I wish i could do a screen shot....but with 8% battery life left and already downloading all the SS programs in the market, it wont be done.
I haven't charged my phone for 1day 15hrs 39mins, and still have 8% battery life.
Using nothing more than the built-in Task manager (aka performancemanager.apk) i have been testing my phone out to maximize battery.
Display has been auto
no task killers downloaded
setcpu profiles active
launcher pro with 7 hopmescreens all full with widget5s and programs
over 200 apps downlloaded from market
background sync on
no lwp on
no battery reconditioning done to my knowledge
i will be writing a more indepth walk through on my settings, apps, and how i use setcpu profiles within the next couple hours...hope this helps others, please thank me if it did
*update*
Hope SOMEONE gets some good out of this

I can use my phone over two days without charging it and all I did was...nothing. I think the people who have problems with battery life are those who aren't at all familiar with how Android (and Android apps) work/s.
How long was the Display on?
just under 3 hours, just to reply to emails/texts, phone calls and a little gps/market browsing.
someone gave this a one star, nice...well i guess if no one cares about details i will just have the mods close thread...
Why make threats. Just close the thread down if that's what you want to do.

I only started using Android with my Atrix. I did have a rom on sd for my Tilt2, but that was not even close to Android goodness. And phobos512, the very thought that you voiced is exactly what I am after. Any chance that you could point me toward an explanation or elaborate about how Android and Apps work.
The upcoming guide from justflorin will be like having a fish handed to me. What you speak of will teach me to fish.
Thanks to you both in advance.
I would definitely be interested in hearing some more about this being new to android. I'm currently averaging around ~14 hours I think from unplugged to 5% or so...
How my atrix is getting me 1day 15hrs of battery life...

I can make it a solid day usually but my display is on longer than 3 hours easily. If you leave your phone alone of course the battery isn't going to drain as fast.

I can EASILY last two and a half days if I wanted to. SETCPU is set to 760 Max, goes down to 400 some when screen is off. Battery manager is maximum profile (honestly besides email, why do you need apps to constantly sync??).
Best phone and battery I have EVER had.

I'm getting 1d 15 hrs on average... I'd say usually about 1d 18 or 19 hrs.
Dude, im using launcher pro too. 7 screens, almost exact same setup. No task killers. I get 30 hours, you're absolutely correct.

if hes syncing emails and social media theres no way he gets that kind of battery life. im currently on 24 hours of phone idle with 1 hour of display time and 50% left but thats with all account sync off but i do have background sync on for stuff like weather widgets. its no secret just turn off stuff that sync like emails, calendar, contacts and FB and you will get great battery life.

dont see how this is possible imo.
i only use sync on wifi seeing as how i got the cheapest data plan known to man.
hardly text ever. just answer 10-20 phone calls a day. Play a few apps around 30-40min. a day the rest of the time its locked unless i check the time.
screen is on auto 5 screens on home screen with around 3 widgets on each and my battery last @ 14hours. at best
Hey guys,
I'm planning to get a Galaxy S2 and I would like to enquire on the battery life of it.
My daily usage will be lots of whatsapp, google talk, sms and some surfing. I wonder if I can get through a day with this usage using stock rom.
Thanks and looking forward for your response.

Sure it does. Go to the Galaxy S II General thread listing page, and search "Battery Life". I'm not sure what about that doesn't work as the top 5 topics (including this one) are about battery life, one of them being the thread BarryH referred to that has 400 replies.
I can confirm the search algorithm of XDA sucks.

agreed, I often do a quick search on a subject... see nothing, then create a new topic... where it shows me there is no similar threads... only to have people say it is old news/repost etc....
If you know the answer, just reply... if not, move along.
Overall the battery life is very decent for the hardware it is pushing.... but it is nothing special. I get about 16 hours out of it a charge... it might be the best battery performance I have had yet out of an android device, but not by much! As always, it depends on what you do and how often!
It is an amazing phone IMO, and you will not regret the purchase
my battery life is great, phone can easily last a day with heavy use. Just hope you dont get the android os bug.
I dont understand how quite a few official reviews claim they got 2 full days use.
I get 12 hours with very light use, if I'm lucky....
Mine was very satisfying as it was at 45%after more than 7hours of heavy usage. No movies. But wifi surfing. And plenty of calls.

I have the Android OS issue yet can still get 2 days of use. Granted, I'm a light user like you claim but perhaps explaining my light usage would help. Phone is currently at 66% battery with 15min of calls, 1hr 30min of screen on, and currently 17hrs 30min off the charger. When the screen has been on, it's only been for texting, installing some apps, some WordFeud and taking some photos.
If I extrapolate my current usage, I should be able to get around 50 hours out of this charge.

In Qik, do you see yourself upside down? That's what I'm getting. The other person will see me just fine. I can see them fine as well, just myself, upside down.
i got 18-24hrs on mine!!
I see. But with if 3G is always on instead of wifi?
Because I would be very happy if this phone is able to last me 12 hours, 3G on all the time, background sync on, whatsapp, google talk, sms and some light surfing of browser here and there..
Can I check the bug of the Android OS that drains the battery life a common problem among all the galaxy s2 users here?
The battery life of the S2 is awful. I honestly hate it.
I am not sure if I have the Android OS bug or know what really triggers it.
Anyway when I first got my device, I charged it for about 8 hours and started using it. Installed some applications - whatsapp, waze, news readers from major news sites, twitter, facebook (from what I can remember) - and turned on push emails for gmail, hotmail and yahoo. 3G and Wifi settings were turned on. With all these running, the battery life was really bad. I could hardly get more than 8 hours in a day. Tried this for a couple of days and gave up.
Hard reset the device to stock to test what was causing the battery drain.
1st full charge (battery lasted 26 hours)
with 3G turned on, only push gmail running and made a few calls. no wifi turned on and no wifi access points set up on phone
2nd full charge (still in process)
still running push gmail with 3G data turned on and installed whatsapp and running it with an active chat group that has a constant flow of messages (averaging about 60 -100 whatsapp messages per hour). currently battery is at 67% after 14 hours uptime.
If ever I will sell this phone, sure it will be for its ridiculous battery life and for how slowly it charges up. The combination of these two issues is a real psychological break down!!!
Anyway... anybody with a rooted phone has ever tried clocking the processor down to, say, 800 MHz? Does it improves batterry life somewhat? Because I am not having noticeable battery issues in idle, but I really do as soon as I use the processor, even if I deliberately avoid 3D games and in general any sort of power eating tasks.
Hi guys i know there are lots of similar posts about battery life etc but cant find the answer im looking for after a search of this forum as all answers seem to be on rooted devices, she does not want her x8 rooted and im really getting it in the neck for upgrading her in the first place lol.
My girlfriend recently got the 2.1-update 1 via pc companion and thats when the battery problems started. The battery drain problem has actually been getting progressively worse since this. This morning (after yet another full night charging 100%) after 30 mins of getting up today the battery was down to 83 %. I have already uninstalled maps updates, not that she ever used it anyway.
So my question is : is there a solution to this without rooting and/or having a custom ROM? becuase she making my life a misery lol.
Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the similar post

Well, 1st thing as Dx said. reboot after using wifi, 3g, music. reboot to make everything fresh.. but there's no other way to save battery without rooting I think. because I helped my gf installed a custom ROM for her and she said that the battery life changed, and it's way different than a original ROM. How come she doesn't wanna go custom? Sorry for my bad english.

Nah, rooting makes the difference. IMO Froyo ROMs have good battery life.
Well i think she might well have to go custom because the battery life is a joke now, nearly rendering her device unusable, think she just frightened cos i did her pc companion update and kinda blames me for the crap battery now, il have a read around the x8 forum on how to root.
Thanks everyone, apreciate it
Just try to keep off all things you don't need: Wifi, Bluetooth, Synchronization, 3G. also unninstall apps you don't need and do not use app killers to save RAM.
I think that is all you can do without rooting.

My friend, less RAM is actually a good thing. I've read through the web. just don't auto kill ALL the apps, kill those apps that when it doesn't look right or freezes. The more RAM you freed, the more battery it will drain. Serious.

I'm just a noob trying to help.
use a task killer and disable all what you don't need like bluetooth, data traffic, gps and wifi. yes i know my english is bad^^
disable wifi, gps, bluetooth and data traffic. stock 2.1update rom should get you about 3 days with those disabled. any apps that need them will ask you to switch them on again anyway. It's a little annoying to get used to at first especially when you're used to a fone that lasts a week without charge so I can understand how she feels especially if she only wants to text and do a few calls.
If you don't use wifi, 3g gps and rest of the s**t you should probbably buy a dumy phone.
With some "normal" usage you can be happy if it lasts for a day/day and a half.
2-3 is really success.
You do get a charger in the box with the phone you know?
Use your phone, stop wasting time on battery monitoring.

yeah but the idea is it's a MOBILE fone.. You dont want it plugged into the damn socket all the time!
If you need to use the GPS, WIFI etc. the app will ask you to switch it on so wheres the harm in turning it all off until it's required if it saves having to plug the thing in every day?!?
Nobody stated you should keep all the functions on.
But it should be understandable that, with some "normal" use, and by normal I mean regular texting, phonecalls, check facebook/twitter, refresh weather app, read mail and some news maybe you can't expect your battery to last 7 days like on dummy nokia.
Besides, you all forget that your biggest battery killer is the screen.
And another thing I noticed; when LED starts to glow green, your battery isn't fully charged. Check phone status. It becomes green after passing 90% I think, or so.
And the second thing I noticed is a HUGE differenc when charging the phone while it's on, for a hour and a half when the battery metter reaches 100% and when I turn it off and leave it charging over night.
The "night" option proved to be a lot better (battery lasts longer, doesn't fall so fast) + Every once in a while it is good to fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it.

Yeah, but that mobile phones have long since ceased to be just phones.
Switch off everything you can : wifi, brighteness, gps etc. Also you can make a profile "screen off " in setcpu and set it to 122mhz . it will save you a lot of battery! It drains just 1% after 5 hours ( but i didnt use my phone) . Hope it help.
Oh yeah and use the app called " fast reboot " it is so good is well and it speed up our lovely x8
When i used these things , my phone lasts in a week or more of.course i nearly didnt use my phone.

Seeing as I don't have enough posts to post over in the development forum, I thought I'd hijack this thread.
I installed this rom last week and at first, the batter was brilliant. It lasted for three days but now I have to charge it twice a day. I have bluetooth off, wifi off more often than not, brightness down very low.
The phone was 5hrs on battery and was down to 44%.
Cell Standby: 35%
Display: 20%
Phone Idle: 19%
Launcher Pro: 13%
Anyone have any ideas?
I also experienced the same problem ... especially with the overclocked conditions
Hi, my s2 is using villainrom 1.4 as an attempt to improve battery life. At the moment i am on 50% battery after 4 hours and a bit with screen on time at 2 hours. Even with moderate usage i hav never gotten over 12 hours...

Go to the built in battery monitor and check for wakelocks (when the screen is off, but the device is awake)

as what BSAKSOUK said, what apps do you have installed?
Try to uninstall all apps you have installed and see if you get some improvements, then install one, test again.
I found that NetCounter kicked in on my SGII and the phone never went to sleep, just screen off but it was awake and drained the battery in 12h
//Mike
I will try and post the sreenshots soon. It seems that awake and screen on is largely related. I may have to factory reset and see how the battery fairs then.
I did a *#1234# and saw my csc is unknown? Do u think there is somethin wrong with my modem? It seem when wifi is on it always drains the battery alot faster.
Ia there any app to monitor how much drain apps cause? Thanks guys

since you say you had the screen on for 2 hours, your battery seems correct. other people on this forum are claiming they get 4 hours of screen on time from a full charge. so if you had 2 hours and 50%, that seems right in line with proper results.
Ive had a few questions when it comes to my trial with samsung devices and this is where my story starts..
So I have had a mirage of Samsung devices starting with the Note 2, to the Galaxy s4, and now currently the Note 3. I have put as much time and effort as my noob abilities will allow me to and I'm honestly trying to figure out a couple of things. Throughout all these devices in less than one year I have realized that I can only get my battery to supply modest results. I have torn through xda and have done almost every solution out there to in order to increase my battery life. With no impacting results I sit here truly wondering how is it that people can really get more than a day out of these phones. I have honestly never been able to get any of these phones to 5-6 hours screen on time and more than 24 hours off the charger. I evny the people that swear they are heavy users and still get great battery life, but I just dont see how this is possible from my experience...
I would say on a normal day i use the device moderatly and somewhat carefully as to retain the battery life to the fullest. I normally have my phone on WiFi for about half the day but I do browse and do a bit on LTE too. I use all kinds of social apps (twitter, instagram, fb, hangouts for sms, etc) that are all using push notifications. I have a university email that uses exchange and that is push as well. I stream all my music using Google play music daily but also a lot on WiFi. I search the web a lot and use flipboard constantly. I hardly use any games except at home when I know I have my charger. So one of my questions is, does this classify me as a heavy user comparing to all of you people?
I have tried almost everything.. Wake lock detector, turning off absolutely everything location based, app ops, power saver for when I'm at work (8+ hours), turning off all the smart features, low brightness, turning off bloat, etc. But still nothing too spectacular for results. Keep I'm mind I'm all stock and for now I dont really want to change that. So my main question after that long story is, am I missing something? Should I be getting better battery life after all these attempts? Is my battery life ok for how I use my phone? Are there any other options so I can be like the people getting monster battery life?
What made me write this post is because I was at BestBuy and one of the Samsung reps had the same Verizon note 3 that I have. I asked him if I could see his battery stats (which he did not know how to find.. Wow) and his phone had been on for over a day and had 7 hours of screen on time.. It blew me away that he was getting extraordinary battery life and obviously didnt do a thing to try to preserve it.
Keep in mind the battery stats posted are actually some of the best Ive had when it comes to screen on time so usually its dead after about 16 hrs and 3 hrs screen on time.

if your doing graphic intensive stuff on the internet it will destroy your battery. The fact your chrome used almost as much battery as your screen makes me believe there's something wrong there..
My chrome browsing basically just consists of normal web pages and some embedded videos on news and sports sites. Is that enough to cause that much damage?

It shouldn't. But just to be sure, whenever you're done using your phone at times you can go into task manager holding down the home button and click the clear memory button under the RAM tab. That will stop all processes from continuing to run when you're done using them

Yeah I agree that something just doesn't seem right with Chrome using about as much battery as your screen. Try another browser, make sure you clear your recent apps, and turn off anything that you are not going to be using. I turn off all of the touch sounds and haptic feedback, as well as smart stay and air gestures, etc..I never really seemed to get the battery life that I thought I should be getting whenever I was on the Stock ROM.
Maybe chrome is the culprit but I do clear the ram and close apps all the time.. Its just frustrating that I'm trying everything and nothing seems to be changing much..

I personally like Firefox and Opera Mini, it's a matter of personal preference though. There are a bunch of browsers out there. I also use Battery Doctor and Clean Master to clear cache, junk files and applications running in the background. If your rooted you can download "Greenify" which would probably help you as well.

I have the Greenify Donation app, and love it. Stopped using Chrome because it was tearing my battery life down, using the Stock Browser and Boat Browser at times. Greenify also helps with some other apps that just keep running even though I didn't use them during the day. The only thing I have as an exception, is my Blackberry Messenger to communicate with my family abroad during the day and that app has been behaving nicely. Everything else, minus HD Widgets, has been Greenified, and I can go all day (unplug at 7A, plug back in around 9P with plenty of juice left.
So this is what I get after a long period using wakelock detector. Does anyone have any insight as to what this all means. What does the x538 refer to and how does this app show how it's affecting my phone? One is the CPU wake lock and the other is the screen.

The 538 is how many times it has woken the phone up (wake lock).

Is that amount excessive is the question?
