Anyone know of a simple Android app that reducing the icon spacing on the desktop? I don't need any fancy desktop enhancements I would just like to control the grid size.
Thanks!
i don't think there is any way to control that with the stock launcher. If you have root, you may be able to change LCD density. Otherwise, try ADW or launcher pro.

Is there either a way to center a widget that is 4 spaces wide, or set the screen to be only that wide?
I don't wanna screw up the resolution or change the density, but I really want to center this thing.
Thanks guys.

You can use a different home screen such as launcher pro, or adw launcher that will allow you to change the number of columns or resize your widget to 5x4.
Otherwise there is no way with samsung home.

Try out Zeam Launcher it was developed by XDA.
LauncherPro works fine for me.
i use launcher pro with 4 width wide, but using 4x1 or 4x2 widget clock/weather still makes it not centered >.<
anybody knows about clock/weather widget that looks like sense and free that will fit nicely on launcher pro?
I can personally recommend lcd density changer (reqiures root) combined with launcher pro.
I've set the density setting to 180, and configured my launcher pro homescreen to have 6 colums and 10 rows. I looks great and it feels fantastic. Also it takes much better advantage of the 7" screen
edit: I see now that you don't want to "screw up the resolution". But with launcher pro, you can even adjust the size of most widgets. If you press and hold a widget like you are about to move it around, but lift your finger of the screen when the widget "pops out". You can drag the lower right corner that appears, and thereby strech or shrink as you please. Be aware that some widgets look wierd if you push the limit
Set home screen column width to 6, it will be centered then - does on my device no problem?
I recently changed my dpi settings to 160. Is there a way of changing the grid position for each screen to provide more real estate to place widgets, icons. Please note I would prefer to use the stock launcher and not a third party one like nova or apex.
I'm looking for a launcher which has a good implementation on retaining the icons and stuff when changing orientation. I've only tried the stock, LauncherPro, and Apex... None of them does what I really want when changing between landscape and portrait mode:
Shows the wallpaper in its entirety across multiple screens, possibly scrolling screens vertically in portrait.
Makes no change to layout of the icons when changing orientation, only re-orient them.
Can someone suggest a launcher that handles this well? Thanks.

Nova Launcher with Ultimate rotation control.

ssLauncher does that well. You can have a totally different set of icons and wallpapesr on each screen, each orientation. Save your theme. Change every icon picture, size, font... place anywhere (no grid), overlap... you name it, it does it.
Or Apex. No rotation issues at all. I set my homescreen grid to 8x7 for both portrait and landscape. Very nice.

Is there a launcher that allows widgets to not have margins? I want my widgets to be close together. I cant find a way to do it.
You have to use something like nova and choose like a 10x10 grid..that's the only way I think would work.

Im using nova and any grid size just doesn't work right. Say you have a 4x2 widget. Then you set Nova to 10x10. Now set the 4x2 widget. To make it look right the size changes to 10x3. Just doesnt work. Basically I want to put 3 widgets on my screen. one thats a 5x2, 5x3 and 5x3. So I would need a grid size of 8x5. But If I set it to that the widgets dont fit at all. Its because the widgets have to be re-sized so big to look right.
BUMP Until I get a answer
The only suggestion I could find for your question isn't free. Next Launcher allows you to freehand resize all widgets (meaning does not "snap to grid" resize) , even overlap. This is the lite version so you can try before you buy...

Lefty is exactly right. I've been using next launcher 3D and that's actually one of my favorite features that NO other launchers can accomplish (that I know of).
Some widgets just have funky dimensions, so it's nice to able to resize and place them literally anywhere on the screen. They can partially overlap as much or as little as you'd like.
This can also be done with apps...it looks messy, but you can turn off the grid completely and place the app icons wherever you want. You can even rotate the icons! And I won't even get into all the 3d features...I could go on forever. This is by far my favorite launcher and I've used quite a few.

The issue im having is this. No matter what launcher I use. Next 3D included. If I make the GRID Size 10 x 5 I should be able to have many widgets on my screen. So a 4x2 weather and a 4x3 Pulse and then a 3x4 Hangouts Widget and then a 2x2 photo. So I should just need a 4 x 9 grid right. Wrong because the grid is so big the a widget at 4x2 ends up being a 4x4 to view it all. I need a launcher that allows the widgets to show correctly at the default widget size. So I want a 10 x 5 grid size to actually hold more then 3 widgets. Nova Launcher is the same way. Just with Nova you can adjust the margins anymore then the 3 sizes included. With next you can make your own. But still I cant fit the 5 widgets on my screen that I want. Weather, Gmail, Hangout, Photo, Pulse. I want all those in there default widget sizes. I dont understand why making the grid size bigger makes the widgets bigger. In windows or Mac OSX when I make the rez bigger it doesnt make anything else bigger.

Hello,
I've been using Nova Launcher for well over a year, but one thing missing for me is being able to control the fonts within the launcher more. There is no option to change the font size, which I find makes the fonts smaller than the system fonts and giving a not very fluid layout throughout the rom.
Can anyone recommend a similar launcher which has the option to change the font size and type?
It's a little frustrating when installing a launcher it also changes the font (often reducing the size) on the homescreen, while the system font in settings, dialer and contacts remain the same.
Anyone know where I'm coming from on this?
Thanks.
