Has anybody tested the gps out on the retail tab? If it's like my captivate I'll stay away, if it works well I'm going to have to get one.
Thanks

I've got a retail from June 8th and I'm not sure wether or not GPS works. I've enabled it and the status bar icon shows up but I don't think it ever finds any satellites. I've got GPS test installed and it doesn't have any GPS show up.
so is there a GPS in the device?
10.1v works like a charm. 100% good
I hope it works as well. I rarely was able to get on a lock on satellites with the Iconia. I'm hoping the GT will do a better job.
Just fired up my 10.1 I/O and the GPS-Status app found 9 satellites in 5 seconds.
Retail version - GPS is working!
Thanks for conforming guys !!

My GPS works fine. Retail. Got mine early.
I had a retail version to review and GPS seemed to work fine for me. Of course, lock on works best outside in clear spaces away from tall buildings (ie not between buildings in a large city)

Gps works fine here too, althouh i also have an external bluetooth gps that ill probably use with it for better battery and accuracy.

PImping GPS here, looks on, in doors to 30 feet by the time the splash screen on GPS Test goes away. and I thought i had the gps on my Vibrant dialed in good.

What I'm most curious about is the GPS, since Samsung did design the phone does it have the same issues with GPS as the Galaxy S does..
I know we probably won't know until next week, but still curious.

I am pretty damn sure that the issue has been resolved, i mean it would be absolutely stupid if they didnt
I'd hope so, but then again. The original I9000 Galaxy S phone shipped with broken GPS and then when they came to the US, they had broken GPS...
But in the end, software tweaks fixed most of the GPS issues if you had a rooted phone.
Yea my vibrant GPS is fine now but when on jfd firmware GPS and compass were faulty but was only software related.
But even now with everything working I noticed that my GPS and phone antenna interfere cuz putting my phone in flightmode makes GPS much more accurate so I'm thinking this s why they replaced the antennas.
But yea GPS should be fine on NS
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The GPS chip in the NS is different from the SGS series. It'll work just fine.
Acording to FCC they changed the antenna

Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes they changed the antenna. The Vibrant's GPS works anywhere, hard-ware wise. It was just some of the software builds that it didn't work on.
I just read a review that stated gps worked "flawlessly"
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Which review?
Engadget did a review but stupidly did not test the GPS. What a shame review.

Il do some searching and try to find it. I don't think it talked about the gps it just had a little headline in the middle that said wifi and gps work flawlessly.

Hi,
On my tab, the gps lock in Google maps or any other maps seems kinda slow when compared to that of my HD2 running WM6.5...also, it seems to lose the gps connection quite often when driving around and then takes a lot of time to lock back in.
Anyone else noticed this? And any way of improving the gps lock? A nudge in the right direction would be really helpful.
Thanks

I thought my DroidX was slow. It now seems fast compared to the tab.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy Tab
My hd2 is faster then my tab too but my tab is fast enough and dont loose signal
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I did a direct comparison of the Tab versus my Nexus 1, without fail the N1 would find more satellites, and find them faster, than the Tab does. Seems odd as I would've thought the Tab would have a larger antenna for such things.
Data on / wifi on? A-GPS and GPS or just GPS.
Makes a big difference on mine for sat-fix time.
I find the lock on my Tab QUITE fast... usually within 10 seconds. I even get locks inside my home sometimes (allbeit weak)
When Im using it as a gps unit in my car it more or less locks on by the time the route is finished calculating in Navigator.
Mine takes its time to get the satellites but once is done it works like a charm. Unlike my galaxy s wich get the satellites very fast but looses signal very often and has no precision at all.

Are you all using jm6 or jma sine you started to have slow GPS lock time?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
mine locks with 10 satellites in less than 15 secs inside house. JM6
@vs2 - tried with both gps and data on...
@clubtech - am in India and the latest firmware update released for my region is JK3 (which I updated yesterday)...does that make a difference?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
@spirit - I get a lock of 4-7 satelites outside in non-obstructed space at Max...that too drops down quickly to 3/4...

I know the Samsung Galaxy S series aren't too stellar when using GPS; how is it on the S3?

Haven't tested it on a drive yet. But it came up and hooked up virtually instantly in maps today. From inside my house. Never able to even hook up on my Captivate in the house, let alone quickly.
Fingers crossed...
Used it today for about 50 miles and it never dropped once. Did awesome. I was so used to my old captivate I almost forgot that a phone GPS can actually work.
It locks fast and stays locked
It was just the galaxy s 1 that had this issue. Sgs2 gps worked perfectly and same with sgs3 both lte and international

I used the Charing Cross app to test, and it was impressive for the number of satellites detected in my area which is partially blocked due to a hill, but it took a minute or two to go from accuracy of 260 ft down to 9.1ft. I had a Google maps navigation started cold, that showed my start a block away from where my blue arrow was actually located on the map.

On the official Samsung site, it says GPS, rather than a-GPS. I did test it here in San Diego - cached my area, airplane mode, reboot, and maps got a tight fix on me in under a minute (closer to about 20 seconds).

Absolutely fantastic. Best I have ever seen. Phone saw 20 Sats and was able to lock in on 12 in about 15 seconds. Within 9 feet accuracy which is best I've seen here in Hawaii.
Hey guys. Really really love my new n7 its amazing.
Of course the moment I got it home I rooted it and installed a few roms! You just have to!
I'm currently on paranoid android 2.23 with no kernel change.
My issue is this: my GPS won't lock at all! Google maps with GPS enabled without wifi always returns location unavailable.
I'm almost 100% sure the nexus has GPS so what's the problem?
Anyone having this issue or any solutions?

Is wifi location turned off in your location settings?
Might try to reflsh cm10 maybe but pa uses same base...
Hmm... anyone using pa with GPS working?

I can second that, it runs perfectly. Try a clean install.
Try GPS Status from the market and go to tools and erase the location assistant data then download assistance. Also GPS Status also shows you if you are picking up satellites and just not getting a lock. If you get even one lock just be patient and you will get the other ones you need eventually.
Your first lock in awhile is going to take longer because the GPS logic assumes you have changed locations and does a cold start up.
Give it some help and go outside with at least a decent look at the sky keep it in one place.
I haven't had top do this in a long time but sometimes if I had toggled GPS from on to off I wouldn't get a lock but rebooting with GPS toggled on would fix it.
And a few times reflashing the same kernel would fix a flakey GPS

GPS status is pretty good app! Thank you for suggesting it.
GPS status showed 9 sat and 9 locks, but maps didn't work still.
I then did the reset and download and now maps locks me and shows location.
Thank you!
This might be a little off topic but what exactly does the assistant data do?

I'm not getting great gps accuracy with this phone. Usually between 16-30 feet. My other devices are accurate up to 3 feet. I'm wondering what everyone else is getting with this phone. Using GPS status from the play store.
I just tested. I'm getting 10-12 feet.

gps signal drops
I noticed that when I am using a map program like Waze or google Maps, the gps signal gets lost more often than when I had the Note 3.

That's GPS Test /GPS Test +(paid). Great app.
I've noticed this as well when playing the game ingress. I wonder if it's due to the steel frame? My Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S5 was spot on.
Hmm.
Never thought about that.
My GPS does seem to perform better now that I have FireKat ROM on my phone.
Re tested.
Rooted running Firekat ROM and using some tweaks from the lag thread. GPS assist is running in the background.

I too tested it on FireKat and got the same results. 10 ft. Makes me think it can be enhanced by a software update. Maybe in a future patch.

Depends on your location and how many satellites are in sight but ~3 meters/~9 feet is about as good as it's going to get with just GPS. Maybe if phone locks into some Glonass satellites it could do a bit better.

I made a change on the WiFi settings and my GPS signal improved. I put a check on "Always Allow Scanning." Because I remembered that I had taken it off to try another app and that was around the time that GPS stopped working correctly.
go to Settings>Wi-Fi>Advanced>Always Allow Scanning; Put a check on this option.
Google maps says GPS signal lost a lot with the note 4... doesn't seem very good at getting a location.
Definitely love the phone. Came from the s4. My first note. Thought I was the only one that noticed crappy GPS signal

I checked the scanning off because when driving using the maps WiFi spots pop up and I can't see where I'm going. LoL
To all those who saying they don't have issues with the GPS they probably don't use it enough to see that.
