Hi, first of all i'd like to thanks everyone in this forum because without you it would have been impossible for me to install a custom rom on my x8! (Froyobread, very nice job!)
However as being unable to use pinch zoom as having a cypress chip in my device, i was wandering if there's any way to enable single finger zoom like in the original out-of-the-box SE rom.....
Can anyone help me?
thanks in advance
Isnt it based on the app you want to use zoom on?...
I mean, if you want to zoom on browser, browser will have function for zoom in when double press screen.....
I think it's not... in fact if my phone has had the synaptic chip i would be pinching instead of pressing zoom-in and zoom-out buttons in every apps preinstalled in the modded rom; however i've heard about standalone applications that supports single finger zoom like you said, but in this case it's different; i think that x8 sony ericsson's eclaire rom has a module similar to x8gesture that can handle single finger zoom for the entire operating system's apps....
sorry for my english and thanks for the answer!

Try deleting x8gesture module from /system/lib/modules using root explorer.

I've done as you said, but nothing changed... always zoom-in and zoom-out buttons in the bottom right corner.....
In browser? Try it in gallery.

You think wrong then. Eclair has a one-finger-zoom only in gallery as far as I remember. I don't know about stock browser (I never used that) but none other app supported it as I remember, and definitely no non-ROM app supported it. And all custom ROM apps are build for either button zoom or pinch zoom... this is simply how cyanogen mod works, they didn't think that any company would go for something as archaic as non-MT digitizer
Stock eclair has 1 finger zoom only in gallery, that's all.

I have installed a couple more keyboards i.e. Verizon 2.1 with voice input and also swype, but each time i select these i lose the ability to pinch to zoom.
Works ok if i revert back to the stock keyboard, anyone else seen this and have a solution for it ?
thanks
Link is here. Here
Pinch to zoom seems to be working again now and not done nothing since posting here, very strange.
Does it work once restarted? As in switch phone off then back on?
nope does the same even if this phone is restarted.

I've been having problems with pinch to zoom too, but i had no idea it was linked to the keyboard. Both seem to work perfectly fine usually, but after heavy use i notice pinch to zoom stops working, but is OK after a reboot. Would love to get a fix for this.
I've installed the voice to text with the Verizon keyboard download, and although pinch-to-zoom works most of the time, it occasionally scatters the small home screens to the edges of the screen, and I have to press the home buttone to reset them. But it still works 99% of the time.
Sweet works fine for me, deffo prefer htc keys for typing though. its auto correction is great
Hey guys,
I was having this problem but I figured it out.
Go into the browser, change to the third party browser, exit the browser and restart the phone.
Then pinch zoom works..
you can swap back and forth from the default and the third party one again with pinch zoom enabled.

Verizon 2.1 is considered warez, you shouldnt post it
and regarding the issue, ... does it happen on ALL pinch to zoom applications? i.e. home screen, .. browser, ... galllery ... etc ? or just the browser when using swype? .. what if you used swype in messaging and then sent a message and closed the messaging application, does the pinch gets effected?
I am using swift and I have also used swype beta. Pinch to zoom has never been an issue for me at all. My friend has had this issue thought and he just restarts his desire and then it works again.

anybody got a fix for this?? it's really annoying not having pinch-to-zoom, i tried switching back to the android keyboard, but still doesnt bring the pinch-to-zoom function back...
same thing will happen in google maps and gallery
Hi,
by now we all know that we aint getting any multitouch, but the necessity of multitouch still remains. If you are using default browser/skyfire then you have to find a spot in the website to click (where there are no links), then the Zoom In/Out comes up. If you are using Opera, then if you double tap it zooms out to a default value (nope, you cant change the zoom out level).
Both of the above methods are not that great. I was wondering if it is possible to make an app that would use the volume button to zoom in/out. So when you are in browser or map or pic viewer, you press the volume button, it zooms in/out.
I think this app would be awesome
The only problem is I dont know how to make it
So can any dev work on this PLEASE. I am pretty sure lot of us and also people with other phones could use this app.
Thanks in advance
Bikram
PS: Non devs pls back me up in this (might bring some attn)
I'd be interested in an app like that.
EDIT: Not a dev, but I see a problem with that...wouldn't that mean an entire browser needs to be made? (Unless SkyFire or Opera made an update for their browsers)
EDIT2: Another thought, do any of the Android browsers support add-ons? I'm going to figure this out tomorrow
it could be possible though you need the source code of one of the apps weather it be skyfire or opera.
I think the devs have the source code for the default browser. Right??
Hi,
there are APIs for Creating Browsers (its not very hard actually) but i dont know if the same APIs allow adjusting of zoom level, if so, the second question is if we can get the events of the Volume buttons.
Lets see
I am not sure what you are talking about, but I am sure there are API's for volume. Even if not then we might be able to find it in the decrypted ROM.
What im saying is that i dont know if it is possible to block Volume Adjusting and instead use it for Zooming.
My guess is yes though.

What? You don't need to create it. It's already here in the forums.
Go here and follow the instructions:

Reboot your phone, download "Multitouch visualizer" from the market and test it there.
i have 1 and 2 in Multitouch visualizer, but cannot zoom in when i using browser..how i fix it?
You need to be sure, that all files you download from xda are on their places.Make sure, that module for pinch to zoom is in the system\lib\modules folder, and that you correctly entered the code in hw_confih.sh

Hi guys,
I have the setting enabled that is meant to reflow text on webpages like my old Desire HD, but I see no difference, it still requires painful finger panning left and right to read a website.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

It reflows only when double tapping.
There was something in the forum somewhere - I think if you look in something like SGS2 tips or something... I'm pretty sure the thread had the word 'easteregg' in it, so search that...
Ok, actually looking for this myself...

Use opera mobile browser free from the market. Even better than HTC's browser IMO. Auto - text reflow works extremely well!
I agree that opera's reflow is top notch. I also love the browser for its silky smooth performance, but it drives me nuts that it doesn't use the standard android user agent. So pages specifically designed for android (and there are a lot of these) just show up in a generic mobile format and don't look as good.
Opera's agent can be changed in opera:config page. I used it a lot, but now I'm back at stock browser, as Opera can't display some sites I use properly.
And yeah, trick is to doubleclick on paragraph to fit it. Pinch zoom just zooms. Imho it's good combination.
I've tried on my SGS2 to pinch-zoom and double-tap to reflow. No luck. It works on my SGS1 running Gingerbread 2.3.3. stock, but no luck on the SGS2. It just zooms in or out when I double tap the text.

Go into the browser settings, select 'Auto-Fit' and then double tap on a webpage to have the browser zoom and reflow to a readable size.
Regards.
Opera mobile's text relow is really good, just zooming activates it without needing to double tap

Sure, and change the zoomfactor by pinch and zoom a little and what happens? Correct, nothing, even with autofit enabled.
The stock browser does NOT auto-reflow. It only has two (fixed) zoomlevels with text reflow. Rather useless.
Yes I think this counts as a Samsung Bug. After the double press to fully zoom in, then try pinch zoom out -- you get text reflow -- but try pinch zoom in -- no text reflow -- useless.
Text reflow on pinch zoom in has always worked on all HTC phones. I presume this works on Stock Android (nexus phones).
This does not work on the s1 ether. Oh dear, why does Samsung break really good features. They have also broken fullscreen flash video which always shows the status bar. But never shows on HTC phones.
How can we get this bug officially reported to Samsung?
I'm from 3 HTC phones as well and I'm missing this feature.
My solution: Set Dolphin browser as default
Nope the dolphin browser does not do it either, just reflow on zoom out only. (I think it uses the same engine as stock)
I refer to the kind of reflow you're talking about as 'dynamic reflow', where the text reflows with pinch zooming to whatever level you like, because that differentiates it clearly from double-tap to zoom and reflow to one zoom level (the only behaviour in the stock browser). I only point that out because it might help stop some of these "no it doesn't reflow", "yes, it does reflow - enable autofit" arguments.
I use Opera because it supports dynamic reflow, so I'd suggesting using that.
This whole thread is about 'dynamic reflow'.
WHY has Samsung disabled 'dynamic reflow' on the stock browser when it works just fine on HTC phones. Presumably this is a standard Android feature.
How do report this bug to Samsung? Common guys lets get Samsung to fix this in thier next release.
Old news ...
I think this "old" thread already covers this subject ...

This is a problem. on my sgs, i could zoom to any level and then double tap to reflow text, i was surprised when it didn't work on the sgs2. also, i agree, flash video fullscreen keeps the f'in status bar where as on the sgs it was not a problem. we need firmware fixes now!

Why the flame dude? I was responding to the OP, not going off topic disussing dynamic reflow (not auto reflow). We all know the browser doesn't offer dynamic reflow, neither does bone stock Android. It's not a killer feature, if it bothers you that much there is a plethora of third party browsers out there.
Regards.
The samsung infuse does seem to have text reflow in the browser. That's even stranger.

Problem is that you can't "zoom-in" any further and then double-tap the paragraph to make it fit with the larger size. Both my OG SGS and Atrix could do this.
Unless there is something that I'm missing here to get the stock browser to work?...
Hi
I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread with found bugs in the 2.3.3 software for the X10. Please report other bugs here.

Your camera does not work in Portrait mode?
Or you mean the menu does not rotate?
In my X10, camera DOES work in Portrait mode...
Even Upside down, it will work...
But the menu stay in Landscape mode only...
Why not just say the menu does not rotate...
Instead of saying camera does not work?
Is your camera stop taking picture in Portrait mode?
It might be a feature and not a bug...
bugs for me:
- unable to open any https webpage in any of the browsers (dolphin,stock,opera...)
- when going to m.facebook.com and clicking any external link it does not work, tried all the browsers
These 2 features used to work perfectly on 2.1
Yes, you are right. The menu of the camera is not rotating from landscape to potrait. for me it feels like a bug.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I don't have any issue accept RAM. Although it's low but the phone run smooth.
there's a similar thread here fyi
Ok, the camera menu seems like a bug.
continuing in that thread then. Thanks
I personally think this is a better thread with the bugs in the first post. I'll read the other One though. Not all issues in the other thread are bugs...
- ugly looking UI & apps,
- one way camera UI,
- music app much behind from Mediascape (o.k., equalizer, but the rest is crap)
- calendar like from stone age, useless
- not any connection between UI of stock apps, like they were doing a car from different company spare parts
- ...
I'm still on 2.1.B.0.1, rooted and JIT.
Regards, Zagor
Im closing this cause there is already a 2.3.3 issues thread
