I have had my phone since Dec 24th, and as soon as I got it, I put on the privacy screen protector.
It was great, I say past tense because its now off of my phone, I have not noticed how amazing the screen on this phone really is. I never gave it a chance out the box.
I am not worried at all if the screen gets scratched now, I prefer the awesomeness of this amazing screen.
Does anyone have a simillar tale?
The screen protector I had made it so that you could not see from certain angle, but it was a problem for me if I did want to see it from a certain angle.
Well its off now.

I too had a screen protector right out the box for the first month. After reading all about gorilla glass and seeing the youtube videos I decided to take a chance and remove it. Now 7 months later I have not one scratch and no regrets. The screen so much more vibrant and so silky smooth to touch.
protector for the first month or so (privacy, liek yours, im guessing from the sprint 3 pack) nothing since and im still scratch free!
Scratch free since I bought the phone and never even thought of putting a screen protector on it. Gorilla glass was one of the deciding factors in my purchasing decision. I have also dropped it a couple times on concrete and tile and no cracking or anything.
Same deal here. Had one and found it got in my way because it interfered with swype (skipping and such.) I peeled the thing off and never used it since. Shattered the digitizer on my birthday, but that was quite a flight it took. Got it replaced and it's still perfect since replacement.
When I look at how scratched up my screen protector is, (also Realook brand) I know I made the right decision putting it on--of course I can only see that really with screen turned off, which is also great. My Epic is in the same pocket with keys and a Swiss Army Knife. I have one spare. Going "commando" isn't an option for me, and it hasn't affected my enjoyment one bit.

I keep my keys with my phone. It wouldn't look like the protector. I guarantee.
It's like putting one of those crappy bras on your car. To avoid a couple dings you drive a ridiculous looking car?
If I buy something nice, I want the full effect of it. Haven't had a screen protector on this beautiful screen since day 1 back in August. Not even the slightest scratch, and I'm not careful with it.
This thread makes me want to remove my screen protector...
I've gotten used to being able to shove it in my pocket now though, don't want to change now.
The only downside is that the scratches make my screen look greasy, or as if it has liquid on it
Sent from my SPH-D700
lol, seriously keeping the screen protector off if going to be my option, it seems like it should be safe, i have another friend that does not have the screen protector on and he also has no scratches
so i would recommend keeping it off, and of course i support those that want to keep theres on.
Power to the protector.
seriously.
Scratch free for the past few days, but im hoping it will be like that for the rest of the time for this phone.
I have more scratches on everything else. My screen is spotless. My worst worry is finger grease.
dropped my "protected screen" epic last night and one little hair line crack in the screen totally barfed the entire phone. completely useless. compared to my old tp2, the sammy screen glass, well, is garbage. the tp2 had a completely shattered glass and still was responsive to touch. one could FEEL the breaks and it still responded to touch. sammy, no go for a TINY LITTLE crack.
for me a day without phone is a day without business. tg for gv and gt.
honestly, the more i see my brothers evo and use it the more i wish i got an evo.
...officially given up on the samsung line of phones...
good luck mates
I dropped and smashed mine too. Eh. They can only be protected so much. With insurance, I just need to pay a $100 deductable and I can get a replacement. It's steep yeah, but could be worse.
Overall the gorilla glass is amazing and my screen was also spotless after about 6 months of use without a protector.

The only glass on a tp2 screen is the digitizer. It still had a touch screen over it, witch is made of several layers of plastic (resistive).
When you broke your epic, did you break the touch screen (witch is glass on a capacitive screen) or the digitizer.
Your comparing apples to oranges.

9 months in and not one scratch. I work in a steel factory also.
For those with plastic screen protectors that have a ton of scratches on the protector. Most of those scratches are only there because the protectors are plastic. It probably wouldn't of hurt your phone to begin with.
Those with diamond earrings though. I would be carefull going naked.

And man this lcd looks so much better without it. I put the protector on the day I took the evo home. I guess I did not realize how much sharper it was with out it.
Here's a question, for those of you with no protection on the screen, how does your lcd look now, referring to scratches and what not.
I dedicate a pants pocket for my evo and only my evo, with the lcd facing in. I was thinking about not putting another protector on but I most likely will. My screen and buttons are in perfect shape now.
Also the only reason I took the protector off is because I was laying on the floor playing with my evo and one of our puppies with their very Sharp teeth ran over and attacked my evo while it was in my hand. The screen looked in bad shape but the protector took ALL the damage.

I've never used a screen protector. Had mine for 7 months and the screen is very nice, except for one tiny nick. Not sure how that happened.

Common sense much?
I had a screen protector, but took it off about 6 months ago because I saw someone else's phone without one and it didn't even look like the same phone. The screen looks so much crisper without a protector. I treat my phone the same as you (own pocket, screen in) and my phone looks great.
I have a screen protector on, it's a reallook. It covers the whole face and it lives up to it's name, you can't tell it's on at all
Launch evo from June. No screen protector. No scratches!

I ALWAYS use a screen protector and a rubber. Nicks and scratches bug the hell outta me and make the phone look like junk. I had mine since August and still looks mint.

My phone had been naked since I got it. It was completely blemish free until about 2 weeks ago when I got out of my car with my phone on my lap. It fell face down on pavement, the couple tiny scratches it suffered are invisible until you look for them.
The first day I got it, (launch day), I put it in the rubber case and put a screen protector on it. about two months ago I took both of them off, except when I snowboard and am listening to music, I'll put the case on. I never drop it or have it anywhere where it could get messed up so it's still pristine. It does feel and look like a different phone with protection on it, and not in a good way lol. I couldn't stand having a "slim" smartphone but using a case that made it bulky.
honestly no, the "common" "sense" i see in the average person is depressing. i take it you mean to insult me some how. try again, or move along, i really dont care.
troll much?
Never used one on this bad boy. But I also carry it in a specific pocket or my chest pocket on my jacket/coats. The TPU case I use has a slight lip on the face, which keeps it from touching the surface if it fell on it's face. Knock on wood, not a single scratch, knick or scrape anywhere on my phone.
KB
In talking to the Sprint people and other Evo owners I know the best reason to have a case is because the rear-facing camera glass is flush with the surface of the phone. Scratch that and there's evidence of it in every picture you take. I use an Otterbox Commuter because the screen protection is invisible and the case keeps my camera glass from getting scratched. The bulk it adds is acceptable as well.
Had my evo for a month and so far so good. I will probably add a screen protector at the very least since i run an extended battery. Not many cases out there that don't make the phone super oversized
Sent from my Evo while i should be working
Had my EVO since July. I've never used a case or screen protector and there is not a single ding or scratch anywhere on the phone.

I am invisible until you look at me too.
I would run those cheap ass ebay static ones. I have used the shield ones ( rubbery ones, using solution on apply it ) and those do make it less sharp. The clear hard static ones are beast. IMO and they are cheap enough to replace as they peel. IM rocking one under my Cyclops case haha double protection. I didnt take it off when I installed the cyclops so I left it on anyways. More protection is straight.
I had some "cut to shape" Fellowes screen protectors which I used for various devices and slapped one on my EVO when it was new. Well...they are grainy and not very smooth. Using this made it harder to scroll and made the screen look dull.
Didn't want to go with a case because I don't usually carry it in my pocket. I use one that clips to my belt. So now I am using one from StealthGuards (which are free!). They are clear and smooth enough to feel that glide from your finger. Easy to apply and since I paid for mine, got a set of 2 and free replacements for life.
The other nice thing is I was able to take the cut out for the camera and put it over the camera lens. It sits nicely under the case and can't even tell it is on there. So, no scratches on the lens.
Had my Evo since June with no screen protector on, has scratches everywhere.
I absolutely baby my phone, it looks brand new everywhere except for the screen!
Honestly the screen scratches easy, wish i put a protector on when i got it.
so its been awhile, we have gorilla glass, i'm picking up my replacement epic today. should I go naked this time? just wondering I know I read a while back that a number of people were going naked. did the screens get scratched? I've dropped my phone once or twice, but it does have a case around it.
just figuring why waste the beauty of the screen behind a cheap protector if I don't need to. but hate to scratch the screen on the phone.
I haven't used a screen protector at all. Screen is still flawless, but I also baby my phone. The only mark anywhere is on the plastic on the side when I dropped it in my garage. Ended up face down but not a single mark on the screen.
i Just put one on because it helps avoid fingerprints but the screen is really strong even naked
GHOST ARMOR !FTW!
Well I've droped my phone and nothing happend to the screen
But the only thing that is "kind of" annoying but not a problem at all because it common sense it will have it is fingerprints that's all the screen protecter going to do

Had a screen protector on mine but removed it after a couple months. Couldn't get over the better responsiveness! I put mine in my pocket and make sure it's the only thing in my pocket (no keys, coins, etc.).
Screen doesn't have a scratch on it.
I use Ghost Armor on my epic. Just feels nicer than those damn plastic sh*t you get from RadioShack and best buy
I have had mine gor only 4 months but I do have a really faint line in my screen near the top from droping on my floor screen down.

I go naked and have a plastic flash drive also in that pocket - which I try to keep on the back of the phone with the screen face down on my leg.
I have 2 identically shaped scratches about 2mm long, one deeper than the other. I can't see them unless the conditions are perfect...and can only feel one if I run over it with a fingernail. It shouldnt have scratched but something abrasive (like sand) must have gotten into my pocket or on my finger and I didn't know. It sucks, but I much prefer the feel of the real screen and will be upgrading in a year anyway.
So, FYI, it can get scratches regardless of how you baby it. Have to decide whether its worth the risk or not.
I use mine w/o any cover, but I do notice slight scratches on the screen. I can only see them with it off and held at the right angle, but I can see they are there.
IMO, it all depends onhow rough you are with your phone
Do you take it where it can get sand across the glass? Dropped into dirt? Rubbed around with a bunch of hard objects?
Tried an invisible shield but couldn't stand the tackiness. Took it off and just going naked - yeah fingerprints and oils from your face tend to make a mess of the screen, but that happens with most protectors too. Quick wipe on the jeans or shirt and it's all good

I was using screen protectors when I bought it. Then one night I dropped my phone when I was in the bathroom after dropping it two or three times before and that night however the screen broke. I have insurance and therefore was able to replace the screen for free. Then I bought cheap protectors at Wal-Mart..Bad Idea. Response was horrible and you had to cut them,etc..Just a very bad idea. I finally decided that if I'm paying thee outrageous price for the phone and have only had to use insurance once..Then I might as well go naked because if I need to replace the screen I'll just do so. Why pay an additional cost ? If finger prints are an issue which they're only noticeable imo if you're watching films or the phone is off then just carry a cloth. Wipe as needed.

I use a invisible shield myself, I like it. Besides a few little bits of black fuzz under the screen protector.. Its a ***** to apply it though, and you NEED to leave it off for 24 hours like it says or you'll probably be trying to get a new phone... like me....
cant help but circulate my video. that was probably causes by the damn invisible shield solution...

I dropped mine and it scratched, bought the Realook screen protectors from Amazon and you can't even tell it's there.
I use www.stealthguards.com , They haven't let me down yet, and are much better than my Zagg on my Evo. Plus they are cheap as hell, well, free! You just pay shipping.
I had the screen protector (phantom Skinz) case and holster (seidio) and have since removed them. I've been naked and without protection (lol) for about 6 months now....not a scratch. My right pocket is reserved for it and nothing else. Phone still looks like its brand new out of the box.
If you need a screen shield I would definitely recommend Phantom skinz. Awsome product and unlike a lot of the others that claim to be "barely visible", this one actually is.
Nothing on mine.
I got those stealth somethingerother protectors kits when they were giving them away in pairs, but after putting one on the back cover to see how it felt, I decided against using it.
I've actually run a serrated knife across my screen (violently) and had no scratches at all, however on the other hand one tiny (.5mmx4mm) line appeared way up top by the indicator within a month or so of ownership. No idea how that happened.
Oh well.
I ran Zagg Invisibleshield for the first month, but had to ditch it because the orange peel was so bad and so was the tacky feeling. I've been bare ever since. Just got the wife an Evo Shift and since I was already ordering a set of Realook protectors for her I went ahead and got a set for myself. Ideally, I will sell this phone when I am ready for the next (dual core) toy, and why waste $100 on an insurance replacement if I don't have to?
i might have an extra protector at home, otherwise i'll just probably go naked, not gonna spend 17 bucks for another sprint one and figure at worst case, i'll only have the phone another year and a half. with the way sprint is going with wimax, probably only going to be another 6 months so I can live with it, plus I really don't like the feel of the protector.

I decided to remove the rubbery screen protector I've had on my phone since I got it. Love how easy it is to scroll without it. I do know the screen can get scratches but not sure how common it is. What kind of shape is your screen in if you are not using a screen protector?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I used to never put a screen protector on because I never drop my phone and take care of it.
I have a holster and never put it in my pocket and I never got a scratch on it. The screen does good on its own.
I put on a screen protector because it came free with a phantomskinz skin and kept it only because it like 100% eliminated the grease that comes from your finger and there's no need of having to wipe your phone every time you turn it on so I kept it.
I usually never use screen protectors and this phone does have a good scratch-resistant screen so just don't drop it or put it in your pocket with other stuff and you shouldn't have to worry about it scratching up ;p.
I have one VERY light scratch on the screen, you really wouldn't find it unless you were looking for it. Had my Vibrant since August. I tried applying the screen protector that came with my OtterBox, only to find that I still suck at applying them. So I've given up on them.
I gotta say i'm loving no screen protector. Hoping the Gorilla glass holds up til I get a new phone. Screen looks so much sharper with no protector as well.
I took it off too less than a week ago, all good so far and i second what you about how good the screen looks without the glass protector.

I've been very luck screen-wise. I've dropped the phone several times (including this morning), and the screen has no major scratches. This without any protector. I've heard mixed things about Gorilla Glass, but it definitely seems tough to me.

My screen is clean and quite 'vibrant' since day one--never a screen protector since launch day. If you buy a $400 phone, you best keep good track of it and respect the fact that it is a $400 phone.
Never understood the need for cases and protectors--just treat the damn thing like it is worth and you will be fine.
bought mine in late august. Still no scratches... well ok one very tiny about as long as this _ thats faint. No protector and i keep it in my pocket with my wallet. Usually try to avoid putting my keys in the same pocket.
I'm won over on gorilla glass.
Got my Vibrant at launch in July and have never had a screen protector on it. I usually leave it in a lightly padded case when I'm not using it though sometimes I'll throw it in my back pocket by itself if I'm in a hurry. I've also managed to drop it face down onto a parking lot. That one made me cringe.
The best part? No scratches or other damage whatsoever. I'm pretty pleased with the resilience of the screen.

Take it to Tmobile and get a replacement before warranty runs out
I dropped mine down 2 flights of steps (it skid down the steps), and all I got was a bunch of very tiny scratches on the screen that can't be seen unless you actually look for them.
In normal lighting, you have to angle the phone to see it.
Any other phone would have a crap-ton of scratches (the phone also took a 6 foot drop when I first dropped it, before it skid), so yeah, I love gorilla glass. <3
I may get a replacement, but except for the screen scratches, my phone has no issues. GPS works, everything. I don't want to exchange this perfect phone for a phone with a good screen, but can't overclock, and has GPS problems. >.>
I think I'll just stick with it unless T-Mobile will give me something else.
when I had the Iphone I had screen protector all the time but since I switch to vibrant I never had to put screen protector on it and still looks like new
but keep in mind not to abuse it
Is anyone here going Nakey with no screen protector? i've got one on right now and i can't STAND how the edges of the protector collect dust... i feel like taking it off..
Tell me your experiences with none on, is your screen getting scratches?
I hate screen protectors as well. That said, everytime I've tried to go nekkid, I've eventually ended up with scratches. No matter how careful you are, it seems, Gorilla Glass WILL scratch. Relatively easily IMO.

I will prob go with no screen protector, I had my HTC Hero for 3 years and had very minimal scratching without a screen protector. I only ever put my phone in my pocket on its own. I also keep my phones for the 3 year term that I get them on so by time the 3 years is up the re-sale value doesn't really matter to me any way so if it has some minor scratches it doesn't matter much since I will prob just pass the phone to someone for free anyway. Not to mention it looks and feels better without the protector and why not have the best experience with your phone instead of babying it.
I've never had one on my E4GT and it only has a few super faint scratches that you have to turn it off and put in sunlight to see. I don't think I'll put one on my GSIII either - they always end up getting bubbles or peeling back at some point.

The only phone I've ever had a tiny scratch in was with my Droid Bionic. But it was my work phone which means that I didn't baby it the way I normally do with my phones. None of my phones have ever had any scratch on them, and in fact the only phone that did have a screen protector on it, broke. Not that a screen protector is supposed to prevent it from breaking after someone stepped on it but yeah that's another story. I'm also planning on getting a white one and don't think it would look too nice after a while as the glue around the edges gets dark.
I figure as long as my pockets are free from anything else and they stay clean that I shouldn't have any issues with the screen. Just take care of your stuff people. Also while i'm at it, I think it's disgusting when people here scratch their screen then return it for another one. That's not anyone's fault but your own. There is already a high demand for these devices and the carrier or samsung should not be held responsible for that.
*gets off my soap box*
Screen protectors are a pain in the ass. Get rid of it. You can always tell that it's on there. Just take care of your phone. I keep my right pocket for the phone only. I never put anything in my right pocket except for the phone.

Stick your finger in the sand at the beach, then swipe your finger across your screen. Report back.
Sand will scratch the screen. Sand is actually at locations other than the beach and may come into contact with your phone/finger.
One year on the nexus and not a single scratch. My daughters epic is 2 years old without a single scratch and she just throws it in her book bag. Neither have ever had screen protectors.

Meh. Some sand/dirt is overseen depending on its size as not all dirt/sand is the same size. You can google gorilla glass and scratches and see it will scratch. I'm not saying everybody will scratch their screen, but I'm not taking any chances. Besides, I'm a pro at putting on screen protectors so I do it anyways..
If you are worried about scratches, I'd rather get a flip cover or slide in pouch than taint the display with a screen protector. Granted I live in the midwest and there isn't exactly a lot of beaches around, but I had my Epic since launch and never put anything on it and the screen still looks like new (the bezel not so much). It's even been dropped a few times landing facedown on my driveway/garage floor.
I have been naked on my phones the past several years and no visible or major scratches. If you are careful and don't put coins or keys in same pocket you should be good.
I'm going without a screen protector. One reason is that I suck at putting them on and get really annoyed with the bubbles and dust particles underneath. But the screen is just too good to cover up with a protector. I take good care of my phones so I don't have to worry too much about scratches. I had my GS2 for 8 months with no protector and no scratches at all. I put it in my pocket without anything else and it was fine. I make sure my hands are clean before using my phone.
I always start out with a protector, then end up taking it off after 6 months or so and that's with every Smartphone I've ever owned 2007-present.

corning glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof and not shatter proof.
the galaxy note has corning scratch resistant glass and yet many of us have managed to scratch it with the stylus that samsung included with the device.
so i would recommend using a screen protector if, like myself, you are easily annoyed by even the smallest scratches.
i already ordered 20 screen protectors from ebay, simply because i dont like having any air bubbles or dust underneath them. this way, if i screw up the first one, i have 19 more tries to get it right.
Quite simply....yes its necessary!

I hate screen protectors.
They never feel right to the touch and I can always see the edges which is annoying.
I've had several smartphones starting with the D1 when it was first released and other than the random very minor hairline scratch I've never had any issues with my screens.
Considering my N7 will never be pocketed (my phones live in my front pocket) there is even less of a chance of getting scratched.
This is just my personal preference.

I've had several smartphones starting with the D1 when it was first released and other than the random very minor hairline scratch I've never had any issues with my screens.
Considering my N7 will never be pocketed (my phones live in my front pocket) there is even less of a chance of getting scratched.
This is just my personal preference.

Can't agree with you more. I used to have one for my Galaxy Nexus, but I hated how I could see the sides and air bubbles. I just took it off and it's been scratch-free for literally months. I also don't use a case with it, just goes in my pocket and it's been fine. Sure, the occasional finer smudge, but it's comes off. I'm also not going to bother with a screen protector for my Nexus 7. I have, however, ordered a case for it.
Thanks everyone. Now I'm off to ebay to buy some cheap ones....
the screen is the device PROTECT IT WELL
Skinomi or zag or any of the other brand name protectors work well. The cheap plastic ones will make your touch less precise and scratch easy. spend the money 10-15 dollars is not much to protech a 250.00 device. I have hand the skinomi protector on my iconia a500 since day one . the screen is beautiful and exactly as it was new.
now what about some type of slip on cover that has a build in two way kick stand that will rotate for horizontal and vertical positon.. I WOULD Love that. I do not want this tablet in a CASE. just would like a stand built into the back of it . Even one that would Stick on the back with maybe two sided tape or velcro. if done correctly..

The thing I hate about buying expensive screen protectors is that $10+ easily adds up if you have to use several of them to finally get it right. I hate getting any dust or bubbles on the screen and that is usually difficult for me to get right the first time.
If you're looking for a very good screen protector I'd go with skinomi probably spelled that wrong or xo skin. Xo skin
looks the most invisible when its done drying but will lift up easily if you put it too close to the brezzle. Skinomi is also very good there just less forgiving if you mess up putting them on make sure to use lots of spay when applying. Don't get zagg after about two months of me owning it it has a yellow tent to it and there more expensive then the both I recommended. Whatever you decided make sure to look up online for coupons the usually have some you can use and that my two cents hope it helps out.

I usually hate using them as well. The feel is just never quite right and this screen glides wet. The only ones I ever considered are the ones that give you screen privacy as well.

I am on my 3rd http://www.skinomi.com/ screen protector since my iconia. they give you a 100% life time no questions asked warranty. I have kinda long sharp fingernails and i tend to touch it down there the middle far reaches of thumbs keyboard.
you fax them copy of your recept with reason you want it replaced and credit card number. they charge you a small shipping fee. i think 3.00 and in a few days you get a new one in the mail.. send the old one back in a STAMP envelope 44 cents .
They cost more but cheap and easy to get replaced . They come with special spray to put them on with and can be removed cleaned and reattached. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BUBBLES NO CORNERS Coming up .And i use my tablet i would 3 hours a day. everyday if not more on days off work.
You Truly get what you pay for . I have heard same type of happy customers with Zag and a few of the others so i do NOT Want to make this all about the one i have . p THEY SHIP YOU THE NEW ONE FIRST. you ship old one back after you change it out. i paid i think 18.00 for the original one.

Scratch Test: Does Your Phone Really Need A Screen Protector?
Had mine for under a week, already a fine scratch 4 cm long.
Screen protector means you can be rough with it
I learn from the mistakes of others. I have two friends who didn't use a screen protector on a Galaxy Note and a Galaxy S 2. Both got minor fine scratches that can only be seen if looked for. They're desk jockeys.
I work "in the field" often off-roading to get to my sites and my hands commonly get dirty from fine dust and sandy particles. There's no way I'd use my phone and Nexus 7 without a screen protector. If a desk jockey can get minor scratches imagine what a finger with fine dirt swiping across a screen will do.
So my lesson I learned: spend the money on a good screen protector if you're OCD about a perfect screen. Over the years I've learned how to apply wet screen protectors on so that they're not even noticable. (Zagg, Bodyguardz, and Skinomi). The trick is to apply a lot of solution to the sticky part.
I ordered a KaysCase Screen Protector. They are made for the device and fit perfectly. They are almost invisible and feel just like the glass itself. I got it on amazon along with my Aduro membrance case for my Gnex.
No screen protectors foe me, ever. I'd rather risk and/or deal with scratches than have a screen with a protector on it.

I don't have a screen protector on my Nexus and I've been fine. I'm careful enough, and if it happens to pick up a scratch or two as time goes on, that's alright. I'd rather not deal with the protectors, I like the screen the way it is.
I'm not 100% if screen protectors actually stop smart case covers from putting the nexus to sleep/awake, because it ever since I put a screen protector on, the sleep/awake function doesn't work effectively.
