launcher of choice.
