Language Settings - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Hello!
Short question: I would import a tablet to Switzerland for a friend. Is it possible to set the tablet without rooting to german? I mean the version witch is avaiable in NYC, 32 GB with WiFi.
Thanks!
Marco

I don't know about the retail version, but the google i/o limited edition supports about 40 different languages. one of them is, of course, german. I imagine the retail version is the same.
hope that helps,
Sam

Sounds good. Thank You.
But to be sure: Anybody know now more? is it also possible with the regular buyable version?

[Q] Changing language from Chinese Traditional --> English

Hey, sorry if this has already been posted on how to change language, but i have some specific questions i would like to ask.
1) I bought the Touch HD from Taiwan and the language of it is Traditional chinese, i was actually thinking that it was an international phone and would have several languages to choose from... but apparently not.
How would i go about changing the language from chinese to english?
What would i have to do?
2) If i change the language, do i lose everything that is currently on my phone?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
You could just flash a new Rom, it will change the phone to that Rom and replace what you currently have, a lot of Roms have the same stuff just tweaked for better performance so you would not lose much.
That is assuming your not on a phone carrier plan of course, check out the different roms to suit what you want
This phone was bought outright so im assuming im not carrier locked (Kinda hard seeing as im in australia and it was bought in taiwan )
So i would have to use HardSPL?
There are two options to do it there are excellant directions for both in the ROM section I used HardSPL but the choice is yours

Changing ROM

Hi
I bought an HD2 from Ebay and have discovered it appears to be fitted with an Asian ROM (1.48.831.0 (71294) WWE). The S/N is HT9C8NWxxxxx. I tried getting the ROM upgrade from the HTC web site but it says the device is not suitable for the upgrade. The only issue I have found so far appears to be with the chinese characters on the keyboard.
Is it possible to flash the ROM to a UK version or does the hardware prevent that? If so, what stock ROM do I need?
Thanks
You can change your from to an English/UK one using the Gold Card method (check out the Rom Section under the Leo and you'll find all the information you'll need to know about it). Just to query though, have you tried going through and changing the Language and Region, as if i'm correct the WWE stands for world wide english, which should mean that you can get UK characters on your keyboard.

Many thanks for the advice.
I have the language and region set to UK but it doen't give me the different keyboard options (full, compact, etc), instead it offers me different chinese alphabets. I was also concerned in case I was prevented from getting normal updates as suggested by my experience with HTC.com.
I have exactly same problem and could not fix it. I sent a thread to the froum but with no luck

please let me know if you found any solution.
thanks,

I followed the routine in the first post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591314 and it worked fine. I used the 1.48.405.2 ROM which gives the UK profile. The only problem I had was with getting QMAT to recognise the SD card but I used itsutilsbin (see later in that thread) instead at step 3 and that seemed to work.

[Q] italian firmware sbf

does anyone have any news about the italian firmware for milestone 2.
is there a way to get a dump of the latest version of the italian fw.
the phone was announced last week and should be in stores very soon.
Since the only .sbf available were obtained on a motorola server, which is now closed, it's very unlikely that an italian firmware goes out.
At best, somebody will be kind enough to make a nandroid backup and share it.
Since uk and italy use the same keyboard layout, and same baseband frequencies, why don't you use the uk .sbf? (which surely has italian support)
it's because there are several bugs in the uk release and I know for sure that most of them were corrected with the italian version.
for example in the recent calls contact pictures are messed up (you see the wrong picture with the calls list); that was solved in the italian retail firmware.
thank you anyway for your kind answer.

[Q] Change to EU/US System on a Chinese Iconia

Hello All,
I'm a German living in China and totally addicted to this android stuff. So yesterday I bought me a Iconia. I just can say i love it after playing around a while. But there is one thing that is completely unacceptable. The Chinese version lacks all the google tools like gmail, maps, latitude and so on. I'm actually not so much interested in all these games and movies, im more the productive guy.
So here comes the question, after reading all the threads about custom boot roms I wonder whether it is possible just to dd the EU/US system.img to my device - according to the informations of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101759
Could it really be so easy or do i have to take care about other things like versions or other stuff?
Every hint will be appreciated!
It won't be easy first
And...you can brick your tab
I think the safest way is to flashfor the next update a European firmware... so if it says "update avaible" search for the same version but the EU version (here on the forum)
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Yes it can be done and it really isn't that hard if you follow the instructions in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101859
I went to a Chinese firmware and then did the US firmware following these instructions. Just one small point, make sure you have a class 4 MicroSD card before you start.
There are no problems with you doing it on your Chinese machine and it will give you the outcome you are after by providing the International apps that are on the American unit (or in my case the Australian).
Try this link.

Looks like it might be what you need. Applied it over Chinese rom and then upgraded to US stock.

Hello Guys,
I bought Iconia in China with
Build Number: Acer_A500_1.135.02_AAP_CUS4
Bad Thing: No Market, no Maps, no Latitude, no Gmail, chinese everywhere even after switching the Pad to English.
I followed the instructions in the link from Trinity - everything went smooth.
Result: Mix of chinese, but I had market and all the goodies
Then i did a factory reset.
Result: A clean fresh american rom. Includes the languages english, german, spanish, italian, french, chinese simpl., chinese traditional.
Thanks to everyone contributed to this solution!

Motoactv US version in Europe

Hi all!
I had the chance to buy via Amazon US the Motoactv at a more reasonable price (180$ vs202€ in Italy!!!).
Well now i think I have kinda di problem of geographic limitations for update the device and, Furthermore, it's only English and no optionfor italian (not a big issue actually but I'd prefer it). So i was thinking at rooting the watch in order to install European version or even one of the cooked rom for this little jewel. Question is: is it possible to root without having updated the device to the very last firmware release? Im now with 1.7.8 and I know there's out the 1.7.12.
Any answer really appreciated.
Thx
Andrea

It's best to update, as it updates the bootloader as well, but I don't think it's required.
