Hey guys, sold my iPhone 4 2 weeks ago for $550, it was unlocked, so its value increased since I bought it in December.
Anyway, I was getting tired of boring old iOS, and the screen was too small as I have huge hands, so I switched to a galaxy S 4g. Didn't really like the phone that much, and the dev community is still growing with it. Plus my dad really liked the phone, so I gave it to him for his birthday
I've been bouncing around from device to device, blackberries, other htc android phones, but none of them really satisfy my need for a nice phone. I wanted the HD7, but then I ran into some videos of the HD2 running windows phone 7, and I looked here and there are 4 or 5 different OSes this phone can run, so I've decided this is the phone I want.
I've been searching craigslist for some devices, and I like when people include the box and original accessories because that shows to me they care about their stuff, which means the phone probably was babied.
So I ran into a few, and this one guy has one that is stuck on the boot screen. Is this fixable? Although I probably shouldn't consider it as I can't test the touch screen, buttons, and the earpiece and microphone.
But my real question is, is there anything I should look out for when trying to purchase an HD2? TIA
I would NOT buy any phone that is "stuck at bootscreen" or anything like that, because that could be a hardware failure.
You want a phone with no nicks or dings, but when you turn it on you want to do something very processor heavy and make sure it does not freeze (would be an overheating hardware issue some HD2s have).
play a movie or stream netflix (if it's running android or WP7) or do other processor heavy things for a minute. If it does not freeze or reboot then you should be fine.
wanto to buy usa version
Hi,
can I buy the usa version with 1gb rom and hope to get it working on italy?
does anyone tried it ?
thanks !
as orangekid wrote you should be very carefully about freezes ( overheating issues ), also try to find a US tmobile version ( i has more rom space 1 gb - eu version 512mb).
BUT remember the Tmobile US version ONLY works on tmobile 3G bands. I don't know of a single international network where you will get 3G bands working.
1GB ROM is better, but 3G is also better...
Thanks for the info guys. I'm actually from the USA and on T-mobile USA, but I don't use data. I may purchase the $10 200mb plan just to test the phone when I buy it.
So overheating seems to be an issue huh.
Should I put a movie on a microSD and play it back on the HD2 I'll be buying? Just to test it of course. I don't know how to do processor intensive things on WM 6.5.
And the US version has the 1GB ROM? Does that mean it is compatible with all OSes hacked for the HD2? Is there a specific way to tell if its the US version? Would the fact that it is branded as T-mobile at the top be enough evidence?
As I said, I'd like to at least test run WP7 on it, if not, I'd probably stick with a gingerbread ROM.
It will come with Transformers 1and 2 installed on the SD.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
That is if they haven't deleted them =|
I'll just put a movie on my current microsd card. What kind of movie file does it need to be?
I've bought about 6 hd2's, I would recommend, you take out the battery of any device you are looking to buy, if it won't boot after reinserting, you're being sold a lemon...the creeps have figured out how to make it work just long enough for a sucker to buy...this is true of the touchscreen of death models..buyer beware..

No you are mistaken
TMOUS HD2, works in INDIA with all 3G networks perfectly
i use one and have 3G running on almost 5 Different providers( AIRTEL, DOCOMO, AIRCEl, VODAFONE , BSNL ), funny thing is in INDIA all network providers are allocated the same 3G spectrum, so you can have one device and use any network"s SIM with 3G
have fun
Just wanted to let you guys know, I'm heading out to purchase a HD2 right now. No box and accessories, just a charger, but hey, I'm getting it at a great price. It is running android 2.2 however. Means this guy has been messing with it.
I'll pull the battery and reboot the phone, and then I'll insert my microsd with a movie on it. See if it freezes.
When it freezes, is it like lag, or does it just freeze and not change the picture on the screen?
Also, I will have internet. Is there anything intensive I can do using internet? Leaving in 30 minutes so yea...lol

Mine worked perfectly in Germany (O2) and Poland (Play) so I guess Italy should be OK.
HD2 is a great phone...
I bought my first hd2 like 1 month ago... previously i have a Touch PRO with wm6.5 and android... but wanted to get a larger screen and try wp7, but i was afraid of not liking the wp7... so i get the hd2 and i'm very happy with it... actually have WP7 + ANDROID (RAM Build)... both are stable and fast... so happy....
And 3G is not a problem with a TMobile HD2... im in Brazil and working fine...
Thought I'd update everyone with what I did.
Ended up finding someone interested in this Blackberry Tour 9630, no wifi, just a charger and phone, for his HD2 + case + charger + 2gb microsd.
Added $60 on my end, and got the Tour for only $60 a few weeks ago, so in total I spent $120 on the phone.
Thus far, the greatest phone I have ever used. I just love it. Currently running a stock version of WP7, don't even want to boot into android because WP7 is sooo nice
im glad for you my bro....
i have a question... from your name are you an Albanian?

My HD2 was in great condition. The only issues i had were the battery cover's clear coat had started to peel and the front buttons also had clear coat peeling. No hardware or software issues. It does get hot at times, but I've read this is common with this phone?

They should be worth around the same I believe. You should check your local craigslist to see the going rate for each phone, or if you're willing to go through a little more hassle, you usually can get more money for your phone before paypal and eBay fees.

overheating is normal when you run intensive stuff. if it doesn't reboot all the time it's ok.
the european version is also able to run all os. you just have to make an ext partition on the sd card for android and use sd ext. on windows phone it's no problem at all because the sd card gets formated and is added to the internal storage of windows phone. i think the most obvious thing to tell it's a tmous hd2 are the coloured call and end-call buttons. on the european version they are all just black and white backlight.

Hi quick question,
I just managed to sell my htc hd2 for £390 so am about to order my nexus one! (im in the UK) other UK buyers can you tell me how much its all coming to roughly, i understand its about £340 on the credit card from google then probably about another £60 from DHL once they invoice you?
Also I heard that if we're importing a nexus to uk rather than waiting another month or so to get uk version sim free (i guess from google.co.uk?) that the updates/rom etc will be the US versions and we may not get certain benefits/updates/default functionality etc that a UK/european bought nexus will get - what these are I don't know thou!anyone know?
What i was mainly concerned with was that I did hear this may effect gps/maps and sat nav for uk users and that we may not be able to use turn by turn in uk? This may not be true, its just something i remmber reading on another forum?
any thoughts would be appreciated
cheers
Well I believe the UK Nexus will have multi-touch.
I have my Nexus already running Google Nav as it works as per the old method for Hero/Dream.
It depends if you're planning on rooting it or not, if you are then you'll be putting a custom ROM on anyway, which will probably have multi-touch..etc (Cyan is already working on it).
Also the UK will more than likely have a T-mobile brading...etc.
Your Choice.
I have had my DHL bill as yet but it was a tad shy of £355 I think (depends on the exchange rate at the time).
yeah i think by all sounds rooting seems to be the way to go once peeps have had time to iron it out. havent had android phone before but like all i hear, i had the htc hd2 for about 4 hours before i was convinced winmo was a pile of ****! i think i may take the plunge and go for it -my GF keeps saying why dont i just get an Iphone! i think i need this phone to show her why!
If the euro Nexus does have multitouch there's nothing to stop Google updating those US phones sold to UK users - the hardware will be identical.
How do I test multi touch as I thought Eclair supports it out the box? I tried multi touch paint from market and it seems to work fine.
Use Dolphin Browser, this supports multitouch.
We KNOW the phones support it, its just Google couldn't release to US handsets for some reason to do with Apple and copyright??? not entirely sure.
The UK Nexus One ordered from google.com/phone (currently the only place to order the device) does not have multi touch support in the preinstalled apps. The device itself has support, the built in apps do not (ie the built in Gallery app does not zoom when you pinch) That's why installing multitouch supported apps from the Market work.
You will need to install a custom version of Maps for Google Maps Navigation to work outside the US. Keep in mind there are some limitations. Search for the thread in the Dream Android Development forum to read how to install and what the limitations are.

Exactly what I thought. I prefer the double tap
There is, afaik, no "UK Nexus" and "US Nexus".
They're the same.
If the preinstalled apps in the version sold to US citizens don't have multitouch, the ones sold to Brits won't either.
Same hardware and software, only if you're having it sent to UK, you get the option of getting an adapter for you charger separately.
It's explained on the official support page, which I'm not allowed to link to.
Be very careful about importing any phone into different regions. All kinds of problems can result, including NOT GETTING 3G COVERAGE! If things don't work for you, can you return the phone without trouble? That's a lot of money to spend on a phone that has problems!

The Neuxs One is a phone made for the whole world, so importing it will not result in problems with coverage as it supports the mostly used 3g bands around the world.
Also noone is importing the Nexus One to the UK since Google is specifically targetting UK residents and must of course provide customer service to them.
As for other countries which google is not really selling the phone to I don't know, but I assume that the warranty is world wide and you should not have trouble returning it.

It does obvious detect the network of the sim inserted, time and location of where you are automatically. Therefore updating the system and apps accordingly.

Really? How did it update these apps exactly? I had no 3g/edge/gprs or wifi when I set up. Are you suggesting that OTB there are multiple app versions? Are you saying that if you happend to be in the US and used a UK sim you'd get UK apps? I doubt that very very much, particularly as a SIM is not even required to setup.
SC
Let me break it down for you.
The phone has a inbuilt GPS. When you turn your phone on the very first time regardless of your sim being inserted or not. The phone will set itself up accordingly to where you are. During the first start up the phone takes longer if you didnt notice.

LOL I seriously doubt that happens either. If it did it would have taken a week for mine to start up. I work in what is essentially a giant Faraday cage. I just can't get a GPS signal inside.
So rather than you just making stuff up, can we stick to the facts?

I take it there's still no confirmation as to whether it will be available sim-free from an EU webstore when it is offered on Vodafone? In fact, unless things change, when it is subsidised by VF, it may be a case of signing up to a vodafone contract on google.com and still importing the handset. If there is some sort of google.co.uk offering, then presumably the price will reflect the VAT element.
i got one from ebay 470 free shipping..
Works fine so far, how do i get the maps working? whats the old hero method? Ive never had an hero lol
I want a HD2 to use with at&t 3g the t9193 model but cant decide if I should buy the australian version or if I should spend a little more money and get the version that on the go solutions has. I cant post a url for being a new member. but its the version on the fist page of their website. I have read alot into getting this phone but dont think I am capable of flashing the phone and or getting rid of the telstra bloatware. I like the conveniency of everything being done but is it worth paying 900$ for. Thank you.
I wouldn't worry too much about the telstra bloatware... You can uncheck any of the sense tabs that are telstra related and you can run a fix that allows you to remove the top 3 (of 9) links on the home tab as these are normally locked to telstra related items...
I noticed that your radio and rom are both stock for your hd2a. Are u using at&t and if you are is it running good. Can u get rid of that blue telstra home screen and get the nice black one.

I have got US-Tmobile HD2 and it works great. No issues - but since you are planning keeping your AT&T service, I think that paying $900 for HD2 is way beyond any normal acceptance.
Don't get me wrong - I love my HD2 and plan to keep it at least 1.5-2 years... BUT:
6.5 will be dead pretty soon...
Many more phones are coming out for better price than $900 and having better hardware functions as well...
If I was stretched between AT&T and having 3G needs on it - I would consider good unlocked Android phone...
Just my $0.02
I want my Hd2 to run like the verizon Hd2 how difficult would this be to setup and do you think someone new to this would be able to complete the installation without messing something up? Any input helps thank you. looking into one on ebay but dont want to miss it before the sale is up. Thank You.
does no one want to help me out
I have been weighing the same options over the past few weeks. I have a FUZE. and I am sick of it...lagging, quirky and so on... I want a new phone (and really the HD2) so badly that I was even considering just buying the TMO HD2 for use on ATT to save money and just deal with no 3G speeds.
In the end I have decided to be patient. WP7 is coming out in October or so. If those phones (fast processor, big screens, other cool features) are desirable for my needs and get good reviews - then I might go that way.
At that same time - because of the new OS and Phones release coming in october ---the then technically obsolete WM 6.5 phones should go down in price...including the HD2. So that is my advise - wait and see how it plays out if you can wait until october.
Do not know how accurately this will all pan out - but I can just not bring myself to pay more ($750.00+) than I would for a full blown laptop for a phone (even though I use it more!)
BTW - I guess I never answered the question...and that is if you are not familiar or comfortable with flashing - then the extra money for the OTG solutions full version as an insurance policy against you bricking it is worth it..
Good Luck

The main problem is whether you buy the t9193 or the tmous hd2, you'll never get 3g on AT&T's network. The U.S. GSM network is slightly different when it comes to 3G specs with the rest of the world and there T-Mobile's network is different from AT&T's 3G network.

You are half right. You will never get 3G on AT&T's network with Tmous HD2, but you will get 3G on AT&T's network with HD2 T9193 version.
I'm finally thinking of getting a smart phone to replace my X51v and Sony-Ericsson flip phone combo.
I'm currently on T-Mobile in the Atlanta area, and am thinking about a HD2.
It's a WinMO 6.5 phone, so all the apps that I'm used to, including my I-Go GPS, will run on it. I'm very familiar with WM6.5 since it has been running on my X51v since Lenny came out with a cooked ROM.
However, TMOUS is not selling this phone anymore. So, it looks like I have to go the eBay route. And, there are 2 possibilities - the T-Mobile version and the international (Leo) version.
1) Can anyone offer good reasons to go with one version or the other. Just wondering if the Leo will work with TMOUS 4G,or do I need the TMo version of the phone for this.
2) I also have a plan that they don't offer anymore -"T-Zone Talk & Text Nationwide" that I got when the SE T68i came out in 2002. It works with tethering and with pretty much unlimited browsing on my phone, will it work with the HD2? Or, will I need to change plans.
Thanks for any insight.

The T-Mobile site says "Out of Stock", which is why I started this thread. I'm thinking they are phasing them out for the HD7.
I'll check out the other site you listed. Also, Walmart and Amazon show them in stock. And, Amazon sells both versions: the T-Mobile and the International.

I was in our local Tmobile yesterday and they had one on display still but you are probably right. There is no reason for them to keep them around if they want to sell HD7's. they were listed as 99 bucks with a two year contract.
In order to get 4G on T-Mobile US you MUST have the TMO US version of the HD2, international versions will not get 3G or 4G, only EDGE speeds.

I just got 2 new HD2s at the T-Mobile store off of Dallas Highway (120) and Barrett a week ago.
They told me that they are phasing out the HD2 and replacing it with the HD7. They still may have some in stock in the store...I don't know.
I went to the store because after I placed the online order they told me they were on backorder....I went to the store and got my phones, but it looks like they are still shipping out the ones from the online order as well....So I will have a few extra. I was going to send them back, but I'll sell you one for whatever it costs me to keep it. I can meet in the Douglasville or Dallas area. e-mail me at [email protected] if you're interested. I get e-mails right away.

I got mine for free over the black friday weekend ^_^. Online deal only but the guy in the store matched the online deal for me.
Try Walmart
I got mine a few months ago from Walmart.com and saved a lot. You might find it even cheaper now in the store IF they still have any. Try that before you go the eBay route. You want a new, clean phone if you can get it. Unlike a lot of others, my HD2 has worked fine from Day 1. Like you, I wanted to replace my old Dell X51v and old Nokia phone. I have a lot of apps that I couldn't find good replacements for in Android or iOS, so I wanted to stay with WM6x for a while longer. I have not found any of my old apps that do not work, although some are clearly meant for stylus use and a little hard to use with fingers.
I will suggest this: if it works, don't make any changes other than loading your applications. Mine is still the same OS version it came with. I just put the default task manager as a quick link on the main screen so I can shut down apps that don't have their own Exit method. In the Start menu folder, I created some sub-folders to organize my app shortcuts. That way I can have all my apps only a couple of taps away (Start/folder/application shortcut). I don't have to do a lot of scrolling to get to the apps I use the most.
I have had no problem with T-Mobile in my area. (However, even though my area is supposed to have the higher speed service, I don't see it in my downloads.)
If you can get an HD2 you will have most likely the last WM6x device. It is the end of the line.
Good luck.
I meant to ask this ages ago, when i purchased my HD2 last year on eBay UK it was brand new and boxed and locked to T-Mobile UK,that wasn't a problem as i have a T-Mobile UK SIM anyway but i got it unlocked.
The thing is though,im sure this has to be a TMOUS HD2 as the internal storage is 1024 and not the EU 512, how is this if it was initially locked to T-Mobile UK?
Has anyone else got as HD2 like this?
Is it possible that "locked to t-mobile UK" could actually be "locked to t mobile"? I'm fairly sure I remember reading of a guy with an Orange France phone that worked fine on Orange UK a year or two back.(edit - or maybe voda)

Not sure to be honest, the person i bought it off said they were with T-Mobile UK and had gotetn an upgrade to the HD2 but decided to sell it to get the money instead, im not complaining though as i have the extra internal space but it took me a while to notice this, as i said i got it unlocked and it works fine on any SIM card ive tried.

well, its pretty critical that you know for sure before you do any kind of flashing, because the tmous is much easier to brick.
What colour is the send key? white or green? does it say tmobile under the earpiece? got a screen shot of the hardware info page?

well, its pretty critical that you know for sure before you do any kind of flashing, because the tmous is much easier to brick.

I've flashed loads of ROMS mostly without any issue.
the send key is white, no it doesnt say t-mobile under the earpiece, hardware info page just says Wi-Fi MAC address unavailable and Bluetooth adress unavailable.
??
well, its not a tmous case anyway. the hardware info page i was expecting you woudl show flash size and such like. but im not on winmo to check the keypresses to get there, hehe.
Guess it doesn't matter, since you've flashed before.

yeah i was thinking as such as it was locked to T-Mobile UK and i bought it in UK but i cant understand how i have the extra internal space.
Hi, I'm not really sure how the GT works. Can I for example put a normal phone sim in it and use the data allowance on that sim?
I use internet, games and multi media first on my devices and calls way, way second so I think the Tab would be good for me as an all in one device but I cant get it on a normal phone monthly contract just a stupid data one. My plan would be to buy it off contract and then get a "3" sim that comes with unlimited data and free minutes and txt. Would this work ok or is there another device better?
Many Thanks

Hi,
It is possible to use it as phone but it's not very handy because of the bigness -> not comfortable to hold while phoning. But for games and movies it would be no bad solution.
But I would buy a netbook, you can do much more with it...

I understand what you mean but the most important thing for me is all in one device. Even if its crappy as a phone that's fine as long as i can use it. The way i see it is with a simple blue tooth head set it doesn't really matter what size the device is.
The Galaxy Tab is the perfect all-in-one device at the moment. I'm enjoying mine too much, actually.
im thinkin about tradin for one but from what ive been readin they are stopin ppl at att from using it as a phone

Pretty much everywhere outside North America, the Tab ships with phone functionality enabled and no carrier restrictions except for SIM locks when bought under contract.
I presume the OP is in the UK, in which case they'll have no issues doing as they plan. I travel frequently in Europe, and tend to swap prepaid data and voice SIMs in and out of the Tab regularly without issue.

Dave

I am in the UK so am I right in thinking that if I put a "3" Sim in with all you can eat data and txt and minutes, that's all I will need?

As long as it's not a SIM locked Tab, yes!

Hello!
I am from Germany and am using the Galaxy Tab as a full mobile phone and mp3Player replacement for 4 Month now! The only Point is, that i have to choose jeans with enough big pockets to fit the tab in!
So when you say, that calling is at second priority, then i really can recommend it to you!
I just love this over sized phone. Lol. When I bought my tab, I had to buy a sling bag so that I can carry it around and with bluetooth, I had no problem taking my calls. Emails and messaging on the go is now normal to me. Anything that I will need on the go, tab works fine for me.
Of course if you think 7" is a bit large, go for smaller phone like galaxy s. Comparatively, if you need better power, go for laptop or netbook but as you know it, they are heavier.

The battery life of the GT is even a lot better than some laptops.
Bluetooth headset with screen is fine, but it's kinda big to carry around all the time.
Thanks for all the input. Ive got a couple more months with my HTC HD2 and the Gtab looks like my top runner for an upgrade.
Many Thanks

I know you'll enjoy it
i hesitated at start if to replace my Nexus one with the tab, and after doing so i don't regret it one bit.
it is by far the best device i had in terms of usability, the big screen allows me to see clearly and quickly without having to concentrate on what i'm searching for.
have an A2DP bluetooth headset, wearing Jeans most of the time so have no problem putting it in my back pocket.
