I’ve been using the same GAPPS for every release, Lithid’s 5/04 GAPPS, which can be found here:

Note: don’t download the larger file, it’s not for our phones
6/13 GAPPS, heard they didn't have gtalk with video, but they're newer if you're into that

This GAPPS includes Gtalk with video, while the 6/13 GAPPS in Rom Manager does not.

1. From your CM7 rom, boot into Clockwork Recovery.
2. Back up your CM7, and wipe data/cache as well as Dalvik.
3. Flash a Sense based rom.
4. Boot into Sense based rom.
5. Turn GPS on in Sense based rom.
6. From the market, download GPS Status & Toolbox (free, unless you’re in a giving mood)
7. Open GPS Status & Toolbox, hit menu, then tools.
8. Hit “Manage A-GPS state”
9. Hit “Reset”
10. Go back to tools, and “Manage A-GPS state”, and select download.
11. Go outside, or near a window and point your phone to the sky. There will be two numbers near the bottom right of the compass denoting how many Satellites you’ve found and how many fixes you have. (I usually get 8-11 fixes on 8-11 satellites but it should work with less fixes and satellites)
12. Straight from this screen (if you have the power menus), reboot into recovery leaving GPS on.
13. In recovery, wipe data/cache as well as Dalvik.
14. Restore your CM7 backup, and you should now have GPS

Where can I get kernels for CM7?
You have a few choices:
The stock kernel which has been reported to work very nicely.
Imoseyon’s kernels

Why do I have worse signal on CM7 than I do on Sense-based roms?
In short, you don't. AOSP roms usually reflect your DATA signal, not your signal in DBM which is your voice signal. If this really upsets you, some themes make it look like you have more bars
In Call Volume Fix (ALL RC's)
This was originally released for RC .4, and some say it is not needed on RC .6, but here it is if you’re still on .4, or maybe still aren’t experiencing adequate volume on RC .6.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1121517**This has since been updated to work on ALL releases currently available.
Phone not ringing when called:
While there are no *definitive* fixes for this, there are two things that people have reported as working..
1. If you have Google Voice tied to your mobile phone, delete your mobile phone number from the GV website, and then re-add it.
2. Go to Settings > Profiles > Manage App Groups > and delete the Phone(or dialer, not sure which it is) from the application groups window.
4G does not stick:
I recommend MrB’s method of getting 4G to stick if you’re having problems. I can’t find the thread right now, but since I’ve done it so many times here is the process:
1. Go to Wireless and set yourself to CDMA/EVDO auto.
2. Wait for a solid 3G connection.
3. Switch your radios to CDMA/EVDO + LTE auto. (Even if you don’t get signal, it’s ok)
4. Open up Rom Manager, and select Fix Permissions.
5. Let the phone do its thing, you’re free to go make a sandwich (this takes considerably less time on a fresh install due to the lack of apps)
6. Once Fix Permissions is finished, GO BACK TO THE WIRELESS SETTINGS, and turn your radio back to CDMA/EVDO auto.
7. Reboot.
8. Wait for solid 3G to pick up on the fresh boot, then change your radios back to CDMA/EVDO + LTE auto.
Note: This won’t work for everyone, I have seen plenty examples of it not working, but I have also seen plenty examples of it working as well. I do this everytime I flash a RC, and the only time I lose 4G is after a reboot.
Trouble getting 4G/keeping 4G? (cont.)
Simple fix if you're having trouble getting and keeping 4G, don't forget to try formatting your /system in CWM. (You'll have to reinstall the rom, so only do this as a last resort). It's under Mounts and Storage.
Sound only coming out of ONE headphone/Sound is mono:
I haven’t seen this pop up too recently, so I’m assuming it is fixed but most people have noted that if they start having this problem a reboot usually fixes it. IF NOT, open your voice search app (doesn't hurt to place a search), and then your sound should work

Possible fix for ringtones playing once.. for the brave, thanks Szale9001!
I wanted to share, however, that I may have found out a potential fix for the "only one Ring during phone calls" issue. First I followed the first post steps and deleted the Dialer app from the Profile settings, but that didn't work for me (I do not use google voice so step 1 was irrelevant for me). Through some research I came across this post:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod...detail?id=3653
It basically states that only some of the ringers in CM7 have an "ANDROID_LOOP=true" line in the metadata of the ogg file. It gives instructions on what to do to add this line to all oggs at once. To summarize, I used my ubuntu laptop with adb and the vorbis-tools package installed, to adb pull my chosen ringtone. I then typed the following in the terminal:
$ vorbiscomment -a -t "ANDROID_LOOP=true" myringtone.ogg
Afterward I mounted the /system partition as R/W and pushed my ringtone back to the phone. It seemed (I rebooted to make sure and further tested other ringtones) that once I completed these steps my ringtone would repeat as long as the phone was ringing and until I answered or ignored. Just wanted someone to know, might help some people. Also maybe if slayher or one of the maintainers gets wind they may be able to do this to all ringtones for the next release (assuming my solution works lol).

RC .4 Bootlooping:
This was primarily due to the stock kernel in RC .4 defaulting to an overclock of 1.8 GHz, which most Thunderbolts can not handle. If you are still on RC .4 for some reason, and bootlooping, it is wise to flash another kernel and give the ROM another go. Imo’s newest kernels should default to 1 GHz at bootup, so you should be fine.

So I can't post in the Dev Forums so I thought I might create a thread here about the bugs found in floyo v0.15, and maybe somebody could help me on these problems.
1. The auto brightness works but it sometimes results in my screen completly fading black in 2~3 seconds. And then the phone will remain unresponsive for 20 or so seconds.
2.The SD-Card safe to remove reboot. Actually this is not a problem but What I want to say is in the time I've been using this rom I have only had two of these, which is really impressive compared to what I saw in the Dev Thread. All 2 occurred when I had about 10~15% power left. I don't think that is a coincidence so maybe someone could look into that and probably solve it.
3.Not a problem, I just want to say that, battery usage is superb.
4.I had a bit of a problem with the Google PINYIN IME, it would be disabled every time I restarted.I moved it back to phone storage and after one more problem it solved itself.
5.Compass crashes and results in reboot.
6.With PowerAmp and Default music player, the volume keys on the side do not work while screen is off.
7.The camera button is disabled.
That's all for right now.
8. can´t play .avi files with Rock player.
rock player really sucks on this rom
@UAL4588
dude somewhere in dev forums i read that there is a market app for camera. did u tried to use that one?? sorry forgot the name..
if you face any other issues please do mention it
*on the verge of installing floyo 0.15*

Woot, my first post. XD
I've been following racht's work, updating once I deem the ROM stable enough.
About the re-start thing. Yes, it's annoying. But I think it only happens when your system tries to close Root explorer. I'm guessing you're using some type of app killer. At times like these, I try to keep my phone as clean as possible, only installing apps that I need since lots of programs usually ends up messing with non-stable ROMs.
Auto brightness works fine on me. Not perfect but my phone doesn't freeze.
BuG: When battery level is at 10%, auto-brightness doesn't work if you put your phone to sleep. When you unlock it, brightness will be near the maximum level. To fix this, I just re-cycle through the brightness setting in the PowerWidget to quickly go to dim.
The camera here is definitely better than the stock one that Sony gave us. But I'd really want to be able to record videos.
I wonder why the camera button doesn't work to get pictures...
Oh and... Facebook crashes for me. I reinstalled but still, it crashed.
...
Hopefully, racht would be done soon. I'm checking on his thread everyday now. Support him, everyone. XD
fb work fine for me in 0.15 , but I want to remove some of the apps which comes pre-installed with floyo 0.15, like i dont want to keep the skype, but when i removed it with root uninstaller it showed up like a .com.skype...... file in the apps menu, though upon taping on it doesn't works.
Try removing it using Titanium Back-up. Worked for me.
Oh, and some apps leave those things. Check the filesize if it's 0 byte.
If it is, it should be safe to delete.
does ever try to wipe the data first? the Fb app wouldn't be crashed if the data wipe first(factory format)..fb app runs ok for me

found some issues in racht's floyo 0.15, as im unable to detect mobile network through the wireless & network > mobile networks menu. My phone does connects to my operator network & it runs fine, but i can't manually search for a network operators available, it only displays an error as "error while searching for networks"
also when my phone gets starts up if i kept it idle then it gets restarted & thus it gets into a loop
anyone has faced these issues yet??

I didn't have any problems with Wi-Fi detection when I was using Floyo. Try full-wipe and re-install ROM. Though I think you should just update to racht's Gingerbread.
About the reboot loop, that's caused by xrecovery. There's a fix somewhere here in the forums but I suggest just updating to Gingerbread since racht took care of that already.

I really wonder why there is none of such thread here!
Gingerbread unfortunately brought only bad things to my Nexus. I already forgot why I was so crazy about installing it.
What feature did it introduce again?
Okay the response is much better and everything seems faster...but with lots of bugs?
That screen off animation? Seriously?
Things that I hate now:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day with lot of usage, b
efore I could listen to mp3's one day, ie. more than 4 hours without any problems...now
- Camera: either Cam or Video, the application crashes after I take a photo or video and then I can not connect to it anymore
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- unlock screen: I use a pattern, often there is no overlay of what pattern I drag, still the screen can be unlocked
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- 3G and Wifi: if you are connected to wifi more than 15 minutes and then disconnect from it you do not get any 3G, you have to go to airplane mode and back, this bug appeared ages ago and was fixed, now back again...tells you a lot about their merging control, ie. sucks
- notification led: you know...
- apps: there are a lot of apps running even though I never used them since restart (see it in a task killer app)
- gps: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- phone reboot: it even rebooted without any notice two times since I installed it
(- Contacts: I still can't enter a simple thing like a birthday on an expensive phone like this)
MOD EDIT: Borderline trolling removed. If you switch OSes, that's your own choice. No one here is stopping you.
Got any troubles? Tell here.

4. Blank keyboard- fixed by switching to another keyboard and back again, or a reset
5. Blank Launcher- fixed with reset
6. In the stock SMS app a long press>delete conversation doesn't always delete the selected conversation; sometimes you have to do it twice.
As far as battery goes, my display is still the thing that takes up the most battery (which is normal) but I had been experiencing severe declines in battery life. Does the switch to 32-bit color require more processing power and therefore battery?
I *#*#4636#*#*>phone information and saw it was set to WCDMA preferred. I remember playing with the option when froyo came out but didn't remember what it was set to (Maybe Gingerbread reset the option...?). I changed it to GSM PRL (Auto), and have experienced increases in battery life, as my phone isn't hunting for 3G all the time- it uses a service provided list of tower locations.
The LED REALLY bugs me.
Hate about Gingerbread
No trackball wake
Juice Defender Doesn't work (but Green Power does - works well but with less flexibility than JD)
Short battery life
Useless keyboard selection gimmicks
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab

Well, glad to know mine isn't the only one that does this!!
On Froyo I would wake up in the morning to freshly updated apps that had updated automatically over night.
I have not had this happen a single time on Gingerbread, and nearly every time I go in to the market there are updates waiting.
What is the point of the automatic update feature when it doesn't work???

auto update never worked for me, even in froyo.
-Battery with CM7 roms
-Trackball wake blocked in non-CM7 roms
-More difficult to mod themes like statusbar (before we just had to change a png and now we have to edit a bunch of files)
So in summary GB roms are still not stable and complete, they have either TB wake missing or poor battery life too
My annoying issues?
- 2 second mic mute after I answer a call
- stock launcher choking after a while
Less annoying ones:
- Market does not automatically update apps
- gps activations without an apparent reason
My annoyances
In no particular order:
The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
Launcher unresponsive/vanishing
Lockscreen pattern not showing (as in the OP)
Phone randomly stays awake at night
GPS turns itself off
Not able to view an apps wakelock any more
USB mount screen shows 'turn off' even when it isn't mounted (UK issue)
USB debugging icon doesn't appear, or doesn't turn off depending on how you enabled it
Exchange push is just crap now, I swear it's getting worse by the day

- phone reboot: it even rebooted without any notice two times since I installed it
(- Contacts: I still can't enter a simple thing like a birthday on an expensive phone like this)
I think there is more if I think about it.
Seriously thinking about switching back.

While I'm not a big Gingerbread lover at all, here are answers to some of the points:
Battery time is fine, at least in freshly installed ROMs it far exceeds what Froyo mastered.
Camera is your own problem - you didn't update radio, or your update went bad.
Gallery never crashed - again, your own problem (you get the feeling now, right?).
3G and WiFi - again, your own problem. No bug.
Apps - and why do you care? Isn't the "DO NOT USE TASK KILLER" thread clear enough? 150-200MB free RAM aren't self-explanatory?
Due to your comments, you might really consider switching to Apple. It would be beneficial both for you and for this forum.
Or you could back up user data, wipe, install new radio and bootloader, load fresh Gingerbread ROM (NOT CM7 or CM7-based), and have most of your points addressed.
Now, having said that, if you want a much better overall feel - install Froyo-based Desire port, or if you don't have any use for Hotspot - DesireHD port. I hate using barebone Android after some experience with it.
have you guys heard about Cyanogenmod ROM? I am using CM7 RC4 and I have no problems that anyone mentioned in this thread....
Maybe you haven't heard that your experience not necessarily represents anything.
For me (and another 2 guys that asked me to reinstall other ROM on their Nexus Ones), CM7 was a huge, awful pile of bugs. Starting with the ill-famous "wonk".
Plus, again, after having some SenseUI I don't really want to go back to plain Android, and wouldn't suggest it to anyone looking for a good overall experience.
I have an occasional problem with the application tray where it stutters, flashes and doesn't scroll properly. It seems to happen only after exiting certain apps, and needs the launcher to be force closed to fix.

Just lost all credibility in my book...
I would suggest the OP decides what features he/she wants in a ROM and then try a few different ones out. There are plenty to cater to all tastes and i'm sure they'll be able to find one that works well for them.
1. exchange sync stops syncing without any reason. can't start a manual sync. only reboot of the phone helps for a short period of time. needs a fix very urgently.
2. TINY TINY notification icons...the worst idea google had for the GB update. i cannot see the difference between the gmail and exchange mail icon on normal usage in example.
There are some more points which i also mentioned in my blog about gingerbread for nexus one:

Thread Cleaned
Let's play nicely in here and keep this on-topic. This is not the place to discuss other operating systems. This is about issues pertaining to the OTA Gingerbread updates.
Thanks,
Your loving moderator.
One bug and one annoying change:
- The instability of the launchers. I hope they address this.
- The inaccessible GPS toggle. Tasker can't access it and neither can the toggle widgets. Why did they change this?
my mms sometimes does not send if i configure 2 APNs (one for mobile data and one for mms), while i disable the one for mobile data...
it's working fine on Froyo and CM6 before

QFT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to the target brightness which is quite abrupt visually.
And of course... trackball wake is gone.
I concur with these points:
- Battery Time: this is bad, can't even run half a day
- Gallery: often crashes, especially if you have an online photo account connected
- Market: even if automatic updates activated, it only updates if you open the market and go to the "my apps" tab
- GPS: on a random bases it tries to lock even though no app that uses gps is running
- Creating shortcuts on desktop: sometimes you can't drag/drop icons to the desktop or to a different spot on the desktop.
- The cursor select triangle not lining up with the cursor
- Auto brightness adjustment no longer fades, now it just jump straight to full bright or full dim.
As for the people suggesting we update the radio and try different roms, while that is primarily what this board is about, it doesn't "solve" anything. This is a stock Nexus One with official everything. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work.
Hey everyone second post here, I have been reading the forums non-stop for a while now but still have a couple questions I can not find an answer to so any help would be appreciated.
And just for reference its a MY4G 2.3.3 CM 7.0.3 Kernal 2.6.32.28 Full clean wipe, dalvik, cache etc before flashing.
1: Am/ FM radio requires Bluetooth to be active although i'm listening to it though the wired ear piece which is required anyway as its the antenna. Why is that needed as I find it an extra battery drain? It says it's for " Enabling Bluetooth for FM radio support" and I don't remember the stock sense radio requiring it? Also if you shut it off the radio shuts off?
2: Am/FM while the radio is active if I receive a phone call, then hang up and go back to radio it does not work. Even with a force close the radio will come on but there will be no sound via speak or ear piece unless I do a reset. Is it possible to find and use the stock radio? If I search for radio on these forums to find the apk all I find is the other types of radios that I don't want.
3: GPS, I finally was able to make the GPS work but WIFI must be active. If WIFI is inactive It still locks a location but It is always off by about .5 miles. I tried all the fixes " delete the last 2 lines in gps. folder, gps status fix,etc but to me as a ship captain WIFI should not be need to make a GPS work correctly and it seems like a half ass fix. Solution?
4: GPS, since these phone's are able to receive gps are they able to output the GPS signal via usb cord to my navigation software on my laptop. I Know my handheld GPS is capable but I have not found a way to use the MT4G yet?
5: Call recorder, The stock call recorder will still record when I hit the sleep button. The one that came with CM7 does not and I have not found one on the market that will either. I cannot remember what the stock recorder was to do a search for it to install. Maybe someone can help?
6: Video Camera, Like the call recorder I need to keep the video recorder running if I hit the sleep button. The reason for this is it will keep recording and prevent anyone from accessing my phone through the password to delete the video saving evidence. I know I can use QIK so my question also applies to Qik, is there anyway to keep that app running too when the sleep button is pressed?
7: Police download devices, As a frequent traveler I often see customs, TSA and police plugging in scanners to download all your contacts, texts, pics, videos and data. If my phone is password protected can they still access my personal information. And if so is there software or a way to not allow them or "truly" encrypt the data? I assume their software works kind of like adb so maybe this is impossible?
8:Running services, Even If I try and force close Maps and WIFI calling they stay active. Why is this and is there a way to keep them from starting? Why do they keep running in the background as I find this another battery killer.
9: Security, What are your thoughts about the app Theft Aware. From what I have read it's seems pretty unbeatable if its installed on the rom and they claim it can withstand a factory reset. Unless your pretty technical I would think the average or even slightly advanced person could have a tough time removing this. Thought? And is there a better way to protect or encrypt whats in the memory or on the SD card on my phone?
10: Sim card lock. Although T-Mobile gave me an unlock code for my ATT sim card when I put the T-Mob one back in that code did not work and ended up locking the sim with a "the letter lock I forget what it was called" and had to call T-Mob to unlock it for me. When I travel I will need to often switch sims depending on the country I am in, will that 1st unlock code work on multiple sims or will I need a separate code for each one? It looks like the G-free method-true unlock will bypass this but I keep reading people getting PU errors and bricking their phones when switching ROMS after using this.
Sorry it's long and thanks if you can help answer and educate me on any of these questions.
1, 2, 3, 5, 6. Use stock, Royal Glacier, Royal Panache, Iced Glacier. CM7 is great, but it was made for a large collection of devices and is in a lot of ways hacked together. Considering this it's an amazing ROM, but for the kind of fine-tooth comb you are running through it you're better off with a ROM specifically designed for the glacier and more importantly the features you already find valuable in the stock ROM.
4. It has GPS, but I'm pretty sure your software is designed to work with GPS units. In other words, the software would need to write in support for phones, specifically the glacier.
7. Stop selling national secrets. j/k.
8. They are only a battery drain if they are active. They can sit in memory and never once draw power from your battery. In fact you are draining your battery and causing possible instability issues by force closing them and causing them to reload.
9. You're asking for complete access to your phone (root, s off) while having complete protection against intrusion. Tough order.
10. Gfree along with ENG SPL seems to work fine, it's those people who ran 90% of the race, hacked the hell out of their phone, then decided flashing a bootloader was too risky, that have had problems.

darinmc, Thank you for your quick detailed response.
If I can pick your brain one more time, I see you mentioned Royal Glacier and Panache but not Ginger. Is there a reason why?
Also From what I have been reading a ROM is just the base and then you build up from there. Between the 4 ROM's what would be the major difference? Is it what is packaged with them? Or more or less speed vs battery life?
Since I am going to be installing one of these I assume and they suggest a factory reset - full wipe. Does a factory reset wipe the SD card?
I have seen posts recommending formating your SD card. My question is, I remember reading that you have to make sure the "install" file goes back on or else you mess yourself up. I searched my SD card and did not see this file. I assume when people buy or replace their SD card they are completely blank. If I formatted my SD card and did not care about any data, apps or anything and put it in blank could I mess something up?
Thank you for taking the time to educate me about this questions.

I'm a senior .NET developer with 13+ years programming experience, now studding Android for a couple of months now, also doing a two weeks Android course (this week and the next one). My goal is to start creating some ROMs for the device too, but my current knowledge is pretty basic and theoretical right now.
I'm also very experienced on testing ROMs (used to do it a lot on my old Xperia X10). tested many versions from Eclair 2.1 to GB 2.3, including MIUI and CyanogeMod too
I can apply the test CM7!
Been waiting for this to come for a while. Be nice to be a tester

What is the expected behavior?
When the google navigation app is started the GPS should lock on within a reasonable amount of time and should remain locked on. Should it lose a lock, it should re-lock within a reasonable amount of time. The "maps" app should operate within the same limits.
What is the actual behavior?
When the GPS app is started, the initial lock takes anywhere between 3-5 minutes to get a lock. Once a lock occurs it will remain locked for a short while. It does not lose the lock at the same time intervals, it is sporadic. I've seen it take anywhere from 10-15 minutes. Once a lock is lost and you hear the audible warning... the phone will reboot itself every time. The same issue occurs if you use the "maps" app. You are able to get gps data, but once you lose a lock the phone reboots itself.
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Make sure GPS radio is on.
- Initiate "navigation app" or "maps"
- Wait for a GPS lock
- Wait for GPS signal loss
Possible workarounds:
None, that I could find.
Bug: stewartsoda isn't an alpha tester
Environment: Life v0.1 Alpha 2
Firmware: R0001
Hardware: Human
Expected behavior: stewartsoda has access to alpha builds for testing
Observed behavior: stewartsoda doesn't have access to alpha builds for testing
Steps to reproduce: Ask stewartsoda to retrieve the latest build for testing. He will be unable to do so.
Conjecture: There are many possible reasons why Stewartsoda doesn't have access.
One- he hasn't been granted access.
Two- he hasn't known about formal alpha testing of CM7 until now.
Three- he hasn't been invited to the project and doesn't know where to retrieve builds from.
Possible solutions:
One- invite stewartsoda to be an alpha tester for cm7 on the Atrix.
Two- provide download links to stewartsoda through PM.

When a user places a call, the proximity sensor will detect the distance from the persons cheek, and when close enough, will shut off the screen and de-activate the touch sensor in order to avoid accidental key presses.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The proximity sensor on the phone seems to not be responding as it should. I have noticed that when I place a call on 7.0A, the screen stays on and does not shut off. My cheek will then press the speaker phone button, or any other button that is there. This was not a problem on stock FW so it is not a phone issue.
To reproduce:
Place a call and listen to it.
Notice that your cheek will press additional buttons.
To verify, try another call and place your finger at the top right corner of the phone next to the sound opening. On stock, the screen will shut off.
Fix:
Verify that the prox sensor is activated, then try increasing the sensitivity of the sensor in order to shorten the distance needed to the reciever to trigger the screen shut off.

To those who read the OP, and responded correctly, good luck at being some of the first to test this on the Atrix!
I would love to apply the test CM7
I am a programmer and linux administrator, and have led major projects (think: popular Half-Life 2 mod) with major bug-tracking efforts. So, with that said, I am *very* familiar with both the development process, and how to submit bugs.
But before I toss my name in the hat (with a proper application), I must know: How functional is this alpha? My atrix is my only phone at the moment, so I can't lose phone functionality if the ROM has issues with the radio.
Sample bug report:
Camera flash causes reboot
Tester: bilbert
Description: Turning on the camera's flash functionality via a non-camera application causes the phone to reboot.
Found in: CM7a 1.01-27
Present up to: CM7a 1.01-31
To reproduce:
* Install "Widgetsoid".
* Create a widget with a "flashlight" button.
* In Widgetsoid options, select flashlight option 2.
* Add widget to home screen.
* Press flashlight button. It will take a second, but it will turn the camera LED on.
* Press flashlight button again. LED will turn off.
* Press flashlight button again. Leave on until screen turns off. Phone will reboot.
Attached are logcat and dmesg, with relevant error messages.

New NC w/1.3 did BN stock update to 1.41, confirmed all working. Then I applied the manual nooter 5-12-20 using CWM sd with no errors or issues in installing/rooting/booting. A couple issues/observations after successful booting.
Posting here as new user hoping other new users in same boat without enough time on forum to be allowed to post to the dev thread (I've read every page of the thread and every post since 5-12-20 was released mult times so can say these questions/observations are either not observed or observed and not definitively answered that I could find).
A couple observations and questions:
1. At least 2 other posts noting issues with WiFi.....mid-usage wifi just drops goes dead and I have to manually connect - only started after applying 5-12-20 - is there a fix or something more I can contribute testing?
2. Damned market. Seen many posts relating to market - some claimed to "fix" by re-rooting after going back to stock (doesn't make sense since I observed no errors in the process). My market launched, then updated fine. I, however like others saw many common apps simply not there like Google's own Voice app, facebook app, etc. Maybe someone can tell me, should my rooted nook color NEVER even see those 2 apps in the market? If it should, something went wrong. **Yes, I went back to page 1 of that thread and applied the "market visibility fix" which really needs to be updated to say you MUST uninstall the market "update" to roll it back to the original rooted market then apply the steps - then yes, it worked in the sense that all apps EXCEPT for some pretty BIG ones like facebook, google voice, etc are listed. This one is the primary reason I'm rooting and I've read a LOT of different "fixes" of changing DPI, fingerprint, build.props, etc. yet in any of the original root instructions seen an indication that this is a STANDARD action every rooter needs to take. Why do some need this "workaround" of hacking dpi and props and some don't? Is it simply that those that don't are not using these very common apps like facebook? Someone could make my day by helping out with this as I really hate doing things half-assed and having something half-working.
3. Power consumption seems a bit higher than pre-MN-root which leads me to next question - the MN rooting process installs "google latitude", "navigation", and what appears to be phone processes. Without a gps or location services I can't seem to get these nav type apps to work (hang at aquiring location), is there a reason they are installed and is there a way to make them work? Can any of the phone/dialer type daemons be removed could any of them be increasing power consumption? Again, I'm game for testing if a dev can shed some light.
4. Basic question but one I saw people had app "updating" issues with but no clear answer as to best practices. If an app is available in both BN store and android market, are there pros/cons to installing one vs other? Netflix good example installed via BN store yet market says update when BN store does not.
5. Dual-booting - seen different threads but they are dated to older firmware and with the awesome job GMPOWER did putting together 5-12-20 MN, would love to help him or the devs test and put together a step by step rolling his 5-12-20 MN and current 1.41 in with whatever the best practices are for setting up a dual boot with CM7, etc.
Again, you guys rock and I love the NC, any help on these would be greatly appreciated!
I'm new here too,but I might have a simple solution to question #1.If you're "dropping WiFi" at home, check the channel your router is using and see if a neighbor (or two or three)are also using that channel."Sniffer" programs are around that will give you the info.Try to set yours up on a "clear" channel.Worked for me when the neighborhood "filled up" with routers all set to channel 6.Went to ch.3 and problem solved.
Good luck.
Thanks but as I stated only after the manual nooter is the wifi dropping - no need to get out wireshark when 4 other wifi devices including a non-rooted nook in the same room without dropping but thanks for the suggestion!
BTW, I should ask are you rooted and which version, etc?

I did not experience this issue. In fact, on B&N 1.4.1, my wifi was more dependable than on CyanogenMod. I suspect a lot of has to do with specifics on your wifi setup, including router make, security used and so forth. You could try tweaking parameters to see if it helps. Was it dropping as much before you ran MN? I wouldn't expect what was done with MN to make a difference. Are you using Dalingrin's kernel or anything similar?
2. Damned market. Seen many posts relating to market - some claimed to "fix" by re-rooting after going back to stock (doesn't make sense since I observed no errors in the process). My market launched, then updated fine.

Hmm. I never got around to trying Google Voice, and have no use for Facebook, so can't say for sure those were there. I've since nuked 1.4.1, so can't test now either. I can say that I had well over 100 apps that I commonly use on CM loaded, and didn't find any that I weren't visible in Market without any tweaks. It did take a long time for Market to update, but after that, it worked smoothly. You might try accessing the Market via the web interface and see if those apps will install from there. I did that a few times. Maybe that trips something?
3. Power consumption seems a bit higher than pre-MN-root which leads me to next question - the MN rooting process installs "google latitude", "navigation", and what appears to be phone processes. My power consumption was initially very good, but after a week or so, I started seeing the battery drain go to 3-5% per hour. Unfortunately, 1.4.1 hobbled a lot of troubleshooting tools, so I wasn't able to nail down the culprit. This is what ultimately drove me to abandon 1.4.1 for CM again.
I did try renaming phone.apk and others that have been recommended, but my NC seemed to get very unstable thereafter. Lots of spontaneous reboots and the like. I put them back and really didn't see a big difference one way or the other that I can attribute to these. From everything I've read, they're not likely to cause noticeable drain, but some other standard functions depend on them.
4. Basic question but one I saw people had app "updating" issues with but no clear answer as to best practices. Cost is probably the main factor. Netflix from B&N supposedly supports HD while the Market version does not. On a 7 inch screen, I couldn't care less. Netflix off of the Market looks pretty good, so I'm happy.
5. What you do to stock is pretty much independent of dual-booting.
Bobstro,
Thanks so much for the input! As for the wifi, it does seem very specific to after I ran the MN on 1.41, in fact it never once dropped and I went back to stock 1.41 for the last day and haven't seen it drop again (my wife's is stock 1.41 and doesn't drop either when my MN does so unless it's a hardware issue I'm guessing it's something in the MN process, driver, etc.)
One weird thing I did have happen and searching found a couple references but nothing definitive was using CWM 3.2.0.1 flashing the 1.3 stock after formatting system, data, cache multiple times was my touchscreen did not work. I even re-downloaded the 1.3 from xda must have flashed 6 times never worked. Then downloaded a 1.41 posted on one of the recovery xda threads and lo and behold my touchscreen worked. Also, unlike the 1.3-1.41 upgrade, when I flashed right to 1.41 a couple things came up that didn't after upgrading mine and my wife's to 1.41, namely netflix right on the home screen touch to install, and the nook friends app right on the home screen.
Have you come across anything that would indicate why my touchscreen went dead no matter how many times I rebuild the CWM card, formatted the nook partitions correctly and flashed without error? It really made me worry I had a bad unit but like I said worked out of box, worked after 1.41 upgrade, worked after latest MN, only once I returned to 1.3 stock did it die until flashing 1.41 directly.
Interesting about the market, I did have thousands of apps just not some of the most common big ones and I did try through browser it told me facebook was incompatible with my device which led me to all the "hack the dpi, props file, etc." threads I just didn't want to be part of a minority for for some unknown reason had to hack workarounds if 99% of folks running the MN could simply install facebook and google voice from market without workarounds.
Thanks again!
Edit: on the dual boot I thought there was a way to install CWM or something to internal to allow dual internal booting from stock (nootered) and CM7 - I'll keep looking.

I'm happy to help where I can. The smart folks here on XDA have helped me tremendously, so I trying to pay it forward as best I can!
[...] One weird thing I did have happen and searching found a couple references but nothing definitive was using CWM 3.2.0.1 flashing the 1.3 stock after formatting system, data, cache multiple times was my touchscreen did not work. I even re-downloaded the 1.3 from xda must have flashed 6 times never worked. Then downloaded a 1.41 posted on one of the recovery xda threads and lo and behold my touchscreen worked.

EDIT: Sorry about that strange post. I wanted to point you to the thread about the hardware having changed with more recent NC versions. 1.4.1 includes the newer drivers. Depending on where you get your older versions from, they may or may not work.
Well that 'kinda" makes me feel better that I at least don't have bad hardware, had I known the 1.3 that's posted was "different" then the 1.3 that came on my newer unit apparently must have had the newer screen drivers I would have backed it up - surprised someone hasn't posted it. I mean, mine came with 1.3 installed and the screen worked so it must have had the newer driver until I wiped it, right?
Also, do you have the links you referred to for the screen issues thread?
Thanks again!
The ongoing discussion I referred to is here. On page 2 or so, I've got a link the the original post.

Good luck.

Do look at WiFi, Once I Locked it on channel 1 it is rock solid reliable.
Bobstro,
I'm guessing your battery life must be a typo, at 10% an hour discharge would be 10 hours of runtime - they advertise 8. 3-5% sounds awfully low. Mine out of box is at about 10% an hour with wifi on and screen at 30% with constant online web browsing, maybe an app or two install, launching in and out of system apps, etc. - constant "activity" on my part not just flipping book pages or watching a video, etc.....I hope my unit is on par with others.
I also noted that my wife's refurb bought about thanksgiving that does not have the "new" screen hardware mine does actually looks side by side more blue/white with mine slightly yellower tinge which annoys me a bit. I know from years of jailbreaking and swapping iphones that there was definitely a difference in screen colors as they went from the 3g to the first 3gs I had, same thing blueish/whiter to a more yellow tinge - I can't win! LOL
Ah, sorry for the ambiguity. That was 3-5% while idle with screen off, which is far worse than normal. I expect to see 4-6% drop while idle with screen off overnight, max.
While in use, consumption is roughly 10% per hour, and mostly due to screen, which I usually run at 25%.
