[Q] Evo Will not sign onto 3g need assistance - EVO 4G General

Hardware Version 0003
Im having a issue with my Evo a few days ago I switched from mikfroyo to mikginger and since then i have only been able to get onto a CDMA-1xrtt network or 4G. could this just be a build issue on mikginger or is it possible that it is a issue with my actual hardware? I checked my gf's evo which is still on mikfroyo and shes able to get 3G and is never on 1x.
After searching I havent found anything to support the idea that its mikginger but has anyone else had this issue before I do a complete wipe and take the phone back to the new OTA

(Nandroid first) Flash a rooted 2.2 ROM, whether it be stock, Azrael, or such.
Go into EPST (Dial ##3282#, Choose edit mode), enter your MSL code, Data Profile, hit the menu button and choose restore. Just sit there, your phone will reboot and everything will go back to default. This should fix your 3G issue.
Have you updated your radios or something recently? I have, and seem to be staying on 3G more often.
I don't know about restoring from your nandroid, you can try it, but I always start fresh.

Download MSL reader from the market and write down your MSL code
Dial ##3282#
Choose edit mode
type in your MSL
Select Data Profile
Hit Menu on your phone
Hit restore
hit okay.
It will reboot phone and reactivate. You should have 3G after that. I had to do that as well recently. the stock EVO only shows 3G even when I am in 1X so I was always in 1X just didn't realize it.

What these guys said It doesn't need to be a stock rom, just a sense rom.

As you've found out, the notification icon is more of a guideline and spoof by HTC/Sprint to show 3G most of the time within the script. The aforementioned tips could very well do the trick for you or it could be hardware related. I've done those steps and countless hours of doing everything under the sun to going as far as unrooting to see if it would come back..no dice. I was traveling and had the issue in several states, so it wasn't a local network issue as well.
One thing you can do is go into a rom with 2.0 or later sense. Go to Settings:>About phone:>Network...look under Mobile network type. If it says CDMA - EvDo rev. A, you can stop worrying about your 3G being borked. Going to an area that you KNOW has 3G may help with being comfortable. If it says 1Xrxx then you might have a hardware issue as I did, and had to get mine swapped out. Hopefully it's within the first year or you have the insurance if that is the case.
Hopefully the tips given before fix the issue, which it should aside from hardware issues.
Good Luck

thanks, it did the trick I am using MikGinger and ended up doing a full wipe for the update, did the trick and im back to my normal speeds
Thanks Everyone

I have the same issue after flashing a MikG rom. However, entering ##3282# in my dialer doesn't do anything. It doesn't launch EPST as its supposed to. How do I fix that?

what mik rom are you using, I have no problem with 2.0 and my issue was on 1.4

I'm using the latest, 2.15. I wiped everything before flashing. I tried updating the profile and even called Sprint to have an updated data profile pushed to my phone, but it still only shows 1x and the speeds are terrible.

The strange thing is that I wasn't able to use ##DATA# on my phone before I flashed to MikG either. I got 3G Rev A, but I couldn't get into EPST.
I flashed another ROM today (deck gingerbread 1.2) and I still don't have 3G. Any help?

OK, so I flashed to an AOSP Gingerbread ROM where I was still having the issue with only seeing 1x.
Then I flashed the latest radio, NV and PRI. Still no 3G.
Then I flashed to the latest stock rooted ROM. There I was finally able to get into EPST and change the setting to Automatic. It was on CDMA Only.
I now see State 3 = Connected in the EVDO Engineering menu from the Field Test Menu (##33284#). Hope this helps someone else. No wonder I had been getting ****ty "3G" speeds ever since I got my EVO. I wish the stock ROM would tell you that you're on 1x, not EV-DO, like every other phone does.
Now as my final step, I'm about to restore the backup of the Sense 2.1 ROM I flashed yesterday.

Restoring back to MikG 2.15 was a success, I have actual 3G now.
My apps are all there, but user data is gone and the apps that I downloaded from the Android Market don't show in the My Apps section. I might hard reset and install everything from scratch because I don't know if its as smooth as it could be either.

No 3G
I'm having the same issue on my girl friends phone. When I flash mikg rom on it no 3G, only 1x. When I flash fresh evo, it works just fine. I wonder why this is? My phone has no problems what so ever. I flashed the same roms she did.

How are you flashing? What recovery? Are you wiping everything? Are your radios up to date? Did you update prl and profile after flashing?

Im using AM 2.3 recovery. I did all that. I wiped everything. The funny thing is that I did the same thing on my phone that I did on hers and mines works perfect. We went from Fresh EVO to MikG. I put her back on Fresh evo (flashed the new version) to fix the issue. But she is being a pain in the butt and wants the same ROM cuz she wants to use some of the themes for MikG and what not. Anyways, I'm going home and going to try the fix using ##DATA# and see if it works. I'm just more curious to know why this happens to some phones and not others.

it worked
Well going to fresh evo then restoring my networking using ##DATA# worked. I flashed MikG and she has 3G now. Thanks guys.

Radio Fail

I just recently went back to 2.2; using Mammon's build.
As I was laying next to my phone I heard the phone making the radio reset noise.. so I checked it turns I lost connection to the sprint towers, had no data or anything but.. Roaming worked just fine..just couldn't pull any data from sprint.
I updated PRL and Profile with no success in fixing it; and reflashed the dk17 modem to fix the issue.
Was just posting this to see if anyone has had this issue; and the reason it's not in Mammon's ROM post is because I believe this to be the Modem issue Firon ran into previously before the leak's 'lauch'
I have had this issue with ALL froyo roms, even the stock one. I cannot run froyo for this reason. Im not sure what the problem is.

Fix for 3G drops

I started having this same issue after installing incredible 2 v2.01 and trying all radio with that. Then didn't like the Rom because still buggy, so I went with the original unmodified GB leak and my 3g speeds were gone, kept getting 1x, and no more then two bars. So my solution was to download the RUU in the stock Rom thread. I think the software that installs these roms have yet themselves to work correctly. I don't think they properly format/wipe the phone correctly. After the stock install I'm back to normal with nice speeds and four bars.
Stock 7.28 radio as well.
Add: In the case of a radio hboot doesn't seem to be over-writing the old radio correctly, maybe.
Yes flashing the RUU back to the stock ROM fixes the 3G problems but after doing that you can reflash back to another ROM without a problem. I had the same problem too with a custom ROM the first time but after reflashing the RUU I had no more 3G problems with any of the 3 ROM's I have flashed since.
Agreed - as long as you RUU you should be good to go.
Its odd you would have a data issue with that port though. Its still a Verizon based port and in theory you should be able to #228 with no issues.
There have been times I have tried to #228 and it just wouldnt take until later on (few hours) and when my gf came to see me this week (cross-country trip) she couldnt #228 right away either.
I have noticed that since I have updated CWR the actual functions in CWR take longer to process. Dont know why.
Every unit is different and will yield original results. Dont let this sway you away from flashing away.
I wish there was an actual stable custom, would be nice, and great work done, hats off to everyone, I can only imagine how time consuming it is, but I continue to go back to stock. I however will be looking out for the most stable GB with 2.1.

Problems with 3g and ROMs

So when I first rooted my phone I put Fresh on there. I installed the ROM and the 2 radio files. I then got the 3d and gave the evo to my gf, but fresh was very slow for me so I installed the CM7 ROM.
CM7 was very buggy for her, especially since she was new to Android I decided Sprint Lover's ROM on there and flashed a newer update on it since.
The problem is that she has been having problems with 3g. She has so many problems and errors with 3g data. It shows that she has 3g, but she gets errors when she tries to access the internet.
My question is, how can I get it back to stock or a nice rooted stock rom to try and fix this problem? Do I just flash a stock rom? I'm guessing the fresh radio's might be messing something up. If there is a simple solution to this without having to do a full erase I'm sure she prefers that, being that we've fully erased her phone like 4 times already, lol.
Thanks guys.
Get the Sprint Lovers all-in-one package from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153
It's flashed through hboot (it's a PC36IMG.zip) and will flash not just the rom but also the radios. This will wipe everything.
Alternately you can go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485 and get just the latest radios and flash those. Flashing this will not wipe everything.
If the problem is with the radios then that should fix it. If it doesn't, then it's likely that the issue lies somewhere else.
thanks, just installed the new radio's. Will see how it works.
I would definitely just get the app mybackup root and back everything up apps/data , sms etc.. Then just restore everything after you flash a new ROM.
Then just do a fresh install of what ever ROM you want then test out different radios till you find the best ones that work for you I'm on old radios because the newer ones didn't work great for me not all evos work the same .
I hope that helps you out some.

I got simalar problem like u.
I installed new radios, try different roms like MIUI, CM6, CM7, Miks, Minn, OMJ's, etc...... finally I go back to stock rom but still got the same problem.
I almost crazyy
the phone never got 3G signal, it only works 1G no matter what I did.
I've reserched couple days but looks like nobody got my problem.
now I fixed my problem btw... well I'm not sure this thing works to u or not
anyway try it if u still got 3G problem.
*I don't even remember where this posted originally,,, somewhere this forum or not,,
huge thanks to original author btw
download 'MSL reader' at market n get the numbers. it's 6 digits.
go to your phone and type ##3282#
tap 'edit mode'
type that 6 digits from MSL reader
tap 'data profile'
open menu n tap 'restore'
then the phone will be reboot.
when booting is done, your phone will start resistering to network.
after that, if something popup n ask update (mayb PRL update), 'cancel' it.
mine works perfectly now.
hope this work to u.
ok thanks, i'll try it out. I do get "3g" at the top though, but always get an error while trying to retrieve data.
Also, what files in the SD card are necessary? Is there a list? I think there are so many junk files in there taking up space, I don't know whats necessary and whats not.
Please help slow EVO 4G after flashing Sprint Lovers All In One
Obvious Noob here.
having issues with my Evo 4G after flashing Sprint Lovers All in one
phone seemed very fast immediatly after flashing SL but since then has become just overall slow.
in fact, i'm downloading an update to ROM Manager right now (a 2.27MB file) and it's taken literally 20 minutes to get to 75%. it's painful!
when i go in to manage applications...says "computing" on space, data and cache etc.
before i flashed SL all in one i ran factory reset 3x in a row prior to flashing - i did NOT re-format my SD card but had it removed (after unmounting).
Should i try to wipe and re-flash or just go to CM7? Are there any things i can try before re-flashing or moving to another rom? Please help..
thank you OB1B

MIUI signal dropping

Hey guys,
before you guys roast me Ive asked the guys on the MIUI forums this question before but have been unable to get a sufficient answer other than "flash the newest radios" which I've done before.
My problem is when I'm at home(and only at home) I get an inconsistent signal. My phone will have an OK signal one moment, and then a minute later have no signal at all. This only happens in the apartment complex which I live in. Everywhere else my phone functions as it did before.
The problem apparently happens when I flash a new version of MIUI outside of my home. It happened this summer and never resolved for months, even after I switched to a sense ROM and flashed new radios. After a while the problem went away by itself and I switched back to MIUI no problems, and have been back on MIUI for a couple of months now.
Last week I flashed a new version of the ROM outside of home again and the signal problems returned. When my signal first went bad I contacted Sprint and they told me of a "single cell outage" however the other people with Sprint phones in my building get service. So I'm inclined to believe I've done something to my phone that causes this signal drop.
Can anyone please help me???
Well you did all the trouble shooting yourself if everything fails the only problem is possible is the phone itself. If you have insurance just take down to Sprint store have them check it out. Also try turning on roaming see if that helps. Best of luck.

Instead of upgrading your radios, have you tried downgrading?
It could be a coincidence that your problems happen when flashing away from home. It could also be that some file is made on first boot of the rom that somehow affects your connectivity. It doesn't seem likely, but I don't really know what else it could be. Try Reflashing the rom over itself without wiping data... of course do this while at home. If you're not wiping system in between flashes then try doing a full wipe - boot, system, data, cache, dalvik, SD-ext, .android_secure - and flashing MIUI while at home. I know that the problem persisted after flashing a Sense rom and updating radios, but it's worth a shot. If that doesn't work, try downgrading your radio and/or PRI/NV.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't have time to do a full wipe right now since I have finals in a few days, but as soon as they are done I'll do a full wipe and maybe convert back to a SENSE rom and update the radios etc. Then I'll flash MIUI again.

You only need a sense rom to update the prl; you can update the radio, PRI, and NV through a flashable zip in recovery.
So I never wiped my phone/updated my PRI etc. but miraculously I have regained signal at home. I received my bill from Sprint and a few hours later I regained service. Cheers to Sprint, the shadiest phone company not named Boost Mobile!

[Q] 1xII Internet being slow Energy Rom 3.5

Hello guys I just flashed my new evo 4g with Energy Rom 3.5 did all the data wipe and cache from rom manager, and I am not able to get 3g service all I get now is 1x service. Any Clues ?
It could be that you've had 1x service the whole time. Most custom roms disable the sprint hack that would show 3g when in fact you're in a 1x area.
If that's not the case. you can always try re-downloading the rom (in case of a bad download), or updating your profile and prl.
You didn't properly wipe your phone before flashing the rom. Please do it again.

Agreed - Rom Manager will only cause you problems, you need to start doing things in recovery. Switch to Amon Ra recovery, then in recovery wipe everything except sd, then flash the rom.
well tried wiping again and installing amon ra recovery using it to wipe all of the data/cache/dalvic and installing energy rom... again also tried installing the cyanogen and couple of others, still no go still getting 1x speed and icon on most of them. my gf shift evo 4g gets 3g service, with 3g speeds abeit not too fast but, it does work cause it's running cyanogen mod, aosp kernel and everything. is there a way to do a complete restore to factory now.... can you point me to the right direction on how to get that done
I had the same exact problem and this worked for me. I found it on goodandevo.net
After following these directions I upgraded to the latest prl and maintain 3g.
'Turn off your GPS. Dial ##3282#, and select Edit. Enter your MSL, then go to Data Profile. Push the menu button, then tap on Restore. Push OK to reboot. Allow the phone to go through hands-free activation, but WATCH YOUR PHONE CAREFULLY AND PRESS CANCEL WHEN IT BEGINS TO UPDATE PRL.'
Found this in the comments here: http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/09/st...t-3g-back.html
Obviously, first you will have to flash a ROM that has working EPST, after restoring 3g, it should hold thru all following flashes.
Have you updated profile and prl?
