My unit is currently running on Froyo 2.2. Full charge of battery only last for 7 hours approx. Plus my setting is less screen brightness , maximum battery saver profile (under battery mode) and using 2G(edge) to conserve power. Unfortunately it doesn't save much battery.

This was told to me by someone around here in the forum itself (it was in Droid 2 forum to be precise as back then we did not have a dedicated Milestone 2 forum). MotoBlur is a big battery hogger.
Once we can have a BLUR free ROM it will be much better. For people, it is lasting more than a day with overclocking.
Got mine 2 days ago and it really seems to be an issue. What if we remove all those Motoblur widget such as social network and weather, witch seems to keep transfering data all the time?
And what about installing Launch Pro? That will inative Motoblur, but it'll still be installed. Is that supposed to solve battery issue or not?

I have Launcher Pro installed and have a data and sms sim only in and the battery can last for 2 days easy.
Yesterday I used about 50% all day.
I am using my Milestone 1 as a phone only, no data turned on and it lasts ages without data (CM6)
Milestone 1 or [email protected]?
My Milestone 2 leasts between a half and two days, depending on my usage. Without 3G / UMTS on it leasts over one day (just 2G and / or wireless lan on). Even if I play Angry Birds or such in my spare time I have no problems to get through a whole day.
The biggest battery-killers are 3G and the auto-sync functionality, they can kill my MS2 within 10 - 12 hours.
Same here, overclocked to 1.25ghz @ 62VSEL, 3g /umts ON, I can make calls, play angry birds, read rss feeds, make a moderate amount of calls... I easily get more than a days use, though I routinely charge it every night for obvious reasons
note: I have stripped all of the motobloat social networking components, photo widgets, phone addons, help centre, weather 2.2, news 2.2, world clock 1.0, moto lounge, myspace, etc.
I really do believe the battery's more than sufficient for day to day use in these phones, as long as you don't load the phone up with junk such as facebook, myspace, etc.
Ok, remove all Widgets, set it to 2G... Doubt if it wouldn't be smarter to go back to my Nokia 6111 from 5 years ago.
Seriously, Motorola couldn't launch in the market a headset witch the battery can't last one day with factory default settings. Hardusers may find a way to solve the issue. Regular users have no choice but run to iPhone.
MS2 is the heaviest smartphone i have ever had. Thanks for its useful physical keyboard ( I didn't know how much text on touchscreen annoyed me ). And I still have to carry my charger on my pocket...
i've just installed juice defender. the phone runs since 2day and 20hours and has 60% battery left by now.
very nice app!
@tarnaman: did u do any particular tweaking with Juice Defender or just used JDs default settings??

you turn off your phone? turn off 3g?

i use juice defender in agressive mode. i dont need an "always-on" data-connection. when i want to check mails or updates im getting the phone out of the standby mode and then do a check. after that, i turn the display off and juice defender also turns the data-connections off.
at least, the phone was continuously 5 days on until the battery became empty.
Juicy defender worked fine for me. Also, installing go launcher saves some energy during the day. It lasts my entire day (7am 18pm) without social widgets enabled but gtalk.
Another thing that I installed was overclock widget (rooted phone) and put it to downclock my phone when screen is turned off.
My M2 drains battery so fast, 60% left after 3 hours.
Already using juice defender, undervolting by milestone overclock and underclocking when screenoff using setcpu. But seems they don't help to extend the battery life
And the battery usage stat seems strange, mobile standby is using most power, instead of the display (juice defender switch off data when screen off already). I didn't put any social networking widget on my ADW EX.
Would having a factory reset and skip the login of motoblur help saving the battery?

The battery usage shows the app by the amount of time they runned, so if standby is at first it means that your phone stayed more time in standby than with the screen on.

oh thanks
so it is different from Milestone. I get use to the Milestone that the battery usage shows the % of battery used
I don't know about Milestone 1, but the default behavior for android is to show the % of time that an app has runned, so the battery use screen is more like a indication that an app is probably killing your battery, not the real deal.
There might be a part on ur motherboard thats draining too much juice. I had the same problem on my phone though the battery depletion wasn't as significant as yours. Check with ur dealer and claim it from ur warranty. Its apparently a common problem with the milestone range

Any positive reviews with Juice Defender ? I had it on my phone and used it on the extreme settings but didn't notice any difference even though it say it has improved my battery life by 1.68 times.
How do you make it really work ? Any tweaks and suggestions are welcome.
PS: Are there are more battery boosting applications out there that enhance the battery life ?

Is there any battery life boosting app that works?
I don't believe all the hype.. It runs in the background, so the apps itself is a battery drainer..
Sorry, but for me, lowering brightness, turning off 3g and mobile network when unused and also turning off haptic feedback helps increasing my battery's charge..
Of course these apps work. They turn off all radios when the screen is off, so, of course, they save battery.
Have you used this baby with radios enabled and the screen off? It gushes battery. With Juicedefender it looses very little battery when you're not using it (I should point out that the app will occasionally switch on the radio to get updates).
I recommend that you let JD manage your data and wi fi connections. It will intelligently use the radio that best saves battery. After some training, its like magic (it trains itself).
I've used several battery savers and I like Juicedefender best. It permits you to actually use the phone without disabling every damn facility and still get a day of use out of it.
Tried it once but use Green Power Battery Saver now, much prefer the easier UI
If rooted, along with LeeDrOiD 1.5.0 my battery life is amazing

I turn off wifi when I'm not using it, but 3g is too much hassle and I suppose I do struggle to get much more than 24 hours out of a single charge but gushing battery?

I think the phone does this without the help of additional apps. I'm losing only 1% per hour on standby with 3g enabled and auto sync. I did nothing special to the phone and I have no "battery saving" app. Does it, practically anyway, get any better?

You get 100 hours out of this phone with 3G enabled and auto-syncing Facebook, Twitter, etc? You must have got one out of that batch of super-phones that HTC accidentally produced.

I'm trying green power at the mo.
What settings do you use for green power?
Mine settings:
Managing wifi and mobile network
checking traffic (0,1kB/s)
Starting at boot
Day Mode:
07:00 - 22:00
On 10min - Off 10min
On if power ON
On if screen unlocked
Night mode:
22:00-07:00
On 1min-Off 8h
On if power ON
On if screen unlocked
I don't see the need to use stuff like this. I unplugged mine this morning and I still have 85% left with some moderate use with Facebook on push, weather and e-mail on 1 hour and others on once a day or update when opened.
I should point out I am using the Cingular radio and Android Revolution HD 2.0.9 but even when I was on stock I didn't have a terrible drain unless I had HTC Sense syncing away to itself. That seems to be the key issue.

You may be missing the "on standby" part of my post that refers to the one made by another poster. The point is, I think the phone already disabled unneeded functions without the need for an app. My phone doesn't have unbelievable battery life, but it doesn't suck either.
Anyways, I think "battery saving" apps just end up using more power.
Cheers from my DHD.
I have dissconnected phone from computer on Sunday 7 pm. Started Juice defender. About three hours of reading comics, about 30 minutes phone calls, email few times a day and some internet/market (about 1/1.5 hours) and on Tuesday, 2 pm, I still have 34% battery. There was some music playing for about an hour and video clips for same time. Great result in my opinion. I think Juice defender works great. At least very good.
JD is alright, its not stellar but it does help (for me and my settings and usage). It will help a lot better if you purchase Ultimate Juice, that's when it starts to be interesting but that's the thing, you'd have to purchase it before you discover if its the best solution for you.
I don't think there's one app that will universally make our battery life better. The apps will help if you could make its functions play well with your settings and style of usage. Short of saying that if you find an app that will enhance your battery saving habits and capitalize on the opportunities that your phone can save power, then that'll be the best option for you...
JD is alright, UJ makes it a lot better...
It looks like it is better solution then buying extra bettery. Good job. I am gonna try it for some more time and if the effect will be the same I will get the UJ. Thanks.

No, I didn't miss that part. This phone does not drain at 1% per hour with 3G and syncing enabled - in standby or not in standby. It just doesn't. And there are newbies reading this forum who might believe your figures.

It does. I sleep for 8 hours, I lose 8%. I think its supports the argument that the phone only uses resources when needed. Since it doesnt sync the entire time and only when its scheduled to, I dont see this is as an impossible figure.
Lets try to remember the context comments are presented in this thread.

Hi all, I would like just let you know, I tried a lot of apps for improving battery life, incl. Juice defender, and I must say the best one I tried is Android Assistant 2.2 build 15, after few settings I can say is really the best : full auto sync on gmail + company mail + weather, screen on 10%, screen off after 30s, gsm only, mobile data always-on, playing tank hero and few more games couple times a day, phone calls 30 - 45 minutes per day, 10 - 15 text per day, GTalk always on - and using quite a lot, wifi is on from 7.00 pm till 12.00 am, vibration always on, and result Full 2 days without any problems and overnight no any limitations, if I am using limitations overnight and not playing so much, and no wifi, battery will make easy 3 full days...

What does it shut off? Seems like it has to be something important to work. I want my email in real-time; does it mess with that?
I installed this only a few hours ago. yet to see any significant change. By the looks of it, having it on the default setting will turn data off when your screen is off, but I still get e-mail notifications in my 1hr check intervals even when my phone is sleeping.

The main feature is that it disables data most of the time (2g, 3G or wifi) and only enables it at preset intervals, like 2 minutes every 30 minutes to get your e-mails and stuff.
So basically what you lose is push / real time notifications.
It can also manage the screen brightness and CPU clock more precisely, put the phone in plane mode while you're sleeping (for example you can tell Juice defender to go in plane mode from 23:30 to 6:30 every day, except if you're still using your phone after 23:30 or start using it before 6:30), or activate wifi only when you're in a specific location.
Does anybody have issues receiving MMS picture messages with JD or any other power saving app running?
I had 'Green Power' running yesterday. A few people sent me pics which came through as blank. Stopped the app and asked them to resend and it worked.
Thanks
NC
I tried this app too, but the battery draining when WiFi was enabled was higher than without JuiceDefender. Still trying to get through all the JD settings...
I dont think Juice Defender would work well for me as I use Whats App a lot...
I use it on my ego. One of the best apps i bought
from my phone duh
Is anyone else able to toggle the 2G/3G setting? I've paid for the Ultimate Pack (wish i hadn't now as the Plus pack is supposed to do this) but apparently JD doesn't like my ROM, the Log says: 'ROM is not compatible with AOSP helper (3G control is unavailable) - get CyanogenMod
Out of interest i was on a UK O2 branded phone so i flashed XEU KW7, then rooted, then put back the original KE7 kernel. I wonder if that's the problem?
I was messing with Juice defender, but I found the app called Battery Booster to be much, much more effective. I went from a 12 hour battery, to having between 24 and 28 hours the last 3 charges. Simply amazing, more than doubled my battery life. Using perhaps 1-2% per hour when sleeping.
1-2% per hour when sleeping is not that good, i get 3% in 8 hours when sleeping.
But juice defender does what should be built into the gingerbread and that is, it puts your wifi and 3g to sleep when your screen is off or when you are not using it.
I personaly dont use push notifications so loosing that doesnt bother me, what bothers me is when the phone is in sleep it drains because i have wifi on.
I dont want to be turning wifi on and off all the time, i want it to be automatic, when i go on the web or open an app that uses data it should turn on my wifi.
SO YES JUICE DEFENDER DOES ROCK.
Well, before battery booster it used 5 - 8% per hour sleeping, so I'm pretty darn happy with the results I'm getting now. It used to last me about 12 hours. Now it lasts usually over 24 hours, which is great. That is included with 3-4 hours of screen-on time. Android OS also dropped by 20% after getting battery booster.

no problem at all with push services.
the way juice def works is simple: it geolocalizes ur wifi router, and moving out the area of wifi, jd switches off wifi hardware until u come back home\office. it does the same with other hardware modules not in use.
wot doesnt work: ebuddy or other istant massaging apps while screen is off (I think it's unuseful to use jd with IM-draining batt-apps)

Very similar to my finding with ATK (link below). Something happened in Gingerbread with how the OS handles cached apps... to the point where some cached apps stay active and keep your device awake!

What is wrong with almost everyone's obsession regarding battery life??
Oh my gosh I'm so tired of hearing everyone saying: I have switched everything off now and still only get 2 days of use.. Why??
If you want a weeks worth of battery life get 1" non-touch black & white screen phone.
If you want a awesome phone get a Galaxy Note, switch everything on, sync your social networks and mail every 10 minutes. Browse the web on the awesome 5.3" screen, play games and enjoy the phone to the full. So what if you need to charge it every 12hours.

It depends on the user. It surely has the juice to cope with heavy use. I couldn't be more happy

Roger that, entering good guy Greg mode.
First of all, the fist charges are important. Once i bought it, i updated it to latest 2.3.6 OTA and started using it till it shut itself off. Then charged it to full while off. Repeated this circle 5-6 times, maybe more. I haven't rooted the device yet. Its 100% stock running KK5. (Europe)
As i am in places where there is wifi available, i switched data off. In wireless and network options, i use "GSM only" mode. I left auto synch, auto brightness and gps on.
Widgets. I use the stock weather, stock digital clock, battery solo widget, stock task killer, stock news and weather, stock calendar. All those spread across 6 homescreens with 39 other app shortcuts on a black/silver background.
About the light usage. 5-6 times a day, i switch wifi on for synching. I read my mail and check my Facebook messages. Once i am done doing whatever i wanted to do that requires internet (update any app that requires updating etc.), i switch wifi off.
Lastly, before going to sleep, i close all active apps using the stock task killing widget and clear the ram. Overnight, i lose 2% battery.
Now that's what I call a battery obsession!
I just use my device as I see fit, and top up charge when I can - I have a Micro USB cable on my keyring, which means I've always got a charging cable on me.
Regards,
Dave

YEAH! i should be able to have wifi always on without it using any battery. thats right. screw the laws of thermodynamics, it should run for weeks even! having to toggle a button is just way too much work for me!

I partly agree with you. But we lack the battery technology to do all that. Not having enough signal coverage alone is enough to drain your battery. In some ways, you adjust yourself so as to keep using the phone for longer periods of time.
I must disagree with the fact that all the above i mentioned are garbage though. I am happy that i figured out a combination that will save me huge amounts of battery. I can still do all the heavy use i need, when i need it. With smart-phones there are options in settings to let you do just that. No-one forces you to do all that, just as no-one forces me to leave everything on.
Having lost 30% battery in 2+ days, means that theoretically if i kept using it like that i would get 7 days of one charge. For example, i know when i will receive an email, from who and when he/she expects me to reply. I hardly get any emails that require immediate response. If someone expects me to reply instantly, they send an sms, or call. Both of the options work fine using gsm only mode.
I also don't find important being logged in facebook 24/7. I 'll log when i have a break, before sleeping and when i wake up. Need to check the weather before leaving for work? Tap on wifi, wait 2 secs for it to connect, click refresh on the widget, done. It doesn't take more than 10 seconds.
I don't rush to turn off wifi or anything. I just use the battery juice and the phone's cpu on demand. The note is indeed a smart-phone, but with all it's features it is reaching laptop territory. I find that treating it as a laptop works better for my needs. Then again, thats just me. If your lifestyle demands all of the note's features on 24/7, then by all means leave them on. There are external 18000 mAh battery packs you can grab.
I'm running Cassies's Lite ROM and I can get between 5 hours and one week on a single charge. Just do everybody a favor and understand that this thing can go into sleep state for days.
If I leave it alone, nothing playing or syncing on the background I lose about 1-2% in 8 hours, so this could go on for days, even a week if you don't touch it.
Of course if the screen is on for only 15 minutes on 2 days, you're not going to have much power used.
During calls screen is off, yesterday I did a 1 hour call and lost less than 10% battery. So you can make several calls on 2 days and lose litlle charge.
If you play a 3D game with screen on at full brightnees, you'll deplete the battery in 5 hours.
It's no difficult to understand. battery life depends on what you do with the thing. Whenever the screen is on, it will consume power. How much depends on the brightness level and the color of the pixels displayed.
Syncing facebook / twitter / e-mail through 3G takes a lot of power too, specially when you're on a low signal area.
Anybody noticed the difference charging the phone while off versus charging it while on.
It looks to me charging while off makes the phone battery last much longer
it also takes much longer time to charge

Yes thats a fact, it also happens with my girlfriend's galaxy s2.. With my note the other day, found out that even plugged by usb to the pc with intensive using, wasn't enough to charge the battery % and actually it was decreasing..

My old iPhone 4 did that . I was downloading an app while having it plugged in into the wall outlet, and the battery just started going down (600+ meg download).
The note is a sloooowww charging device, that's for sure.
i always get over 2 days life out of mine. i never use wifi and i have gps on all the time. But what i do is i have the screen to auto and i use the stock task manager widget. With applications i always use the back button instead of home which 90% of the time closes the app. As a browser i use opera mobile as this has an exit button too. keeping running apps to a minimum seems to help my battery las well.
I'm getting amazing battery life.
And still going strong 11hrs with somewhat light usage and it's nowhere near 50% battery yet hehehe

i can get around 5 hours display time, wich is faaaaar better than sgs2. During the night the power consumption is 1% per 5 hours with wireless off or 1%/hour with wireless on. I'm on Rocket rom v12 which rocks!

I'm getting 3.5 days on a charge with moderate use.
I have 4 email accounts that are polled every 60 minutes.
I make a few calls a day and use the browser a little.
What seems to help is doing a force stop on apps that I'm not using like AP Mobile and Yahoo Finance.
Also, I am runnning KL7.
With light usage, few sync's a few calls ((4-5 min) some texts and notes and few minutes of gaming.. I get a around with 16+ hours of usage easily. I'm happy with the battery and the Note can definitely get on with a more aggressive battery usage...
If i can Root my 9005 - i intend to use Greenify,, as my battery is very poor (stock i'm lucky if i get 8-9 hours light/moderate use)
Is it a rated app,, can i expect big battery gains?
Thanks.
Depends which apps you have installed and how you use them. For example facebook drains much battery so you coukd greenify the app but if you do so you wont recive notifications anymore from it aslong you arent actively using the app.
In other words it prevents apps from wacking up.
As someone who already always manually force-closed all running apps, all I noticed was an increase in free time, as greenify is faster at it.
I didnt notice any increase in battery life.
If you don't manually force-close your apps, it'll probably have a bigger impact.

You will have some slight increases of battery of you force close the apps wich cause many wake locks like what's app

It seems to help mine. I run it with the Xposed Module that adds features that still preserve the notifications from Facebook, etc. I also have it set to boost mode for it to work faster.
I also haven't noticed much of an improvement. Many people swear it's a miracle app, for me it only turns off notifications.
True battery saver: green power payed version (on Google play). Set the phone to sync once at 4h and turn off wifi and mobile data on screen off. Awesome app, I tell you.

I do all that myself manually.... Sync always off and I turn Wifi or mobile data on when I need it, and turn it off when I'm done.
Cheaper than buying an app, too.
The real saver for me has been LUX. With our climate and the time I spend indoors, a brightness between -20% and 4% is more than sufficient. Now THAT saves battery! With brightness at 4, I loose 1% per 15 minutes whilst browsing! With it at 50, 1% per 5 minutes. At 100%, 1% per 90 seconds.
And when i use it in the dark, - 70%. I barely lose any charge at all whilst being an insomniac. It's been 20 minutes, still on 55% charge, which it also was 20 minutes ago. WiFi on, eWeatherHD update on, Tapatalk, Facebook and Firefox in use.
(if websites used less of that eyesore white, it'd save even more.)

I would suggest to remove some bloatware comes with the ROM / firmware itself.
It safes much battery though.
As well as turn on location, and on it when you want to use it.
And I freeze some apps which is running in background (which greenify can't detect it), which I don't use it as well.
and change to a good kernel.
it will really have a good deep sleep, never up if I never wake it up.
the apps running in background is only messenger apps like whatsapp, viber, and that kind of stuff. I never freeze this one and never put it on greenify as well.
So far so good.

I might look into that app. I go with the "free" lol DIY manual turn data/wifi off thing too, but sometimes I forget and I see wifi on when I had turned it off or so I thought. some apps are worth the couple dollars or so and I might very well get this one. Thanks for the tip on it. I like too that it automatically turns on wifi or data such as when you go to read an email or something.
You can also give these a try:
- Deep Sleep Battery Saver
- Juice Defender
- Tasker (You can configure it to auomate nearly anything, from 'turn on wifi at this and this gps location' to 'shut up completely between 2200 and 0800'. Does a lot of non-battery related things too, like launch a specific app when plugging in headset, or automatically move photo's from internal to SD.)

Juice defender is a dead project and 2 years old. Greenpower is basically the same app but still supported.

Hey thanks! I did go ahead with Green Power yesterday and I have to say I notice enough of a difference for sure. My usage has been with a phone call, check messages, several texts, check email a few times and some light surfing. i'm at 89% at 8 hours pulled off 100% charge and would have been lower for sure into 70s at best. definitely notice.
