KE7 canceled in Netherlands - Galaxy S II General

Hi,
I don't know wether there's a problem with the KE7 update or wether there's a problem at Samsung NL but the KE7 update for dutch devices has been canceled.
http://twitter.com/#!/SamsungMobileNL/status/80985573371813889
This is rather strange because the update is being actively rolled out all around the globe except for NL.

There is a good reason it's been pulled.

My guess is because the new 2.3.4. ROM is imminent. What's your guess or do you actually know?

I believe music player soft-bouncing the phone and the modem 4G hang-ups are some of the issues?

Well that's strange because the KE7 update is still being distributed in other countries. If there are problems with it one would expect Samsung to pull the update entirely from all countries.

Ding ding ding... Barry wins the prize!

That would be awesome, I vote for Barry ^_^.
I was already wondering when the update was going to appear for my NL imported SGS2. Hopefully the waiting time wont be long

I don't think it's because of an expected 2.3.4 update. This issue has been living for a few weeks now and only yesterday Samsung NL confirmed it was cancelled. Before that they insisted KE7 could be downloaded through Kies.
I don't think Samsung NL has any say over when firmware updates get released. Either that or there was a huge miscommunication.

It could be a specific network problem, eg last month the vodaphone network made many htc phones reboot all the time or a while ago when an apple update made iphones with certain dutch sims crash

Well... if i could only get KE3 or something in between KE2 and KE7!!
Here in Denmark, we are somehow forgotten - we are still running on KE2 and some of the old updates of the camera...
Also - no NFC-version of SGS2 for our country, as the Nexus 2 has sold badly (because of the LCD-screen installed opposed to the AMOLED, but still full price), and because of NFC is non-existent here (we have our own national travellers-card, which is very close to NFC-technology).
But the GT-i9100 has sold in great numbers, and is almost sold out anywere. So it seems odd to be left in the cold, when it comes to new updates...

No country has NFC. Google has announced they will introduce a new service which will require a special simcard to use. It would be unsensible to put NFC in the device when the standard isn't there yet and your NFC is goign to be useless down the road.

Also running KE2 on my NL imported SGS2.
I checked http://twitter.com/#!/SamsungMobileNL if they gave some more info but no reason is mentioned why they pulled it back.

I'm on the Spanish generic FOP sales code. They were nice enough to give us KE2. You could probably debrand to FOP, still keeping it region-specific but maybe getting slightly quicker updates.

Look at the bright side.
I still prefer something more stable above something with issues , even when some things get upgraded I am sure Samsung knows what it is doing.
Since you have a carrier provided phone you are more or less more screwed than the people who have a carrier free unlocked phone.
Anyway nothing we can do but wait and inform each other , it's good to know there are still people without the updates ^^

Of course there are. Only the UK and India did get official KE7/KE8 updates through KIES. Maybe I forgot one or two countries, but most countries haven't released any official updates after KE2 yet. It seems that everyone feels that they're left out or something but that's clearly not what's happening here.

Lol. Yeah, I wasn't ready to pay 650 euros for the phone I got it on contract, resigning for a year, and 280 euros. Not bad. If I ever want to, I can debrand and get it as fast as you guys ^^ But I'm not interested in doing that at the moment. Not even rooting! My phone is fantastic. I have no issues apart from the wifi sharing / battery life debacle, but not even your KF1 fixes that at the moment! So I'm good for the time being hehe.
I absolutely love this phone. I see near 0 drawbacks (battery life being an exception, but it doesn't bother me TOO much. I get about 24 hours, maybe a little less usage).
Regardless, it's still a very new phone. Hopefully Samsung will being to push out their monthly updates soon. hehe.

Galaxy S sales so far? It seems that 1M was exceeded

http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/07/...dy-sold-samsung-wants-to-sell-9-million-more/
Just imagine the kind of support / development / roms / accessories that a phone with sales of this magnitude will get...
And I expect the pressure for GPS fix / proper Froyo support will increase. If Samsung fail on this one, they should forget about the mobile phones market...

Hmm... impressive. 5 million people that are either using a paper map or pretty much lost and asking for directions. Now that's what I call mass misguidance.

What firmware are you using?
The firmware that came with the phone when I purchased it was JF3. It was a lemon firmware. As soon as I flashed it with the latest ROMs, GPS works.
Flashed JG5, JM2, JM5. No problem with GPS. Rocket fast Android.
Did you have any probs with the europe JM5 firmwares? I wasn't game to flash with them because of any issues with getting optus to connect properly...

Congratulations, you complained about the GPS/Lag before buying the phone, trolled whilst owning it, and now, rather than moving on with your life, are trolling after selling it. In fact, the only reason you probably purchased this phone was because you like complaining.
Anyway, the GPS is currently crap (I agree), but is usable enough for my purposes (I don't rely entirely on GPS anyway, because it is possible for even more common units to mess up the position). Hopefully Samsung fulfills their promises, otherwise, they might find 4million phones returned in October (I'll be one of the people returning them).
Good on them though for getting Android out there
Sales in South Korea alone was 800,000 in 55 days.
http://www.samsunghub.com/2010/08/1...m110s-comes-to-south-korea-800000-units-sold/
That is 14,545 phones sold per day.

Wow, I don't think I've seen a post by you that isn't complaining about the GPS.
And it's pretty sad that you're so reliant on the GPS and can't live without one. Not everyone is as lost for directions as you are.
Hopefully this will mean a bunch of accessories will come out!

Do you have some kind of unusually outstanding GPS reception where you live?
I've used both JM2 and JM5 and both take ages to lock on and give that "jumpy" inaccuracy for the duration. Both of those firmwares most definitely are still vulnerable to the GPS issue. Glad to see Samsung is working on fixing the problem though.
I never experienced the jumpy behaviour of the GPS. I admit I never tried it on JF3. My phone was bought in Greece but it originally came from UK (it has a UK charger). The only difference between firmwares is the initial lock time. When used with navigon, it is always spot on.
I really am curious if all these problems with GPS exist...
guys, this is a Sales thread, let's not keep feeding the troll and turn this into a GPS thread
i'm on optus, flashed updates no probs. flashed to 2.2 no probs (rooted then did nand fix for lag).
Only thing i was annoyed with was i had to hunt the forums to redowload the "my account" app, the only useful thing optus adds.
(I do recommend the apn backup/recover app for keeping your network settings without having to manually re-eneter them)
well my upgrade was due on the 13th and i ordered the phone on the 16th from tmobile and they said the uk is all sold out and even other providers have been asking them if they could buy some so it seems uk is going mad for it but they said a fresh new batch is coming in on friday which is tomorrow so i might get the phone on monday BUT!!!! i was told theres a waiting list so i might have to wait till the next batch i cant wait any longer and im going on holiday soon and it might than come when im away GREAT!!!
GPS works fine here, since 1st day. I've only had one problem but that was cause o. HSBC froyo installed which laggggggged lol

Bell Canada finally admit the GPS bug!!!

I bought a Galaxy S from Bell Canada in august. Made the update to JH2 trough kies. Had the GPS bug (locked fine, but was sometimes way off (1-3 streets off)).
I told Bell. They said they didn't know any GPS problem affecting their device.
I tried many differents things, but I still had the problem so I recorded tracks with both my Hero and my Galaxy S to prove that the Galaxy S has a bug.
I called Samsung. I told them that I had a bug with the GPS. They said that they were not aware of any GPS bug affecting the GT-i9000M (the canadian version).
I went to Bell and asked for a repair. Seems like I was the first in Canada to report the problem because they told me again that there was no report on such problem, so it must be a specific problem with my device. They give me a Samsung Omnia II for the time of the repair. Worst touch screen ever, almost useless compared to a Galaxy S.
My device came back "repaired" (what they did was a factory reset and allegedly a ROM update, but it was JH2 before and after the repair, so this is bull****). In short they did nothing but loose my time.
Of course, I still have the exact same bug, the repair guy probably didn't even test it.
I call Bell again. Shock! Horror! They admit that there is a problem with ALL Galaxy S. Finally! Not that I told them since August... And it's not only in Canada, according to the tech support agent, it affects devices from all around the world. And that I shouldn't worry because the update to 2.2 will be released everywhere in the world in November and will fix that. Great!
Oh wait. The update to 2.2 is already released in some parts of Europe. I am not even sure that it fixes the GPS. At least I have an audio recording of Bell telling me that the bug will be fixed with an update in November. Better than nothing I guess.
+1

sorry to say but some tech reps are more informed than others because they take time to do their own independant research. One tech i talked to barley knew a thing about the galaxy S, while another rep was fascinated by it and couldnt wait to get their own. Mine is in repair for faulty internal SD, lets hope froyo will fix the gps, as i didnt send it in for that issue.
Those who know something about the Galaxy S (and other smartphones) are the so-called "data" support.

I agree data support are the only ones that know anything. I called customer service like 5 times before they gave me someone that knew anything, ala data support.

Well, I think that of course the response is "we haven't heard about any bugs". It's business -- they aren't allowed to admit to anything unless an order comes from the top to announce that a certain bug .. or a few bugs have been found. I haven't seen any admittals from Samsung that SGS is slow, laggy and the 2.2 update is crap. Or that there are any bugs at all. That would crash sales.
Same here
I got pretty much the same info. been through the same ordeal. I don't think I can last til the end of november for a maybe fix that might not fix anything or might get pushed back to january or even february or??? At least now with them endorsing the issue it should not be as hard to fight for an exchange, maybe get a Z.....

Well that's not the GPS bug I am talking about. My GPS locks just fine (as already said). The problem is that it is not always precise. But anyways xtra1.gpsonextra.net seems farther aways (mesured by ping times) than north-america.pool.ntp.org, so it should not fix anything.
And north-america.pool.ntp.org works just fine on my HTC Hero.

I am very curious as to what software you used to record that call?
You didn't use a Korean Galaxy S (SHW-M110S) by any chance, did you? Because its firmware has a native call recorder function that I would die to get my hands on, but unfortunately Samsung doesn't allow international Galaxy S users to flash to the Korean firmware Send me a PM if you know how to force flash it!

All companies do that. Focusing on all the bugs takes the attention from the good to the bad. Basic stuff. All the companies that made you any of the things you own operate on the same principle. This is business. This is life.
But this does not mean they are not working hard on fixing the issues -- believe me, they are. Our comments and complaints are very important in bringing these things out. Stuff that gets discussed here on XDA dev is _vital_.

They released an update for Kies about two weeks ago. Are you using the latest version? Also, I don't know where you got your phone but some of the Expansys USA phones were from Eastern Europe if that makes a difference.
Because I'm anal, I rebuild my phone from a factory reset when I update it. It was kind of cluttered anyway. Since I've got to go through the whole setup process I'll post any changes to apps and such as I'm slogging through it.
I know this has to have been covered in the past, but I'm struggling to understand it. I know if I update through Kies, I'll lose root. Is there a way to download this kernel and push it through Odin and not lose root? Sorry to rehash this again. Thanks.

I have the polish version also, and Kies has KF2 as the latest firmware. I tried it twice, but I had lots of problems with data and voice connection on Rogers in Canada. I hope the KF3 will fix this problem, when it is available.
Isn't kf2 much recent build than kf3? Wondering what is the advantage of updating to an older build.

Samsung Canada starts ICS rollout

The time has finally come; Samsung has started the rollout for the ICS today. This also includes ICS for the Galaxy Note.
I'm not from there, so I still have to wait, as do a lot. But some of you must be clicking the update button on their Notes right about now, if you're from that region.
Let us know how you like it, and let's hope that the rest of us will get it soon as well!
Finally!
I hope us sim-free owner are not left till last.
John.
Nice to see some update on the ICS for note. Now I am sure there would be many more stable rom's based on the new ICS by our chef's which will only improve the experience better.
Hail Samsung Hail XDA - though will have to wait until Indian version is released.
Finally, some good news about rolling out ICS for the Galaxy Note!
Who knows when will it come to Serbia and Europe, but glad to see some progress. I'm happy with the phone as it is right now but I'm excited about the update.

Totally defies logic that sim free folks get left till last.
i highly doubt they will leave us sim free/unlocked for last. Just doesn't seem right. But then again this is samsung so you never know what they'll do.
I think the phone networks help with the testing, also add branding at the same time, no help with testing sim-free phones for compatibility, that can have any networks sim card installed.

You can download Serbian firmware(4.1.2) or try selecting Serbia or US or another country that has jellybean.all of those firmwares have all languages, including yours.

They need to make translations for specific countries,or another reason.there is always paperwork, even though it is stupid, and not needed in this case.
I also do not understand the update policy from Samsung. It can not be so hard to roll out a fix for all at the same time(nearly).
i personally find Samsung update policy to be retarded. Acer were able to announce a month or so out when an update would be available, at least Acer Australia would, they might miss the mark by a week or two, but they put that out there. Samsung NZ says they are not advised of when an update will take place until the week it will be released in NZ.
At least to me this is where Apple and Windows are better, they roll out an update it goes to everyone regardless of country and carrier in the case of phones. Android the developers and the carriers screw around to where updates can take half a year to reach the product once Google release it.
weird that you have to wait 5 minutes to edit a mistake out of a post. ok for new members but when you have been a member for over a year.

Well SAMSUNG said that the 4.2 will come until September,so i am using PAC until that moment
I was talking to my friend who owns an iphone 5 and the tab 10.1,and he agreed that SAMSUNGs policy with updating, and updating between devices is crappy. And he laughed when i explained how my 2 gen tab will end on the same upgrade like his 1st gen tab :silly:
